The State headquarters of the Communist Party of India (<a href="https://www.wionews.com/india-news/issued-advisories-to-state-uts-to-take-measures-to-curb-mob-lynching-centre-informs-lok-sabha-263218">CPI</a>) situated at Bengaluru's Vaiyyalikaval area was attacked by a group of unidentified men in the early hours of Wednesday.

The incident occurred at around 1 AM&nbsp;when the unidentified men entered the office premises and set ablaze as many as six vehicles belonging to the staff, said CPI Karnataka treasurer Vijay Bhaskar.

"The miscreants also set on fire the documents kept in the hall. The fire was later doused," he said, adding that police have initiated an investigation into the matter.

Bhaskar alleged that the attack was carried out by the <a href="https://www.wionews.com/india-news/cab-to-function-like-a-one-time-drive-says-top-rss-functionary-267715">RSS</a>. "The RSS goons have carried out this attack. Through such methods, the RSS thinks they can silence our voices. We will continue to raise our voice against the Citizenship Amendment Act," he said.

Yediyurappa's political career has braved quite a few storms - right from never completing a full term as CM despite swearing-in four&nbsp;times, to being jailed on corruption charges, to walking out and forming his own party.&nbsp;

So while Yediyurappa is elated with the victory, is the BJP really happy with the southern power centre getting stronger? Highly unlikely. Senior BJP leaders, who have been party loyalists have expressed displeasure over the involvement of Yediyurappa's son Vijayendra in the functioning of the government.

The party high command was reportedly upset with the Chief Minister after an activist highlighted the rampant involvement of Vijayendra in bureaucratic transfers in the state. Now with the Vijayendra largely being credited for the party's first victory in the Vokkaliga belt of Mandya, the reins have further loosened.&nbsp;

Added to that there is now the issue of defectors being inducted into the 34-member cabinet that already has 18 members. With Yediyurappa saying he sees no problems in all 11 defectors, who won the elections, getting cabinet berths, the loyalists are further perturbed.

The victory has also strengthened the bargaining power of the ageing leader, who plans to finalise the cabinet allotments with the high command in the coming few days. With age not on his side, Yediyurappa is evidently grooming his son to take over the party after proving his ability to consolidate the crucial Lingayat votes. Can other powerful camps within the BJP fight the Yediyurappa power, when he has successfully secured people's mandate?&nbsp;

Let's now turn our eyes to the second biggest party in the house. Congress has shrunk from 78 seats in 2018 to 68 now. The one state that was offering hope to the beaten-down party in 2018, has fallen as well. Siddaramaiah, the Leader of Opposition and Legislature Party Chief has resigned from the position. Dinesh Gundurao, KPCC President, has also taken responsibility for the sad showing and has tendered his resignation. Who will fill Congress' leadership vacuum now?

DK Shivakumar has often positioned himself as the next leader of the Karnataka Congress, but with the ED baggage and multiple failures in the Vokkaliga strong belt, it is unlikely the party will let him take the lead. ''Congress needs an alternative narrative. They left it to Siddaramaiah this time too, and he was functioning with a rather old-style narrative. He did get what he wanted in the two constituencies that they won. He showed his dominance in the Kuruba community, but that is not enough to win a state election'', says Narendar Pani, a political analyst.&nbsp;

Then there is the biggest loser of the lot - Janata Dal (Secular). It was only a few months back that HD Kumaraswamy of the JD(S) held the position of the Chief Minister. Today the party has not won a single seat in the by-poll and has also conceded seats to the BJP in its backyard, Mandya.

''It is clear that they are out of touch even with the Vokkaliga community. They are still functioning in the old farmer-based approach. But many in Mandya are moving out of agriculture'', says Pani. The apex court verdict came on 65 petitions - including 56 review petitions, four fresh writ petitions, and five transfer pleas. The petitions challenged the authority of the court to intervene in a belief of the people. 
 
They argued that the <a href="https://www.wionews.com/india-news/kerala-devotees-pay-obeisance-at-sabarimala-temple-262681">Sabarimala deity</a> is a "Brahmachari" (celibate) and "centuries-old beliefs" should not be disturbed by the entry of menstruating women worshippers.

Make new law regarding entry of women into Sabarimala temple: Supreme Court to Kerala government

A group of ten women who attempted to enter the Sabarimala temple yesterday reportedly decided against it after being acclimatised with the rituals, according to Pathanamthitta District Collector, PB Nooh.

 
"These women were with a group of pilgrims who were visiting a lot of temples in South India. After reaching here, they came to know that women are not allowed here due to temple rituals. So, they themselves decided to go back," Nooh told ANI.

The ten women were aged between 10-50 and returned from the Pamba base camp which is 6 kilometres downhill from the temple.&nbsp;

Earlier, the Kerala government announced that it would not provide special security to any women visiting the temple.

The Sabarimala temple opened for the annual Mandala Pooja on Saturday, witnessing devotees coming in huge numbers. However, there was a consensus amongst the devotees that menstruating women should not be allowed to enter the premises.&nbsp; 
 
Nooh said that all basic necessities such as toilets, water kiosks, and medical emergency centres are in place for the pilgrims. 
 
