The 49-page charge sheet said Trump took hundreds of classified government documents in cardboard boxes to his mar-a-lago residence in Florida. On at least two occasions, trump showed classified papers on US Military operations & plans to people not cleared to see them at his Bedminster-new Jersey golf club. Trump's personal aide, Walt Nauta, was named as a co-conspirator, and charged with six counts for helping him hide documents. A day after Donald Trump claimed that 'even' former New York governor Andrew Cuomo handled the coronavirus pandemic better than California Governor Ron DeSantis, the latter has hit back.

A day after Donald Trump claimed that 'even' former New York governor Andrew Cuomo handled the coronavirus pandemic better than California Governor Ron DeSantis, the latter has hit back. DeSantis ripped into Trump by saying the claim was "very bizarre" as Cuomo was involved in the infamous nursing home scandal. “First of all, Florida had less excess mortality than California or New York. Part of that is because states like California had excess mortality derived from the lockdown policy, which is really, really avoidable mortality," said DeSantis in an interview with The Daily Wire's Ben Shapiro. “But if he thinks Cuomo handled it better, that’s an indication if something like this were to happen again, he would double down and do what he did in March of 2020,” he added. "We all have to sit here today in 2023, look back on March of 2020 and say, 'Faucism was wrong. Faucism was destructive. Faucism has set us on this path with the CARES Act and the Fed printing money, creating inflation, and creating some of the economic problems that we have today." "So, if you could do it again, would he do the same thing?" DeSantis added. "I sure hope not." On Thursday, in an election video campaign, Trump said Florida had one of the highest numbers of deaths from COVID-19 in the country. “How about the fact that he had the third most deaths of any state having to do with the China virus or COVID? Even Cuomo did better, he was number four,” Trump claimed. However, DeSantis turned the tide when he asked if Trump would have doubled down on Cuomo's plan if he was given a do-over. During the early stages of the pandemic in March 2020, the democrat leader issued a highly troublesome executive order that forced nursing homes to admit COVID-19 patients so that hospital space could be freed and numbers not look catastrophic. However, the move severely backfired as the senior citizens - termed the most vulnerable due to the virus, contracted it and died en masse. The policy remained in effect till May 10 before it was quietly withdrawn but not before it had caused the damage. According to a study by Empire Centre for Public Policy, Cuomo's policy was possibly responsible for more than '1,000 death' as it allowed COVID-19 to spread among vulnerable seniors. The New York State Health Department in a scathing report found that Cuomo had 'misled the public' and reported less death to save his image. “While the Department’s duty is to act solely to promote public health, we determined that, rather than providing accurate and reliable information during a public health emergency, the Department instead conformed its presentation to the Executive’s narrative, often presenting data in a manner that misled the public,” read the report. The White House confirmed on Friday (May 19) that debt limit talks between United States President Joe Biden's Democratic administration and House Republicans had come to a halt. The pause raised concerns a bit over a US default. "We've got to pause," Republican leader Kevin McCarthy told reporters in Congress, adding, "We can't be spending any more money next year."

But NBC News in its latest report mentioned that the Republicans returned to the debt ceiling negotiating table Friday night. Later, a White House official confirmed to the news outlet that the two parties had reopened talks.

McCarthy told Fox Business Friday night: "We will be back in the room tonight."

The deadline to avoid a potentially disastrous default looms as the Biden administration hopes to reach an agreement with Republicans led by McCarthy.

The nation stands on the verge of default if the government does not agree to raise the borrowing limit from its current 31.4 trillion dollars in order to maintain paying the nation's debts.

But both parties have been dilly-dallying for too long as reaching a common ground looks uncertain. Republicans say Biden must sign up to spending cuts in exchange for their support to raise the debt ceiling, ignoring repeated Democratic calls for a "clean" increase of the borrowing limit with no strings attached.

A White House official told reporters that a deal could be reached, but negotiations must be conducted in good faith.

As quoted by the news agency Reuters, the official said, "There are real differences between the parties on budget issues and talks will be difficult."

US debt ceiling talks resume after a temporary pause: Report

Republican South Carolina Senator Tim Scott officially entered the 2024 presidential race on Friday after he filed for his paperwork.

Scott is expected to make an announcement on Monday in his hometown in North Charleston.

"American families are starving for hope. We need to have faith. Faith in God, faith in each other, and faith in America," Scott tweeted on Thursday.

