Narendra Modi-led NDA swept the elections and won 352 out of 542 seats in the 17th Lok Sabha elections.

As per official numbers, the BJP secured 303 seats, 22 more than its 2014 figures.

"The Supreme Court's decision has exposed the lies of the Congress president," he said.

The Congress, itself embroiled in corruption scandals, was spreading lies against the BJP and the prime minister who has been discharging his duty with complete honesty, he said.

Rahul Gandhi and his party should apologise, he demanded, saying that such a smear campaign against a prime minister was never seen earlier.

The Congress will pay for this in Lok Sabha elections, he said, seeking Rahul Gandhi's resignation as Congress chief.

"Over 4,500 farmers have committed suicide in the state and farmers are not getting Minimum Support Price for their crops. The poor haven't got two BHK houses and there is no development of the rural and urban areas," he alleged.

There was a need to undertake developmental works, Singh said.

"I can only say to Chief Minister (Rao), who just kept on making promises... Four years have passed since he made the promises and the state has been left backwards."

Singh said the election was an opportunity to 'teach a lesson to TRS' and take the message across to him that elections cannot be won on false promises, he said.

He appealed to the people to support BJP and elect the party in Telangana.

Telangana polls: Elections cannot be won on false promises; Raman Singh to Chandrasekhar Rao

All arrangements have been made for the second and final phase of the Chhattisgarh Assembly elections to be held in 72 seats of 19 districts on Tuesday amid tight security, with the deployment of over one lakh police personnel.

In the first phase, polling was held in 18 seats of eight Naxal-affected districts on November 12.

The coalition between the Mayawati-led Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP), former chief minister Ajit Jogi's Janata Congress Chhattisgarh (J) and the Communist Party of India (CPI) has added a twist to the poll battle.

Polling will be held from 8 am to 5 pm in these seats of central and north Chhattisgarh where as many as 1,079 candidates, including 72 each from the BJP and the Congress, are in fray, an election official said.

For the second phase of polls, there are 1,53,85,983 voters, including 77,46,628 men, 76,38,415 women and 940 of the third gender.

As many as 19,296 polling booths have been set up for the second phase, the official said.

The highest number of 46 contestants are in the Raipur City South constituency, while the lowest number of six contestants are in the Bindranavagarh seat.

Over one lakh security personnel have been deployed to ensure peaceful polling, a police official said.

Extra vigil is being maintained in Naxal-affected Gariaband, Dhamtari, Mahasamund, Kabirdham, Jashpur and Balrampur districts, he said.

State Assembly Speaker Gaurishankar Agrawal has been retained from the Kasdol seat, which he had won against Congress's Rajkamal Singhaniya in the 2013 elections.

Second phase of polling in Chhattisgarh on Tuesday; 1 lakh cops deployed

PM Modi today addressed a rally in <a href="http://www.wionews.com/opinions/assembly-elections-2018-voters-counter-maoist-threat-in-chhattisgarh-177306">Chhattisgarh's Ambikapur district </a>as he targeted the Congress in the poll-bound state.

"People disproved that it was the 'right of only one family' to speak from the ramparts of the Red Fort in Delhi," he said at the rally.

The prime minister said BJP's popularity is a threat to the Congress.

PM Modi applauded the people of Bastar in Chhattisgarh asserting that they gave a "strong response" to the Naxals by registering record voting percentage in the first phase of assembly polls.

"Shouldn't people of Bastar be appreciated for such high voting percentages, he asked the people in the rally, adding, "I will tell you a way to appreciate them, on November 20 you register even higher voting percentage than Bastar."

Chattishgarh recorded 70 per cent polling in the first phase held on November 12th.

"I want to challenge them, let some good leader of Congress outside of the family become the party president for five years, then I will say that Nehruji really created a truly democratic system there," he said in Ambikapur.

Taking another jibe at the Congress, the PM said: "These people still have not come to terms that I am the PM, it has been nearly four and a half years. They are still crying, how can a 'chaiwala'(tea seller) become PM? Now they say a 'chaiwala' became PM because of one great person," he declared.&nbsp;

The second phase of polling is due to take place on November 20th in the state. The polling in the first phase took place even as Naxals tried to disrupt the proceedings blasting multiple crude bombs ahead of election day and detonated an IED in Dantewada.

On November 12th, 18 seats went to polls, out of which 12 have been reserved for the Scheduled Tribes, while one is a Scheduled Caste-reserved seat. In the second and last phase, as many as 72 constituencies in the state will go to the polls.

BJP chief minister Raman Singh is hoping to retain power in the state although the Congress and Ajit Jogi's party&nbsp;Janta Congress Chhattisgarh(JCC) which has tied up with Mayawati's BSP is set to give a tough fight to the ruling party in the state.

