The US coast is set to be slammed by an extreme weather event called the Bomb Cyclone. According to experts, the cyclone will likely trigger harsh conditions and create havoc in different states.

The weather phenomenon will be accompanied by heavy rainfall, very strong winds, a lot of snow and a Category 5 atmospheric river.

According to experts, states like California will receive more than eight trillion gallons of rain during the cyclone.

What is a Bomb Cyclone?

Bomb Cyclones are extreme winter storms which lead to sudden drops in temperatures within 24 hours after their arrival. It is expected that the weather system in a single day will drop the pressure by around 70 millibars, reaching as low as 942 millibars.

The name Bomb Cyclones was coined by meteorologists in the 1980s who connected the intensive weather change with bomb detonation.

The administration of United States President Joe Biden has for the first time permitted Ukraine to use the US-supplied long-range missile for striking inside Russia, Reuters and Associated Press reported citing sources.

The development marked a significant change in the policy of the United States in the Russia-Ukraine conflict.

The decision has brought a major shift in US policy, as Biden is set to leave office and President-elect Donald Trump has pledged to limit US support for Ukraine and bring an end to the ongoing war. The White House has not commented on the development.

The decision was taken months after Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky requested permission to use US weapons to strike the Russian military targets which are far away from its border.

How does Ukraine plan to use US weapons?

According to the report, Ukraine has made plans to carry out its first long-range attacks in the days ahead.

Ukraine is most likely to use the weapons in response to the decision of North Korea to send thousands of troops to Russia to support its ally in the war. This development has caused concern to both Washington and Kyiv.

Citing sources, news agency Reuters reported that the first deep strikes will be carried out by Ukraine using ATACMS rockets that have a range of up to 190 miles (306 km).

Although some US officials have expressed skepticism that permitting long-range strikes will change the overall trajectory of the war, at the moment, the decision can help Ukraine and can place Kyiv in a comparatively good negotiating position when ceasefire talks start.

It is not known if the decision of Biden will be reversed by Trump, in the wake of his stand against the US financial and military aid to Ukraine and aim to end the war quickly.

Few congressional Republicans have appealed to Biden to ease the rules on how U.S.-provided weapons can be used by Ukraine.

Russia had clearly stated that the step to loosen limits on the use of US weapons by Ukraine would be seen as a huge escalation.

The people in the midwest United States—covering Colorado, Texas, Oklahoma and Kansas—were left baffled when they saw mysterious glowing objects falling from the sky and breaking into pieces over various states.

The streaks of glowing lights appeared over the states, which left many questioning if it was a fireball, meteor shower, or some kind of alien attack.

The phenomena were reported by dozens of people at around 9 pm ET who said that the lights appeared streaking across the sky for around 60 seconds before they disappeared.

The spectacular show was captured by many people who saw red and orange shining streaks breaking into various parts before they dimmed and disappeared in the night sky, reported The Daily Mail.

Alien attack or meteor shower? Mysterious glowing objects fall from sky in midwest US

US President-elect Donald Trump on Sunday (Nov 10) demanded that Republican senators allow him to bypass the Senate confirmation process for key appointments. This, as per reports, aims to sidestep Democratic opposition and maintain momentum for his administration.

Trump made the demand on social media platform X (previously known as Twitter), stressing that any Republican senator vying for leadership must support the use of recess appointments to confirm his nominations without a Senate vote.

What is the usual process?

Under the US Constitution, the Senate typically holds the power to approve presidential appointments for senior positions, such as cabinet roles and judicial appointments. However, a provision allows presidents to bypass this process if the Senate is in an extended recess.

Historically, the Senate has used various tactics to avoid prolonged recesses to protect its influence over such nominations, reports AFP.

Trump, referring to the delays during his first term, stated that the Senate must avoid lengthy confirmation processes that could take years. He argued that “Any Republican Senator seeking the coveted LEADERSHIP position in the United States Senate must agree to Recess Appointments (in the Senate!), without which we will not be able to get people confirmed in a timely manner.”

What did Trump say?

Taking to X, Trump said, “Sometimes the votes can take two years, or more. This is what they did four years ago, and we cannot let it happen again. We need positions filled IMMEDIATELY!,” he remarked.

