Yesterday, a terror attack on a Gurudwara in Kabul, Afghanistan had left 27 people dead. Eight people have also been wounded. All four terrorists have been neutralised by Afghan security forces.

Based on information received by the Afghan Interior Ministry, the attack was carried out by suicide bombers.

"We have requested the minister to take all the necessary precautions to bring them (students) back soon. The virus is spreading fast, so we are worried," said Nazir Ahmad, whose ward is studying in Iran.

The parents also raised the demand to increase the medical screening centres, so that the evacuation is timely.

EAM Jaishankar visits Kashmir, meets parents of students stranded in Iran

External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar, during a surprise visit to Srinagar on Monday, met family members of the students who are stuck in Iran amid the coronavirus scare that has gripped more that has 100 countries across the world.

The Union minister, yesterday, said that the screening process of Indian pilgrims stranded in Iran has started and follow up arrangements are being discussed with Iranian authorities to bring them back.

But the parents during a meeting with Jaishankar also urged the Centre to bring back the children studying in Iran. "We are very thankful to him for looking into the matter so keenly.&nbsp; Even we are trying to cooperate with the Government of India. Being a parent it is also very difficult to see our children panicking there. They are discussing bringing back the pilgrim; we want our children to also be evacuated soon."

Iran is among the countries worst-hit by the coronavirus outbreak. Some 194 people have now died after contracting the viral infection there.

Around 40 Indian citizens are stranded at Qom city in Iran. New Delhi has sent a team of doctors to Iran for screening and has established a clinic at Qom.

A parent said, "External Affairs Minister has given us an assurance that he will get our children back from Iran; we have requested him to do it at the earliest. But it will take some time. The minister did not reveal any particular time frame for the evacuation. Our children are in distress as they have been quarantined within the four walls of the dormitory. They do not even have proper access to food and medicines."

Iranian Embassy here has also assured that the Indian citizens with no symptoms of the virus will be transferred to India and those whose medical test results are positive will be hospitalized in one of the advanced special medical centers designated by Iran's Ministry of Health.

Jaishankar will also visit Passport Seva Kendra in Baramulla district of north Kashmir.&nbsp;

The Union minister, yesterday, said that the screening process of Indian pilgrims stranded in Iran has started and follow up arrangements are being discussed with Iranian authorities to bring them back. But the parents during a meeting with Jaishankar also urged the Centre to bring back the children studying in Iran. "We are very thankful to him for looking into the matter so keenly. Even we are trying to cooperate with the Government of India. Being a parent it is also very difficult to see our children panicking there. They are discussing bringing back the pilgrim; we want our children to also be evacuated soon." Iran is among the countries worst-hit by the coronavirus outbreak. Some 194 people have now died after contracting the viral infection there. Around 40 Indian citizens are stranded at Qom city in Iran. New Delhi has sent a team of doctors to Iran for screening and has established a clinic at Qom. A parent said, "External Affairs Minister has given us an assurance that he will get our children back from Iran; we have requested him to do it at the earliest. But it will take some time. The minister did not reveal any particular time frame for the evacuation. Our children are in distress as they have been quarantined within the four walls of the dormitory. They do not even have proper access to food and medicines." Iranian Embassy here has also assured that the Indian citizens with no symptoms of the virus will be transferred to India and those whose medical test results are positive will be hospitalized in one of the advanced special medical centers designated by Iran's Ministry of Health. Jaishankar will also visit Passport Seva Kendra in Baramulla district of north Kashmir.

Nature of the world has changed," he added.

" As we get more capable, as our confidence level goes, as our interest in the world goes up, their interest in us go up, we have to do management in a different we. We have to engage everybody. It is a kind of portfolio management, how do u spread your bets, and get the best," he added.

Iran has been most vocal in its reaction to the recent developments in India. Iran's Supreme Leader Imam Sayyid Ali Khamenei and Foreign Minister Javad Zarif in a tweet condemned the recent developments in India.&nbsp;

Khamenei in a tweet said, "The hearts of Muslims all over the world are grieving over the massacre of Muslims in India. The govt of India should confront extremist Hindus &amp; their parties &amp; stop the massacre of Muslims in order to prevent India’s isolation from the world of Islam."

The Delhi riots issue was discussed in the British Parliament while Indonesia raised the matter with Indian envoy to Jakarta. Protests have taken place in countries like Bangladesh.&nbsp;

Even Democratic presidential candidate in the US Bernie Sanders slammed President Donald Trump for not raising the matter during his recent India trip.