On November 12th, 18 seats went to polls, out of which 12 have been reserved for the Scheduled Tribes, while one is a Scheduled Caste-reserved seat. In the second and last phase, as many as 72 constituencies in the state will go to the polls. Without naming UP Congress chief Raj Babbar, Adityanath said, "A leader of UP Congress had termed naxals as revolutionaries which is an insult to the martyrdom of security forces fighting Maoists".

Under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, BJP with a slogan of Sabka Saath Sabka Vikas has launched public welfare schemes for the inclusive development of people belonging to all sections of society, he said.

During the Congress rule, mining and forest mafia, cattle trafficking and naxalism were "at an all-time high" in Chhattisgarh but the BJP government contained all theses ills,he said.

"Earlier, Rs 100 released from Delhi became Rs 10 on reaching people because the remaining Rs 90 was embezzled by dalals (middlemen) of Congress. But now it has changed and Rs 100 released by the Modi government remains Rs 100 when the amount reaches people through digital payment mode," he said.

Chhattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan were considered as Bimaru states during the Congress rule, he said. "But now these states are considered among the developed states after BJP government came to power there," he said.

Congress chief Rahul Gandhi asked Tuesday why Prime Minister Narendra Modi was silent on charges of corruption against Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Raman Singh and his family.

Addressing a rally in Kharsia Assembly constituency in Raigarh district in the poll-bound state, Gandhi claimed the Prime Minister did not speak about corruption anymore.

"In civil supply scam of Rs 36,000 crore, names of Raman Singh and his wife surfaced. Rs 5,000 chit fund scam took place under the protection of the Raman Singh government," he alleged.

"His (Singh's) son Abhishek Singh was named in Panama papers scandal, but no action was taken in any of these cases," the Congress chief alleged.

"Prime minister Modi used to speak about corruption in his speeches earlier, but why he does not speak about the corruption of Raman Singh and his family? Why Raman Singh too is silent over corruption," he asked.

The ruling BJP has denied the allegations of corruption against the chief minister and his family.

Gandhi campaigned for Congress candidate and incumbent MLA from Kharsia, Umesh Patel, Tuesday.

Patel's father Nandkumar Patel, then state Congress chief, was killed in a Naxal attack in Jhiram valley in Bastar's Darbha area on May 25, 2013.

Remembering Nandkumar Patel, Gandhi accused Modi of insulting the martyrdom of Congress leaders who died in the Naxal attack.

He was apparently referring to the prime minister's recent speech in Bastar where he had accused Congress leaders of supporting urban Naxals.

The Congress chief reiterated his allegation that the Modi government took away the Rafale fighter jets contract from the state-run Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) and gave it to industrialist Anil Ambani.

"Modi ji handed over Rs 30,000 crore to Anil Ambani which was your money," Gandhi claimed.

Both the government as well as Ambani have denied the allegations of grant of undue favour to Ambani's firm in the Rafale deal.

The Congress president promised loan waiver to farmers in the state.

"After the Congress government is formed in the state, we will waive the loans of farmers within ten days," he said.

Why is PM mum on corruption chages against Raman Singh: Rahul Gandhi

Voting began in several Naxal-hit areas in&nbsp;Chhattisgarh with poll officials making elaborate security arrangements deploying upto one lakh personnel.

There are 18 seats mostly in the Naxal belt where polls will be held&nbsp;today. The Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), Border Security Force (BSF) and Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) personnel have already been put in place to secure the poll booths.

Despite the heavy security, in the last ten&nbsp;days&nbsp;over 300 IEDs have been&nbsp;recovered from the Bastar region and Rajnandgaon district by security forces. On Sunday, a BSF personnel was injured when Naxals detonated an IED&nbsp;in Chhattisgarh's Kanker district.

The fortunes of the 90 members due to be elected will be keenly followed in the runup to the general elections a few months away. Chhattisgarh has over 1.85 crore registered voters.&nbsp;There are 10 seats reserved for Scheduled Castes.

Janata Congress Chhattisgarh(JCC) supremo Ajit Jogi, who was the first chief minister of Chhattisgarh in 2000, has tied up with BSP chief Mayawati to give the ruling BJP a fight at the hustings. Speaking to media, Singh, who has been governing the state for 15 years said, "Nearly 90 assemblies were discussed. District presidents, MPs also gave recommendations regarding names. A panel of probable candidates has been made in every assembly, which will now be sent to the Central Election Committee in Delhi.&nbsp;On October 19-20, the names of all the 90 seats will be announced".

