AS Roma's combative midfielder Daniele De Rossi will end his playing career at the club after 18 years, during which he made 615 appearances and scored 63 goals in all competitions.

The club confirmed in a statement that Roma's final game of the season - at home to Parma - would be his last for the club he joined as a teenager in 2000.

Roma added that he would continue his playing career elsewhere.

"We will all shed tears when he pulls on the Giallorossi (yellow-and-red) shirt for the last time against Parma but we respect his desire to prolong his playing career - even if, at almost 36, it will be away from Rome," said club president James Pallotta.

"I'd like to thank Daniele for his incredible dedication to this club and ensure him that our doors will remain open for him to return to the club in a new role whenever he wants",&nbsp;Pallotta said.

He won two Coppa Italia titles with Roma in 2007 and 2008 although the nearest he came to a <a href="https://www.google.com/url?client=internal-uds-cse&amp;cx=006054055338965708568:09spwrlibei&amp;q=https://www.wionews.com/sports/juventus-win-eighth-consecutive-serie-a-title-212170&amp;sa=U&amp;ved=2ahUKEwiR27yz5priAhUe4XMBHX_BBLwQFjAAegQIARAC&amp;usg=AOvVaw1zzbmeraLvzUc8Y7RyURAG">Serie A title</a> was in 2010 when Roma led the table with four games to go but were overhauled by <a href="https://www.google.com/url?client=internal-uds-cse&amp;cx=006054055338965708568:09spwrlibei&amp;q=https://www.wionews.com/sports/jurgen-klopps-mentality-behind-liverpools-historic-comeback-says-jose-mourinho-216931&amp;sa=U&amp;ved=2ahUKEwjIs5La5priAhW0heYKHTjYCBQQFjAAegQIABAC&amp;usg=AOvVaw1GSVv3t4xeqvECI08q3CIP">Jose Mourinho's</a> Inter Milan.

De Rossi also played 117 games for Italy, making him their fourth most-capped player, and came on as a second-half substitute in the 2006 World Cup final where they beat France on penalties after a 1-1 draw.

De Rossi missed most of that tournament, however, as he was given a four-match suspension for elbowing an opponent in their opening game against the United States.

He was also sent off nine times playing for AS Roma although there is far more to De Rossi than aggression, as he is famous for his vision, passing ability and eye for goal.

A graduate of the club's academy and a Roma supporter during his childhood, he made his debut in the 2001-02 season.

"For 18 years, Daniele has been the beating heart of AS Roma's team," added Pallotta.

AS Roma's midfielder Daniele De Rossi to leave the club after 18 years

Godin, 33, has played 387 times for Atletico since joining from Villarreal in 2010, scoring 27 goals - including famously clinching the club's first La Liga title in 18 years with a header in a 1-1 draw at Barcelona in 2014.

Godin did not say where he is going, but numerous Spanish media have reported that he is on his way to Italian Serie A club Inter Milan.

"I'm a little nervous, much more than I am before a game, but I have called everyone here to inform you that these are my final days at the club," Godin said.

Atletico president Enrique Cerezo added,&nbsp;"We are here to say goodbye to an Atletico legend. You have been a vital part of this great era for the club, with your efforts and your goals, like the one which gave us the title at the Nou Camp.

"You have fought in a thousand battles and defended the club's shirt in every game and you have worn the captain's armband. Wherever you end up, Atletico wishes you a lot of luck. Atletico is your family, the Wanda Metropolitano is your home," Cerezo said.

In addition to the La Liga triumph, Godin won two Europa League titles, one Copa del Rey, one Spanish Super Cup and three UEFA Super Cups with Atletico as well as reaching the 2014 and 2016 Champions League finals, only to lose both times to Real.

Godin's departure will leave another hole in Atletico's defence, with France international Lucas Hernandez already agreeing to join Bayern Munich in June after they paid his 80 million euro release clause.

From Ronaldo's effect to Allegri's game style, here are things that helped Juventus win eighth straight Serie A crown

Juventus clinched their eighth consecutive Serie A title on Saturday with a come-from-behind 2-1 win over Fiorentina.

Alex Sandro's diving header on 37 minutes and an own goal from Fiorentina defender German Pezzella after a Cristiano Ronaldo cross in the 53rd minute sealed a 35th Scudetto.

Serbian defender Nikola Milenkovic had put Fiorentina ahead after less than six minutes.

Bolstered by five-time Ballon d'Or winner Ronaldo, Juventus dominated the domestic league this season and are 20 points clear of nearest rivals Napoli with just five games to play.

Massimiliano Allegri's side have lost only two matches, against Genoa and SPAL, with 28 wins and three draws.

Their eight straight title sees Juventus overtake French club Lyon for the record of consecutive victories in the top five European leagues.

Juventus also equalled the record for the earliest the Italian title has been won, with five games to spare, achieved by&nbsp;Torino in 1948, Fiorentina in 1956 and Inter Milan in 2007.

Allegri's side had needed just one more point to seal victory after their shock Champions League exit at the Juventus Stadium to Ajax last Tuesday.

Juventus have been hit hard by injuries with defender Giorgio Chiellini out along with Sami Khedira, Mario Mandzukic, Paulo Dybala and Douglas Costa.

Ronaldo threatened early, but defender Milenkovic gave Fiorentina hope of a first win in eight trips to the Allianz Stadium.

Giovanni Simeone had the ball in the back of the net on 25 minutes but the goal was ruled offside, before Sandro got his head to Miralem Pjanic's corner to pull the teams level before the break.

Ronaldo threatened after the break, crossing for Federico Bernardeschi, but Pezzella clumsily turned into his own net.

Allegri brought on teenage star Moise Kean in place of Bernardeschi on 74 minutes, but the 19-year-old could not add to his six goals scored in his previous six appearances.

Ronaldo will have to settle for a Serie A title in his first season in Italy after missing out on a sixth Champions League crown.

It was the 34-year-old's sixth domestic league title, having won three with Manchester United and two with Real Madrid.

The Portuguese now has 28 trophies in total, including the Euro 2016 title with Portugal.

Juventus also remain on track to match the record 102 points achieved under Antonio Conte in 2014.

