Bratych, as per the Swedish media report, runs several strip clubs in southern Sweden and submitted the application to become a member of the National Sports Confederation and told the local media that they have an organisation number and that sex is a sport like any other.&nbsp;

However, in a press release months later, the National Sports Confederation said that while the application from the Swedish Sex Federation was submitted on time, it was “incomplete".&nbsp;Additionally, at the time, some four other confederations had also been rejected.&nbsp;

The reported championship was to take place under the guidance of the Swedish Sex Federation and go on for six weeks, with participants engaging in sexual activities under 16 disciplines, including seduction, oral sex, penetration, and more, as per media reports.&nbsp;

The European Sex Championship was reported to begin on June 8 and&nbsp;go on for six weeks where participants were to engage in sexual activities for 45 minutes to an&nbsp;hour each day with their matches and/or activities. However, some reports also claimed that the competitions could go on for as long as six hours a day.&nbsp;

Reportedly, the championship was to witness the participation of 20 people from different countries. A panel of three judges as well as audience ratings were to decide the winner.&nbsp;

As per earlier reports, the competition was touted to have 16 disciplines, including&nbsp;oral sex, seduction, penetration, endurance, number of orgasms, knowledge about sex, chemistry and communication between the couple, appearance, and so on.&nbsp;

The participants were supposedly expected to be well-versed in the Sanskrit scripture on sex and eroticism, Kamasutra, and its application was supposed to fetch&nbsp;them&nbsp;extra points.&nbsp;&nbsp;

<h2>What do we need to know about the cells studied?</h2>

The researchers found the molecular mechanism in apoptosis where cells are no longer needed to undergo self-destruction by activating the so-called “death programme”. Apoptosis is crucial for human life and also plays an important role in biological processes like immune system regulation.&nbsp;

It also helps eliminate potentially harmful or cancerous cells from the body while its disruption can cause cancerous cells to grow and reject treatments. Typically, apoptosis in healthy cells is regulated by two proteins, Bax and Bcl-2.&nbsp;

Bax is a soluble protein which is responsible for getting rid of the old or diseased cells from the body, as it creates pierces through a cell’s mitochondrial membrane to form pores which trigger the programmed cell death or apoptosis.&nbsp;

Meanwhile, Bcl-2, which is embedded within the mitochondrial membrane, can offset this process in some cases which acts to prevent untimely cell death by capturing and sequestering Bax proteins. However, in cancerous cells, Bcl-2 is overproduced and leads to uninhibited cell growth and where normal cells stop dividing, cancer cells can keep on proliferating forming a growing tumour.&nbsp;

<h2>What did the scientists find?</h2>

For the first time, the researchers have found evidence of the involvement of mitochondrial lipids in the cell-death process, through a technique known as neutron reflectometry. It enabled scientists to study in real time the way that the Bax interacts with lipids present in the mitochondrial membrane during the initial stages of apoptosis.

“As far as we can tell, the mechanism by which Bax initiates cell death is previously unseen. Once we know more about the interplay between Bax and Bcl-2 and how it relates to this mechanism, we’ll have a more complete picture of a process that is fundamental to human life,” said Dr Clifton, as quoted by the Irish Examiner.&nbsp;

The scientists found that when Bax creates pores, it extracts lipids from the mitochondrial membrane to form clusters on the mitochondrial surface and with the help of time-resolved neutron reflectometry and surface infrared spectroscopy, they were able to see that in two stages.&nbsp;

First was the fast absorption of Bax onto the mitochondrial membrane surface which was followed by a slower formation of membrane-destroying pores and Bax-lipid clusters, which occurred simultaneously.&nbsp;

Similarly, Professor Gerhard Grobner of Umea University in Sweden and co-lead of the study said, “The unique findings here will not only have a significant impact in the field of apoptosis research but will also open gateways for exploring Bax and its relatives as interesting targets in cancer therapy such as by tuning up their cell-killing potential,” as per ANI.&nbsp;

NATO chief Jens Stoltenberg on Sunday appealed to Turkey to give up its opposition to Sweden's bid to become a member of the US-led defence alliance, hoping that the accession of Stockholm would be finalised "as soon as possible". 
 
