While Rishi had slightly different reasons, which were very apparent when he walked towards Dimple on the first day of the institute and called her 'future wife.' Dimple was completely unaware that her mother had not hit the pause button on the 'shaadi talk' at home. But, the only reason she was allowed to go to Jaipur was to meet the 'possible future husband.' While the duo did start on the wrong foot, they gradually get to know each other and somewhere in the middle of the show get romantically involved.</p>

<p>Don't get me wrong, there is nothing bad in a simple rom-com. It makes a perfect addition to your binge list, after all, who doesn't like a cute love story with bucket loads of drama. It has been working for many years and it will possibly continue to do so in the future. But, the problem in 'Mismatched' is they try to over-complicate the simple love story. Initially, they try to merge it with a coming-of-age plotline with teenagers trying to find their way in life, but as we reach the last episode it just falls apart.</p>

<p>Honestly, the fact that Dimple's mother was pushing so much for her daughter's wedding at the age of 17 did seem a bit stretched. Also, for Rishi to completely be okay, actually enthusiastic for marriage in his teens did not fit quite well in the 'millennial plotline.' Especially when he had seen nothing but just a picture of Dimple.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Let's also talk about the cliché representation of its characters, who for some reason are always rude and angry with each other. There is a bunch of rich kids who like always are extra mean to the 'not-so-privileged' students of the class. A self-declared leader of the privileged group, who is extra angry and thinks he is unbeatable. An NRI who criticizes the way Indians scream and basically everything about the country.</p>

<p>Surprisingly, Dimple was also unnecessarily mean in some situations, whether it was her defense mechanism or a way to deal with situations, make her unlikeable in some scenes. Even if we ignore all these factors, the thing which really went too far and gave us 'Student of the Year' feels, was when they held a proper stage competition with an anchor and fancy lights for a small bet between Dimple and another student. Here is when the word 'simple love story' just went flying past the window.</p>

<p>What works for the show? The chemistry between Dimple and Rishi is on point and makes us root for the couple. That's why the end of season 1 was so upsetting. The story of the other characters- the subtle romance between Professor Siddharth and an older student Zeenat, Namrata's coming out of the closet story and Anmol's fight with disability. All these&nbsp;parallel storylines were executed very well. We also enjoyed the scenes in which Dimple snaps back at all the sexist remarks made by other students and her mother. Whether it was standing up for the female gamers or her dark skin colour, she came back in a way they least expected.<br />

Talking about the music of the show, the song which really stuck till the end, was Prateek Kuhad's 'Kaha Ho Tum.' Just as his last song, Kasoor, this one also has another level of charm.</p>

<p>If you have no other show to binge-watch this weekend, you can give Netlfix's 'Mismatched' a try. But watch it with little or no expectations because it's a disappointing downward curve.</p>

A story of chaos, of finding love, of finding happiness as life takes its unpredictable course much like a game of dice, 'Ludo' warms you up with its stunning frames, heartwarming performances and its little details.</p>

<p>At the core of the story is Sattu Bhai, a gangster (Pankaj Tripathi) who also serves as the common thread in the four stories. There's a leaked sex tape that an estranged couple must take care of, a desperate wife takes the help of her childhood friend and admirer to get her husband out of the jail who has been wrongly implicated, two uncanny people- united by circumstances and fate are on the run with two big bags full of cash and an ex henchman finds himself in the company of a six-year-old who gives him life lessons that help him find closure.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Much like his previous films, Basu makes 'Ludo' a visually rich experience. Each of the scenes is framed stunningly, with the filmmaker serving as the cinematographer as well as the writer of the film. As a result, Basu implements exactly how he may have envisioned each of the scenes. The characters and their story graph are based on the colours of a Ludo board game. Green is for envy, red is for anger, blue is used for bullying and yellow for happiness. He demarcates the characters and their storyline accordingly- thereby making the film look like a rich palette of colours. Of course, when it comes to Basu, he pays dollops of tribute to filmmakers from the world over. In 'Ludo' there were scenes that looked like an ode to Wong Kar Wai's 'In The Mood For Love' and some of the chase sequences were similar to Charlie Chaplin's style and some to Jacky Chan's. And while many would argue that Basu unnecessary lifts ideas, I feel his tributes are very well incorporated into the plot of a film.&nbsp;</p>

There's, of course, Rajkummar Rao who, once again proves that given a good script, he can prove his mettle at comedy. Rao plays a lovelorn Aaloo, who willingly lets hid childhood crush Pinky (Sana Fatima Sheikh) govern his life. He can do anything for her- give up his life savings, rescue her husband from the jail and even get rid of a dead body. Channelising his inner Mithun, Rao's Aalu is a delight to watch - particularly because of how the actor plays him effortlessly.&nbsp;</p>

Bachchan plays Bittu- a once dreaded criminal - who now after serving 6 years jail term- pines for his daughter and estranged wife ( Asha Negi). Circumstances lead him to the Inayat's character- a seven-year-old who is too smart for her age and who herself pines for the attention of her busy parents. Some of the most heartwarming scenes of the film feature these two. The child is talkative while the man is brooding and the two form an uncanny bond of friendship.&nbsp;</p>

