Breast cancer affects millions of women worldwide. UK's National Health Service (NHS) may introduce a new probe that may help in detecting and treating breast cancer that might have spread.

The detector, 'noisy' as described by BBC, works in a similar manner a metal detector does.

To detect the spread of the cancer using the Sentimag probe, a magnetised liquid (Megtrace) is injected in the tissue to be probed. The liquid gets absorbed in the cancerous tissue. The probe then detects location under the skin where the liwuid is accumulated. This gives an idea about where the cancer may have been seeded.

Use of the Sentimag probe has been included in draft guidance recommended to the NHS.

What may make this probe effective is that once injected, it follows the route cancerous cells are likely to take. The magnetised liquid gets absorbed in body's lymphatic system and get accumulate around cancerous growths. The liquid contains iron oxide, which is magnetic.

"This promising research could provide a new tool for our scientists to track and slow the spread of breast cancer, the most common cancer in the UK," said UK Health and Social Care Secretary Sajid Javid. He was quoted by the BBC.

As per data with the World Health Organisation (WHO), 2.3 million women were diagnosed with breast cancer in the year 2020 alone. There were 6,85,000 deaths globally in that year due to breast cancer.

WHO says that by the end of year 2020, there were 7.8 million women alive who had been diagnosed with breast cancer in 5 years before that.

"Approximately half of breast cancers develop in women who have no identifiable breast cancer risk factor other than gender (female) and age (over 40 years). Certain factors increase the risk of breast cancer including increasing age, obesity, harmful use of alcohol, family history of breast cancer, history of radiation exposure, reproductive history (such as age that menstrual periods began and age at first pregnancy), tobacco use and postmenopausal hormone therapy," says WHO.

UK Home Secretary Priti Patel's speech at Conservative Party dinner was disrupted by six youngsters on Friday. The group was removed from the venue but not before they filmed themselves causing the disruption.

The group of six included a cameraperson.

The Basset Bassetlaw Conservatives Spring Dinner, 40 pounds-a-head event was taking place and Patel's speech was beginning when the group started shouting. They demanded end to Patel's controversial Rwanda immigration policy.

Notably, the group even clicked selfies earlier during the event and then went on to disrupt the speech in what has been reported in British media as "highly planned plot".

The group included a grammar school girl turned vegan 'ethical influencer', a union activist and a decolonial activist.

Priti Patel's Rwanda plan includes thousands of asylum seekers to the east African country.

The plan, unveiled by Prime Minister Boris Johnson last month, seeks to act as a deterrent to migrants who make illegal boat crossings to Britain from France. It has drawn heavy criticism from political opponents and campaigners.

In an exchange of letters with Patel, the top official in the Home Office highlighted uncertainty over the scheme's value to the taxpayer.

The government has said it would contribute an initial 120 million pounds ($156 million) to the scheme.

"I do not believe sufficient evidence can be obtained to demonstrate that the policy will have a deterrent effect significant enough to make the policy value for money," Home Office Permanent Secretary Matthew Rycroft said.

The number of flying insects has fallen drastically in UK by as much as 60 per cent between 2004 and 2021, a recent survey has revealed, warning of dire consequences for crop pollination and natural food chains.

The scientists who took out this survey warned that the drop was “terrifying”, as life on Earth depends on insects, The Guardian reported.

According to a survey by Kent Wildlife Trust and Buglife, moths, flies, aphids, bees and flying beetles declined by almost 60 per cent in less than 20 years.

The drop was also witnessed among pollinators—the insects who perform natural pest control, break down organic matter and return nutrients to the soil—the survey noted.

The study has raised fears that a loss of pollinators could cause a shortage of food crops.

The aim of the survey was to count bug splats on car registration plates. For this, they created an app called Bugs Matter for use by ordinary citizens.

Users were asked to clean their license plates before heading out in their vehicle and then click pictures of the number of bugs they found splattered on the plates when they returned.

Those records were then sent to the team at Buglife, and they collated the data into a count of bug splats over a given time period for the entire UK—in this instance from 2004 to 2021.

It was later found that the fall was highest in England at 65 per cent with Wales recording 55 per cent fewer insects and Scotland 28 per cent.

“This vital study suggests that the number of flying insects is declining by an average of 34% per decade – this is terrifying,” The Guardian quoted Matt Shardlow of Buglife as saying.

“We cannot put off action any longer, for the health and wellbeing of future generations this demands a political and a societal response. It is essential that we halt biodiversity decline now.”

A man from the UK was handed a hefty fine for eating McDonald's meal at the parking zone of Starbucks.

Bob Spink, a 50-year-old diver, left fumed when he received a letter to his residence informing him about his 100 pounds (US $123) fine, despite not even leaving his car while having his meal, The Metro newspaper reported.

“We had only bought a £12 order from McDonald’s and the car park was entirely full, so we parked in Starbucks to eat as there was plenty of space,’ Spink was quoted as saying.

“It just feels like legalised theft, I haven’t done anything wrong legally.”

Bob visited McDonald's in Fabian Way with his girlfriend. When couldn’t find a parking space at the burger joint, they decided to stop at the nearby Starbucks parking lot to quickly finish up their meal.

“I was baffled by it, we have just moved here and it’s something you can’t ignore as it only gets worse and increases the fee,” he added.

The letter he received said that his fine can be reduced to £60 if he pays within 14 days.

I don't understand what they are trying to achieve and it doesn't look great for the chain to use parking enforcement with such tactics," he said.

According to Wales Online, the parking zone of the aforementioned Starbucks branch is handled by National Parking Enforcement Ltd (NPE).

“It just feels like legalised theft, I haven’t done anything wrong legally.” Bob visited McDonald's in Fabian Way with his girlfriend.
