According to the police, all three students were 15 years old and were charged in separate incidents since the school year began earlier this month.&nbsp;</p>

<h2><strong>What did the students do?</strong></h2>

<p>As per the New York Post, the teenagers made bomb threats in three separate instances at the Oldham County High School to their teachers since August 9.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The incidents that occurred on August 14, 15, and 17 were related to the TikTok challenge which encourages students to record a video of themselves telling a teacher there was a bomb or gun in their backpack as a “joke,” said the county police.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Two of the three 15-year-olds have been charged with terroristic threatening in the second degree while one of them is charged with terroristic threatening in the third degree, said the police.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Since the students are minors the officials did not release their names and any further identifying details.&nbsp;</p>

<p>In a similar incident, a fourth 15-year-old student at nearby South Oldham High School was also charged with harassing communications after supposedly being inspired by the challenge, reported the Post.&nbsp;</p>

<h2><strong>Officials warn parents about TikTok challenges</strong></h2>

<p>All four teens have since been suspended and must complete a mental health evaluation before returning to school, district officials have reportedly said in a message to the parents.&nbsp;</p>

<p>“As previously communicated in a letter to families regarding terroristic threatening, students who participate in this type of behavior face serious consequences In addition to school-level discipline, students are prosecuted to the greatest extent of the law for making a threat to a public school,” said the district officials, in a message, as quoted by local media reports.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Authorities have also warned parents and children about the numerous TikTok challenges in the past years including the ones encouraging and involving pranksters who kick in doors, and car thefts.&nbsp;<br />

<p>Australia's defence department said on Sunday (August 27) that a US military aircraft crashed on a remote island north of mainland Australia while it was taking part in war games. US officials have said that three US Marines were killed in the crash while 20 sustained injuries.</p>

<p>"There were a total of 23 personnel on board. Three have been confirmed deceased while five others were transported to Royal Darwin Hospital in a serious condition," a US Marines official said in a statement.</p>

<p>"At this critical early stage, our focus is on the incident response and ensuring the safety of those involved," the Defence Department said in a statement, adding that Australian soldiers were "not involved". &nbsp;</p>

<p>The crashed aircraft is an Osprey vertical takeoff aircraft.&nbsp;</p>

<p>An emergency services incident map for Northern Territory revealed that there was an "aircraft crash" on Melville Island. The island is about 60 kilometres (37 miles) north of mainland Australia.</p>

<p>The aircraft was participating in Predators Run exercises. It's a joint combat drill between the US and Australian military.</p>

<p>Ospreys aircraft is a&nbsp;tilt-rotor aircraft.&nbsp;It is a hybrid craft that has two engines on fixed wingtips. These allow the aircraft to land and take-off vertically. It travels much faster than a conventional helicopter.</p>

<p>The safety record of this type of aircraft has reportedly come into question following a series of fatal accidents.</p>

<p>In April 2000, 19 Marines were killed when an Osprey crashed during a training exercise in Arizona.&nbsp;</p>

<p>And three marines were killed in 2017 when an Osprey crashed after clipping the back of a transport ship while trying to land at sea off Australia's north coast.&nbsp;</p>

<p>In July this year, four Australians were killed after their Taipan helicopter crashed into sea during war games near Queensland.</p>

<p>Northern Australia has assumed greater importance in recent years as the US and Australia look to counter growing Chinese influence in the Asia-Pacific region.</p>

Three US Marines killed as aircraft crashes during combat exercise in Australia

<p>Thousands of Americans gathered in the United States capital to commemorate the 60th anniversary of the March on Washington, a pivotal event in the country’s civil rights movement where Martin Luther King Jr. delivered his iconic “I have a dream” speech.&nbsp;</p>

<h2><strong>About the march</strong></h2>

<p>On Saturday (August 26), thousands of people marched in the US capital as this year’s rally was held at the Lincoln Memorial which was once the backdrop to King’s impassioned call for equality.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Six decades ago on this day, 250,000 people led by King marched to the US capital in a push to end discrimination on the basis of race, colour, religion, sex or national origin. This time around, various speakers spoke about how King’s dream is now under threat and the fruits of his work at risk.</p>

<p>Speakers at the march include civil rights leaders such as the Reverend Al Sharpton, founder and president of the National Action Network; King’s son Martin Luther King III his granddaughter Yolanda Renee King and House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries, who is the first Black lawmaker to lead a party in Congress.&nbsp;</p>

