Taylor Swift's record-shattering "Eras Tour" is set to end on Sunday in Vancouver with the final performance of a cultural phenomenon that has easily become the highest-grossing musical tour in history.

The globe-spanning event kicked off in the US state of Arizona on March 17, 2023.

When it ends in the Canadian city this weekend, the American singer/songwriter will have performed 149 shows with stops from Buenos Aires to Paris and Tokyo.

Swift's camp has not publicly released ticket revenue numbers for the tour, but the widely cited trade magazine Pollstar has estimated the figure at well over $2 billion.

That smashes the record previously held by Elton John's pandemic-interrupted Farewell Yellow Brick Road Tour, which sold an estimated $939 million in tickets over 328 shows spread across five years.

Beyond the concerts, Swift's presence in venue cities has supercharged local economies.

Her second-last tour stop was Toronto, where she performed six shows over two weekends.

She generated an additional Can$282 million ($199 million) in economic activity in Canada's largest city, tourism promotion organization Destination Toronto estimated.

Prime Minister Justin Trudeau attended one of the Toronto shows with his family.

Last year, before the announcement that Eras would include Canadian stops, Trudeau issued a public appeal urging Swift to come.

"I know places in Canada would love to have you. So, don't make it another Cruel Summer. We hope to see you soon," Trudeau posted on X in July 2023, referring to a hit song from Swift's 2019 album, "Lover."

Not all the political attention Swift attracted during Eras was positive.

Shortly after the US presidential debate between Donald Trump and Kamala Harris in September, Swift endorsed the Democrat for president.

That triggered an all-caps Trump post on the former president's Truth Social platform that simply said, "I HATE TAYLOR SWIFT."

- 'Super Bowl suspense' -

Eras also earned sterling critical acclaim, with reviewers praising Swift's stamina and energy through shows that have averaged just under four hours.

The New York Times called opening night in Glendale, Arizona a "master class." The Vancouver Sun called Friday's show, her third last, "spectacular."

A setback came this summer in Vienna when three shows were canceled after authorities arrested a man in connection with an Islamist attack plot.

And tragedy struck when a fan died from heat exhaustion during a show in Rio de Janeiro in November of last year.

Unprecedented ticket demand led to frustration for many fans and forced Ticketmaster initially to scrap presale plans.

Eras also included a "will she, won't she" moment of suspense that transcended the world of pop music.

The question was whether Swift had enough time after finishing a show in Tokyo on February 10 to make it to Las Vegas in time for kickoff at football's Super Bowl to see her boyfriend, Travis Kelce, play for the Kansas City Chiefs.

It is rare for a non-football storyline to dominate discussion ahead of America's premier sporting event.

But concern about Swift's schedule was so acute that the Japanese embassy in Washington issued a statement affirming she would "comfortably" make the game.

From a private box, along with Kelce's mother, Donna, Swift chugged a beer and watched the Chiefs beat the San Francisco 49ers -- as more than 200 million TV viewers watched her.

Taylor Swift's record-breaking Eras tour set for final show

No surprise! Taylor Swift has topped the streaming charts again.

With an eventful year to her credit – for all her sold-out concerts across the globe and paparazzi-followed romance with Travis Kelce, Taylor Swift has had her moments this year. Now, as Spotify released its Spotify Wrapped 2024 year-end data dive, Taylor can be seen back at the top.

It's Taylor Swift's year for the second time in a row

According to streaming numbers, Taylor Swift is the number 1 most-streamed artist globally in 2024 on Spotify. She has become the most-streamed artist for the second time in a row. It is all because of her last album, The Tortured Poets Department, which was the most-streamed album of the year on Spotify.

After Swift, Spotify’s most-streamed artists of the year worldwide were the Weeknd, Bad Bunny, Drake, and Billie Eilish.

Notably, Swift’s Tortured Poets broke several Spotify records, including becoming the first album to top 300 million streams in one day and more than 1 billion in the first week of release.