The nominations can be filed till October 23, and the scrutiny of the relevant submitted papers will be on October 24. The candidates can withdraw their names by October 26.

While the regional outfit of former chief minister Ajit Jogi, who has entered into a pre-poll alliance with Mayawati`s Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP), and the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) have already declared their candidates, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the Congress are yet to announce their contestants.

On Tuesday, nine personnel of the 212 Battalion of the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) were killed and two severely injured in the IED blast.The CRPF jawans were conducting an operation in a forest in the district when the blast took place, ripping apart their Mine-Protected Vehicle (MPV).

Meanwhile, the wreath-laying ceremony of the nine jawans was held earlier this morning, where the two ministers paid their tributes to the slain soldiers.&nbsp;

On Tuesday, nine personnel of the 212 Battalion of the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) were killed and two severely injured in the IED blast.The CRPF jawans were conducting an operation in a forest in the district when the blast took place, ripping apart their Mine-Protected Vehicle (MPV). The 106-year-old died at the Raipur&#39;s Ambedkar Hospital at 10:40 am.

She was suffering from a prolonged illness and was admitted to the hospital after Chief Minister Raman Singh&#39;s direction.

While inaugurating Shyama Prasad Mukherji Rurban Mission in 2016 in Chhattisgarh, Prime Minister Modi honored her for her efforts in free open defecation mission.

Kunwar Bai had sold her goats for about 22,000 and utilised the money to construct a toilet at her home for her daughter-in-law and granddaughter as she did not want them to face difficulties.&nbsp;

She also spread awareness about the importance of using toilets in other villages.

Kunwar Bai was also appointed as the Swachhta Doot by the state government.&nbsp;

In the hospital, she expressed her desire to meet chief minister Raman Sigh after which he called&nbsp;her over a video call.&nbsp;

He made this statement while briefing media about the discussion on the motion of thanks on the Governor`s address in the Assembly on Friday evening.

Singh said the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) returned to power thrice in the state due to its development agenda.&quot;BJP`s government in Chhattisgarh did not come to power in 2003, 2008, 2013 just because the Congress was weak but because development is the BJP`s top agenda.

If the Congress leaders read the figures that I have presented in the Assembly then they would realize that Chhattisgarh`s growth is historic in every field,&quot; Singh said.

The Chief Minister said the Congress leaders do not realize that 36 lakh people have been benefitted by Ujjawala Yojna and 11 lakh people by home scheme in the state.

He lambasted the Congress and said it has been marginalized in the country due to the hegemony of one family (Gandhi family) in the party.

&quot;With 274 members of parliament, government in 19 states; the BJP is the largest party in the country.

On the other hand, the Congress is present in only 7 percent of India. The reason for this is the single family rule in the Congress,&quot; Singh said.He said that today he did not speak much in the Assembly as the Budget would be presented on Saturday and will speak after that.

State&#39;s revenue minister Prem Prakash Pandey had said earlier that the CD was fake. Citing a local news channel he added that even the news channel has said that the CD was tampered with.&nbsp;&nbsp;

He said that the&nbsp;matter seems to be a &quot;political and criminal conspiracy&quot; and therefore needed a CBI investigation because it was a result of a conspiracy planted by Congress.&nbsp;

Claiming that the state minister cannot influence a CBI probe Pandey&nbsp;also hinted that the&nbsp;PWD Minister Rajesh Munot, allegedly involved in the row, will not step down from his post.

Munot had earlier demanded that the CD be examined for its genuineness and action to be taken against those found involved in the conspiracy.

Chhattisgarh chief minister holds emergency meeting over Sukma attack

A day after the Gujarat assembly amended the Gujarat Animal Preservation Act of 1954 that gives life imprisonment for cow slaughter, Chhattisgarh chief minister Raman Singh has said that he will hang those who kill cows.

&quot;We will hang whoever kills a cow,&quot; the chief minister said when asked by reporters in Bastar whether a strict law will be framed against cow slaughter in the state.

Slaughter of cow, buffalo, bull, bullock, calf, and possession of their meat is banned in Chhattisgarh.&nbsp;

Talking to the Indian Express after the amendment was passed in Gujarat, chief minister Vijay Rupani said that while he was &quot;not against any food&quot;, he wanted to make Gujarat &quot;shakahari&quot; (vegetarian).&nbsp;

The remarks come at a time when Uttar Pradesh chief minister Aditya Nath Yogi has directed that the ban on cow smuggling be enforced and action taken against illegal abattoirs.

The chief minister has, however, assured that abattoirs operating legally will not be touched. &quot;The illegal abattoirs would be closed down,&quot; he had said while addressing a civic reception in Gorakhpur.