Trump seeks to bypass Senate confirmation process with 'recess appointments'. Here's what it means

Speaking about the historic comeback of US presidential election winner Donald Trump after winning the US presidential elections, entrepreneur-turned-politician Vivek Ramaswamy on Wednesday (Nov 6) said that he won the elections because the country needs a "ba***s commander-in-chief" right now.

The 78-year-old Trump not only clinched victory in the November 5 presidential elections in both the electoral college and popular votes but also clinched a majority in the Senate and the House of Representatives.

"Here's the reason why Donald Trump won by the largest margin of any president in modern history. He's not an ideologue. He's not a policy wonk. He's an American badass. They tried to DQ him, jail him, kill him (twice). None of it worked. Our self-appointed 'betters' in the media misunderstood him, underestimated him, doubted him," said Ramaswamy on Wednesday (Nov 6).

"But not once during this campaign did Trump misunderstand, underestimate, or doubt himself. As everyone at Mar-a-Lago celebrated around him last night, I watched him unfazed, with full conviction that he was exactly where he was destined to be," he added.

"He's just like our nation in that way. We've always believed it was our manifest destiny to be exceptional, to be the greatest nation on Earth, to show the world what's possible for humanity to achieve, even when other countries doubted us. Some still do today," Ramaswamy further said.

"But they're wrong. Trump's comeback is the American comeback. Our nation deserves a ba***s commander-in-chief right now and that's exactly what we got. Funny how well our democracy actually works," added the former Republican presidential aspirant.

Republican nominee Donald Trump on Tuesday (Nov. 5) created history by becoming only the second President in US history to win non-consecutive terms. The 79-year-old also created history by becoming the only convicted felon to be elected president of the United States.

Donald Trump a criminal?

Trump has some serious criminal charges to his name, including federal ones, and has been found guilty on 34 felony counts. This includes charges of falsifying business records to conceal a $130,000 hush money payment made to porn star Stormy Daniels so as to influence the outcome of the 2016 election.

While he was found guilty in May 2024, his sentencing originally set for July 11 has been postponed, and remains pending.

He is also facing four federal charges in the federal election interference case for undermining the 2020 election results, including conspiracy to defraud America, and conspiracy to obstruct an official proceeding.

Now that he is the President-elect, a question that comes to mind is, will he self-pardon himself?

Will presidential immunity apply to Trump?

The US Supreme Court in Nixon v. Fitzgerald (1982) ruled that US presidents have “absolute immunity” from civil damages for official actions taken while in office. However, this immunity does not apply to criminal investigations or persecution.

Technically, this immunity does not apply to Trump's convictions on charges of hush money or retaining official US government documents after his term.

The US Constitution grants the president the power to issue pardons for federal offences. This power to “grant Reprieves and Pardons for Offenses against the United States, except in Cases of Impeachment” is granted by the constitution's Article II, Section 2.

Now, whether he can self-pardon or not is a topic of debate. Legal scholars have long debated the constitutionality of self-pardons, and no president has ever attempted it.

Given how unpredictable Trump is, whether he will be the first US president to attempt self-pardon remains to be seen.

Barron is Donald's fifth and Melania's first child.

Born in 2006, Barron was raised in the Trump family's opulent penthouse in New York City and attended elite private schools on Manhattan's Upper West Side.

When Donald Trump took office in January 2017, Melania and her son remained in New York City for several months so Barron could complete his academic year. During the summers, Barron would join his family at the White House.

Trump said Barron had already taken an interest in politics and was advising him on how to attract the Gen-Z to vote for him. Barron was the brains behind his father going on a live stream with Adin Ross and other popular streamers.

Google's chief executive Sundar Pichai, in a company-wide email, issued a stark warning to the employees on Monday (Nov. 4) saying that the company must be a “trusted source of information to people of every background and belief" whosoever wins the presidential elections, The Washington Post reported.

The email sent by Pichai is being seen as an effort being made by the Silicon Valley companies to remain involved in the politics of the United States through various issues like AI-generated disinformation and social media gimmicks. However, the priority of tech companies has been to avoid conflict with Trump and his supporters.