Interestingly, this has been the year of women artists. The top eight of the 10 most-streamed albums worldwide on Spotify are by women. These include “Hit Me Hard and Soft” by Billie Eilish (No. 2), Sabrina Carpenter’s “Short n’ Sweet” (No. 3), Karol G’s “Mañana Será Bonito” (No. 4), Ariana Grande’s “Eternal Sunshine” (No. 5), Swift’s “1989 (Taylor’s Version)” (No. 6), SZA’s “SOS” (No. 7), and Swift’s “Lover” (No. 8).

To celebrate Swift’s reprise as the most-streamed artist, Spotify is adding some sprinkles on top for her fans. For the first time, Spotify is adding a Wrapped badge to Taylor Swift’s Spotify profile, marking the inaugural year of what the company says will be an annual distinction.

Taylor Swift is most-streamed artist of 2024, women ruled most charts: Spotify 2024 trends

Swifties are not happy with Billboard's latest tribute video on Taylor Swift. On Thursday, Billboard named Taylor Swift as the no 2 greatest pop star of the 21st century. While the new ranking was a reason for celebration for her fans, who call themselves Swifties, the tribute video for the singer that Billboard made did not go down well with her fans.

Billboard shared a tribute video for Taylor Swift on its social media handles with the caption, “@taylorswift takes the No. 2 spot on Billboard’s list of the Greatest Pop Stars of the 21st Century. (silver medal emoji).”

However, a part of the tribute video featured footage from Kanye West aka Ye's 2016 music video of Famous. The video has Taylor's naked wax statue next to West's and others. The vocals suggest he and Taylor “might still have sex” because he “made that b**ch famous" is also part of the tribute video.

Naturally, this particular portion did not go down well with many of Swift's fans. An Instagram user commented on the old video, “Apologize publicly to Taylor Swift.” Another wrote vehemently, “What happened was truly disgusting!!!” “Your attitude as a ‘serious’ music portal was shameful,” read a third comment, while a fourth stated, “Yall did her dirty. APOLOGIZE.”

Billboard issues apology

Billboard removed the video from its social media handles hours after it was first posted and shared the revised one, sans the footage from Famous. It also stated in the caption, “We are deeply sorry to Taylor Swift and all of our readers and viewers that in a video celebrating Swift’s achievements, we included a clip that falsely depicted her. We have removed the clip from our video and sincerely regret the harm we caused with this error.”

(silver medal emoji).” However, a part of the tribute video featured footage from Kanye West aka Ye's 2016 music video of Famous. APOLOGIZE.” In pics: Taylor Swift vs Kanye West: Things you should know about decade-long feud Billboard issues apology Billboard removed the video from its social media handles hours after it was first posted and shared the revised one, sans the footage from Famous. It also stated in the caption, “We are deeply sorry to Taylor Swift and all of our readers and viewers that in a video celebrating Swift’s achievements, we included a clip that falsely depicted her. We have removed the clip from our video and sincerely regret the harm we caused with this error.” View this post on Instagram A post shared by billboard (@billboard) × Some of Swift's fans were also upset that the top spot of the Billboard Greatest Pop Star in the 21st Century was awarded to Beyonce instead of their favourite star.
Taylor Swift dominated the 2024 MTV Europe Music Awards in Manchester on Sunday. The singer picked up four awards on a night dominated by female artists, including Tyla and Sabrina Carpenter.

The ceremony's 30th edition, which brought the biggest names in world music to northwest England, saw Swift take home trophies for best artist, best live, best US act and best video for her collaboration with Post Malone in "Fortnight".

Swift was not at the ceremony but in a pre-recorded message, expressed sadness for not being able to attend the event in person. Swift added that the honour was 'just unbelievable.' Tyla won three awards, including Best R&B, while Carpenter won Best Song.

British singer Rita Ora hosted the awards, which were held in Britain for the seventh time.

Swift, whose ongoing Eras tour is the most lucrative in history, was nominated in seven categories following the release this year of her 11th album The Tortured Poets Department.