Juventus win eighth consecutive Serie A title

Cristiano Ronaldo is "1,000 per cent" certain to remain at Juventus, he said after they <a href="https://www.wionews.com/sports/juventus-win-eighth-consecutive-serie-a-title-212170">clinched the Serie A title on Saturday with a 2-1 win over Fiorentina.</a>

"I'm really happy to have won the Italian title in my first season here. It has been a great season for this Juventus, we also won the Italian Supercup," said the Portuguese forward, who has scored 19 league goals.

"We didn't do so well in the Champions League but there is always next year," he added. "I will stay, 1,000 per cent."

Defender Leonardo Bonucci, meanwhile, explained how Juventus had managed to bounce back from their shock Champions League quarter-final exit against Ajax on Tuesday when they lost 2-1 at home and went out 3-2 on aggregate.

"I'm sorry about the Champions but we transformed the disappointment into anger and energy. This Scudetto, the eighth in a row, is something unique," he said. "We really want to celebrate, this success makes the season's sacrifice all worth it.

Coach Massimiliano Allegri said winning with five games to spare was a "testimony to our great season".

"We put aside the elimination that brought us disappointment and bitterness. Fortunately, we had this match that allowed us to close the championship," said the 51-year-old who has been in charge for the last five campaigns.

Allegri said his team, who fell behind after six minutes, needed to deal better with setbacks.

"We came from Tuesday's disappointment, then entered the field and conceded a goal," he said. "We have to work on dealing with the unexpected, on Tuesday we suffered four devastating counter-attacks, today we did the same after we conceded the goal."

He said injuries had prevented Juventus from producing better performances.

"In general, during the season, we were unable to find continuity," he said. "There were constant new injuries and recurring fitness problems, so at times I had only 14 players to train with. Despite it all, we won by a big advantage.”

Cristiano Ronaldo is '1,000 percent certain' to stay at Juventus

Serie A's disciplinary tribunal says will not take any action against two AC Milan players who paraded an opponent's shirt in front of their fans "like a scalp" following the 1-0 win over Lazio on Saturday.

Tiemoue Bakayoko exchanged his jersey with Lazio defender Francesco Acerbi at the end of the game but then, with teammate Franck Kessie, waved it triumphantly in front of Milan fans in the Curva Sud in a gesture which generated widespread criticism.

The incident happened as scuffles broke out among players following the match which was a key battle in the race for Champions League qualification.

Gabriele Gravina, the head of the Italian soccer federation (FIGC) was among those who had called for disciplinary action.

"When Acerbi handed over his to the Milan players and shook their hands, he proved he wanted to close any controversy. Exhibiting the same shirt almost like a scalp in front of the crowd was an ugly reaction that we ought to prevent happening again," he said on Monday.

However, the tribunal said on Tuesday that "nothing was reported by the match delegate" and added that it was not a case where evidence from television images could be used. "Therefore, the tribunal is not competent to decide on what happened," it said in a statement.

Kessie, however, was among six players fined 10,000 euros ($11,299) for their part in the trouble.

The others were Andrea Bertolacci and Mateo Musacchio of Milan and Lazio trio Lucas Leiva, Luiz Felipe and Patricio Gabarron.

Bakayoko later phoned Acerbi to apologise and the Lazio defender appeared to accept, when he tweeted: "Enough controversy, we'll see each other on the pitch."

Six fined after Milan-Lazio brawl, no action in shirt-swapping row

Juventus missed the chance to clinch an eighth consecutive Serie A title on Saturday as SPAL stunned them by coming from behind to win 2-1 at the Stadio Paolo Mazza, their first victory over Juve in 62 years.

Massimiliano Allegri’s side, already on 84 points, knew a draw would be enough to wrap up the championship with six rounds remaining and took the lead in the first half through Moise Kean.

However, the home side fought back after the break as goals from Kevin Bonifazi and Sergio Floccari secured their first win against the Italian champions since February 1957.

The Turin club can still be named champions this weekend if second-placed Napoli fail to win away to rock-bottom Chievo on Sunday.

Allegri stood by his decision to pick a heavily rotated side, with an eye towards Tuesday's Champions League quarter-final second leg against Ajax in Turin, after the first leg ended 1-1.

“It would’ve been easy to field the first choice XI today and get the Scudetto but we’ve had such a remarkable run of results this season that it was more important to focus on the Champions League game coming up," he told Sky Italia.

“The key to Juventus winning the Scudetto is that we do well in the head-to-head clashes but above all bring home the points everywhere else.

"You usually win the Scudetto with 84-86 points but last term Napoli had 91 –- a club record –- and still finished second, so our performance that season was extraordinary."

It was Juventus’s second defeat of the league season and they remain 20 points clear of Napoli, while SPAL have risen to 13th place on 35 points, seven clear of the relegation zone.

Andrea Barzagli and Juan Cuadrado returned for Juve after injury lay-offs, while 17-year-old defender Paolo Gozzi and midfielder Grigoris Kastanos made their Serie A debuts for the club, as did substitute Stephy Mavdidi.

“We had a lot of young players and they did well but above all the second goal showed a lack of experience,” Allegri added.

“We reacted well in the second half but couldn’t get the game back on track. Paolo Gozzi had a good game, including after Barzagli went off. Kastanos was struggling a little in the role of mezz’ala, while (Hans) Nicolussi and Mavidi did well.

“I needed to see the condition of Juan Cuadrado, who is unfortunately off the Champions League squad list, and also Dybala, whose fitness levels weren’t at their best.

"The more he plays, the better shape he gets into. He rediscovered some enthusiasm today and it wasn’t easy for him psychologically of late to have only 20 minutes or so and then get hurt again.

“At a big club, you must fight every day to earn your space in the team and I am very happy with what he did today. It’s a good sign for Tuesday, as we must be ready and prepare for the potential of extra time too."

It was 19-year-old, on-form striker Kean who caught the eye again when he put Juve in front with an instinctive finish after 29 minutes.

However, SPAL were rewarded for an impressive start to the second half when Bonifazi rose to head in his team’s equaliser from a corner.

The hosts continued to play on the front foot and were rewarded with 15 minutes remaining when Floccari raced on to a loose ball in the area and swept a finish into the corner.

It was only SPAL’s second ever win against Juventus but marked their third successive home victory after they beat Roma and Lazio.

