A federal judge has mandated Elon Musk to testify once again in the US Securities and Exchange Commission's investigation into his $44 billion acquisition of Twitter, setting a deadline for both parties to finalise the details of the interview. <o:p></o:p>

If you have noticed fewer chips in a packet you bought or the size of the packet itself is smaller than it used to be, while you are paying the same amount if not more, in some cases, for that bag of chips, that’s shrinkflation. United States President Joe Biden, on Sunday (Feb 11) called on snack companies to stop shrinkflation and denounced the practice as a “rip-off.”&nbsp;

<h2>‘Give me a break’</h2>

“Some companies are trying to pull a fast one by shrinking the products little by little and hoping you won’t notice,” said the US president in a video posted on X ahead of the annual American football championship Super Bowl LVIII.&nbsp;

He added, “Give me a break. The American public is tired of being played for suckers. I’m calling on companies to put a stop to this. Let's make sure businesses do the right thing now.”&nbsp;

However, Biden did not offer any tangible solutions or policies to address the practice.&nbsp;

Last year, US Senator Bob Casey, who chairs the Senate Health, Education, Labor, and Pensions (HELP) Subcommittee on Children and Families released a report which found that companies had reduced the sizes of almost all their products from toilet paper to Oreos.&nbsp;

According to Casey’s report, household paper products were 34.9 per cent more expensive per unit than they were in January 2019 and more than 10 per cent of this increase has been attributed to shrinking the sizes of rolls and packages.

The US Senator’s office has also sent letters to the trade associations which represent household consumer products and food and beverage companies demanding that they explain these pricing strategies and package size practices, as well as the impact it has on consumers.&nbsp;

Shrinkflation is when companies reduce a product’s size or quantity but keep prices the same or in some cases increase the price of that commodity. The practice is particularly common in the food and beverage industries and can help them stealthily boost profit margins.

A narrowly divided US&nbsp;Senate passed a $95.34 billion aid package for Ukraine, Israel and Taiwan on Sunday, showing undiminished bipartisanship despite opposition from Republican hardliners and Donald Trump.

The Democratic-led Senate voted 67-27 in a rare Sunday session to clear the latest procedural hurdle and moved the foreign aid measure toward an ultimate vote on passage in the coming days.

The money is viewed as crucial by Kyiv, as it grinds toward the second anniversary of Russia's invasion of Ukraine. But Senate passage would send the bill on to the Republican-controlled House of Representatives, where it faces an uncertain future.

Eighteen Republicans backed the legislation after Trump, the dominant Republican White House candidate, criticized the bill on social media by saying that the foreign aid should take the form of a loan. Trump also sparked exasperation at home and abroad by saying he would encourage aggression against NATO allies who do not pay their dues to the alliance.

Ahead of Sunday's vote, Senate Republican leader Mitch McConnell chided those who he said would disregard US&nbsp;global interests, bemoan American leadership and lament international commitments.

"This is idle work for idle minds, and it has no place in the United States Senate," McConnell said. "American leadership matters. And it is in question."

Democratic President Joe Biden, who has been seeking the aid for months, on Friday said Congress would be guilty of "neglect" if it failed to pass the measure.

The next Senate action is expected on Monday evening, when lawmakers are due to hold two procedural votes: one to adopt the foreign aid package as an amendment to an underlying House bill; and a second to limit debate ahead of a final vote on passage, which could come on Wednesday, according to aides.

The legislation includes $61 billion for Ukraine, $14 billion for Israel in its war against Hamas and $4.83 billion to support partners in the Indo-Pacific, including Taiwan, and deter aggression by China.

It also would provide $9.15 billion in humanitarian assistance to civilians in Gaza and the West Bank, Ukraine and other conflict zones around the globe.

House Speaker Mike Johnson, who has a slim 219-212 Republican majority, has indicated that he could try to split the aid provisions into separate measures once the bill arrives from the Senate.

But a standalone aid bill for Israel fell victim in the House last week to opposition from Democrats who favour the broader Senate legislation and from hardline Republicans who wanted compensating spending cuts, in a pair of humiliating defeats for Johnson.

During a visit to Kyiv on Friday, a bipartisan delegation of House lawmakers vowed to do their part to pass the measure.

Senate Republicans believe bipartisan passage would help stir support among Republicans in the House.

"It will shape the environment such that ... more Republicans will feel comfortable advancing the bill," Senator Todd Young, an Indiana Republican, told reporters.

Republican support for the measure could grow and the pace of progress could quicken if Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer and his Republican counterpart, Mitch McConnell, can reach an agreement allowing votes on Republican amendments.

Republicans want amendments that could address the record flow of migrants across the U.S.-Mexico border and forgo humanitarian assistance provisions by restricting foreign aid to weapons and materiel.

Russian envoy to India, Denis Alipov on Saturday (Feb 10) stated that the United States was making attempts to threaten Moscow's relationship with New Delhi via sanctions even though his country continues to be India's "reliable and time-tested friend".