In the best artist category, she competed against compatriots Beyonce, Billie Eilish, Post Malone, and British star Raye, who won a record six gongs at this year's Brit Awards.
The teenage suspect in the July knife attack in the UK at a Taylor Swift-themed event was charged with producing a deadly poison and "terrorism" offences on Tuesday (Oct 29). The attack occurred in July 2024 killed three young girls and sparked anti-immigration riots in the country. The charges against 18-year-old Axel Rudakubana came after police launched a search of his house and found an al Qaeda training manual with the title "Military Studies in the Jihad Against the Tyrants: The Al-Qaeda Training Manual". "Searches of Axel Rudakubana's home address resulted in an unknown substance being found. Testing confirmed the substance as ricin. We have worked extensively with partners to establish that there was a low to very low risk to the public. And I want to make that reassurance clear today. I can also tell you that there was no ricin present at Hart St," The Merseyside Police Chief Serena Kennedy said. Kennedy also added in the statement that the new charges against the teenage boy were for producing a poison named ricin, and "possessing information...likely to be useful to a person committing or preparing an act of terrorism." The stabbings sparked unrest and riots in more than a dozen English towns and cities in the week, with authorities blaming misinformation over the identity of the alleged attacker. In their statement on Tuesday, police stressed that the stabbing has not been declared a terror act and cautioned against speculation. "At this time, Counter Terrorism Policing has not declared the attack on Monday (July 29) a terrorist incident," the statement said. Taylor Swift’s new reputation era outfit has a hidden message for her fans

Taylor Swift is the unlikely cause of a political storm for Keir Starmer, whose government alleged gave the US pop star VVIP treatment during her Eras Tour concerts in London, with sources in his office now confirming that the UK prime minister also met her during one of her massive gigs.

A section of the media and the opposition Conservatives have been hammering Starmer over this for weeks now, which is part of the larger freebies and donations row facing the Labour government.

×

The Guardian reported on Tuesday (Oct 15) citing No 10, Downing Street sources that Starmer indeed met Swift at the backstage of a concert, a day after his government decided to grant her a so-called 'blue light' police escort. An official spokesperson, however, denied that tickets that Starmer and family got for the concerts were a 'thank you' gift.

According to the report, Starmer and his family met Swift and her mother Andrea for 10 minutes backstage at Wembley Stadium on August 20. They talked about the stabbing incident at a Taylor Swift-themed children's party that left three kids dead, and sparked off a series of racially charged riots in July.

Also read: British PM Keir Starmer's latest gaffe, calls for 'return of sausages' from Hamas captivity - WATCH

But the sources who spoke to The Guardian said Starmer did not discuss the police motorcade convoy that had been given to Swift and her entourage.

The prime minister's office has maintained that the decision to offer such protection to Swift was an operational matter taken by Scotland Yard, the UK's police department.

The report comes amid initial refusal from Starmer's office to confirm if he had met Swift.

Starmer was under pressure to share details of his brush-by with Swift after The Sun and others reported it, after he was invited to the concert at Wembley stadium on August 16 along with family by Universal Music.

As required by parliament rules, Starmer declared that he got the tickets worth £2,800 for the concert. He later coughed up the money for it, after massive criticism that he had been accepting such freebies worth thousands of pounds.

Taylor Swift VIP treatment in London. Why is it controversial?

The issue is the decision by authorities to provide Swift a police convoy by the Special Escort Group or SEG. The elite group of the Metropolitan police was apparently brought in for Swift's security because she pulled out of her scheduled concerts in Vienna following a foiled Islamic State-inspired terror attack plot there.

According to reports, Met Police was not interested in giving such treatment, but the decision was taken anyway after London Mayor Sadiq Khan and home secretary Yvette Cooper made representations about the negative economic fallout if Swift cancelled the London tour. Sue Gray, the now-former chief of staff of Starmer, was involved in the preparations, and Swift's mother Andrea personally coordinated the security details provided to her, claimed the reports.

As the controversy mounted, a spokersperson for Starmer, while not denying that his office may have had 'conversation and dialogue' with Swift's team, characterised it as 'completely routine'.

Starmer's appetite for 'freebies' is becoming a political liability for Labour

As the controversies mounted over Starmer accepting gifts, donations and freebies, the UK PM repaid £598 for two tickets to Swift’s Wembley concert, which had earlier been paid for by the Football Association that also owns the stadium.

Oddly enough, records showed that Starmer did not attend the concert, but his wife did.