United States former president and Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump has time and again accused the search engine giant of being biased against him and promoting “bad stories about him”. In September, Trump had also promised that if he comes to power, he will prosecute the company over alleged election interference.

"It has been determined that Google has illegally used a system of only revealing and displaying bad stories about Donald J. “This is an illegal activity, and hopefully the Justice Department will criminally prosecute them for this blatant interference of elections. If not, and subject to the laws of our country, I will request their prosecution, at the maximum levels, when I win the election, and become president of the United States,” he was quoted as saying by Reuters.

Later, Trump said that Pichai called him and spoke about his popularity on Google search. He added that the CEO was among many notable business executives and billionaires who had met him in recent months.

US Presidential Election 2024: How it will impact foreign policy?

In a new study, researchers have found that there has been a decline in the use of marijuana among teens, however, girls have been using it more in comparison to boys.

The researchers from Florida Atlantic University published the new research in Pediatric Reports which showed that even though there have been growing concerns about the usage of marijuana increasing among teens after its legalisation in the US, it has actually decreased.

The study, however, noted that girls have surpassed boys in the consumption of marijuana.

In the study, researchers analysed the trend of marijuana use among US teens from 2011 to 2021 with the use of data collected from the Youth Risk Behavior Survey of students from grades 9 to 12.

Here's what the study revealed

The study included a total sample of 88,183 US high school students who submitted their self-reports on their marijuana use.

In the time duration studied, the use of marijuana among teens was seen to have a significant decline.

The number of teens who had tried marijuana saw a decrease from 39.9 per cent in 2011 to 27.8 per cent in 2021 and the percentage of students who had reported marijuana use in the last 30 days fell from 23.1 per cent to 15.8 per cent.

There was also a decrease in the percentage of students who had used marijuana for the first time before the age of 13.

Overall the study shows that fewer teens were using marijuana.

“This finding aligns with previous research indicating that minority groups, particularly Black adolescents, may perceive lower risks associated with marijuana use, which could contribute to higher usage rates,” read the study.

An increase was noticed in the rate of marijuana use with each grade level which reached its highest rate among students of class 12.

“While we found a net decline in the percentage of marijuana use among students between 2011 and 2021 for all grade levels, there was consistently higher usage for older grades throughout all years, especially among 12th graders,” the authors stated.

The new trend which was seen in the study was girls were using marijuana more than boys by 2021. “This change is consistent with earlier reports suggesting a narrowing of the gender gap in substance use,” stated the study.

Arizona man arrested in connection with three shootings at Democratic office had over 120 guns in his home

An American Civil Liberties Union lawyer will make history in December as the first openly transgender attorney to argue before the US Supreme Court while opposing Tennessee's Republican-backed law banning gender-affirming medical care for transgender minors.

The ACLU's Chase Strangio, 41, represents a group of transgender people who pursued a lawsuit challenging the measure that prohibits medical treatment, including hormone therapy and surgeries, for minors experiencing gender dysphoria.

In one of the most consequential cases of the court's current nine-month term, the nine justices will hear arguments on Dec. 4 in an appeal by President Joe Biden's administration of a lower court's decision upholding Tennessee's ban.

The Supreme Court on Monday ordered that the argument time for the ban's challengers be divided between the Justice Department and attorneys representing the original plaintiffs who sued the state. Strangio will present the arguments for these plaintiffs at the lectern in the ornate courtroom.

ACLU Legal Director Cecillia Wang called Strangio the leading US legal expert on transgender rights.

"He brings to the lectern not only brilliant constitutional lawyering but also the tenacity and heart of a civil rights champion," Wang said.

Strangio, who joined the ACLU in 2013, is the co-director of its LGBTQ & HIV Project, helping the organisation oppose state laws targeting transgender people, including 12 legal challenges against the laws like the one at issue before the Supreme Court.

Strangio has represented people in high-profile cases, including transgender student Gavin Grimm, who fought a Virginia school board to use the bathroom corresponding with his gender identity, and Chelsea Manning, a transgender former US soldier who served time in prison for leaking classified documents.