He rediscovered some enthusiasm today and it wasn’t easy for him psychologically of late to have only 20 minutes or so and then get hurt again. “At a big club, you must fight every day to earn your space in the team and I am very happy with what he did today. It’s a good sign for Tuesday, as we must be ready and prepare for the potential of extra time too." It was 19-year-old, on-form striker Kean who caught the eye again when he put Juve in front with an instinctive finish after 29 minutes.

Massimiliano Allegri, the head coach of Juventus said condemned racism but said his players must respect their opponents.&nbsp;

In a media interaction, Allegri said, "Racism is never justifiable and idiots should stay away from the stadium, but regarding the attacks on Leonardo Bonucci, he expressed himself badly after the match, he was still in a competitive trance."&nbsp;

Allegri's comments came following a racist incident involving striker Moise Kean during Juventus' 2-0 win at Cagliari in Serie A on Tuesday.&nbsp;

Kean had celebrated in front of the Cagliari fans with his arms outstretched after scoring in the 85th minute, having been insulted by them for most of the match after being booked for simulation in the 20th minute.&nbsp;

Allegri said, "Every player must behave well on the pitch, whether it is (Moise) Kean or (Daniele) Rugani, they need to respect their opponents and their fans. That is the most important thing, then racism is a different thing, for one last time I repeat that racism is never justifiable, it must be punished and fought."&nbsp;

Juventus will have a first shot at clinching an eighth successive Serie A title at the weekend although they will need help from the only team to have beaten them in the league this season.&nbsp;

Second-placed Napoli's shock defeat at Empoli on Wednesday has left the Turin side a massive 18 points clear, meaning it is time to get the calculators out almost two months before the end of the season.

In one of the most lop-sided championships in history, Juventus will clinch the title if they beat AC Milan at home on Saturday and then Napoli lose at home on Sunday to Genoa, who ended Juve's hopes of an unbeaten league season three weeks ago.

That combination would leave Massimiliano Allegri's side 21 points clear with seven games each to play and a better head-to-head record over Napoli.

They would also remain on course to break their own Serie A record of 102 points set in 2013-14, the last season before Antonio Conte left and was replaced by current coach Allegri.

Helped by the signing of five times World Player of the Year Cristiano Ronaldo, Juventus have been utterly dominant this season, winning 26 of their 30 matches, drawing three and losing one.

They have the best attack and defence with 62 goals for and 19 conceded although they have been ruthless rather than sparkling.

Twelve of their wins have been by one-goal margins, nine by two goals and five by three goals and they have only once scored more than three goals in a league game.

There have been a handful of impressive comebacks and dramatic wins but mostly it has been a case of getting the job done as efficiently as possible and leaving enough energy for their main aim, which is winning the Champions League.

Ronaldo will miss the Milan game with a thigh injury and is doubtful for the Champions League quarter-final first leg away to Ajax Amsterdam on Wednesday.

However, Allegri said after the 2-0 win to Cagliari on Tuesday that their injury crisis was easing with Mario Mandzukic available and Leonardo Spinazzola, Douglas Costa and Paulo Dybala all close to returning.

The game will be a severe test for Gennaro Gattuso's AC Milan who are fourth, the lowest of the Champions League slots, but have followed a run of five league wins in a row by taking only one point out of their last three matches.

"The strength that we’ve had for three or four months was missing," said Gattuso after Tuesday's 1-1 draw at home to lowly Udinese.

"We gave the feeling of fragility. We must remain calm. We know that we’re going through a tough spell and we must get out of it."

Gattuso said his team were going through one of those phases where the ball feels heavier.

"When you win five matches but then face some difficulties, the ball starts to weigh heavily," he said. "Things that happen that should be prevented and this is the moment we’re in"

Marco Verratti scored a rare goal for Paris St Germain as they beat Nantes 3-0 at home to reach the French Cup final on Wednesday, with a fifth consecutive title in their sights.

The midfielder, who also found the net for Italy last week, opened the scoring for the Cup holders in the first half with his first PSG goal of the season.

Kylian Mbappe scored a penalty and Daniel Alves found the net with a delicate lob to wrap up victory in the closing stages.

Mbappe was denied from the spot by Nantes keeper Ciprian Tatarusanu earlier in the match before the visitors were reduced to 10 men after Kalifa Coulibaly was sent off for a second yellow card in the 71st minute.

PSG, who lost Marquinhos to a muscle injury, will face Stade Rennais, who beat Olympique Lyonnais 3-2 on Tuesday, in the April 27 showdown at the Stade de France.

The Ligue 1 leaders have not conceded a single goal on their way to the final.

With Neymar watching from the stands, Verratti unleashed a low diagonal shot from outside the box on 29 minutes to put the home side ahead.

It was his second goal in eight days after he scored in Italy's 6-0 victory over Liechtenstein in a Euro 2020 qualifier last Tuesday.

Mbappe beat Tatarusanu from the penalty spot after a Nicolas Pallois handball, but referee Francois Letexier had it retaken due to players encroaching into the box.

Tatarusanu blocked the second attempt, but he was powerless with Mbappe's penalty in the 83rd minute after Alves was brought down by Diego Carlos.

Alves wrapped up an emphatic win when he lobbed Tatarusanu from the edge of the box two minutes into added time.

The sides will meet again at the Parc des Princes in Ligue 1 in two weeks.

Napoli ripped AS Roma's defence to shreds as they handed the hosts an embarrassing 4-1 defeat at the Stadio Olimpico in Serie A on Sunday and piled on the problems for recently-appointed coach Claudio Ranieri.

Roma began the game in fifth place with a chance to move within a point of fourth-placed AC Milan, who lost 1-0 at Sampdoria on Saturday, but instead dropped to sixth after Atalanta won 3-1 at Parma to overtake them.

Arkadiusz Milik put Napoli ahead after two minutes, cleverly controlling Simone Verdi's chipped pass with his heel and then swiveling to fire past Robin Olsen.

Having dominated the first half, with another Milik goal chalked off for offside, Napoli were pegged back in stoppage time when Patrik Schick was fouled by goalkeeper Alex Meret and Diego Perotti slotted home the penalty.

Yet Roma were left reeling by two quick goals after the break as they slumped to a second defeat in Ranieri's three games in charge.

Jose Callejon's low cross slipped under Olsen's hand to leave Dries Mertens with a tap-in at the far post in the 50th minute, then Fabian Ruiz burst down the left and set up Verdi for the third five minutes later.