Also read: British PM Keir Starmer's wife attended two Taylor Swift concerts without paying a penny

For a month now, Starmer and other senior Labour leaders have been accused of accepting lavish gifts and hospitality. The freebies declared by the Starmer government are worth more than 100,000 pounds and include tickets worth nearly 700 pounds for the Coldplay concert in Manchester.

Watch: UK PM Keir Starmer Repays More Than £6,000 In Gifts After Donations Row × The Guardian reported on Tuesday (Oct 15) citing No 10, Downing Street sources that Starmer indeed met Swift at the backstage of a concert, a day after his government decided to grant her a so-called 'blue light' police escort. Also read: British PM Keir Starmer's latest gaffe, calls for 'return of sausages' from Hamas captivity - WATCH But the sources who spoke to The Guardian said Starmer did not discuss the police motorcade convoy that had been given to Swift and her entourage. Starmer's appetite for 'freebies' is becoming a political liability for Labour As the controversies mounted over Starmer accepting gifts, donations and freebies, the UK PM repaid £598 for two tickets to Swift’s Wembley concert, which had earlier been paid for by the Football Association that also owns the stadium. Oddly enough, records showed that Starmer did not attend the concert, but his wife did. Also read: British PM Keir Starmer's wife attended two Taylor Swift concerts without paying a penny For a month now, Starmer and other senior Labour leaders have been accused of accepting lavish gifts and hospitality. The freebies declared by the Starmer government are worth more than 100,000 pounds and include tickets worth nearly 700 pounds for the Coldplay concert in Manchester. The freebie culture, however, is nothing new in British politics. The previous Tory regime had been accused of taking gifts worth hundreds of thousands of pounds, and giving Covid pandemic-related contracts to Conservative cronies and friends.
Taylor Swift has threatened legal action against a man who has been tracking her private jet travels. Calling it a “stalking and harassing behaviour”, Taylor’s lawyer Katie Wright Morrone sent a cease-and-desist letter to Jack Sweeney, a college student, who runs a social media account that tracks Taylor’s private jet routes. This was in line with the singer’s COT footprint.

It was the In Touch magazine which first published about Jack Sweeney.

Taylor Swift will take action if Jack doesn't stop, says her letter

Jack's family have now come forward, sharing the letter that Taylor’s team had sent them. It was published in The Washington Post. In the letter, Taylor's legal team says that they would “have no choice but to pursue any and all legal remedies” if he didn’t stop his “stalking and harassing behaviour.”

The letter also said that Taylor was more worried about her safety due to the tracking. The legal team claimed that the social media posts were causing “direct and irreparable harm, as well as emotional and physical distress,” and increased the singer’s “constant state of fear for her personal safety.”

Taylor's team also claimed that there was “no legitimate interest in or public need for this information, other than to stalk, harass, and exert dominion and control”.

Jack Sweeney, in response, released his own letter via The Daily Mail. "I think it’s important to note that nowhere do I intend for harm. I actually think Swift has some good songs. I believe in transparency and public information. Also important to note that this letter came days after headlines about her jet use caused bad headlines for her about carbon emissions. I think the people are interested and that [Swift] should have a decent expectation that your jet will be tracked whether or not I do it as after all it is public information," he said.

Jack is banned on X for tracking Elon Musk's travels

British Prime Minister Keir Starmer's wife Victoria accepted two free tickets worth hundreds of pounds to see pop star Taylor Swift this summer, a report in the Telegraph has claimed.

The news comes a couple of days after 'Wardrobegate' where Sir Keir was accused of breaching parliamentary rules by not declaring a wealthy businessman and donor buying high-end clothes for the Labour leader's wife.

Lady Starmer attended one of the singer's concerts at Wembley Stadium on June 21, alongside the British PM. However, it has now been revealed that she attended another of the star’s gigs at the same venue on Aug 15, this time without Sir Keir.

10, Downing Street has claimed that Lady Starmer's second ticket had been declared but as of the last update, it had not yet appeared on her husband's register of interest.

Notably, the British MPs are required to declare gifts and donations to the parliamentary authorities within 28 days of receiving them.

Apart from her, several high-profile Labour leaders also attended the second gig, including Health Secretary Wes Streeting, Education Secretary Bridget Phillipson and Culture Secretary Lisa Nandy.
