<p>The situation has worsened in the rebel-held areas where aid convoys cannot reach the country's government-held without the authorisation of Damascus.</p>

<p>The single border crossing which was open for the transfer of aid was also disrupted by the earthquake.</p>

<p>"This afternoon I met with &nbsp;President Assad, who indicated he was open to considering additional cross-border access points for this emergency," said Tedros. during a virtual press conference from the Syrian capital.</p>

<p>Tedros appreciated the "recent blanket approval by the government of Syria for the UN for cross-line conveys" to transfer aid into the rebel-held areas.</p>

<p>However, he added that although cross-line aid convoys have been given the all-clear by Damascus to enter government-held areas, WHO is still waiting for the green light. "We're on standby," he said.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Pointing to the proactive role played by Indian relief and rescue teams, Indian ambassador to Turkey, Dr&nbsp;Virander Paul while speaking to WION,&nbsp;said that Indian relief and rescue "teams on the ground are carrying out their&nbsp;work" and "focus has mainly been on assisting the Turkish authorities to carry out search&nbsp;and rescue operations."&nbsp;</p>

<p>India has shown its unwavering support to the people of Turkey&nbsp;in the wake of the recent earthquake that has affected over 13 million people in 10 provinces. Under operation Dost, 6 C17 aircraft loaded with humanitarian aid, medical equipment, and supplies have arrived in the country since the earthquake that struck the country last Monday.</p>

<p>The situation of Indians in Turkey&nbsp;is also being closely monitored. So far, 130 Indians have been accounted for, but in some&nbsp;unfortunate news, one Indian has been confirmed dead. Speaking&nbsp;from Adana, the Turkey&nbsp;ambassador said, "We are in process of the earliest possible transportation of the mortal remains of the deceased to his family."</p>

In addition, the Indian army had set up a hospital at a place called&nbsp;İskenderun&nbsp;in Hatay province. It is a 30-bed hospital, with 99 members on the team. It has anesthetists, orthopedic surgeons, general surgeons, and other specialists. The work of the hospital is progressing very well.&nbsp;</p>

Indian teams proactively assisting search and rescue operations, says Indian ambassador to Turkey

<p>&nbsp;A Turkish boy, aged nine, &nbsp;donated his entire savings collected in a piggy bank to support the relief efforts being carried out for the survivors of the latest earthquakes which hit Turkey and claimed 34,000 lives so far.</p>

<p>Alparslan Efe Demir had earlier survived an earthquake of 5.9 magnitudes which had jolted the northwestern Duzce province of Turkey in November 2022 and was forced to spend some months in an earthquake relief camp which was established by Turkey's Disaster and Emergency Management Presidency (AFAD), reported TRT World.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Nine-year-old Demir was left heartbroken after he witnessed the colossal destruction caused by the massive earthquake and the thousands of lives lost in the disaster. Upset over human suffering, Demir expressed his wish to donate his piggy bank saving in the relief funds to his mother Sinem Demir.</p>

<p>According to the report, a letter was written by Demir for the earthquake survivors.</p>

<p>"I was very scared when there was an earthquake in Duzce. I had the same fear when I heard about the earthquake in many of our cities. That is why I decided to send the pocket money given by my elders to the children there. It is okay if I do not buy chocolate here. Children there should not be cold or hungry. I will send my clothes and toys to the children there," the boy wrote.</p>

Upset over human suffering, Demir expressed his wish to donate his piggy bank saving in the relief funds to his mother Sinem Demir. I had the same fear when I heard about the earthquake in many of our cities. That is why I decided to send the pocket money given by my elders to the children there. It is okay if I do not buy chocolate here. Children there should not be cold or hungry. I will send my clothes and toys to the children there," the boy wrote. The army hospital is providing relief packages and medical assistance to the victims. The hospital has been set up as part of Operation Dost (or friend in Hindi) launched by India to help Turkey in the aftermath of the earthquake.</p>

<p>A school building has been repurposed to house the 60 Para Field Hospital where 96 people, including orthopaedic surgeons, are treating victims.</p>

<p>According to Lieutenant Colonel Adarsh, second in command at the hospital, the type of casualties have been “multi-trauma cases as expected in this kind of disaster” and “neglected trauma”. He said around 10 surgeries have been performed.</p>

<p>The death toll from a catastrophic earthquake that hit Turkey&nbsp;and Syria climbed to 33,000 on Sunday, with the United Nations warning that the final number may double.</p>

<p>Officials and medics said 29,605 people had died in Turkey and 3,574 in Syria from Monday's 7.8-magnitude tremor, bringing the confirmed total to 33,179.</p>

<p>A UN convoy with supplies for northwest Syria arrived via Turkey, but the agency's relief chief Martin Griffiths said much more was needed for millions whose homes were destroyed.</p>

<p>"We have so far failed the people in northwest Syria. They rightly feel abandoned. Looking for international help that hasn't arrived," tweeted Martin Griffiths relief chief at the UN.</p>

<p>In Istanbul's Beykoz district, six suspects were arrested for deceiving an earthquake victim in southern Gaziantep, over&nbsp;telephone.</p>

<p>According to reports, the suspects, posing themselves as telecommunications workers, said they could help the victim if he provides his personal banking information.</p>