Turkey's President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has been facing pressure to give the green light to NATO membership of Sweden ahead of a summit which will be scheduled in July in the Lithuanian capital Vilnius. 
 
"Membership will make Sweden safer but also make NATO and Turkey stronger," Stoltenberg said while speaking to journalists after holding talks with President Erdogan along with Turkey's newly appointed Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan, who was earlier heading the intelligence agency in Istanbul. 
 
"I look forward to finalising Sweden's accession as soon as possible," he stated.&nbsp;

Sweden was accused by Erdogan of being a haven for "terrorists" like the members of the Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK), a group that Turkey and its Western allies have blacklisted. 
 
"Sweden has taken significant concrete steps to meet Turkey's concerns," Stoltenberg stated. 
 
"This includes amending the Swedish constitution, ending the arms embargo, and stepping up counter-terrorism operations including against the PKK. Sweden has fulfilled its obligations," he added. 
 
Swedish Foreign Minister Tobias Billstrom also stated that Stockholm had fulfilled "all the commitments" to join NATO and appealed to Hungary and Turkey to permit his country into the alliance. 
 
Ankara has been displeased with anti-Erdogan and anti-Turkey protests in Stockholm.

According to a report by the news agency Reuters, the ministers are expected to discuss the ongoing situation in Ukraine, which has been combating the Russian invasion since February last year.

“NATO is more energised and more united than it’s been in decades. It’s now even stronger with the accession of our newest ally, Finland – and soon Sweden – to the alliance, as soon as possible. It will happen. I promise you,” the US president said.

His remarks come just days after US Secretary of Stater Antony Blinken urged Turkey to approve Sweden’s bid.

“From the perspective of the United States, the time is now to finalise Sweden’s accession,” Blinken told reporters&nbsp;in the northern Swedish city of Lulea on Tuesday.

The top US diplomat was also hopeful that the process would be completed before a NATO summit in the Lithuanian capital Vilnius in July.

Biden had also held a telephone conversation with Recep Tayyip Erdogan, ostensibly to congratulate him for his recent re-election as Turkish president. Sweden's membership of NATO also came up during the call, according to reports.

According to the TV4 report, the four victims were high school students aged 15 out of which three were stabbed in the upper body and were taken to the hospital.&nbsp;

The Swedish media later reported that the incident was a knife attack. They had also initially reported that the reported attack took place at a school but the headmaster later said the students had been at a different location at the time of the incident. The alleged attack took place in the afternoon just before 1:00 pm (local time) in the area of Munktellarenan, said the media report.&nbsp;

<h2>What did the police say?</h2>

Spokesperson Dennis Strömberg Johansson, as per The Sun, said that there are several police patrols in the vicinity of Munktellarenan and barriers have been set up. "It must be an assault with at least one motive. The crime classification is attempted murder," said Johansson, as quoted by the media report.&nbsp;

Police personnel were seen in the area and the scene has since been cordoned off, reported the local media. In an update some hours later, the police said that they have arrested two young men in connection with the case.&nbsp;

"There was some kind of brawl between several people. We don't know if there are two or more gangs of people involved, but it is several persons," said the local police spokesperson, as quoted by Reuters, adding, "There is no information whatsoever that this is related to terrorism."

The incident also comes over a year after two teachers, Victoria Edstrom and Sara Book, in their 50s, were allegedly killed by an 18-year-old student armed with an axe and knives.&nbsp;

The incident took place in March 2022 at the Malmo Latin School where two employees at a secondary school in the centre of the country’s third-largest city were stabbed and later succumbed to injuries.

The perpetrator, later identified as Fabian Cederholm, was found guilty of the attack late last year. He was sentenced to life in prison, which in Sweden means a minimum of 20 to 25 years, but it could be extended.

