
US is a geographically larger country with a population of 328 million with the purchasing power of almost 60 thousand dollars. On the other hand, Iran, with a population of 83 million possesses the purchasing power of 20 thousand dollars.

US spends more on defence than any other country in the world and stands 1st in the rank of military power with the budget of 600 billion dollars, whereas Iran stands at 13 with the budget of 14 billion dollars.

US has one million active personnel as compared to Iran which has over 500 thousand active military, with more than 800 thousand reserved personnel while Iran has 350 thousand reserve personnel.

US has an all-volunteer military with over 73 billion volunteers available, whereas Iran has over 23 billion military personnel available for the country.

The US defence roster consists of its State army, Army National Guard in the Navy, Marine Corps, Coast Guard, State Air Force and Air National Guard. On the other hand, Iran has its army, airforce, navy and most importantly the Revolutionary Guards Corps which could mobilise thousands of personnel. The revolutionary guards have three broad classifications in term of operations - The Quds force, Basij resistance force and Hazrat-e Baqiatollah.