CNN, quoting sources, has reported that Scott might name his longtime aide former chief of staff Jennifer DeCasper as his campaign manager. If this happens, she would be the first Black woman to lead a Republican presidential campaign.

Scott is the lone Black Republican in the Senate. He is vying to become the second Black president after Barack Obama created history in 2008.

Scott joins the growing group of primaries who announced to take on President Joe Biden. It includes former president Donald Trump, former United Nations Ambassador Nikki Haley, former Arkansas Governor Asa Hutchinson, tech entrepreneur Vivek Ramaswamy and talk radio host Larry Elder.

Another from the Republicans, Florida Governor Ron DeSantis is widely expected to make his announcement for the presidential bid soon.

Scott began his presidential exploratory committee in April, emphasizing his evangelical faith, his race, and his experience growing up as the son of a single mother.

For the past few months, the senator has been hinting at participating in the White House race. In February, on a listening tour focused on “Faith in America,” Scott made frequent visits to several early-voting states, including Iowa, New Hampshire and South Carolina.

Scott has more than a decade of experience serving on the Charleston County Council and then a term in the South Carolina state House. He won a Charleston-area US House seat in 2010 before moving to the US Senate in 2013 after Haley, then governor of South Carolina, appointed him to succeed GOP Sen. Jim DeMint, who resigned to lead The Heritage Foundation.

According to a recent survey by Washington Post/ABC News, Scott polls in the single digits in a potential Republican primary, with Trump being the front-runner for the nomination.

Last month Scott reported that he had nearly $22 million in his Senate campaign account, which he could use for a presidential bid.

A New York jury found Trump liable for sexually abusing & defaming a former magazine columnist & ordered the ex-president to pay her $5 million in damages. Jean Carroll's accusation of rape but upheld her other complaints in the closely watched civil trial. The former U.S. President immediately rejected the verdict as a disgrace. 79-year-old Carroll sued Trump last year, alleging that he raped her in the changing room of the luxury bergdorf goodman store on Manhattan's fifth avenue in 1996. Her lawyers called to the witness stand two other women who testified that Trump sexually assaulted them decades ago. Former businesswoman Jessica Leeds said that Trump groped her in the business class section of a flight in the united states in the 1970s. Journalist Natasha Stoynoff said Trump kissed her without her consent during an interview at his mar-a-lago estate in 2005. No criminal case can stem from Carroll's lawsuit.

Trump sexually abused writer E. Jean Carroll, must pay her $5 million, jury says

A writer told a US civil trial Wednesday that an alleged sexual assault by Donald Trump three decades ago left her feeling “ashamed" and unable to have romantic relationships. “I’m here because Donald Trump raped me," E. Jean Carroll said in Manhattan’s federal court, which is hearing a defamation and battery lawsuit against the former president.

The 80-year-old president of the USA, Joe Biden, launched his re-election bid Tuesday even as polls show a considerable decline in his popularity across the country. Biden is already the oldest man ever to serve as the US president, and if he gets re-elected in the 2024 elections, he will leave the White House at the age of 86. An NBC News poll published Sunday revealed that at least 70 per cent of Americans and 51 per cent of Democrats want Biden not to seek re-election.

But the question—If not Biden, then who?—puts the entire debate to an end. As Biden embarks on a journey no one has taken before in America’s political history, let’s take a look at his political career.

How Joe Biden entered politics

Biden used to work as a clerk in 1968 at a law firm headed by prominent local Republican William Prickett. He would also claim he thought of himself as a Republican. However, later he joined a firm headed by a local Democratic leader and joined the Democratic Party. It is speculated that he didn’t join the Republican Party because he used to dislike Republican presidential candidate Richard Nixon.

In 1970, Biden successfully ran for the 4th district seat on the New Castle County Council and defeated Republican candidate Lawrence T. Messick. He served in the office till January 1, 1973.

In 1972, Biden defeated J. Caleb Boggs, a Republican incumbent, to become the junior senator from Delaware. A few weeks after his election, he lost his wife and daughter in a road accident.
In January 1973, Biden was sworn in as a senator by Secretary of the Senate Francis R. Valeo at the Delaware Division of the Wilmington Medical Centre. He was the sixth-youngest senator in American history at the age of 30.

