The Trump administration on Monday has said that it will resume collecting defaulted student loans stating that "there will not be any mass loan forgiveness." It&rsquo;s expected to affect the more than 5 million borrowers who are in default. The Department of Education stated in a release that it&nbsp;has not collected on defaulted loans since March 2020. The Education Department urged student borrowers in default to contact the student aid office&rsquo;s Default Resolution Group and make a monthly payment, enroll in an income-driven repayment plan, or sign up for loan rehabilitation.
"American taxpayers will no longer be forced to serve as collateral for irresponsible student loan policies," said US Secretary of Education Linda McMahon in a statement.
The Education Department in its release also said, "The previous Administration failed to process applications for borrowers who applied for income-driven repayment and continued to push misguided &ldquo;on-ramps&rdquo; and illegal loan forgiveness schemes to win points with borrowers and mask rising delinquency and default rates."

As part of its move to resume collection of these debts, the government has restarted the Treasury Offset Program, which collects debts by garnishing federal and state payments, such as tax returns or social security benefits.
"Going forward, the Department of Education, in conjunction with the Department of Treasury, will shepherd the student loan program responsibly and according to the law, which means helping borrowers return to repayment&mdash;both for the sake of their own financial health and our nation&rsquo;s economic outlook," it added.

Federal student loans go into default after 270 days without payment. When a student loan goes in default, it is reflected on the credit report, as per CNN. A student can check on the status of loan by reaching out to student loan servicer or visiting the Federal Student Aid website for more information.

More than 40&nbsp;schools in India's national capital Delhi received bomb threats through e-mails on Monday morning (Dec 9). The&nbsp;schools which received the bomb threat included Delhi Public School located in RK Puram and GD Goenka School&nbsp;in Paschim Vihar in the early morning hours, as per news agency ANI.&nbsp;

According to Delhi Police, the email read,&nbsp;"I planted multiple bombs inside (school) buildings. The bombs are small and hidden very well. It will not cause much damage to the building, but many people will be injured when the bombs detonate. If I do not receive $30,000 I will detonate the bombs."

The email was sent to school authorities on Sunday night (Dec 8) at 11:38 pm local time.

The IP address of the sender is being investigated by the police.

The threats were revealed at peak hour in schools when buses were arriving, children were being dropped off by their parents and staff busy preparing for the morning assembly.

<h2>Hoax bomb threats across country&nbsp;</h2>

Bomb threats have been taking place in education institutions and airlines through much of this year in India, most of which turned out to be hoaxes.

In October, an explosion took place outside the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) school in the Prashant Vihar area of Rohini in Delhi. The wall of the school, vehicles and nearby shops were damaged.

On October 21, a bomb blast threat was sent to all CRPF schools through an email.

On November 19, the Delhi High Court asked the state government and Delhi police to create a comprehensive action plan which included an extensive Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) for dealing with bomb threats as well as other such emergencies.

An eight-week deadline was set by the court for the completion of the plan. In the SOP, the officials were instructed to define the roles and responsibilities of the stakeholders which included police, municipal authorities, school administration and other law enforcement agencies.&nbsp;

More than 40 schools in Indian capital Delhi receive bomb threats, children sent back

Ohio Governor and Republican leader&nbsp;Mike DeWine on Wednesday (November 27) signed a bill which restricts&nbsp;transgender students from going into multi-person bathrooms which match their gender identities.

The bill was signed under the "Protect All Students Act" in which Ohio K-12 public and private schools, colleges and universities are required to designate separate locker rooms, accommodations and bathrooms "for the exclusive use" of males and females, on the basis of their gender which was assigned to them at the time of their birth, in buildings of school and other facilities which are used to conducting school-sponsored events.

“It revolves around safety, security, and, I think, common sense. It protects our children and grandchildren in private spaces where they are most vulnerable,” argued Republican Ohio state Sen. Jerry Cirino, who had sponsored the bill.

Some people have been exempted from the new instructions, which includes people who assist children or someone with disability and school employees.&nbsp;

The bill also included exemptions in case of emergency situations. Schools are free to offer single-use and family bathrooms to pupils.

The law will be brought into effect in the next 90 days, but&nbsp;how the implementation of the law will take place remains unclear because no enforcement mechanism has been mentioned in the bill.