Substitute Amin Younes added the fourth, scoring at the second attempt after Roma failed to clear a corner.

Second-placed Napoli stayed 15 points behind runaway leaders Juventus, who beat Empoli 1-0 on Saturday.

Milan, in the lowest of the Champions League slots, have 51 points, followed by Atalanta (48) and Roma (47).

Ranieri returned for a second stint at the club to replace Eusebio Di Francesco, fired after a 3-0 derby defeat to Lazio was followed by Champions League elimination at the hands of Porto.

"It's difficult, but we are working hard and trying to do our best," said Ranieri. "The others run faster and harder and get to the ball first. Do I regret taking the job? Never."

Atalanta fell behind to an early Gervinho goal at Parma before Mario Pasalic levelled midway through the first half and two goals in the last 15 minutes from striker Duvan Zapata gave them the points.

The Colombian took his season's tally to 19, level with Juventus forward Cristiano Ronaldo and two behind leading scorer Fabio Quagliarella of Sampdoria.

Claudio Ranieri's problems mount as Napoli thump Roma 4-1

Teenager Moise Kean scored three minutes after coming on as a substitute to give Juventus a 1-0 win over lowly Empoli after the runaway Serie A leaders had been jeered off at halftime on Saturday.

The 19-year-old continued an impressive run of form which has seen him score three goals in five Serie A appearances this season and in both of Italy's Euro 2020 qualifiers this month, against Finland and Liechtenstein.

Juventus, missing Cristiano Ronaldo after he suffered a thigh injury in Portugal's 1-1 draw with Serbia on Monday and Paulo Dybala after he pulled up during the warm-up, struggled to break down the visitors until Kean struck in the 72nd minute. Giorgio Chiellini played a long ball out of his own half and Mario Mandzukic headed it into the path of Kean who fired past Bartlomiej Dragowski.

Juventus have 78 points, 18 clear of second-placed Napoli who visit AS Roma on Sunday. Empoli are 17th with 25 points, one point and one place above the relegation zone.

Juventus coach Massimiliano Allegri tried to keep Kean's feet firmly on the ground.

"Kean has quality but he has to improve in lots of areas and his willingness to make sacrifices will make the difference," he said. "So many players have lost their way along the road."

He added that Kean was not ready to start the match after his week with the national team.

"He scored two goals for Italy in as many games and having all that attention uses up a lot of energy both physically and mentally," he said. "He returned from the international break and looked like he barely knew where he was."

Empoli had enjoyed the better of the first half, angering the home crowd, and Rade Krunic was twice close to giving them a shock lead.

"The crowd were right because we didn't play well," said Allegri, referring to the fans' reaction.

Juventus, who lost their unbeaten league record in their previous outing when they were beaten 2-0 at Genoa, showed more signs of life after halftime as Federico Bernardeschi crashed an acrobatic volley against the crossbar.

Kean's entrance in the 69th minute got the biggest cheer of the evening up to that point and he could have had a second goal when he got clear of the Empoli defence but was foiled by Dragowski.

Teenager Moise Kean strikes again to break down stubborn Empoli

Juventus fell to their first Serie A defeat of the season on Sunday as Genoa ran out 2-0 winners days after the Turin club's Champions League heroics against Atletico Madrid.

Stefano Sturaro, who joined Genoa on loan from Juventus in January before the deal was made permanent, put the home side in front in the second half before fellow substitute Goran Pandev secured the shock result with 10 minutes remaining.

Cristiano Ronaldo inspired a remarkable European comeback for the Italian champions on Tuesday when he scored a hat-trick to overturn a 2-0 first-leg defeat against Atletico and send his side through to the quarter-finals with a 3-2 aggregate win.

However, the Portuguese was left out of the matchday squad for the trip to the Stadio Luigi Ferraris and Juve coach Massimiliano Allegri was left frustrated as Genoa took points off his side for the second time this season, having drawn 1-1 in Turin in October.

“I expected a different Juventus," Allegri told Italian broadcasters.

"We did not put in a good performance, we made some mistakes and then this goal came out of nowhere.

“Much like the Coppa Italia defeat to Atalanta, we picked the right game to lose, because it’s just before the break for international duty, so we have time to unplug and rest.

“I am actually happy for Stefano, because if anyone had to score against us, I’m glad it was Sturaro. He’s a lovely guy and suffered so much, out of action for practically a year with that tendon injury, so he deserves it.”

Juve had dropped points just three times this season going into the game, with draws against Genoa, Atalanta and Parma, while they were unbeaten overall in the top-flight for the last 31 rounds, since losing 1-0 to Napoli on 22 April 2018.

However, the hosts started the brighter as Christian Kouame forced a good save from former Genoa goalkeeper Mattia Perin before Cesare Prandelli's side were awarded a penalty for handball, only for a Video Assistant Referee (VAR) review to overturn the decision.

Juventus thought they had gone in front after the break when Paulo Dybala swept home a finish, but VAR chalked the goal off for an offside in the build-up.

Sturaro then curled a finish into the corner against his parent club just minutes after coming on, before Pandev made sure of the three points with a powerful finish.

Despite the result, Juventus remain 18 points clear of second-placed Napoli at the summit of the table, while Genoa climbed above Sassuolo into 12th place on 33 points.

Serie A leaders Juventus held on to win 2-1 at Napoli in a stormy top-of-the-table clash on Sunday which saw both teams have a player sent off and Lorenzo Insigne miss a late penalty for the hosts.

The win, courtesy of goals from Miralem Pjanic and Emre Can, took Juve 16 points clear of Napoli and almost certainly wrapped up an eighth straight title for the unbeaten Turin giants who have 72 points out of a possible 78 with 12 games left.

Juventus raced into a 2-0 halftime lead after Napoli goalkeeper Alex Meret was sent off in the 25th minute. The visitors then had Pjanic dismissed and Napoli's Jose Callejon pulled one back before Insigne let the Turin side off the hook.

The game hinged on an incident in the 25th minute when Napoli fullback Kevin Malcuit's back pass was intercepted by Cristiano Ronaldo, forcing Meret to come out of his penalty area and lunge at the Portuguese forward who went to ground.

