Last Tuesday, prosecutors charged Trump with conspiring to defraud the United States&nbsp;claiming that the former president aimed to obstruct Congress from certifying US President Joe Biden's win in the 2020 election.&nbsp;

US District Judge Tanya Chutkan, on August 8, instructed both sides to meet and agree on possible dates for a hearing on this matter.

In their court filing, Trump's attorneys stressed the necessity of shielding certain court documents from the public, especially materials related to the grand jury investigation leading to Trump's recent indictment. However, they argued against a blanket gag order on all government-produced documents, citing concerns about the First Amendment rights of free speech.

"However, the need to protect that information does not require a blanket gag order over all documents produced by the government," Trump's attorneys said adding, "In a trial about First Amendment rights, the government seeks to restrict First Amendment rights."&nbsp;

Prosecutors responded to the defence's opposition by pointing out that Trump's lawyers have discussed the case on major US television networks since the request for a protective order.

<h2>Residents evacuated</h2>

The police and bomb squad launched an operation to dispose of the unexploded shell and cleared all residents within a 500-metre radius of the bomb’s location in the city of Dusseldorf. As per local media reports, two rooms at local schools were made available for affected residents.

The roads within the evacuation zone were also temporarily closed during the disposal operation. Some residents were reportedly seen carrying their pets as they left their homes. However, it was not immediately clear if the disposal was completed and the restrictions lifted.&nbsp;

Notably, reports of bombs buried in Germany, from the two World Wars are not as unique. The ground in German cities remains riddled with unexploded ordnances which are typically discovered on construction sites.&nbsp;

In 2021, a World War II bomb exploded at a construction site near Munich station and injured four people as well as disrupted rail traffic. The year prior to that, 13,000 people in Frankfurt were forced to evacuate after a similar-sized British bomb was discovered and later dug up.&nbsp;

US Border Patrol agents stationed at Texas's Fort Brown Station made a startling discovery when they intercepted a man attempting to smuggle seven spider monkeys into the United States from Mexico, as reported by the BBC.

The incident sheds light on the alarming lengths to which wildlife smugglers will go, endangering both species and migrants.

Border Patrol agents from the Rio Grande Valley Sector apprehended a suspect believed to be engaged in the smuggling of spider monkeys across the US-Mexico border.

A video shared on Facebook by the sector captures the agents, visibly concerned, holding a backpack riddled with holes. Inside the backpack, seven infant spider monkeys were found, tightly huddled together.

Additionally, Bloom told Wall Street Journal that ensuring employees have a healthy work-life balance increases employee retention, boosts performance, and improves customer satisfaction.

Prithwiraj Choudhury, an associate professor at the Harvard Business School, said in his research published earlier this year that employees who worked from home 75 per cent of the time were the most productive. “When you allow flexibility, it expands your talent pool”, Business Insider quoted Choudhury as saying.

In recent months, COVID-19 cases have been on the rise in some parts of the world, including the United States and the United Kingdom, where new variants were recently detected. Data by the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) shows that hospital admissions due to Covid and positive test rates are on the rise, reported Time.

<h2>US: Rise in cases and new COVID-19 variants&nbsp;</h2>

The recent data from the CDC shows that the EG.5 variant of the coronavirus is responsible for more than 17 per cent of new cases over the past two weeks or so, which is said to be the highest prevalence of any strain currently spreading across the country.&nbsp;

It also surpassed the previously prevalent so-called “Arcturus” variant, which accounted for nearly 16 per cent of infections in the US. The World Health Organization (WHO) last month upgraded the EG.5 variant to its “variant under monitoring,” classification, a step below a “variant of concern”.&nbsp;

This comes after the EG.5’s global prevalence nearly doubled from mid-June to mid-July and it was detected in as many as 45 countries, reported WHO. However, last month, the United Nations health agency said that there is no evidence of “rising cases and deaths or a change in disease severity associated with EG.5.”

The EG.5 variant is a descendant of XBB.1.9.2 but with an additional mutation. As per reports citing experts, this recent uptick in cases during the American summer season could be an indicator of what is to come in winter.&nbsp;

While there have been multiple rises, drops and waves of Covid infections since 2020, the recent one is said to be the most notable one since the COVID-19 public health emergency (PHE) ended in the US, back in May.&nbsp;

“US&nbsp;COVID-19 rates are still near historic lows after seven months of steady declines,” CDC spokesperson Kathleen Conley told CBS News. However, the US has also experienced a rise in COVID-19 in the “past three summers, so it’s not surprising to see an uptick.”

However, experts note that there is insufficient evidence that this rise will lead to a bigger outbreak, reported Time magazine.