Sweden and Finland changed their neutral stance last year after Russian invasion of Ukraine and applied to become members of NATO. However, the decision to induct a new member must be taken unanimously by existing members. Turkey allowed Finland to become NATO member in April but it is still blocking Sweden's bid.

<h2>'Sweden is ready'</h2>

US Secretary of State Antony Blinken said that that the Swedish government has already addressed Turkey's concerns.

"There is no reason for any further time. Sweden is ready now," Blinken told a news conference with Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson in the northern Swedish city of Lulea.

"We urge both Turkey and Hungary -- which also has not yet ratified -- to ratify the accession as quickly as possible," he said.

The State Department said that Blinken raised Sweden's case with Turkey in a telephone call with Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu. The issue had also come up during phone conversation between US President Joe Biden and Turkish President Erdogan. Biden had called Erdogan to congratulate him on his election victory.

Blinken said the United States wants the process to be "completed in the weeks ahead" but stopped short of saying if he was certain it would be finished by the summit.

<h2>Turkey's unhappiness</h2>

Erdogan has in past expressed his displeasure against Sweden's generous asylum policies and has accused the country of giving shelter to 'terrorists' from the Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK). The PKK is outlawed in Turkey.

The topic came to the fore as late as Monday, when the pro-Kurdish Rojava Committee of Sweden posted an anti-Erdogan video on social media. The video showed a PKK flag being projected onto the Swedish parliament.

Stoltenberg said he was in "constant contact" with Turkish authorities to try to lift the final obstacles to Sweden's accession.

Her husband is ready to provide documents and carry out the process to enter Karin's name in the population register. But he reportedly has been told that Karin will have to be physically present during the process that'll see her name in the population register again.

Britain's National Health Service (NHS) cannot transfer her to a hospital in Sweden as it won't be able to provide healthcare to her.

Labour MP Helen Hayes has described the situation as shocking. Hayes has been supporting the family since January this year.

“Karin’s accident was a terrible tragedy which is devastating for Karin and her family. She is currently trapped between two wholly incompatible and inflexible systems," said Hayes, as quoted by The Guardian.

“This impasse is compounding the family’s suffering,” she added, saying that "basic compassion from all sides" was needed to find a solution to this situation.&nbsp;

MP Hayes has reportedly written to Europe affairs minister, Leo Docherty and has urged him to explore the possibility with UK and Swedish officials.

“As this is truly an exceptional case, this will require exceptional actions by both the UK government and the Swedish government, as well as by the NHS and Swedish health professionals,” she wrote.

Karin's husband sounded despondent

“I’ve been with Karin a long time and been to Sweden many times and I was under the impression that Sweden was a compassionate Western liberal democracy,” he said, as quoted by The Guardian.

“I am very down about this. I feel this is shameful. Karin is very Swedish and, in many ways, she really loves her country and loves to go back and spend summers there. We had been making plans to retire there in the next year or so and the fact that they’ve so severely let her down is quite awful,” he added.

A wheelchair user went through extreme "humiliation" after he was made to crawl down a Ryanair flight because of an “unacceptable” delay in assistance.

The 37-year-old victim, Adrian Keogh, said that he wants the airlines and airports to make more arrangements for people with disabilities after he went through the embarrassing ordeal at Landvetter Airport in Sweden on Saturday.

Keogh, who is from Wicklow in Ireland, said that he had done the booking beforehand to ensure he received the kind of support he needed during flying.&nbsp;

However, when the flight landed, Keogh was told that the lift required to bring him down the flight in his wheelchair would take at least an hour to arrive. He stated that he decided to crawl off the plane because he was experiencing pain and was not willing to wait until midnight to leave.

Speaking to The Independent, Keogh said, “It was very destroying, to be honest going through that because all anyone wants is to be treated equally. For someone to say you have to be an hour waiting on the plane for no fault of my own is totally ridiculous."&nbsp;

“A person in a wheelchair has different issues, I have spinal injuries personally myself, some people have other issues but with any disability, we just want to be treated equally," he added.&nbsp;

Keogh added that he began to “bum shuffle” down the steps.

