Where Does The Long Arm Of The Facebook, Twitter & Google End? What Can India Do To Make Them Accountable? Twitter, Facebook and the like make millions of dollars here. India is the biggest and the fastest growing markets for these firms. But they don't even turn up to meet Indian Government officials for crucial discussions. They send their representatives and take India lightly. On #WionEdit, Palki explain the need to scrutinise these tech giants before it's too late.

Ayushmann Khurrana has a hilarious take on #SareeTwitter trend

<p>After initial hesitation, a growing number of Republicans in the US Congress including almost half the Ohio delegation in the House have openly criticised <a href="https://www.wionews.com/world/donald-trump-has-discussed-iran-nuclear-standoff-with-macron-white-house-234187">President Donald Trump</a> over his racially charged attacks on four Democratic lawmakers.</p>

<p>Three Republicans from Texas, a solidly pro-Trump state, also voiced some level of concern about his comments targeting the four minority women, joining the critics from Ohio, a key battleground state for Trump as he seeks re-election in 2020.</p>

<p>Fear of retribution from the president, who readily inveighs on Twitter against almost anyone he perceives as an opponent, has kept most Republicans quiet in the House of Representatives and the Senate almost since Trump took power in January 2017.</p>

<div class="videoWrapper trancodeVideo"><iframe src="https://www.wionews.com/videos/gravitas-trump-criticised-for-racist-rant-236528/embed" width="560" height="350" style="width:100%;max-width:560px;" class="includeVideo" frameborder="0" autoplay=1 allowfullscreen></iframe></div>

<p>But as of late Tuesday, about three dozen of the 250 in Congress, or 14 per cent, had called him out on his statements.</p>

<p>Texas Representative Will Hurd, for instance, called Trump's tweets from the weekend "racist and xenophobic" and "unbecoming of the leader of the free world."</p>

<p>Fellow Texan Pete Olson also distanced himself, saying he is proud to represent "the most diverse Congressional district in America," and urged the president to disavow his comments.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Ohio Representative Mike Turner called Trump`s words "racist." Another four Ohio Republicans joined Turner in condemning the tweets.</p>

<p>Trump tweeted during the weekend that the four congresswomen should “go back and help fix the totally broken and crime-infested places from which they came.” All four are US citizens and three were born in the United States.</p>

<p>Senate Republican leader Mitch McConnell, while refraining from directly criticizing Trump, said on Tuesday that public debate should be about ideas, not personal attacks.</p>

<p>House Republican Leader Kevin McCarthy dismissed the debate and an effort by House Democrats to pass a resolution condemning the president`s remarks as "all politics."</p>

<p>Republicans who criticise Trump risk his enduring ire, said Alex Conant, a Republican political strategist who worked for Florida Senator Marco Rubio in the 2016 presidential primaries.</p>

<p>“Trump never forgets a Republican who is disloyal to him,” Conant said, adding that “Republicans are very wary of criticising Trump because they don’t want to face his retribution in the primaries.”</p>

<p>In 2020, Trump will ask US voters to re-elect him. All 435 House seats are also up for grabs and a third of the 100 Senate seats. Of the nearly one dozen Republican senators who criticized Trump`s remarks, only three face serious re-election challenges.&nbsp;</p>

<p>But Senate Republicans in swing states may find that "a little bit of independence from Trump" helps, Conant noted.</p>

<p>"Every member has their own calculus and certainly some of them are taking a principled position, regardless of the politics," Conant said.</p>

<p>"But for the vast majority of Republican members, the lesson of the last two years is don`t comment on Trump`s tweets because they have a short shelf life, but the damage you can do to yourself can be permanent."</p>

<p>Nineteen per cent of US Twitter users follow <a href="https://www.wionews.com/world/thousands-of-companies-leaving-china-that-is-why-they-want-make-a-deal-trump-236190">President Donald Trump</a> on the social platform, and a majority of those people approve of his job performance, a survey showed Monday.</p>

<p>The Pew Research Center report suggests Trump's @realDonaldTrump account -- with more than 60 million followers worldwide -- has succeeded in developing an audience largely favourable to his comments, which often generate controversy.</p>