"In India, Russia enjoys a solid reputation as a reliable, sincere, well-intentioned, time-tested friend. Such an image was initially shaped due to the major contribution of the USSR to Indian socio-economic development, and it largely persists to this day," Alipov said during an interview with news agency RT.

"US officials who come here do not hesitate to directly state that they are pursuing the goal of tearing New Delhi away from Moscow. They are even making threats with secondary sanctions. Some Indian partners are forced to exercise caution, sometimes, frankly speaking, excessively, but there are also a significant number of those for whom such an approach is unacceptable." he added.

<h2>'Have never conditioned cooperation on politics, not interfered in domestic affairs'</h2>

The Russian envoy, stressing upon the strong bilateral relationship, stated that the New Delhi-Moscow ties, unlike the Western allies, have never "conditioned cooperation on politics" nor did the two sides ever meddle in each other's domestic affairs.

"Our ties continue to steadily expand in a wide range of areas according to our converging national interests. But unlike our Western partners, we have never conditioned cooperation on politics, have not interfered in domestic affairs, and have always maintained mutually respectful and trusted relationships. Therefore, even now we mainly see a growing desire to keep working together and finding ways to overcome well-known impediments caused by destructive unilateral approaches," said&nbsp;Alipov.

"It should be noted that over the recent years, the number of such contacts has increased manifold, and they are becoming more and more meaningful, including distributing information detailing the economic and investment potential and promising areas for interaction. It is indicative that the current bilateral trade turnover, which at the end of 2023 may exceed $60 billion, is several times higher than the pre-sanctions figures," he added.

Alipov also urged for immediate reforms of the United Nations and its agencies whilst making a strong case for India's inclusion as a permanent member of the UN Security Council.

"We are of the view that India as a permanent member of the Security Council could make a significant contribution to promoting balance as well as an agenda focused on the interests of the world majority, primarily the countries of the Global South," the Russian envoy said.

Russia and India have had a strong strategic alliance based on similar interests and historical ties for decades now.

As per the Russian news agency, large-scale defense cooperation lies at the heart of the alliance with both countries participating in cooperative military exercises, co-development of cutting-edge military platforms, and technology transfers.&nbsp;

Apart from attacking the judge, Redden has also been accused of&nbsp;“punching and/or kicking and/or pushing” a Las Vegas police officer.&nbsp;

<h2>What did Redden do?</h2>

During a hearing on January 3 in Las Vegas, Nevada,&nbsp;Redden flung himself over the barriers in the court room and tackled the judge onto the ground. While throwing himself onto the judge, he shouted: "Nah...f*** that b*tch."

In the video that went viral, Redden could be seen repeatedly punching the judge as the marshal and other security officials attempted to subdue him. Holthus could also be heard begging Redden to get off.&nbsp;

For the next minute-and-a-half, Redden and the security official continued to jostle as the criminal assaulted the judge. It took more than a couple of security guards to submit Redden who was then put in handcuffs and escorted off the scene.&nbsp;

Ironically, prior to the sentencing, Redden in his speech asked for leniency from Judge Holthus by describing himself as a person who "never stops doing the right thing".&nbsp;

“I'm not a rebellious person. But if it's appropriate for you then you have to do what you have to do," he told the judge.&nbsp;

However, after Judge Holthus made it clear that she was sending him behind bars, Redden lost it and in a fit of rage did what was caught on camera. Notably, Redden was not in custody when he arrived at the court, wearing a white shirt and dark pants, standing next to his defence attorney Caesar Almase.&nbsp;

Notably, Redden&nbsp;has a comprehensive rap sheet, both in Nevada and Texas. He has faced charges ranging from battery, robbery, assault, injury to property and coercion. He previously served prison time in Nevada on a domestic battery conviction.&nbsp;

Apart from attacking the judge, Redden has also been accused of “punching and/or kicking and/or pushing” a Las Vegas police officer. Watch | Gravitas: A Culture of violence in the US × What did Redden do? During a hearing on January 3 in Las Vegas, Nevada, Redden flung himself over the barriers in the court room and tackled the judge onto the ground. While throwing himself onto the judge, he shouted: "Nah...f*** that b*tch." In the video that went viral, Redden could be seen repeatedly punching the judge as the marshal and other security officials attempted to subdue him. Holthus could also be heard begging Redden to get off. For the next minute-and-a-half, Redden and the security official continued to jostle as the criminal assaulted the judge. It took more than a couple of security guards to submit Redden who was then put in handcuffs and escorted off the scene. But if it's appropriate for you then you have to do what you have to do," he told the judge. However, after Judge Holthus made it clear that she was sending him behind bars, Redden lost it and in a fit of rage did what was caught on camera. Notably, Redden was not in custody when he arrived at the court, wearing a white shirt and dark pants, standing next to his defence attorney Caesar Almase. Notably, Redden has a comprehensive rap sheet, both in Nevada and Texas. He has faced charges ranging from battery, robbery, assault, injury to property and coercion. He previously served prison time in Nevada on a domestic battery conviction. (With inputs from agencies)