“My brother wanted to lift me down but I decided not to because it’s too unsafe in case we fell. He was at the bottom of the steps making sure my wheelchair was ready," he said,&nbsp;

He further took to social media to share his harrowing experience.&nbsp;

In his Instagram post, Keogh shared images in which he was seen crawling down the metal stairs in a seated position.

The post read, “Please excuse the bad picture but this is a photo of myself having to crawl off a Ryanair flight which landed in Landvetter Airport tonight at 11 pm. I am as some may know a full-time wheelchair user and paid extra for special assistance to be lifted off the plane down to my wheelchair."

“It's unacceptable to expect me to crawl down the steep metal steps, but on arrival, I was informed that it would be at least one hour before they would have the lift available to help me off the plane so what option had I but to crawl off the plane," he added. &nbsp;

Commenting on Keogh's post, Landvetter Airport apologised for the delay in assisting and said that delay happened because of another medical emergency.

The airport stated, “Dear Sir, we are sorry for your experience. Due to some delays last night, there were more planes landing around the same time as your flight. With several booked assistants requirements, including yours, and a medical emergency simultaneously, caused a pushed [sic] forward.”

In a statement to The Independent, the airport further stated, “We deeply regret Mr Keogh’s experience at Göteborg Landvetter Airport on Saturday.

“Due to several unforeseen events, the assistance service at the airport was affected by longer waiting times and not up to our usual standard of service, although airport procedures were followed. As a consequence, the assistance service was delayed however by no means ‘forgotten’," it added.&nbsp;

Meanwhile, a Ryanair spokesperson said, “Special assistance at Landvetter Airport is managed by a third-party provider - not Ryanair. We regret that Landvetter Airport failed to provide Special Assistance to this passenger upon arrival at Landvetter on April 29 and we are working with Landvetter Airport to ensure this does not recur.”

Norway criticised Sweden for not notifying the country before launching its research rockets after one of them malfunctioned and landed in the territory of its neighbouring country. &nbsp;

Sweden launched the rocket on Monday at 07:20 local time (05:20 GMT) from the Esrange Space Centre, before it fell into a Norwegian mountain range.&nbsp;

The centre's owner Swedish Space Corporation (SSC), which has also been running it, issued an apology and said that it is investigating the case.&nbsp;

However, Sweden still faced criticism from Norway for not formally notifying the nation regarding the launch.&nbsp;

As per the SSC, the rocket initially touched an altitude of 250km (155 miles) and then fell into zero gravity, where experiments were being conducted by them.&nbsp;

The rocket then made a landing 40km northwest of the landing site in Malselv municipality which is located in the north of Norway, around 10km from the closest inhabited area.&nbsp;

“It landed in the mountains at 1,000 metres altitude, and 10km from the closest settlement,” said Philip Ohlsson, head of communications at SSC.&nbsp;

"There are routines in place when things go wrong and we inform both Swedish and Norwegian governments, and other actors," he added.&nbsp;

No one suffered any injuries and no damage to material was reported.&nbsp;

The scientific instrument, &nbsp;known as the payload, was onboard the rocket and after its failed landing was recovered in "good condition" and was sent back to Esrange through a helicopter, as per the SSC.

"This is a deviation that we take seriously," stated Marko Kohberg from the Esrange Space Centre.

"It is still too early to speculate about the cause, and we await more information from the current investigation," he added.&nbsp;

The SCC stated that, after the incident, they were shortly contacted by the Norwegian and Swedish authorities "according to routine".

However, the foreign ministry of Norway has stated that they were not properly informed about either the landing of the rocket or its payload's recovery and that any unauthorised activity which takes place within its borders is taken seriously by them.

“The crash of a rocket like this is a very serious incident that can cause serious damage,” the foreign ministry said.&nbsp;

"When such a border violation occurs, it is crucial that those responsible immediately inform the relevant Norwegian authorities through the proper channels," it stated.&nbsp;

The rocket, which is known as Texus-58, is part of the European programme which was commissioned by the European Space Agency.