Slamming the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights Michelle Bachelet, he said "She has been wronged before."

He also highlighted how Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) never talked about the issue of cross border emanating from Pakistan.&nbsp;

"I have seen from the same body, reports about, the situation in Jammu and Kashmir, how carefully they skirt around cross border terrorism problem, as though it has somehow nothing to do with the country next door," he said.

Last week, OHCHR announced that it will be moving to India's top court on CAA. &nbsp;

"Today, we Indians, have a very high standing in Afghan society. People genuinely like us. A lot of the work we have done is appreciated. And when it comes to Afghanistan, my own sense is, people tend to be too hard on ourselves. And my own sense is that serious conversations about Afghanistan have only now just begun. Asked about Pakistan's role as ''destabliser'' in the region and role in Afghanistan, Jaishankar said, "Pakistan is the neighbour. It is the proximate neighbour. Our border with Afghanistan is smaller than Pakistan's. But you have to ask yourself what has Pakistan done, in the last 20 years, what has been their contribution".

External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar on Thursday said an Indian medical team will reach Iran during the day and the authorities here are working on the logistics with their Iranian counterparts for the return of the Indians stranded there in the wake of the coronavirus outbreak in the country.

Working on logistics with Iranians for return of Indians due to coronavirus: Foreign Minister Jaishankar

In his first reaction to historic peace deal inked between the Taliban and the United States in Doha on Saturday, External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar said that the agreement was akin to yesteryear's blockbuster Pakeezah and added, while it was "not a surprise", the current situation in Afghanistan is being carefully watched.

"Issue for us is that for at the moment the United States is talking in terms of thining down its presence and providing support to the government in Kabul. According to the deal, foreign forces will leave the country and the Taliban will be delisted from the United Nations Security Council's sanctions list. EAM said India's message to the "US and to the West" is that "achievements of the last 18 years is in global interest that those achievements are secured, protected and not jeopardized." He said while India will "wait and see how this plays out", real negotiations "will start now and then we will have to see many of the assumptions that we had, how cohesive are various players, what do they do and what are their demands. Does the Taliban join a democratic setup or does a democratic setup adjusts to the Taliban." India's official policy has been an "Afghan-led, Afghan-owned and Afghan-controlled" peace talks. New Delhi has emerged as a major partner of Kabul in last 18 year and helping develop infrastructure projects like the National Parliament in Kabul and the India Afghanistan friendship dam in Herat and many community and capacity building projects. India's foreign secretary Harsh Vardhan Shringla was in Kabul on Friday and Saturday and called on President Dr. Ashraf Ghani, Chief Executive Dr. Abdullah Abdullah and former President Hamid Karzai, First Vice President-elect Amrullah Saleh, NSA Dr. Hamdullah Mohib, Acting Foreign Minister Mohammad Haroon Chakhansuri and Acting Finance Minister Abdul Zadran.

Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan on Monday wrote to External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar, urging him to direct Indian embassy officials in Iran to take necessary steps for the evacuation of more than a hundred Indian fishermen stranded in the Middle Eastern country amid coronavirus outbreak.

In a letter dated March 1, Vijayan informed that the fishermen -- 60 of whom hail from Kerala -- are "unable to return to India on account of the COVID-19 spread" in Iran.

"We have received information that more than a hundred fishermen are trapped in Azalur, Iran. When contacted by State Government officials, it has been stated by the persons trapped in Azalur that more than a hundred persons are there out of which around sixty are reported to be from Kerala," the letter read.

"As per the prevailing situation, it is learnt that they are unable to return to India on account of the COVID-19 spread. In this circumstances, I request you to direct the Embassy officials to take necessary steps and arrange for the safe return of these persons," it added.

Iran has reported 54 deaths from coronavirus -- the most outside of China -- while as many as 987 people have been infected from the virus, the country`s Health Ministry said, as reported by the IRNA.

Vijayan`s letter to Jaishankar comes a day after Indian Ambassador to Iran Gaddam Dharmendra said that the authorities are working to facilitate the return of those Indians who wish to go back to New Delhi.

"In view of coronavirus, we are working to facilitate the return of those Indians wishing to go back home. Discussions are underway with concerned authorities to work out arrangements," the ambassador said.

First detected to the Chinese city of Wuhan in December, last year, coronavirus has spread to more than 45 countries across the world, including India.&nbsp;

Jaishankar thanked the Iranian authorities for their assistance.