The referee awarded a straight red card without reviewing the incident on the pitchside monitor. Replays, though, suggested that, although Ronaldo had to jump over Meret's outstretched leg, no contact was made.

"The rules, as I understand them, say that Meret should be sent off whether he makes contact or not," said Juve coach Massimiliano Allegri. "The referee decided, as did the video assistant."

However, Napoli coach Carlo Ancelotti said the referee should have seen the replay himself.&nbsp;

"The game was influenced by a controversial decision - did Meret touch him or not, which direction was the ball going? It would have been easier if the referee had looked on the monitor, given that it is there," he said.

PJANIC PENALTY

Meret's dismissal meant Napoli striker Arkadiusz Milik was sacrificed and replaced by substitute keeper David Ospina, whose first job was to pick the ball out of the net as Pjanic scored from the resulting free kick after 28 minutes.

Can added the second in the 39th when he was allowed a free header but the game took another twist with Pjanic's dismissal for a second bookable offence -- a handball in midfield -- two minutes after halftime.

Callejon stole in behind Juve defender Giorgio Chiellini to turn in Insigne's inswinging cross in the 61st minute to reduce the gap as Napoli turned the screw.

The hosts swarmed around the Juventus area and were awarded a penalty in the 82nd minute for handball against Alex Sandro, a decision awarded after a VAR review, but Insigne fired the spot kick against the inside of the post.

"I went to sleep because I should have taken Pjanic off after the first yellow card," said Allegri.

"Obviously, sixteen points is a significant advantage but the maths say that we haven`t won the championship yet."

"The rules, as I understand them, say that Meret should be sent off whether he makes contact or not," said Juve coach Massimiliano Allegri. "The referee decided, as did the video assistant." However, Napoli coach Carlo Ancelotti said the referee should have seen the replay himself. "The game was influenced by a controversial decision - did Meret touch him or not, which direction was the ball going? It would have been easier if the referee had looked on the monitor, given that it is there," he said. PJANIC PENALTY Meret's dismissal meant Napoli striker Arkadiusz Milik was sacrificed and replaced by substitute keeper David Ospina, whose first job was to pick the ball out of the net as Pjanic scored from the resulting free kick after 28 minutes.

Cristiano Ronaldo on target as Juventus cruise before Atletico showdown

Midfielder Aaron Ramsey was not used in his best position at Arsenal and can offer Juventus something different when he joins them next season, according to the Italian club.&nbsp;

Ramsey is <a href="http://www.wionews.com/sports/aaron-ramsey-leaves-arsenal-after-11-years-to-join-juventus-196858">set to join Juventus on a four-year deal</a> in the close season after signing a pre-contract with the defending Serie A champions this week. The Welshman's contract at Arsenal expires this season.&nbsp;

The 28-year-old has played in a number of midfield positions and also played as a wide forward during his 11-year stay at the north London club.&nbsp;

Juventus Sporting Director Fabio Paratici said Juventus should play him as a 'mezzala' - an advanced role in a three-man midfield - to make use of Ramsey's goal-scoring ability.&nbsp;

"Ramsey is a player who, in my opinion, has never found his position, because he has never played as a 'mezzala' in a three, which is his role," Paratici told Gazzetta dello Sport.&nbsp;

"He's more technical, he's a final ball man, he has a nose for the goal. He is a different player from what we've got, we don't have someone like him in our squad."&nbsp;

Arsenal did not play Aaron Ramsey in best position, says Juventus boss

Arsenal midfielder Aaron Ramsey is leaving the club after 11 seasons to join Juventus, the Serie A club said on Monday as it confirmed the Welshman had signed a four-year contract.

The 28-year-old will join the Turin side in July and become the third Welshman to play for them after John Charles, who played for them from 1957 to 1962, and Ian Rush.

Ramsey has made 256 Premier League appearances since joining Arsenal from Cardiff City in 2008 but he has struggled for a place in the starting line-up under Unai Emery this season and failed to agree on a new deal with the London club in the final year of his contract.

The impasse enabled him to negotiate a pre-contract agreement with foreign clubs since Jan. 1.

The BBC said that Ramsey will earn over $514,040 a week at Juventus, making him the highest-earning British player ever based on basic salary.

Ramsey has made 22 league appearances for Arsenal this season, starting in nine of those and scoring twice, including a splendid strike against Fulham in October that was regarded by many as an early contender for goal of the season.

He had month-long loans to Nottingham Forest and Cardiff City during the 2010-11 season to help him regain match fitness as he recovered from injury.

Ramsey published a statement on Twitter thanking Arsenal's "loyal and supportive" fans.

"You welcomed me as a teenager and have been there for me through all the highs and lows I've encountered during my time at the club," he said. "It is with a heavy heart that I leave after 11 incredible years in North London."

Arsenal said in a statement that Ramsey had made a "fantastic contribution" to the club.

"He has always been a consummate professional and will always have a special place in the hearts and memories of Arsenal fans around the world," it said.

Aaron Ramsey leaves Arsenal after 11 years to join Juventus

Parma forward Gervinho scored twice as his team hit back from 3-1 behind on Saturday to draw 3-3 at Serie A leaders Juventus who dropped points for only the third time in the league this season.

Cristiano Ronaldo also scored twice, making him Serie A's leading scorer with 17 goals, to put Juve in command but a brilliant flicked goal by Gervinho followed by a stoppage-time equaliser meant the Turin side's lead over Napoli was cut to nine points.

Juventus, chasing an eighth successive Serie A title and still unbeaten, have 60 points from 22 games while Napoli have 51 after their 3-0 win over Sampdoria earlier on Saturday.

Juventus coach Massimiliano Allegri was furious about the equaliser when his team lost the ball trying to play their way out of defence.

"The third goal was incredible, we had the ball by the corner flag... and then we played it into the penalty area. You can't do that in the 95th minute," he said. "There's no shame in just kicking the ball into the stands."

Juve went ahead in the 36th minute when Ronaldo collected Blaise Matuidi's pass in the penalty area and, although slipping, managed to produce a shot which deflected off a defender and beat Luigi Sepe.

Juventus were awarded a penalty for a foul on Martin Caceres at the end of the first half but the referee revoked it after a reviewing it on the pitchside monitor.

Daniele Rugani put Juventus 2-0 ahead in the 62nd minute after a series of ricochets, Antonino Barilla headed one back two minutes later and Ronaldo restored Juve's two-goal lead with a towering header in the 66th minute.