"All basic arrangements are in place. We have deployed over 800 medical staff and established 16 medical emergency centres. Around 2,400 toilets and more than 250 water kiosks are ready. We have more than 1,000 sanitation workers deployed to ensure a clean atmosphere," he said.

The shrine was reopened days after a five-judge bench of the Supreme Court received petitions seeking review of its order that allowed the entry of women into the shrine. These petitions were passed on to a larger seven-judge bench by a majority ruling of 3:2.&nbsp;

In September last year, the Supreme Court had lifted the traditional ban on the entry of women in their menstrual age (10-50-years-old).

While interacting with media General Officer Commanding-in-Chief (Southern Command) Lt Gen SK Saini said that We have got many inputs that there may be a terrorist attack in the southern part of India and peninsular India. There have been some abandoned boats also which have been recovered in the area of Sir Creek.

He said the Army has undertaken "measures for capacity building and capability development" due to heightened threat in Sir creek. &nbsp;&nbsp;

"We have undertaken measures for capacity building and capability development in the area of Sir Creek keeping in mind the enhanced threat," he said, adding the precautions were being taken to ensure that inimical elements or terrorists do not succeed in their designs.

The remarks came a fortnight after government sources told ANI that Pakistan had deployed SSG commandos along Sir Creek in Gujarat to carry out anti-India activities in the region.

Pakistan has made irresponsible and provocative statements after government repealed Article 370, which gave special status to Jammu and Kashmir last month. India has said it was an internal matter.

This, when Kamal was dissed for not mentioning anything about the burning issue of rising threats against the release of Kaala in Karnataka.

On Tuesday, Kamal met the newly-appointed Karnataka Chief Minister Kumaraswamy in Bengaluru to discuss several issues concerning the ties between Tamil Nadu and Karnataka. The Cauvery water-sharing issue was top on the agenda.

Post their closed-door meeting, both the CM and Kamal displayed a certain rapport at the media briefing. But when they were questioned on Kaala and debate around its release, both dismissed it. While Kumaraswamy claimed, “It was a different issue and not necessary”, Kamal affirmed with, “Not a word was spoken about that.”

“There are film chambers and business community who will take care of it (Kaala issue). And we (Kumaraswamy and Kamal) will see that good relationship exists between both the states,” he said.

He further added, “This is more important than movies if you ask me.”

This was not taken lightly by social media fans as Kamal’s statement sounded ironic to people who remembered the time when Rajinikanth championed Kamal when the latter’s film Vishwaroopam was met with the same response by activists groups.&nbsp;

The findings of the survey also noted that 89.5 per cent of adults in the State noticed that the anti-tobacco campaign helped in reducing the usage of tobacco.

Maryam Nawaz, the daughter of Nawaz Sharif, said that the chief justice would be responsible if any harm was caused to her father.

Wind speeds topped 300 km per hour (186 mph) in an Indian &quot;super-cyclone&quot; that killed 10,000 people in 1999, while a&nbsp;cyclone&nbsp;packing speeds of more than 200 kph (124 mph) lashed the east coast in 2013.

The Tamil Nadu government had declared a&nbsp;holiday for educational institutions in Chennai, Kancheepuram and Tiruvallur, besides coastal taluks of Villupuram.

At least twenty deer were found dead in a field in India&#39;s southern Telangana state today. 
 
The matter came to light when locals in Mahabubnagar district who came across the dead deer reported it to the authorities. 
 
Residents believe the animals died after consuming pesticide-laced fruit lying on the ground. 
 
&quot;Since sometime, strong winds have been blowing in this region, due to which fruit have been falling from trees. The deer must have consumed those. Probably because of pesticides and other chemicals in them, about 20-25 deer died,&quot; said Neeraj, a local. 
 
However, some claimed it is possible the deer consumed harmful substances at another place and died by the time they reached the field. 
 
&quot;About 20-25 deer have been found dead. Deer can walk up to five kilometers after eating food, so there is a chance that they consumed pesticides in some other field,&quot; said a farmer, Ramesh. 
 
Cases of wild animals straying into human settlements are not uncommon in India. More often than not, they are killed either accidentally or by people.

Indian state imposes 'fat tax' on junk food

A turtle in a zoo in India&#39;s southern Tamil Nadu state has been fitted with wheels after it lost one of its front legs in a suspected predator attack. 
 
The two-year old female star turtle, an endangered species, was seriously injured and faced difficulty moving around. It had even stopped consuming food. 
 
The veterinary doctors at the zoo then thought of the novel idea of fitting wheels on her. 
 
They made it a point to use lightweight material, including wheels used for rolling windows and a light steel rod, in order to make movement easy for the turtle. 
 
&quot;We had a small plan of a prosthetic involvement already,&quot; Dr. Boon Allwin said on Thursday.&nbsp;&quot;So what we did was we used special window wheels with a stainless steel grid. We pasted the entire lot on the vental surface of the tortoise using an epoxy non-irritant compo. So the moment it was pasted and the moment the surgery was done the next second the tortoise started walking. It has been doing very good,&quot; 
 
Allwin added that an upgradation of the wheels was on the cards. 
 
The turtle can now be seen freewheeling around and is probably the fastest of all in its enclosure.
