<p>Balki did his education in India and he was also the deputy chief of mission at the Afghan embassy in New Delhi.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;</p>

<p>"I was in India for 12 years," he reminisced as his tone softened. "I have done my study in India. I did my diplomatic career in India."&nbsp;</p>

<p>In the subcontinent, he found a sense of belonging, drawing parallels between Delhi and Kabul. The commonalities mostly were able to serve as a balm for his homesickness.</p>

We are working very closely with the American Navy to make sure the Arabian Sea remains free for navigation and that the Indian Ocean remains free, and we will continue to strengthen that relationship,” Khanna told ANI in an interview.</p>

“I believe that both America and India are important democracies that they have to move towards becoming even better democracies. And that means recognizing pluralism, recognizing minority rights, making sure that every person is treated with equality,” Khanna said.<br />

<p>According to the latest study published by the American Chemical Society (ACS), a team of scientists in Beijing Anzhen Hospital, China found microplastics in the human heart for the first time.&nbsp;</p>

<h2><strong>What are microplastics?</strong></h2>

<p>Microplastics have&nbsp;been defined as tiny chunks of less than five millimetres long pieces of plastic and microfibres from clothes that get caught in the Earth’s atmosphere.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Studies have also found that they can enter the human body through mouth, nose&nbsp;and other body cavities. However, scientists have yet to find out the potential exposure to, and effects from, microplastics, on the human body.&nbsp;</p>

<h2><strong>How was the study conducted?</strong></h2>

<p>The pilot experiment conducted by Doctors Kun Hua, Xiubin Yang and their team sought to investigate whether these particles can enter people’s cardiovascular systems through indirect and direct exposures.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Therefore, researchers collected heart tissue samples from 15 people during cardiac surgeries, as well as pre-and post-operation blood specimens from half of the participants, said the statement about the study. The samples were then analysed with laser direct infrared imaging.&nbsp;</p>

<h2><strong>What did they find?</strong></h2>

<p>Researchers, using the previously mentioned method, found 20 to 500 micrometre-wide particles made from eight types of plastic, as per the study. They also found “tens to thousands of individual microplastic pieces in most of the tissue samples collected”, but the amounts and materials varied between participants.</p>

<p>Among the eight types of plastics found was Polyethylene terephthalate, which is used in clothing and food containers as well as polyvinyl chloride (PVC), which is widespread in window frames, drainage pipes, paint and more.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The study also noted that while all the blood samples collected contained plastic particles, the average size after the surgery decreased but the particles came from more diverse types of plastics.&nbsp;</p>

While the study was conducted with a small number of participants, researchers said that they have provided preliminary evidence of how “various microplastics can accumulate and persist in the heart and its innermost tissues.”&nbsp;</p>

<p>They added that the “findings show how invasive medical procedures are an overlooked route of microplastics exposure, providing direct access to the bloodstream and internal tissues.”&nbsp;</p>

<p>“The detection of in vivo MPs (microplastics) is alarming, and more studies are necessary to investigate how the MPs enter the cardiac tissues and the potential effects of MPs on long-term prognosis after cardiac surgery,” said the research team, in a statement.<br />

What are microplastics? Microplastics have been defined as tiny chunks of less than five millimetres long pieces of plastic and microfibres from clothes that get caught in the Earth’s atmosphere. However, scientists have yet to find out the potential exposure to, and effects from, microplastics, on the human body. How was the study conducted? The pilot experiment conducted by Doctors Kun Hua, Xiubin Yang and their team sought to investigate whether these particles can enter people’s cardiovascular systems through indirect and direct exposures. Therefore, researchers collected heart tissue samples from 15 people during cardiac surgeries, as well as pre-and post-operation blood specimens from half of the participants, said the statement about the study. The samples were then analysed with laser direct infrared imaging. What did they find? Researchers, using the previously mentioned method, found 20 to 500 micrometre-wide particles made from eight types of plastic, as per the study. They also found “tens to thousands of individual microplastic pieces in most of the tissue samples collected”, but the amounts and materials varied between participants. Among the eight types of plastics found was Polyethylene terephthalate, which is used in clothing and food containers as well as polyvinyl chloride (PVC), which is widespread in window frames, drainage pipes, paint and more. The study also noted that while all the blood samples collected contained plastic particles, the average size after the surgery decreased but the particles came from more diverse types of plastics. While the study was conducted with a small number of participants, researchers said that they have provided preliminary evidence of how “various microplastics can accumulate and persist in the heart and its innermost tissues.” They added that the “findings show how invasive medical procedures are an overlooked route of microplastics exposure, providing direct access to the bloodstream and internal tissues.” “The detection of in vivo MPs (microplastics) is alarming, and more studies are necessary to investigate how the MPs enter the cardiac tissues and the potential effects of MPs on long-term prognosis after cardiac surgery,” said the research team, in a statement. <p>The Biden administration has taken a significant step in endorsing technology designed to extract carbon dioxide, a major contributor to global warming, from the atmosphere with initial tranche of funding of up to $1.2 billion. The administration has chosen the first recipients of an overall substantial $3.5 billion fund dedicated to advancing the development of these innovative projects, identified by scientists as essential tools in mitigating the most severe impacts of climate change.</p>

<p>One of these projects, which will receive funding from the initial tranche of&nbsp;$1.2 billion, is led by a subsidiary of Occidental Petroleum Corp. This carbon-removal hub is proposed for Kleberg County, Texas.</p>

<h2><strong>Giant vacuum for carbon removal</strong></h2>

<p>Energy Secretary Jennifer M. Granholm reportedly said that the technology at the heart of these projects can be likened to a giant vacuum capable of extracting decades' worth of carbon pollution directly from the sky.</p>

<p>Granholm said, “If we deploy this at scale, this technology can help us make serious headway toward our net-zero emission goals.”</p>

<p>Once operational, these projects are projected to eliminate over 2 million metric tonnes of carbon dioxide annually from the atmosphere, equivalent to the environmental impact of nearly half a million gas-powered cars being taken off the roads each year.</p>

<p>Weiss, who has been investigating Hunter Biden since 2019, filed misdemeanour criminal tax and gun charges in June, but a federal judge refused to accept a proposed plea deal.</p>

<p>Weiss said in a court filing on Friday that talks between the two sides have since broken down. "The Government now believes that the case will not resolve short of a trial," he wrote.</p>

<p>The filing came moments after U.S. Attorney General Merrick Garland elevated Weiss to special counsel status, giving him additional authority and independence to pursue the investigation.</p>

<p>Hunter Biden in July pleaded not guilty to charges of failing to pay taxes on more than $1.5 million in income in 2017 and 2018 despite owing more than $100,000. He did not enter a plea deal in a separate case where he is charged with unlawfully owning a firearm while using illegal drugs, which is a felony.</p>
