NASA’s James Webb Space Telescope completed its mirror alignment perfectly and according to the space agency, it was able to take a test shot of the surroundings. The image, which was released by NASA, was taken with the help of the 21.3-foot-wide (6.5 meters) mirror composed of 18 hexagonal segments and the officials believed that the technology has&nbsp;worked "better than expected".<o:p></o:p>

The test shot, which was taken around 1.6 million kilometres away from earth, was proof that the mirrors on the telescope worked perfectly and over a month after taking its position at the second Lagrange Point (L2), this was the first time that it was able to take a test shot of star HD 84406.

The shape of the mirrors and filters made the star look red and spiky and the image also captured a number of galaxies around the star. &nbsp;“You can’t help but see those thousands of galaxies behind it, really gorgeous,” said Jane Rigby, Webb operations project scientist according to AFP.<o:p></o:p>

“Those galaxies are several billions of years old. Eventually, scientists hope Webb will see so far away and back in time that it will only be “a couple hundred million years after the Big Bang,” she added.<o:p></o:p>

The alignment of the mirrors was an important achievement for the James Webb Space Telescope and NASA confirmed that no critical issues were found when it comes to its optical path.

Hubble Telescope's rival is set for take off in the next year! The Superpressure Balloon-borne Imaging Telescope (SuperBIT) will be sent into the upper atmosphere via a strapped balloon - roughly the size of a modern stadium.

Scientists behind the project are pitching SuperBIT as Hubble's successor.

The telescope cost $5 million and offers flexibility for it can be flown down for repairs and upgrades as per needs. On the other hand, the Hubble telescope was built with $1.5 billion!

The floating observatory - one of its kind, was built by scientists from Durham, Princeton and Toronto universities in collaboration with NASA and Canadian Space Agency.

Scientists are also considering the possibility of a whole fleet of airborne telescopes in the future.

The report claims the scientists at the agency were able to create a new atlas of the universe with almost three million galaxies in forms of pictures revealing twice the detail of the previous images. The data around this new discovery is publically available and can help fellow scientists to study "everything from star formation to how galaxies and their super-massive black hole evolve and interact," the lead author Dr David McConnell said.

"We expect to find tens of millions of new galaxies in future surveys," he added.

This has been possible due to the&nbsp;Australian Square Kilometre Array Pathfinder (Askap) which is a collection of 36 dish antennas that work in coordination to capture panoramic views of the sky.

Spread across an area of 6km&nbsp;(3.7 miles)&nbsp;at the CSIRO's Murchison observatory about 700km north of Perth (Australia),&nbsp;this telescope combines signals from the smaller dishes and then creates&nbsp;high-resolution images for the scientists to study. The whole process is, however, costing a fraction of what a large dish usually costs, CSIRO claimed.

For the first time, Askap conducted an&nbsp;all-sky survey and covered 83 per cent of the sky. Using the technology, scientists were able to combine&nbsp;903 high-resolution and&nbsp;detailed images. The scientists hope to find answers to the structuring and evolution of the Earth.

This galaxy is 500 million light-years away from Cassiopeia. The galaxy is called TXS 0128+554. It is an active galaxy that emits more life than all of the stars within the galaxy altogether.

This galaxy was originally discovered in 2015 through gamma rays. However, scientists haven’t had a full grasp of what it looked like until now.

Matthew Lister, Purdue University professor and lead author of the study that examined the galaxy, said it reminded him of “Star Wars.”

He said: "We zoomed in a million times closer on the galaxy using the (Very Long Baseline Array’s) radio antennas and charted its shape over time. The first time I saw the results, I immediately thought it looked like Darth Vader’s TIE fighter spacecraft from ‘Star Wars: Episode IV – A New Hope.’"&nbsp;

"That was a fun surprise, but its appearance at different radio frequencies also helped us learn more about how active galaxies can change dramatically on decade time scales," he added.&nbsp;

The telescope, which has taken about five years to build, is expected to begin operations in September, state run Xinhua news agency said.