In 1978, 1984, 1990, 1996, 2002, and 2008, Biden won Senate elections with almost 60% of the vote.
In 1988 and 2008, Biden declared his candidacy as the Democratic presidential candidate. He was forced to withdraw his nominations both times.

In 2008, Democratic Presidential candidate Barack Obama privately told Biden to play a very important role in his administration. Later, Obama announced Biden would be his running mate. Following Obama’s victory, Biden served as USA’s Vice-President from 2009 to 2017.

In 2019, Joe Biden officially launched his bid for the US presidency against Republican incumbent Donald Trump.

In November 2020, Biden defeated Donald Trump in a controversy-ridden election, and in January 2021, he became the 46th president of the US.

Now, in April 2023, Joe Biden has officially launched his re-election bid for the 2024 elections. If he is re-elected again in the upcoming elections, he will again become the oldest person to ever serve as USA’s president. He will be 82 years old on the day of his inauguration in January 2025.

Joe Biden's political career: 'Self-declared Republican' turned Democratic POTUS seeks another term

In spite of being ousted as a pathological liar, disgraced Republican politician George Santos has announced that he will once again be running for reelection in 2024. He will be representing the New York district for a second term. The congressman recently admitted to fabricating parts of his resume during his successful bid for a seat in the House of Representatives.

"Since the left is pushing radical agendas, the economy is struggling, and Washington is incapable of solving anything, we need a fighter who knows the district and can serve the people fearlessly and independent of local or national party influence," said Santos in a statement.

The indictment and other ongoing criminal investigations of Donald Trump raise the real — if still remote — prospect that a leading contender for the 2024 presidential nomination could face prison time.

Explained: Can Trump run for president from prison?

James filed the civil fraud lawsuit last September against Trump, three of his adult children, the Trump Organization and others. The suit accuses Trump of repeatedly overstating the values of his assets in statements to banks, insurance companies and the IRS in order to obtain better loan and tax terms.

One of the two recently ousted Democratic party lawmakers, Justin Jones, in Tennessee, United States has been reappointed to fill his vacant seat on an interim basis, on Monday (April 10) after a vote. The two young Black lawmakers were expelled, while the third Democrat, Gloria Johnson avoided expulsion by a single vote, last week after they staged a rule-breaking demonstration for gun control on the Republican-controlled statehouse floor.

The Metropolitan Council of Nashville and Davidson County held a vote to reinstate Jones, who on Thursday had become the first state representative ever to be expelled from the statehouse for violating the chamber’s rules on decorum without an investigation or accusations of serious misconduct. The vote which was held during a special session of the council saw unanimous support with a 36-0.

Addressing the state House of Representatives, on Monday, after being reinstated, Jones said, “I want to welcome the people back to the people’s house. I want to welcome democracy back to the people’s house.” Jones, who had been elected to Tennessee’s House of Representatives last year, has been appointed again as the interim representative.

During the Metro Council vote, there were around 600 protesters gathered outside to show their support for Jones, waving signs and chanting “Whose house? Our house!” and “No Justin, no peace”, a play on the civil rights slogan, “No justice, no peace,” reported Al-Jazeera.

Nashville city council votes to recently ousted lawmaker The Metropolitan Council of Nashville and Davidson County held a vote to reinstate Jones, who on Thursday had become the first state representative ever to be expelled from the statehouse for violating the chamber’s rules on decorum without an investigation or accusations of serious misconduct. Meanwhile, the duo has said that they will also contest in special elections in the coming months to permanently fill the seats. Our house!” and “No Justin, no peace”, a play on the civil rights slogan, “No justice, no peace,” reported Al-Jazeera. Republican Texas Governor Greg Abbott on Saturday promised to pardon a US Army sergeant who was recently convicted of shooting a protester to death during a Black Lives Matter rally at the peak of the movement in 2020 in Austin.

