The United Kingdom has classified two types of Omicron variant — BA.4 and BA.5 — of coronavirus (COVID-19) as variants of concern, an announcement on Friday (May 20) revealed. Notably, only a fewer cases of these two types of variants have been identified in the country so far.&nbsp;

However, data by the UK Health Security Agency (UKHSA) indicates that the mentioned Omicron variants are likely to have a "growth advantage" over the current dominant variant.&nbsp;

A total of 115 cases of confirmed (or probable) BA.4 have been identified in the UK as of May 20. The cases were detected in England (67), Scotland (41), Wales (6) and Northern Ireland (1).&nbsp;

On the other hand, a total of 80 cases of BA.5 have been identified so far in England (48), Scotland (25), Northern Ireland (6) and Wales (1).&nbsp;

"Whilst the impact of these variants is uncertain, the variant classification system aims to identify potential risk as early as possible. UKHSA is undertaking further detailed studies. Data and analysis will be released in due course through our regular surveillance reporting," she added.&nbsp;

UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson would not receive further fines for the lockdown-breaching parties, British media reported after the Metropolitan (Met) police finished their probe into such gatherings in Downing Street and Whitehall during the pandemic.

So far, 126 fixed-penalty notices have been issued by the police after covering all 12 events.

The 126 fines were issued to 83 different people, the Met said. There were 53 FPNs issued to 35 men and 73 to 48 women, meaning 28 people received between two and five penalties.

Out of those, Boris Johnson and his wife Carrie&nbsp;have each received a £50 fine last month for breaking Covid laws at a birthday party for the PM in Downing Street in June 2020.

It was expected that Johnson would receive more fixed penalty notices after a probe found that he attended up to six of the lockdown gatherings.

“The Met has confirmed they are taking no further action as regards the prime minister,” The Guardian quoted Boris Johnson’s official spokesperson as saying.

"It was amazing but also surreal," said Joe, 49, who works at a communications company, at a press conference with his wife as they recounted the momentous moment they discovered online their May 10 win.&nbsp;

Beyond that, the immediate Thwaite family -- which comprises two primary school-aged children and a host of pets including horses, ponies, dogs and even geckos -- are planning a rare family holiday and likely a new car purchase.

"We never go on holiday," said Jess. "So our kids would just die to go to the sun and do that kind of thing," she added, noting one favoured Hawaii while the other wanted to go to a Texas horse ranch.

The Thwaite's jackpot sets a new&nbsp;record&nbsp;in Britain and is the second-largest in the history of EuroMillions, which is played in the territories of nine European countries.

Last October saw an unprecedented 220-million-euro jackpot claimed by an undisclosed woman -- who had never previously played the game -- on the Pacific island of Tahiti, which is part of French Polynesia.

The FTSE 100 index of leading companies sank 1.8 per cent on Thursday while the main stock markets in France and Germany also saw massive drops, BBC reported.

This came a day after US shares recorded their biggest one-day drop on Wednesday since the early days of the Covid pandemic in 2020.

On Wall Street, the Dow Jones Industrial Average fell 3.56 per cent, the S&amp;P 500 lost 4.03 per cent and the Nasdaq Composite dropped 4.73 per cent, reports Reuters.

The declines for the S&amp;P 500 and Dow marked their biggest one-day percentage declines since June 11, 2020.

Apart from that, UK recording a massive 9 per cent inflation in April—a 40-year high— spooked the European markets, raising concerns that some economies are heading for a slowdown as interest rates are increased in an attempt to counter price rises.

British inflation is now the highest among major economies in Europe, but prices are rapidly rising worldwide, forcing central banks around the globe to hike interest rates and tamp down growth as suggested by a modest decline in US homebuilding in April

The UK's biggest retailer, Tesco, fell 1.8 per cent while shares in consumer goods giant Unilever dropped nearly 1 per cent.

The 81-year-old filed his citizenship application at the&nbsp;French&nbsp;consulate in London in November last year, with a six-month deadline for the justice ministry to object elapsing on Wednesday.

"Based on the facts in his application, and without a refusal by the justice minister, Mr&nbsp;Stanley&nbsp;Johnson&nbsp;acquired&nbsp;French&nbsp;nationality on May 18 2022," the ministry told AFP.

"This decision concerns only Mr&nbsp;Stanley&nbsp;Johnson&nbsp;and does not extend to his descendants," it added.

"I'll always be European, that's for sure,"&nbsp;Stanley&nbsp;Johnson&nbsp;told RTL radio in&nbsp;French&nbsp;in a December 2020 interview.

He had come under fire at home for his plans, announced at the same time most Britons were losing the right to travel freely across the European Union as a post-Brexit "transition period" ended.

French&nbsp;law normally prevents children of its citizens from claiming nationality if their family has been abroad for more than 50 years without making use of their rights.

But their applications can still be considered if they can prove "concrete ties of a cultural, professional, economic or family nature" with France, a clause&nbsp;Stanley&nbsp;invoked in his application.

Around 3,100 British people acquired&nbsp;French&nbsp;nationality in 2020, according to the latest figures available from EU statistics agency Eurostat, making France the second most popular choice for acquiring European citizenship, after Germany.

Stanley&nbsp;Johnson&nbsp;has become a public figure in Britain following his son's political rise, appearing on a celebrity reality TV show in 2017 and appearing regularly in the media.

His ex-wife Charlotte Fawcett,&nbsp;Boris's mother told a biographer recently that&nbsp;Stanley&nbsp;had beaten her many times, breaking her nose on one occasion.

Last year two women, a Conservative MP and a journalist, accused him of groping or touching them inappropriately.

On the suspicion of indecent assault, misconduct in public office and abuse of position of trust, the suspect, who has not been identified, was arrested, said London's Metropolitan Police. &nbsp;&nbsp;

The police claimed that it got a report in January 2020 over the alleged offenses said to have been committed from 2002 to 2009 in London. &nbsp;

The detector, 'noisy' as described by BBC, works in a similar manner a metal detector does.

To detect the spread of the cancer using the Sentimag probe, a magnetised liquid (Megtrace) is injected in the tissue to be probed. The liquid gets absorbed in the cancerous tissue. The probe then detects location under the skin where the liwuid is accumulated. This gives an idea about where the cancer may have been seeded.

Use of the Sentimag probe has been included in draft guidance recommended to the NHS.

What may make this probe effective is that once injected, it follows the route cancerous cells are likely to take. The magnetised liquid gets absorbed in body's lymphatic system and get accumulate around cancerous growths. The liquid contains iron oxide, which is magnetic.

"This promising research could provide a new tool for our scientists to track and slow the spread of breast cancer, the most common cancer in the UK," said UK Health and Social Care Secretary Sajid Javid. He was quoted by the BBC.

As per data with the World Health Organisation (WHO), 2.3 million women were diagnosed with breast cancer in the year 2020 alone. There were 6,85,000 deaths globally in that year due to breast cancer.

WHO says that by the end of year 2020, there were 7.8 million women alive who had been diagnosed with breast cancer in 5 years before that.

"Approximately half of breast cancers develop in women who have no identifiable breast cancer risk factor other than gender (female) and age (over 40 years). &nbsp;Certain factors increase the risk of breast cancer including increasing age, obesity, harmful use of alcohol, family history of breast cancer, history of radiation exposure, reproductive history (such as age that menstrual periods began and age at first pregnancy), tobacco use and postmenopausal hormone therapy," says WHO.