<h2><strong>‘Rights under attack’</strong></h2>

<p>Addressing the crowd on Saturday, Margaret Huang, CEO of the Southern Poverty Law Center, an advocacy group said that the 1963 march – which many credit with the passage of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 – opened doors and spurred new tools to fight racial discrimination.</p>

<p>However, the recent laws throughout the country that “claw away at the right to vote” and target the LGBTQ+ community threaten to erase some of those gains.&nbsp;</p>

<p>“These campaigns against our ballots, our bodies, our school books, they are all connected. When our right to vote falls all other civil and human rights can fall too, but we’re here today to say ‘not on our watch,’” said Huang.&nbsp;</p>

<h2><strong>Distortion of history</strong></h2>

<p>Kimberle Crenshaw, executive director of the African American Policy Forum, said the anniversary this year comes amid a troubling time. “The very history that the march is commemorating is being not only challenged but distorted,” said Crenshaw. She was referring to bans across several mostly Republican US states on books and classroom instruction based on so-called critical race theory (CRT), which views a legacy of racism as shaping American history.&nbsp;</p>

<p>This is in addition to other moves like the removal of an African American Studies course from public schools in the US states of Florida and Arkansas which Crenshaw called it a “concerted effort to silence conversation about that history.”&nbsp;</p>

<p>Jonathan Greenblatt, national director of the Anti-Defamation League, which played a role in the campaign for the Civil Rights Act’s enactment, said that while the US has come a long way since 1963, in terms of the goals imagined by King’s “dream,” recent Supreme Court rulings have proved to be a major setback in that progress.&nbsp;</p>

By that time, he had already began shooting in Jacksonville."</p>

<p>Powell said Fed policymakers would proceed with care as they "decide whether to tighten further," but also made clear that the central bank has not yet concluded that its benchmark interest rate is high enough to be sure that inflation returns to the 2% target.</p>

<p>"It is the Fed’s job to bring inflation down to our 2% goal, and we will do so," Powell said in a keynote address to the Jackson Hole Economic Policy Symposium. "We have tightened policy significantly over the past year. Although inflation has moved down from its peak - a welcome development - it remains too high. We are prepared to raise rates further if appropriate, and intend to hold policy at a restrictive level until we are confident that inflation is moving sustainably down toward our objective."</p>

<p>The economy continues to grow above trend, Powell said, and if that continues "it could put further progress on inflation at risk and could warrant further tightening of monetary policy."</p>

<p>His remarks showed the Fed wrestling with conflicting signals from an economy where inflation has by some readings slowed a lot without much cost to the economy - a good outcome, but one that has raised the possibility that Fed policy is not restrictive enough to complete the job.</p>

<p>Unlike in last year's speech at the closely watched annual conference hosted by the Federal Reserve Bank of Kansas City - a terse warning of more tightening to come - Powell did not warn households of coming "pain" from further policy tightening. But neither did he signal that rate cuts were anywhere close, or nod as some policymakers have done to the need to adjust rates downward once inflation cools more sustainably.</p>

<h2><strong>Finger on the trigger</strong></h2>

<p>Markets reacted by continuing to price in only a modest chance of a rate hike next month - less than 20%, based on rate futures pricing - but an increasing likelihood of a rate hike at one of the Fed's following two meetings - on Oct. 31-Nov. 1 and Dec. 12-13 - with prices indicating a better-than-50% chance of the policy rate ending the year in a 5.5%-5.75% range.</p>

<p>"My main takeaway is that when it comes to another rate hike, the chair still very much has his finger on the trigger, even if it's a bit less itchy than it was last year," said Inflation Insights' Omair Sharif.</p>

<p>It was difficult, Powell said, to know with precision the degree to which the Fed's current 5.25% to 5.5% benchmark interest rate had cleared the "neutral" rate of interest needed to slow the economy, and therefore hard to assess just where policy stands.</p>

<p>Powell repeated what has become a standard Fed diagnosis of inflation progress - with a pandemic-era jump in goods inflation easing and a decline in housing inflation "in the pipeline," but concern that continued consumer spending on a broad array of services and a tight labor market may make a return to 2% difficult.</p>

<p>Recent declines in measures of underlying inflation, stripped of food and energy prices, "were welcome, but two months of good data are only the beginning of what it will take to build confidence that inflation is moving down sustainably," Powell said.</p>

