Russia on Wednesday hit out at European Union and larger western efforts to introduce a cap on the price of the Russian oil. The Russian foreign ministry said that the country will not supply oil to countries imposing a price cap.

Russian foreign ministry added that the proposal was an "anti-market" one and it would disrupt supply chains and worsen the situation on global energy markets.

"We have repeatedly said that the introduction of the so-called ceiling on Russian oil prices is not just a non-market mechanism, it is an anti-market measure," Russian foreign ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said.

"Russia will not supply oil to countries that back this anti-Russian confrontational initiative. It is anti-Russian, but the repercussions will be disastrous for everyone," Zakharova added, reiterating what Russian Deputy Prime Minister Alexander Novak had asserted earlier.

Russian wives encouraging their husbands to rape Ukrainian women, alleges first lady Olena Zelenska

The war in Ukraine is raging now for the last nine months as Kiev has been resolutely defending its territory. Russia has been relentlessly attacking Ukraine and the West has been ensuring non stop supply of weapons to Ukraine.

As Russian missile strikes continue to damage energy infrastructure across Ukraine, with rising concerns that the winter season will be difficult for the people who are living in war-hit zones. The West has claimed that Russian President Vladimir Putin wants "to use winter as a weapon of war" in the ongoing war in Ukraine, which led to massive food and fuel crisis globally.

Russia hit out at the comments by Pope Francis that sought to draw distinction between Russian soldiers who belong to the Russian tradition and those who purportedly do not. Pope Francis had alleged that during the war in Ukraine, soldiers who are "generally Chechens and Buryats" showed the "cruelest" conduct.

Chechens are an ethnic minority in Chechnya, in the north-west of Russia. Buryats are ethnically Mongol, hailing from Siberia. The latter traditionally follow Buddhist and shamanic beliefs.

Russian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Maria Zakharova condemned the comments, as reported in Ruptly.

"This is no longer Russophobia, it's a perversion on a level I can't even name," she said.

'Perversion': Russia calls out Pope Francis comments against minority soldiers

World's toxic arms watchdog on Monday warned that the threat stemming from weapons of mass destruction, including chemical ammunition has increased, thanks to the Russian invasion of Ukraine.

Fernando Arias, chief of the Organisation for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW) said that his organisation has been closely monitoring the situation in Ukraine and that the ongoing conflict "exacerbated existing tensions" and that it has "increased the real threat posed by weapons of mass destruction, including chemical weapons".

Russia is reported to be removing nuclear warheads from ageing nuclear cruise missiles and firing unarmed munitions at Ukraine, Britain's military intelligence said on Saturday. The development comes a day after President Vladimir Putin of Russia assured bereaved families of Russian soldiers that Moscow's goals will be achieved soon.

"We must achieve our goals and we will achieve them in the end. I personally and the entire leadership of the country share this pain," AFP quoted Putin as saying.

The UK defence ministry claimed that an open source imagery "shows the wreckage of an air-launched cruise missile fired at Ukraine which seems to have been designed in the 1980s as a nuclear delivery system", adding that ballast was probably being substituted for the warheads.

"Such a system will still produce damage through the missile's kinetic energy and unspent fuel. However, it is unlikely to achieve reliable effects against intended targets," the ministry added in its daily intelligence update posted on Twitter.

Why are these drones special?

The MQ-1C Gray Eagle drone as per Reuters has an operational ceiling of 29,000 feet. This capability can go a long way in helping Ukraine in its defence and would "represent a great technological leap" for the country.

Does Ukraine only want these particular drones?

No, as Russia increasingly uses kamikaze drones and targets civilian infrastructure, Ukraine has made several requests for the United States to give it sophisticated drones. Its most recent request was for anti-drone missiles.

Why is the US hesitant to grant Ukraine's request?

While the Pentagon hasn't publicly stated its position, it is believed that the denial was motivated by worries that the drones could intensify the conflict and the belief that they are not necessary for Ukraine's military effort. Additionally, there are concerns that drones might be shot down.

The senators as per a Wall Street Journal report have given Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin until November 30 to respond to their questions.