Former Arsenal and Roma forward Gervinho reduced the arrears again by turning in Juraj Kucka's low cross with a clever back-heeled flick at the near post in the 74th minute.

Deep into stoppage time, Juventus failed to clear the ball and Roberto Inglese forced his way to the goal-line and pulled the ball back for Gervinho, who scored with a shot which Mattia Perin got his hand to but could not stop.

"It wasn't easy to get back into the game from two goals behind," said Parma coach Roberto D'Aversa, whose side are 12th with 29 points. "But the lads did really well and got their reward."

Juventus foiled by Gervinho brace after leading 3-1

Cristiano Ronaldo scored a brace, the second goal a contentious penalty, to give Juventus a dramatic 2-1 win over Sampdoria who had a stoppage-time equaliser chalked off following a long VAR review in Serie A on Saturday.

Riccardo Saponara thought he had given Sampdoria a point when he curled a delightful shot past Mattia Perin and was booked for throwing off his shirt as he celebrated.

But, after a delay of nearly three minutes, referee Paolo Valeri ruled that there had been an offside in the buildup.

It was one of three VAR decisions in a game which also saw Sampdoria's 35-year-old forward Fabio Quagliarella score for the ninth Serie A game in a row, making him the first player to do so since David Trezeguet in 2005.

Leaders Juve reached the season's halfway mark with 53 points out of a possible 57, a Serie A record for a 20-team championship.

Sampdoria coach Marco Giampaolo described Juve's penalty, awarded for handball by Alex Ferrari, as absurd.

"The penalty given to Juventus was a present," he said. "We can talk about this until the day after tomorrow but you can't give a penalty like that, otherwise every Sunday will turn into a mess; that handball decision was absurd."

Ronaldo gave Juventus the lead after two minutes, collecting Paulo Dybala's pass and cutting inside to score with a low shot.

Former Juventus forward Quagliarella levelled in the 33rd minute from a penalty awarded after the ball hit the back of Emre Can's outstretched arm as he jumped for it.

The referee gave the penalty after looking at the incident on the pitchside monitor.

Juve's winner also came for a handball although the ball only brushed Ferrari's arm which did not appear to be outstretched.

The referee immediately pointed to the spot but Ronaldo had to wait more than two minutes to take his kick while the incident was reviewed on the pitchside monitor.

The Portugal forward took his tally to 14 goals, making him Serie A's top scorer.

Juventus coach Massimiliano Allegri said he believed his side needed 37 more points from their remaining 19 games to make sure of an eighth successive title.

"VAR is an important instrument," he said. "There were two penalties, both awarded with the use of VAR; one confirmed and one under a review. Looking at it that way, it was either both or neither. In Italy, we create too many controversies."

Cristiano Ronaldo brace gives Juve contentious win over unlucky Sampdoria

Inter Milan coach Luciano Spalletti said on Friday it was time to say "Enough" to racism and hatred in soccer following incidents before and during Wednesday's 1-0 win over Napoli.

Inter fans made animal noises and racist chants at Napoli’s Senegalese defender Kalidou Koulibaly during the match, while one fan was killed when he was hit by a car during a violent clash near the stadium before kickoff.

Other coaches also condemned the incidents although they had differing opinions on how to stop the problem.

Inter, who visit Empoli on Saturday, have been ordered to play their next two home games behind closed doors because of the incidents involving Koulibaly.

"I condemn (what happened) with no ifs and buts," Spalletti told a news conference.

"It's the moment to say 'Enough' to hatred in football, 'Enough' to racism and any form of discrimination in the stadium," he said.

"'Enough' to those who celebrate the Heysel or Superga disasters," he added, referring to the Brussels tragedy in which 39 people, mostly Juventus fans, died in 1985, and the 1949 air crash where Torino players and officials were among the 31 dead.

"'Enough' to jeering a coach or a player for 90 minutes... 'Enough' to hatred in football in general. That is the main thing."

Spalletti said that Inter were "with Koulibaly, as we are at the side of all those who are targeted during the games".

"It's very disappointing not to play in front of our own crowd but, if it's the price we have to pay to win this battle, we'll do it willingly," he added.

AS Roma coach Eusebio Di Francesco agreed with Napoli's Carlo Ancelotti, who said on Wednesday that his team will walk off the pitch if there is a repeat of the incident.

"I fully agree with what he says," he said. "If the state cannot deal with the problem, then it is up to us to give an important response."

AC Milan coach Gennaro Gattuso also backed Ancelotti.

"We just need to have the courage to do it," he said. "If the coach has the courage, then it becomes easier for everyone else.

"But this isn't just a problem in our country, because I've seen bananas thrown into the pitch in others."

Education needed

Juventus coach Massimiliano Allegri, however, said he did not believe that stopping matches was the answer.

"I don't tolerate any form of racism or insults about tragedies and deaths, but we should not stop games," he said.

"We need to educate children when they start school. And we, presidents, coaches and players, need to be aware that our words carry weight and influence people. We must be more responsible."

Former Napoli coach Maurizio Sarri, now with English Premier League side Chelsea, remembered that two matches were interrupted because of racist incidents when he was in charge of the team.

"I'm really very sorry for Kalidou because he is a wonderful man," he said. "I'm sorry for him but I think in Italy we can do something more about this problem."

Cristiano Ronaldo saved Juventus' unbeaten Serie A record this season when he came off the bench to score the equaliser in a dramatic 2-2 draw at Atalanta on Wednesday.

Juve, who dropped their first away points of the season, were down to 10 men at one of Serie A's toughest venues when Ronaldo nodded home from close range in the 78th minute.

The Turin side thought they had snatched a win when Leonardo Bonucci volleyed home from a free kick in stoppage time but it was ruled out for offside.

Juventus, with 16 wins and two draws from 18 games, have 50 points, nine ahead of Napoli who travel to Inter Milan later on Wednesday. Atalanta are eighth with 25 points.

"We knew we were in for a battle today. We did well to stay in the game after going down to 10 men," said Juventus coach Massimiliano Allegri.

"We could have won it at the end but it's still a good result against an excellent side."