<h2>What’s the situation in the UK?</h2>

In the UK, the recent uptick in cases has reportedly&nbsp;been attributed to <a href="https://www.wionews.com/science/covid-variant-eris-on-rise-in-uk-as-experts-say-country-flying-blind-on-infection-622835">variant EG.5.1</a>, nicknamed Eris. The variant, which has descended from the rapidly spreading Omicron, was first flagged last month across Britain.&nbsp;

The variant Eris is found in one of the seven new coronavirus cases, said the UK Health Security Agency (UKHSA). As per the latest data, the cases of the Eris variant now account for 14.6 per cent of all cases, reported the British media.

Even after three years or so, advice around COVID-19 stays the same with some changes. Here’s what you should do if you have or think you have COVID-19.&nbsp;

Get tested

Make sure to get tested and confirm if you have COVID-19. The CDC recommends that if you have symptoms of the virus, “test immediately”. However, if you do not have symptoms but have been exposed to COVID-19, wait at least five full days before taking a test.

What to do if the test is positive?

Inform everyone you’ve recently been around since it is possible that you were infectious before you developed symptoms or got tested. As per the CDC guidelines, anyone with COVID-19 should isolate themselves from others for at least five days.&nbsp;

Possible treatment

COVID-19 can cause symptoms ranging from “mild to very severe,” as per the CDC, with old people at high risk of getting very sick. Therefore, it recommends medications to treat COVID-19 – prescribed by a healthcare provider &nbsp;– and started as soon as possible after diagnosis to be effective.&nbsp;

The CDC also recommends drinking plenty of fluids and using over-the-counter anti-fever medications, if necessary. But in case of severe symptoms, like difficulty breathing or chest pain, seek medical care immediately.

However, the US has also experienced a rise in COVID-19 in the “past three summers, so it’s not surprising to see an uptick.” However, experts note that there is insufficient evidence that this rise will lead to a bigger outbreak, reported Time magazine. Inform everyone you’ve recently been around since it is possible that you were infectious before you developed symptoms or got tested. The Russian defence ministry, in a statement, said that it scrambled a Su-30 fighter jet to “prevent a violation of the Russian state border” after a US Reaper MQ-9 military drone was detected over the Black Sea.

“As the Russian fighter approached, the foreign reconnaissance drone performed a U-turn away from the border,” said the Russian officials. The ministry also claimed that the drone belonged to the US Air Force.&nbsp;

It added, “The Russian aircraft returned safely to its airbase, there was no violation of the border.” This comes as reports about incidents involving Russian and Western aircraft have multiplied over the Black Sea and Baltic Sea in recent months.&nbsp;

<h2>Ukraine drone strike</h2>

Both Russia and Ukraine reported that a Ukrainian sea drone laden with explosives struck a Russian fuel tanker overnight, on Saturday, near the Crimean bridge, in the second such attack in 24 hours.&nbsp;

The bridge, in question, links Russia to Crimea, which Moscow seized from Ukraine in 2014. A Ukrainian intelligence source told Reuters that the drone with 450kg of explosives hit the SIG vessel as it transported fuel for the Russian military in Ukrainian territorial waters.

“The tanker was well loaded with fuel, so the ‘fireworks’ were seen from afar,” said the report by Reuters citing an intelligence source.&nbsp;

Kyiv is in the midst of its long-awaited counteroffensive against Moscow to recapture its territory and has been destroying Russia’s military infrastructure inside Russia or on Russian-controlled territory in Ukraine, as per reports.&nbsp;

Zelensky, on Saturday (August 5), said that a Russian missile hit a facility of the Ukrainian aeronautics group Motor Sich, one of the companies requisitioned by the government since the beginning of Moscow’s invasion back in February 2022.&nbsp;

“Today, there was another Russian missile attack against our country. Kinzhals, Calibers. They hit Motor Sich,” said Zelensky, during his evening address. The facility is located near Khmelnytskyi in western Ukraine around 300 kilometres southwest of Kyiv.&nbsp;

According to the Ukrainian president, the strike included Russia’s hypersonic Kinzhal weapons, adding that “some of the missiles were shot down.” The Khmelnytskyi region which is hundreds of kilometres from the front lines is also home to a major Ukrainian airbase and is regularly targeted by Russian strikes.&nbsp;

Notably, Motor Sich makes plane and helicopter engines and other components and was taken over by the government in Kyiv as a part of its “strategic” firms taken over by Ukraine’s defence ministry last November.

<h2>Lives 'in limbo'</h2>

Speaking at the ceremony, Secretary of the Army Christine Wormuth said. "We need the Senate to act not only on his nomination but also on the over 300 other general and flag officers across the armed services whose careers and lives are now in limbo because of this unprecedented hold."

To replace McConville, the Pentagon has nominated the current vice chief of staff of the Army, General Randy George. Till his nomination is confirmed, George will perform all the Army chief duties in an acting capacity.

The US Marine Corps commandant stepped down on July 10th, till date his post remains vacant. The problem is set to worsen as soon other top officers, including Chief of Naval Operations Admiral Mike Gilday and Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff General Mark Milley.
