Five to 10 inches of snow were expected in the city and the mid-Hudson region, and up 16 inches were forecast to fall on Long Island.

In other places, particularly the Boston area, meteorologists were predicting high winds, at times approaching hurricane force, and up to 2 feet of snow.

The National Weather Service said that heavy snowfall would be concentrated over the southern coast of New Jersey from 1 a.m. to 3 a.m. and over parts of New England later in the morning. It predicted that areas of Massachusetts and Rhode Island could see “whiteout conditions” and as much as 2 to 4 inches of snow per hour.

“Plenty more snow is on the way,” the service’s Boston office said on Twitter, in a post that showed a picture of its snowy parking lot.

As of Friday afternoon, blizzard warnings had been posted for central and eastern Long Island, southeastern Connecticut and all of Rhode Island, as well as parts of Delaware, Maine and Massachusetts. Gov. Glenn Youngkin of Virginia had also declared a state of emergency, and airports across the region were busy canceling flights.

As per local media reports, each household is allotted four free Covid tests from the Biden administration. This means that 240 million tests have been ordered through COVIDTests.gov.

The test website was officially launched on January 19.

Florida is also expected to see some of its coldest temperatures in years.

The storm which has began to hit the country's east coast is expected to intensify. As per the NWS and Accuweather, winds are expected to strengthen and can also hurricane-level speeds.

A 44-year-old Chicago man, who was wrongly jailed for murder, was released after 20 years after his twin brother confessed to the crime.

Kevin Dugar was finally released from Cook County Jail, in Chicago on Wednesday.

His brother Karl Smith confessed to the crime in a letter to Dugar in 2013, saying that his brother was not responsible for the 2003 gang-related crime.

Smith is already serving a 99-year sentence for a violent home invasion in which a child was shot in the head.

After being convicted for the home invasion, he claimed that he found God in prison and had to make things right.

In 2018, a judge refused to accept Smith's confession saying that it was not credible. The judge also denied Dugar a new trial, reported ABC news.

Smith even signed a sworn statement and contacted Dugar's lawyers, as per his brother's request. But Dugar was still denied a retrial or release.&nbsp;

But the Northwest Center of Wrongful Convictions appealed Dugar's case. After another judge reviewed it, an order was issued on Tuesday morning for Dugar’s release.

Up until eighth grade, the twins dressed alike and shared socks, shoes and even sandwiches, their mother said in 2016, and were often viewed as “one person”, the Daily Mail reported.

Smith even had trouble identifying himself in photos presented at the testimony in 2016.&nbsp;

According to reports, Dugar will be staying at a residential transitional facility for 90 days, as per the conditions of his release.