Atalanta defender Berat Djimsiti miscued and sent an innocuous Alex Sandro cross into his own net to put Juventus ahead in the second minute before two goals from Duvan Zapata turned the game around.

The Colombian, scorer of Atalanta's last eight goals, collected Alejandro Gomez's pass with his back to goal and turned easily past Bonucci before firing a low shot past Wojciech Szczesny in the 24th minute.

Juventus midfielder Rodrigo Bentancur was sent off for a second bookable offence in the 53rd minute and Zapata headed Atalanta in front from a corner three minutes later.

Ronaldo, left out of the starting line-up for a Serie A game for the first time since his move from Real Madrid, came to the rescue with his 12th league goal of the season.

A corner was floated to the far post, Mario Mandzukic headed it back into the middle and Ronaldo nodded home.

Allegri apologised for his angry reaction on the touchline to Bentancur's dismissal.

"I got a bit angry today and I'm sorry about that but we should be setting an example for the fans," he said. "If we want to improve things in Italy, we need to improve our football culture.

Substitute Ronaldo saves 10-man Juve's unbeaten record

Portugal's Cristiano Ronaldo on Saturday scored the decider in the Turin derby at Torino (0-1), with a penalty at 20 minutes to go to, strengthening Juventus' lead in the Italian Serie A.

Cristiano unlocked a difficult encounter for Juventus and scored his eleventh league goal of the season, allowing him to equal Poland's Krzysztof Piatek, the Genoa striker, who was in command of the top scorers' standings.

Juventus won an intense derby, against a Torino that is in sixth place and fought with commitment, achieving some good opportunities to take the lead.

After a first half marked by a very physical game, Torino came out aggressive in the second half and approached the goal of Juventus with a header by Armando Izzo and a shot by Andrea Belotti from outside the area that touched the crossbar.

However, the rearguard of the reigning champion endured and the team of coach Massimiliano Allegri knew how to take advantage in the 70th minute, after a defensive error of Torino to get the maximum from a penalty, which decided the match.

Juventus Croatian forward Mario Mandzukic was knocked down in the area by Torino Uruguayan goalie Salvador Ichazo, which led to the penalty.

Ichazo guessed the direction of Cristiano's shot and managed to touch the ball, but couldn't stop it ending in the net. Ronaldo scored his eleventh personal goal of the year and the 5,000th in the history of Juventus in Serie A.

A minute after taking the lead, Allegri's side also savoured the idea of widening the gap, but the referee ruled out a goal from Mandzukic with a previous touch from Cristiano, who was offside.

Juventus were able to defend their lead until the end and now add up to their fifteenth win in 16 matches, something never achieved in Serie A history.

Juventus is now 11 points clear of second-placed Napoli, who will play at Cagliari on Sunday.

Hours earlier, Inter Milan defeated Udinese 1-0 with a decisive goal scored in the 75th minute by Argentina's Mauro Icardi, who converted a penalty to secure third place for the Milan side.

Cristiano Ronaldo decides Turin derby 0-1, Juventus remains on top

<a href="http://www.wionews.com/search?q=cristiano+ronaldo">Cristiano Ronaldo</a> has urged long-time rival <a href="http://www.wionews.com/search?q=lionel+messi">Lionel Messi</a> to be more like him and push his limits by challenging himself in another league than Spain.

"I'd like him to come to Italy one day. I hope he accepts the challenge like me, but if he's happy there then I respect that," Ronaldo told the Italian press on Monday.

The two strikers have been rivals for the past decade winning five Ballon d'Or trophies each before their domination was broken by World Cup runner-up Luka Modric last week.

Asked if he missed the 31-year-old Argentinian, who has spent his entire senior career at Barcelona, Ronaldo replied: "No, maybe it's him who misses me ...

"I've played in England, Spain, Italy, Portugal and for my national team, while he's still in Spain.

"Maybe he needs me more... For me, life is a challenge, I like it and I like to make people happy.

"He's a fantastic player and a good guy, but I don't miss anything here. This is my new life and I'm happy.

"I left my comfort zone and took on this challenge here in Turin, everything has gone well, I've proven I'm still an incredible player," said Ronaldo.

Ronaldo joined Juventus for $114 million&nbsp;last summer as the Turin giants bid to lift the Champions League trophy after two runners-up finish in the past four seasons.

To mark his 150 days in Italy he gave interviews on Monday to three leading sports dailies: La Gazzetta dello Sport, Corriere dello Sport and Tuttosport.

"I had different options. I won't say which but I had them. Juventus is a solid club. It has a long history," he said of his decision.&nbsp;

"I knew the atmosphere in the stadium. I'd played several times in Italy. I like the city, the people and the club.&nbsp;I knew it could work.

"I couldn't be 100 per cent sure I was joining the best club in the world. After nine years at Real Madrid it was difficult to compare.

"Now I'm 100 per cent sure it was the right option."

'Not an obsession'

Ronaldo has scored 11 goals this season, bringing his career total to 584.

Finishing second in Ballon d'Or voting to Modric, said Ronaldo, just motivates him even more.

"Of course I'm disappointed, but life goes on and I will continue to work hard," said the 33-year-old.&nbsp;

"On the pitch I've done everything to win the Ballon d'Or, numbers do not lie, but I'm no less happy if I do not win, I have wonderful friends and a family, I play in one of the best clubs.&nbsp;

"Congratulations to Modric, who has earned the award, but next year we will meet again and I will do everything to win the prize again.

"Do you think I'm going home and crying?"&nbsp;

Juventus play Young Boys in their final Champions League group game in Switzerland on Wednesday, having already booked their place in the knockout rounds.

And Ronaldo is hoping his experience of winning the trophy five times can serve his new team.

"The Champions League cannot be an obsession, you have to think about it calmly," he warned.

"Yes we all want it but we have to get there step by step.&nbsp;

"Look at the game against Manchester United (2-1 defeat), if it had been a quarter-final we would have gone out. You need a little luck."

'Try something new, come to Italy,' Cristiano Ronaldo urges Lionel Messi

Juventus moved nine points clear at the top of Serie A with a 2-0 win over SPAL on Saturday as Cristiano Ronaldo's strike made him the league's joint-top scorer.

Goals either side of the break from the Portugal international and Mario Mandzukic earned Juve their 12th win of an unbeaten start to the league season, with Ronaldo joining Genoa striker Krzysztof Piatek on nine goals.