According to the Justice Department, Tennessee is one of 22 states that have passed measures targeting medical interventions for adolescents with gender dysphoria. That is the clinical diagnosis for significant distress that can result from an incongruence between a person's gender identity and the sex they were assigned at birth.

Lawmakers supporting the restrictions have called the treatments experimental and potentially harmful. Medical associations, noting that gender dysphoria is associated with higher rates of suicide, have said gender-affirming care can be life-saving and that long-term studies show its effectiveness.

Several plaintiffs—including two transgender boys, a transgender girl, and their parents—sued in Tennessee to defend the treatments they have said improved their happiness and well-being. The Justice Department intervened in the lawsuit to also challenge the law.

The challengers contend that banning care for transgender youth violates the U.S. Constitution's 14th Amendment promise of equal protection by discriminating against these adolescents based on sex and transgender status.

In a written filing, the Justice Department highlighted that one of the law's "declared purposes is to enforce gender conformity and discourage adolescents from identifying as transgender."

The state asked the Supreme Court to let the law stand.

"Tennessee lawfully exercised its power to regulate medicine by protecting minors from risky, unproven gender-transition interventions," Tennessee Attorney General Jonathan Skrmetti said in a filing.

In a written filing, the Justice Department highlighted that one of the law's "declared purposes is to enforce gender conformity and discourage adolescents from identifying as transgender." The state asked the Supreme Court to let the law stand. "Tennessee lawfully exercised its power to regulate medicine by protecting minors from risky, unproven gender-transition interventions," Tennessee Attorney General Jonathan Skrmetti said in a filing. A federal judge blocked the law in Tennessee in 2023, finding that it likely violates the 14th Amendment. In a 2-1 decision in 2023, the Cincinnati-based 6th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals reversed the judge's preliminary injunction. Chase Strangio makes history as first openly transgender lawyer to face US supreme court

In the wake of some online posts featuring the US capitol with the caption "you are next" and the recent arrest of an Afghan man, the FBI has been on its toes amid escalating fears of the Islamic State plotting some kind of terror attack in the United States in the election month.

The Afghan man, 27-year-old Nasir Ahmad Tawhedi, arrested by the FBI in Oklahoma, was found to be planning a shootout on an election day on behalf of the terrorist organisation Islamic State as the United States gears up for the presidential polls in November.

Tawhedi confessed that he and his co-conspirator had planned to give up their lives as IS martyrs by open firing on the crowd on the election day, according to a report published in The Guardian.

Speaking on the Tawhedi case, US Attorney General Merrick Garland said that there was a continuing need to “combat the ongoing threat that (IS) and its supporters pose to America’s national security”.

Meanwhile, head of MI5 Ken McCallum said that the agency had “one hell of a job” in managing the increasing threat coming from the resurgent terrorist organisation.

After the arrest of Tawhedi, US officials later said that the plot was being allegedly directed by an operative of IS-Khorasan (IS-K), the Afghanistan-based branch.

IS-K also released a propaganda poster in September in which the American targets were placed at the top of its hitlist.

“[IS-K] has recently reiterated its intent to target the US with a poster depicting one of its militants holding a grenade in front of the US Capitol building captioned ‘you are next,’” said Lucas Webber, who is a senior threat intelligence analyst at watchdog organisation Tech Against Terrorism.

“This is additionally concerning given the branch’s mass casualty attacks on Russia and Iran, leaving the United States as the remaining adversary on this shortlist for a successful external operation,” Webber added.

He emphasised that Tawhedi's arrest hinted at the “uptick” in plotting of the IS against the United States.

“This follows a Tajik [IS suspect] arrested in Costa Rica; a central Asian network rolled up in New York City, Los Angeles and Philadelphia; as well as a Canada-based Pakistani national who was allegedly plotting an attack against a New York Jewish centre," Webber said, as reported by The Guardian.

The NGMVs are a new class of heavily armed warships incorporating stealth, high-speed, and offensive capability. The primary role of the ships would be to provide offensive capability against enemy warships, merchantmen, and land targets.

With a top speed of 35 knots (64 kmph), these vessels carry an array of anti-surface weapons.