Nineteen per cent of US Twitter users follow President Donald Trump on the social platform, and a majority of those people approve of his job performance, a survey showed Monday. The Pew Research Center report suggests Trump's @realDonaldTrump account -- with more than 60 million followers worldwide -- has succeeded in developing an audience largely favourable to his comments, which often generate controversy. <p>Marvel may have decided to re-release ' Avengers: Endgame' in order to compete with the all-time collection 'Avatar' but fans are not too happy with the additional scenes that feature in the new version of the film.&nbsp;<br />
<br />
The <a href="https://www.wionews.com/entertainment/avengers-endgame-heres-whats-in-the-re-release-231882">new footage in the film </a>is reportedly a tribute to Stan Lee. It’s not new but has been cut by taking clips from the various cameos he did during his life in Marvel films. The footage features a deleted scene that has Hulk --many speculate that it could be his introduction shot as it has a perfect balance of Mark Ruffalo’s character Hulk merged with his alter-ego, Bruce Banner.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The scene has Hulk saving some children from a fire and making a phone call. However, Hulk isn’t properly depicted and even his mouth doesn’t move when he delivers his dialogue- which obviously hasn't gone down too well with fans.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Twitter is, in fact, up in arms over the half-finished scene with many comparing it to the 2003 Hulk game and the infamous CGI upper lip of Superman in Justice League.</p>

<p>“They could have done ANYTHING literally ANYTHING with the amount of footage they have. they could give us bloopers, deleted scenes, but they chose to give us a half-assed clip that wasn’t even completely rendered?? why???” an angry fan wrote on Twitter.</p>

<p><a href="https://www.wionews.com/world/mark-zuckerbergs-deepfake-video-posted-on-instagram-226388">Facebook Inc Chief Executive Mark Zuckerberg </a>on Wednesday said his social media company took too long to flag as false an altered video of US House Speaker Nancy Pelosi that appeared to show the Democratic Representative slurring and tripping through a speech.</p>

<p>Zuckerberg, speaking at a conference in Aspen Colorado, said the slow response was "an execution mistake on our side."</p>

<p>The video, a type of realistic alteration known as a "deep fake," was slowed to make Pelosi's speech seem slurred and edited to make it appear that she repeatedly stumbled over her words. After the video surfaced last month, it was widely shared on Facebook, Twitter and Alphabet Inc's YouTube.</p>

<p>"It took a while for our system to flag the video and for our fact checkers to rate it as false... and during that time it got more distribution than our policies should have allowed," Zuckerberg said.</p>

The sudden withdrawn has come as surprise as Shanahan was expected to be confirmed by senators and Trump both. In May former White House spokesperson, Sarah Sanders had said that President Trump intends to nominate Patrick M Shanahan to be the secretary of defence "Based upon his outstanding service to the country and his demonstrated ability to lead, President Trump intends to nominate Patrick M Shanahan to be the secretary of defence," Sanders had said in a statement. Shanahan, 56, was thrust into the role in an acting capacity in January after Jim Mattis abruptly resigned over policy differences with Trump. Former Boeing executive, Shanahan had been under investigation by the Pentagon inspector general for allegedly seeking preferential treatment of Boeing while at the Defence Department but he was cleared of wrongdoing in April. Shanahan has been serving in an acting capacity since the start of the year, making him the longest acting defence secretary ever. He joined Boeing in 1986 and spent more than three decades there, working on the 737 and 787 Dreamliner commercial aeroplanes. Shanahan was also the president and general manager of Boeing Missile Defense Systems and worked on the Apache, Chinook and Osprey military aircraft. (With inputs from agencies)

Instagram, PlayStation hit with outages; users vent on Twitter

<p>A five-year-old boy who tested positive for Ebola in Uganda has died, a health ministry official told AFP Wednesday as two of his family members also tested positive for the virus after a visit to the neighbouring Democratic Republic of Congo.</p>

<p>The World Health Organisation confirmed on Twitter that Uganda has now recorded three cases of Ebola, in the first spread across the country's porous western border with the DRC where more than 2,000 cases of the highly contagious virus have been registered.</p>

<p>Uganda's health ministry said on Tuesday that a woman of Congolese origin, who is married to a Ugandan, had gone with her child and four other family members to take care of her father in the DRC, who later died of Ebola.</p>

<p>"The boy who tested positive for Ebola in Kasese yesterday passed on last night in the isolation unit," a health ministry official told AFP on condition of anonymity.</p>