Massimiliano Allegri’s side have now collected 37 points from a possible 39 and hold a significant lead over second-placed Napoli on 28 points ahead of their game against Chievo on Sunday.

Juventus appeared to have taken the lead after just 10 minutes when SPAL defender Felipe deflected a cross into his own net, but the effort was disallowed after Mandzukic was penalised for encroaching in the penalty box as Alfred Gomis took his goal kick in the build-up.

After half an hour, Ronaldo opened the scoring with a controlled left-footed finish into the corner from Miralem Pjanic’s free kick, becoming the first player since Pietro Anastasi in 1968-69 to reach nine goals in 13 games for the club.

Juventus, one of three teams in Europe’s top five leagues to have scored in every league game this season along with Barcelona and Paris St Germain, doubled their lead on the hour mark shortly after Douglas Costa had rattled the post from a tight angle.

Costa’s powerful shot was parried by Gomis into the path of Mandzukic, who tapped in from close range on the night that he captained Juventus from the start for the first time.

Ronaldo threatened to add a second, forcing Gomis into a smart save from distance before shooting wide from a promising position as Juventus strolled to a comfortable victory.

In the early kickoff, Davide Nicola masterminded a 1-0 win over AS Roma on his debut as Udinese coach, ending a 10-match losing run for his new club in the fixture.

Rodrigo De Paul scored the only goal of the game early in the second half to move Udinese above Bologna into 16th place on 12 points, while Roma remained on 19 points in seventh.

That opened the floodgates, with Willian adding a second 17 minutes later, Dudu scoring a spectacular third from 25 metres out and substitute Deyverson heading home the fourth nine minutes from time.

Palmeiras, who are led by former Brazil and Chelsea manager Luiz Felipe Scolari, are now unbeaten in 21 league games.

AS Roma grabbed a late draw at Fiorentina in Serie A on Saturday when Alessandro Florenzi`s equaliser cancelled out a contentious first-half penalty converted by Jordan Veretout.

Veretout scored from the spot for the third time in the last five Serie A games after Cengiz Under`s backpass was intercepted by Giovanni Simeone and the Argentine went down under a challenge from goalkeeper Robin Olsen.

It was the third penalty against Roma this season and it was questionable if there was any contact although the referee decided against using a VAR review.

Fiorentina kept the lead until the 85th minute when goalkeeper Alban-Marc Lafont attempted to punch away Aleksandar Kolarov`s cross and Florenzi tucked away the rebound.

Lafont made amends five minutes later with a good save to deny Edin Dzeko and preserve Fiorentina`s unbeaten home record.

The draw left the teams level on 16 points from 11 games with Fiorentina ahead in sixth place on goal difference.

Cristiano Ronaldo scored twice, the first a penalty and the second a booming long-range shot, to give Juventus a 2-1 win at Empoli in Serie A on Saturday after their lowly opponents took a shock first-half lead.

Promoted Empoli, with one win all season and 18th in the 20-team table, stunned the visitors with a Francesco Caputo goal -- the first time Juve had trailed at halftime this season.

But the champions turned the match around after the break as Ronaldo took his league tally to seven and left his side top with 28 points out of a possible 30, seven points clear of second-placed Napoli who play on Sunday.

Juventus defender Giorgio Chiellini, who was named in the starting lineup, suffered a problem in the warm-up and was replaced by Daniele Rugani.

Empoli played some enterprising football which belied their lowly position and took a shock lead in the 28th minute.

Afriyie Acquah ran half the length of the pitch and his pass was deflected by Juve's Rodrigo Bentancur into the path of Caputo, who curled his shot past Wojciech Szczesny.

Miralem Pjanic fired against the post as Juventus came roaring back in the second half and it was no surprise when they equalised in the 54th minute.

Empoli's Ismael Bennacer lost possession in the box to Paulo Dybala, both players went to ground, the referee awarded a penalty amid Empoli protests and Ronaldo fired a low spot kick past Ivan Provedel.

Sixteen minutes later, the Portuguese forward collected a pass outside the area and fired a dipping, swerving shot past Provedel from 25 metres.

Inter Milan forward Mauro Icardi scored with a stoppage-time header to give his side a 1-0 win over neighbours AC Milan in their derby at San Siro on Sunday.

The match was heading for a tame goalless draw until Matias Vecino floated over a long cross from the right, Milan goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma was caught in no man's land and Icardi scored at the far post in the 92nd minute.

The Argentina forward, who missed two goals when the sides drew 0-0 in April in their previous meeting, had barely been involved in the game until that point, apart from having an early goal chalked off for offside.

Mateo Musacchio also had one disallowed for Milan just before halftime.

Inter went third in Serie A with 19 points from nine games, six behind leaders Juventus who drew 1-1 at home to Genoa on Saturday. Milan are 12th with 12 points, having played one game fewer.

Both coaches agreed that Inter deserved to win. "I wanted us to score earlier," said Inter coach Luciano Spalletti. "We obviously deserved to win as we spent most of the game in their half."

His opposite number Gennaro Gattuso agreed that "Inter did more to earn the points."

"The team did well, the only regret is we didn't exploit some counter-attacks towards the end. We have to look ahead, but it burns."

Milan created very few chances and striker Gonzalo Higuain had to feed off scraps.

The first half was a bad-tempered but entertaining affair while the second half was disappointing and was petering out until Icardi's goal from out of the blue.

Tempers flared when Milan midfielder Lucas Biglia caught his opposite number Radja Nainggolan with a late tackle from behind and both players went down injured.

Biglia was booked and an angry Nainggolan had to go off shortly afterwards.

Despite losing the combative Belgian, Inter were enjoying the better of the first half and defender Stefan de Vrij volleyed against the post, then a last-ditch tackle by Alessio Romagnoli denied Icardi a scoring chance.

Milan thought they had scored when Musacchio managed to turn the ball in at the far post just before halftime but the linesman flagged and replays showed he was offside when Romagnoli flicked the ball on.

Inter had a golden chance to go ahead from the next attack but Vecino fired wildly over from a free position after Ivan Perisic cut the ball back into the area.

Inter were more adventurous after halftime and lived up to their reputation of leaving it late - Icardi's goal was the seventh time they have scored in the last 15 minutes this season, more than any other Serie A side.