One knows how to manipulate the man who has loved her all her life (Sheikh), one openly seeks a rich man to settle down with as a trophy wife (Sanya Malhotra), one is calculative, smart and foresees a better future with a man she has just met(Pearle Maaney). The women in 'Ludo' may not always be speaking out- but are strong individuals who know what they want in life and how to get it.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Since it is an anthology, the filmmaker takes leisurely time to establish each of the plots. A lot is happening on screen and the filmmaker gives a detailed introduction of each track. As a result, the film appears to be long. With multiple chase sequence and several intertwining of plots, it can become a task to keep track of each of the stories. It is certainly a bit chaotic but the flaw is salvaged because of the detailed screenplay which most often leaves you smiling.&nbsp;</p>

If 'Aabaad Barbaad' is about unrequited love, in 'Meri Tum Ho' love takes ownership. The songs are so picturesque - you want to keep watching them over and over again.</p>

'Ludo' review: In pursuit of love and happiness, Anurag Basu's film leaves you with a smile

<p>Death is the underlying theme of Shonali Bose's 'The Sky Is Pink'. A young girl is suffering from a terminal illness and it's her family's story through her eyes. But despite a very grim premise, Bose's film manages to make you smile, tear up and even feel warm and fuzzy.&nbsp;<br />
<br />
Hindi cinema has dealt with death before and tried to give the flip side of the grim reality with the perky, positive protagonist suffering from terminal diseases. Films like 'Anand', 'Cheeni Kum' and 'Kal Ho Naa Ho' (and many more) have all had important characters suffering from a fatal disease being the fulcrum of the said story- giving life lessons to others, being upbeat about life even though doom looms large on their own future. In 'The Sky Is Pink', Aisha Chaudhary (Zaira Wasim) is already dead when the movie begins, but she as a narrator, tells the story of her parents Niren and Aditi ( Farhan Akhtar and Priyanka Chopra Jonas) who along with their son (Rohit Suresh Saraf) have spent their lifetime (well, 18 years seems like a lifetime ) tending to Aisha who dies of pulmonary fibrosis.</p>

<p>When the film opens in 2015, the couple is struggling to move on after Aisha's death. But as the story progresses, Aisha narrates the most heartwarming story of a family that stuck through all the odds. Bose along with co-writer Nilesh Maniyar not only gives a perky story of a very brave Aisha but also of her caregivers who are often pushed to the background despite their tireless efforts to keep the patient alive.<br />

While you know the story- that of a family focussing their lives in giving the best treatment and comfort to their ailing child- it is the non-linear narrative, which travels to different years and gives different anecdotes of Niren and Aditi that keeps you engaged throughout. Spruced with relatable, funny dialogues, the writers engulf you into their world and even though you may not have lost a child, you feel their pain, you understand their urgency to live life to the fullest in their limited time and understand the grief they are put through.&nbsp;<br />

Death and grief do not always bring a family together. In many cases, it tears people apart, breaks relationships and families- because no two people have the same way of dealing with grief, much like life itself. And while 'The Sky Is Pink' highlights the importance of living life to the fullest no matter what, it also&nbsp;points at what prolonged illness and death does to families, the caregivers. But despite a very grim premise, Bose's film manages to make you smile, tear up and even feel warm and fuzzy. Hindi cinema has dealt with death before and tried to give the flip side of the grim reality with the perky, positive protagonist suffering from terminal diseases. Films like 'Anand', 'Cheeni Kum' and 'Kal Ho Naa Ho' (and many more) have all had important characters suffering from a fatal disease being the fulcrum of the said story- giving life lessons to others, being upbeat about life even though doom looms large on their own future. In 'The Sky Is Pink', Aisha Chaudhary (Zaira Wasim) is already dead when the movie begins, but she as a narrator, tells the story of her parents Niren and Aditi ( Farhan Akhtar and Priyanka Chopra Jonas) who along with their son (Rohit Suresh Saraf) have spent their lifetime (well, 18 years seems like a lifetime ) tending to Aisha who dies of pulmonary fibrosis. When the film opens in 2015, the couple is struggling to move on after Aisha's death. But as the story progresses, Aisha narrates the most heartwarming story of a family that stuck through all the odds. Bose along with co-writer Nilesh Maniyar not only gives a perky story of a very brave Aisha but also of her caregivers who are often pushed to the background despite their tireless efforts to keep the patient alive. While you know the story- that of a family focussing their lives in giving the best treatment and comfort to their ailing child- it is the non-linear narrative, which travels to different years and gives different anecdotes of Niren and Aditi that keeps you engaged throughout. Spruced with relatable, funny dialogues, the writers engulf you into their world and even though you may not have lost a child, you feel their pain, you understand their urgency to live life to the fullest in their limited time and understand the grief they are put through. Death and grief do not always bring a family together. In many cases, it tears people apart, breaks relationships and families- because no two people have the same way of dealing with grief, much like life itself. And while 'The Sky Is Pink' highlights the importance of living life to the fullest no matter what, it also points at what prolonged illness and death does to families, the caregivers.