<p>"Given the size" of the broader services sector, excluding housing, "some further progress will be essential," the Fed chief said, and it will likely require an economic slowdown to deliver it.</p>

<p>"Restrictive monetary policy will likely play an increasingly important role. Getting inflation sustainably back down to 2% is expected to require a period of below-trend economic growth as well as some softening in labor market conditions," Powell said.</p>

<p>While Powell's tone was not as stern as last year, when in a very abrupt set of remarks he disabused market notions that the Fed was then nearing the end of its rate-hike cycle and would cut rates through this year. Still, it was clear he did not want to set aside any options.</p>

<p>“Powell continues to walk a tightrope," said Michael Arone, chief investment strategist at State Street Global Advisors. "This year I think he is demonstrating that he is pleased with how far monetary policy has come and how inflation has been reduced. But he is still holding on tightly to this notion that they are watching it carefully and they still have work to do.”</p>

<p>The Fed chair also indicated he is not open to entertaining a discussion about changing the Fed's 2% target for inflation as some economists have suggested may be warranted in an environment with growth that is persistently above trend.</p>

<p>"Two percent is and will remain our inflation target," Powell said. "We are committed to achieving and sustaining a stance of monetary policy that is sufficiently restrictive to bring inflation down to that level over time."</p>

<p>Powell ended his speech on Friday with nearly the same line he finished with last year at Jackson Hole: "We will keep at it until the job is done."</p>

"My main takeaway is that when it comes to another rate hike, the chair still very much has his finger on the trigger, even if it's a bit less itchy than it was last year," said Inflation Insights' Omair Sharif. Powell repeated what has become a standard Fed diagnosis of inflation progress - with a pandemic-era jump in goods inflation easing and a decline in housing inflation "in the pipeline," but concern that continued consumer spending on a broad array of services and a tight labor market may make a return to 2% difficult. Recent declines in measures of underlying inflation, stripped of food and energy prices, "were welcome, but two months of good data are only the beginning of what it will take to build confidence that inflation is moving down sustainably," Powell said. "Given the size" of the broader services sector, excluding housing, "some further progress will be essential," the Fed chief said, and it will likely require an economic slowdown to deliver it. "Restrictive monetary policy will likely play an increasingly important role. Getting inflation sustainably back down to 2% is expected to require a period of below-trend economic growth as well as some softening in labor market conditions," Powell said. While Powell's tone was not as stern as last year, when in a very abrupt set of remarks he disabused market notions that the Fed was then nearing the end of its rate-hike cycle and would cut rates through this year. Still, it was clear he did not want to set aside any options. “Powell continues to walk a tightrope," said Michael Arone, chief investment strategist at State Street Global Advisors. "This year I think he is demonstrating that he is pleased with how far monetary policy has come and how inflation has been reduced. But he is still holding on tightly to this notion that they are watching it carefully and they still have work to do.” The Fed chair also indicated he is not open to entertaining a discussion about changing the Fed's 2% target for inflation as some economists have suggested may be warranted in an environment with growth that is persistently above trend. "Two percent is and will remain our inflation target," Powell said. "We are committed to achieving and sustaining a stance of monetary policy that is sufficiently restrictive to bring inflation down to that level over time." Powell ended his speech on Friday with nearly the same line he finished with last year at Jackson Hole: "We will keep at it until the job is done." <p>According to local media reports citing officials, as many as seven people have been injured in Boston’s Dorchester during the celebrations. The shooting incident took place at Blue Hill Avenue and Talbot Avenue, said Officer Michael Torigian.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The police said that they were responding to reports of shots which came around 7:44 am (local time). Officers at the scene and the spokesperson said “multiple victims” have been transported to local hospitals with non-life-threatening injuries.&nbsp;</p>

<p>“Firearms have been recovered and arrests made,” said the police, in a brief statement.&nbsp;</p>

<p>“Today’s mass shooting highlights the gun violence crisis we are facing in the city. This is a public health and public safety emergency,” said Boston City Councilor Ed Flynn, in a statement after the shooting incident.&nbsp;</p>

<p>He added, “Boston Police are confiscating and recovering guns at an alarming rate throughout the neighborhood. Now is the time to come together and develop a gun violence strategy in Boston.”&nbsp;</p>
