The voting for Russian presidential elections, which is scheduled to be held in March 2024, is set to be conducted also in the four Ukrainian regions that Russia claims to have annexed last year, Moscow said in a statement on Monday (Dec 11).

The Central Elections Commission said that the voting in March would be given a go-ahead in Donetsk, Lugansk, Zaporizhzhia and Kherson, the Ukrainian regions where Russia still doesn't have complete military control.

"The decision was adopted unanimously," commission vice-president Nikolay Bulayev said, according to the state-run news agency TASS.

The elections are set to be conducted over three days from March 15 to 17.

Earlier, Ukraine had urged the international community to "resolutely condemn Russia's intention to hold presidential elections in the occupied Ukrainian territories".

Kyiv had also called on the West to sanction individuals responsible.

Russia had previously also conducted elections in occupied regions of Ukraine. The polling was condemned by Kyiv and the West and was dubbed as null and void.

In the month of September, Moscow had also held ballots for local officials in the four Ukrainian regions.

Ukraine’s military intelligence spokesperson Andriy Yusov also seemingly hinted that Kyva was assassinated. “We can confirm that Kyva is done. Such a fate will befall other traitors of Ukraine, as well as the henchmen of the (Russian President Vladimir) Putin regime,"&nbsp;Yusov said.

He also went on to call Kyva “one of the biggest scumbags, traitors and collaborators” and said his death was “justice,” as quoted by CBS News.&nbsp;

Kyva, who was a member of the Ukrainian parliament before the Russian invasion, has been in Moscow throughout the war and often criticised officials in Kyiv online. The former lawmaker has been sentenced in absentia by a Ukrainian court to 14 years in prison for charges, including treason and incitement to violence.

As per AFP, before Russia began its “special military operation” in Ukraine, Kyva said the country has been “soaked by Nazism” and needed “liberating” by Moscow – echoing talking points which have regularly been used by Russian media, officials, even the country’s president in his speech since before launching the attack on Kyiv.&nbsp;

Earlier in the day, United States President Joe Biden pleaded with the Republicans for more funds in military aid for Ukraine stating that if Russia succeeds in its invasion of Ukraine, Moscow would attain the position of attacking NATO allies and there is a possibility that it could draw US troops into a war.

"If Putin takes Ukraine, he won’t stop there," Biden said. Putin will attack a NATO ally, he predicted, and then "we’ll have something that we don't seek and that we don't have today: American troops fighting Russian troops," Biden said.

“We can’t let Putin win,” he said.

The G7 leaders addressed the issue of support for Kyiv in their statement, vowing that they would continue to back Ukraine.

"Our steadfast commitment to supporting Ukraine's fight for its independence, sovereignty, and territorial integrity will never waver," they said.

On the Israel-Hamas conflict, the leaders said that "more effective action" was required to limit the displacement of&nbsp;civilians, and also echoed support for more pauses in the fighting allowing more aid.

Six Nepalese nationals serving in the Russian Army have been killed in the war with Ukraine, the government announced on Monday, urging Moscow not to recruit Nepali citizens into its forces.

Nepal’s Foreign Ministry in a statement identified the deceased as Pritam Karki of Syangja, Ganga Raj Moktan of Ilam, Raj Kumar Karki of Dolakha, Rupak Karki of Kapilvastu, Dewan Rai of Kaski and Sandeep Thapaliya of Gorkha.

The ministry has requested Russia to send the bodies of the Nepalis killed in the Russia-Ukraine war and provide compensation to the victims’ families, the statement said.

Nepal has also requested Russia not to recruit its citizens into the Russian army and if any Nepali nationals have been recruited, to immediately return them to Nepal.

The ministry also said that diplomatic efforts are on to release one Nepalese who has been taken hostage by Ukraine while serving in the Russian Army.

6 Nepalese killed fighting for Russia against Ukraine, says govt, seeks compensation for victims’ kin

Ukraine’s former president claims he was stopped from leaving country

Ukraine on Saturday (Dec&nbsp;2) said that the two power lines providing electricity supply to the Russian-occupied Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant were snapped overnight, and placed it&nbsp;at risk of a “nuclear accident”.

The plant remained at the centre of fighting from the time it was captured by Russian forces last year, and the two sides have held each other responsible for compromising its safety.

"Due to the complete blackout, the nuclear power plant switched to powering its own needs from 20 diesel generators," said Kyiv's nuclear operator, further stating that power was restored later.

It said that the plant was on "the verge of a nuclear and radiation accident" before Kyiv restored the off-site power. "The situation was actually saved by the prompt actions of Ukrainian specialists who restored power supply to the plant from the Ukrainian power grid," it said.

On Saturday, the energy ministry said that the power lines at&nbsp;the Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant have now been restored.

In March 2022, Russia occupied the plant, and since then it has not been generating power&nbsp;but requires&nbsp;electricity to cool one of its four reactors which remains in a state of 'hot conservation', which means that it is not completely shut down.

<h2>IAEA monitoring&nbsp;Zaporizhzhia's six-reactor plant</h2>

As per a statement published by Ukraine's energy ministry on Telegram, there was disruption in one power line to the plant on Friday, and the last, 750 kW, line was disconnected at 2:31 a.m. (0031 GMT) on Saturday.

"This is the eighth blackout which occurred at the (Zaporizhzhia plant) and could have led to nuclear catastrophe," said the statement.

The ministry stated that 20 backup generators of the plant were turned on, after it lost the grid connection, for supplying its own electricity needs.

It stated that the 750 kW line was repaired by the Ukrainian specialists at 7 a.m. (0500 GMT), which was now providing power to the plant once more.

On Saturday, the International Atomic Energy Agency confirmed that the off-site power of the plant was temporarily lost overnight, adding that this was the eighth such blackout since the conflict began.

Zaporizhzhia, a six-reactor plant has been rocked due to repeated shelling and drone attacks across the 21-month conflict. It has not been supplying electricity to the grid of Ukraine since September 2022.

Ukraine on Saturday (Dec 2) said that the two power lines providing electricity supply to the Russian-occupied Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant were snapped overnight, and placed it at risk of a “nuclear accident”. The plant remained at the centre of fighting from the time it was captured by Russian forces last year, and the two sides have held each other responsible for compromising its safety. "Due to the complete blackout, the nuclear power plant switched to powering its own needs from 20 diesel generators," said Kyiv's nuclear operator, further stating that power was restored later. It said that the plant was on "the verge of a nuclear and radiation accident" before Kyiv restored the off-site power. "The situation was actually saved by the prompt actions of Ukrainian specialists who restored power supply to the plant from the Ukrainian power grid," it said. In March 2022, Russia occupied the plant, and since then it has not been generating power but requires electricity to cool one of its four reactors which remains in a state of 'hot conservation', which means that it is not completely shut down. IAEA monitoring Zaporizhzhia's six-reactor plant As per a statement published by Ukraine's energy ministry on Telegram, there was disruption in one power line to the plant on Friday, and the last, 750 kW, line was disconnected at 2:31 a.m. (0031 GMT) on Saturday. "This is the eighth blackout which occurred at the (Zaporizhzhia plant) and could have led to nuclear catastrophe," said the statement. The ministry stated that 20 backup generators of the plant were turned on, after it lost the grid connection, for supplying its own electricity needs. It stated that the 750 kW line was repaired by the Ukrainian specialists at 7 a.m. (0500 GMT), which was now providing power to the plant once more. The safety of the plant, which requires constant maintenance to stop overheating is being monitored by the IAEA officials. Zaporizhzhia, a six-reactor plant has been rocked due to repeated shelling and drone attacks across the 21-month conflict.