<p>"The minister for health (Ruth Aceng) will be briefing the country about the death of the boy and arrangements to bury the body."</p>

<p>The official said the child was likely to be buried Wednesday.</p>

<p>DRC Health Minister Oly Ilunga Kalenga said the family were placed in isolation after being identified as in contact with an Ebola patient.</p>

<p>"During the isolation, some family members crossed into Uganda. As soon as they crossed, we contacted the Ugandan authorities," he told AFP in an interview Wednesday.</p>

<p>Uganda's health ministry said the family members had been identified and were placed in isolation in Bwera, a town near the border with DRC.&nbsp;</p>

<p>"Two more samples were sent to UVRI (Uganda Virus Research Institute) and have tested positive. We, therefore, have three confirmed cases of Ebola in Uganda," the WHO Uganda posted on its Twitter account, citing a briefing from Ugandan Health Minister Ruth Aceng in Kasese in the country's west.</p>

<p>Eight other people in contact with the family had been tracked down and were being monitored, the health ministry said.</p>

<p><strong>High alert</strong></p>

<p>East Africa has been on high alert since the outbreak in the eastern DRC.</p>

<p>According to the WHO, Uganda vaccinated nearly 4,700 health workers in 165 facilities with an experimental drug designed to protect them against the virus.</p>

<p>South Sudan has also declared a state of alert and vaccinated health workers.</p>

<p>Uganda has experienced several outbreaks in the past, most recently in 2012, while in 2000 more than 200 people died in an outbreak in the north of the country.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The Red Cross said it was scaling up efforts to contain the spread of the virus since it was detected in Uganda.</p>

A five-year-old boy who tested positive for Ebola in Uganda has died, a health ministry official told AFP Wednesday as two of his family members also tested positive for the virus after a visit to the neighbouring Democratic Republic of Congo.

A five-year-old boy who tested positive for Ebola in Uganda has died, a health ministry official told AFP Wednesday as two of his family members also tested positive for the virus after a visit to the neighbouring Democratic Republic of Congo. The World Health Organisation confirmed on Twitter that Uganda has now recorded three cases of Ebola, in the first spread across the country's porous western border with the DRC where more than 2,000 cases of the highly contagious virus have been registered. Uganda's health ministry said on Tuesday that a woman of Congolese origin, who is married to a Ugandan, had gone with her child and four other family members to take care of her father in the DRC, who later died of Ebola. "The boy who tested positive for Ebola in Kasese yesterday passed on last night in the isolation unit," a health ministry official told AFP on condition of anonymity. "The minister for health (Ruth Aceng) will be briefing the country about the death of the boy and arrangements to bury the body." The official said the child was likely to be buried Wednesday. DRC Health Minister Oly Ilunga Kalenga said the family were placed in isolation after being identified as in contact with an Ebola patient. "During the isolation, some family members crossed into Uganda. As soon as they crossed, we contacted the Ugandan authorities," he told AFP in an interview Wednesday. Uganda's health ministry said the family members had been identified and were placed in isolation in Bwera, a town near the border with DRC. "Two more samples were sent to UVRI (Uganda Virus Research Institute) and have tested positive. We, therefore, have three confirmed cases of Ebola in Uganda," the WHO Uganda posted on its Twitter account, citing a briefing from Ugandan Health Minister Ruth Aceng in Kasese in the country's west. Eight other people in contact with the family had been tracked down and were being monitored, the health ministry said. High alert East Africa has been on high alert since the outbreak in the eastern DRC. According to the WHO, Uganda vaccinated nearly 4,700 health workers in 165 facilities with an experimental drug designed to protect them against the virus. South Sudan has also declared a state of alert and vaccinated health workers. Uganda has experienced several outbreaks in the past, most recently in 2012, while in 2000 more than 200 people died in an outbreak in the north of the country. The Red Cross said it was scaling up efforts to contain the spread of the virus since it was detected in Uganda. "This is a worrying development, but we have been preparing for this day for months now," Robert Kwesiga, Uganda Red Cross Secretary General, said in a statement Wednesday. The DRC has struggled to contain the outbreak which was first recorded in North Kivu province and then spread to neighbouring Ituri and has left over 1,300 dead.