Republican Texas Governor Greg Abbott on Saturday promised to pardon a US Army sergeant who was recently convicted of shooting a protester to death during a Black Lives Matter rally at the peak of the movement in 2020 in Austin. Abbott took to Twitter to post a message wherein he said Sgt. Daniel Perry was acting in self-defence when the incident took place. Perry had used his .357 revolver to pump five shots into 28-year-old Garrett Foster who was attending the Austin demonstration. “Texas has one of the strongest ‘Stand Your Ground’ laws of self-defence that cannot be nullified by a jury or a progressive District Attorney,” wrote Abbott. The Republican leader said he is requesting the Texas Board of Pardons and Paroles for an expedited review of Perry. Abbott can only pardon a subject if the board recommends it. However, since the members of the board have been picked by Abbott, it looks certain that Perry will receive his pardon, said the experts. “I have made that request and instructed the board to expedite its review. I look forward to approving the board’s pardon recommendation as soon as it hits my desk.” WATCH | US: Hundreds protest for tighter gun controls after Nashville school shooting | WION Dispatch × Will reign in the DA: Abbott Abbott also blamed Perry's conviction on the county’s George Soros-backed Democrat District Attorney José Garza and added that he will be reign in the 'rogue DA'. "Additionally, I have already prioritised reining in rogue District Attorneys, and the Texas Legislature is working on laws to achieve that goal." Notably, a jury on Friday (April 7) found Perry guilty of murder - nearly three years after the shooting incident. Perry, who has previously served in Afghanistan was working as an Uber driver when he drove his car into a swarm of BLM protestors on July 25, 2020. Perry claimed that he fired at Foster after he pointed an AK-47 towards him. The prosecutors, however, argued that witnesses on the spot said Foster never raised the weapon and that he was pushing his fiancée’s wheelchair. Here is the video from the night Daniel Perry, an active duty Army Sergeant, lawfully defended himself against a BLM rioter with an AK-47 before having his right of self defense made illegal by a Soros-funded DA. US Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas was accepting luxury travel trips offered by a billionaire Republican for years, as per a report published on Thursday. The gifts included private jet flights across countries and yachting in New Zealand.

Court's longest-serving justice and a staunch conservative, Thomas went on one vacation to Indonesia that alone cost around $500,000, which was paid by real estate tycoon Harlan Crow, revealed a report by ProPublica, a non-profit news outlet.

The investigation of ProPublica was based on reviews of photographs, interviews and other documents, and the legal reform action group Fix the Court after seeing the details said that "the Supreme Court is the least accountable part of our government."

"Nothing is going to change without a wholesale, lawmaker-led reimagining of its responsibilities when it comes to basic measures of oversight," said the group's director Gabe Roth, in a statement.

The 74-year-old judge also accompanied Crow, whose relation with the justice was called "unusual and ethically sensitive" by the New York Times in 2011, for a vacation to an all-male wilderness resort located in California and to properties in New York and Texas in the last two decades.

Speaking to ProPublica, Crow said that the gifts he gave to Thomas were "no different from the hospitality we have extended to our many other dear friends," and no pending cases were ever discussed by the two.

Thomas releases statement

After the controversy snowballed, Thomas released a statement explaining his failure to disclose the trips. He said Crow and his wife Kathy were 'dearest friends' and that they had joined Crow on family trips for years.

"Early in my tenure at the Court, I sought guidance from my colleagues and others in the judiciary, and was advised that this sort of personal hospitality from close personal friends, who did not have business before the Court, was not reportable," said Thomas.

"I have endeavored to follow that counsel throughout my tenure, and have always sought to comply with the disclosure guidelines."

Judge's behaviour inconsistent with ethical standards

ProPublica claimed that Crow gave more than $10 million to Republican political groups in donations, which included half a million dollars given to a conservative lobbying group that was founded by Ginni Thomas, wife of Thomas.

The involvement of Ginni Thomas in United States politics has attracted more scrutiny after reports suggested that she was involved in the efforts made by Donald Trump to illegally overturn the 2020 presidential election's results.

In 1991, Justice Thomas was nominated for the court after he went through a confirmation process in which he faced an accusation of sexual harassment made by a former aide.

Last year, he joined the majority of judges who gave the historic ruling and overturned the national right to abortion. He also claimed that a conservative-dominated court must examine its rulings on same-sex marriage and contraception.

Responding to Thursday's report, Democratic Senator Dick Durbin said that Thomas's "behaviour is simply inconsistent with the ethical standards the American people expect of any public servant, let alone a Justice on the Supreme Court."

The media platform also shared a clip from a documentary in which Thomas claimed that he enjoyed driving around America's rural corners more than travelling to different nations.

"I don't have any problem with going to Europe, but I prefer the United States. I prefer the Walmart parking lots to the beaches and things like that. I'd come from regular stock and I prefer that,” he was heard saying in the clip.
