During the meeting, the Indian minister reportedly told his Chinese counterpart that the two nations need to move from disengagement to de-escalation along their de facto border in the Himalayas, known as the Line of Actual Control (LAC).

Indian defence ministry noted that this was the first meeting of the two ministers following the recent disengagement agreements and the meeting of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and&nbsp;Chinese President Xi Jinping on the sidelines of the BRICS summit in Kazan, Russia.

“We need to focus on cooperation rather than conflict,” Singh told&nbsp;Dong Jun.

"Rajnath Singh emphasised and looked forward to greater trust and confidence building between the two sides through de-escalation. Both sides agreed to work together towards a roadmap for rebuilding mutual trust and understanding," said the statement issued by the defence ministry.

The last meeting between Indian Defence Minister Rajnath Singh and his Chinese counterpart was in April 2023 in India. At that time, the then-Chinese Defence Minister Li Shangfu had travelled to Delhi for the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation or SCO Defence Ministers' meeting.

Speaking during a Facebook video interaction organised by a Canadian MP to mark Gurupurab or the 551st birth anniversary of Guru Nanak, Trudeau had said Canada will always be there to defend the right of peaceful protest.

With India, at the icy mountains of Himalayas, the situation remains tensed even as Chinese forces continue the build-up despite multiple rounds of diplomatic and military talks.

The Indian defence minister lauded the strong response by the Indian forces so far while dealing with an aggressive China, especially at the Galwan valley.&nbsp;

He said, "In these testing times our forces" have shown "exemplary courage and remarkable fortitude" and "they fought the PLA with utmost bravery and forced them to go back." Adding, "The coming generations of this nation will be proud of what our forces have managed to achieve this year."

Ten Rafale jets have been delivered to India so far and five of them stayed back in France for imparting training to IAF pilots.

The delivery of all 36 aircraft is scheduled to be completed by the end of 2021.

A second batch of four to five Rafale jets are likely to arrive in India by November.

The Rafale jets are India's first major acquisition of fighter planes in 23 years after the Sukhoi jets were imported from Russia.

The Rafale jets are capable of carrying a range of potent weapons.

European missile maker MBDA's Meteor beyond visual range air-to-air missile and Scalp cruise missile will be the mainstay of the weapons package of the Rafale jets.

Meteor is a next generation beyond visual range air-to-air missile (BVRAAM) designed to revolutionise air-to-air combat.

The weapon has been developed by MBDA to combat common threats facing the UK, Germany, Italy, France, Spain and Sweden.

The Russian side has already "speed up" the delivery "as much as possible" but for that kind of a "sophisticated system, we are making it as early as we can, because India's ministry of defence long back requested us to speed up", the source explained.&nbsp;

I am fully satisfied with my discussions." Singh, who arrived in Bangkok on Friday with a delegation, was received by Air Chief marshal Chewchan Ruddit, Special Advisor to the office of the Permanent Secretary for Defense, MoD Thailand.

"The defence cooperation between ASEAN and India has its own importance. I want to appreciate Thailand for hosting and chairing this summit. I am sure that we will be having a very fruitful discussion and it will be beneficial for all the ASEAN member countries", Singh said in Bangkok.

Additionally, he expressed the desire to talk about sustainable security.&nbsp; 
 
"Security can only be successful if it is sustainable," the minister added.

The delegation also plans to address concerns regarding terrorism, disaster management, and coastal security. According to Singh, cooperation with ASEAN is key to the success of India's Act East policy.

"The summit will also help in building strategic trust between the leaders of the Asia Pacific through proper communication. Also, cooperation between the militaries of the ASEAN member countries will be strengthened," Singh added.

Earlier in the day, while leaving for France on a three-day visit, the defence minister said he is looking forward to deepening ties with the country.

"Leaving New Delhi for Paris on a three-day visit to France. Shall attend the Annual Defence Dialogue and the Induction Ceremony of Rafale. India-France bilateral relations have made tremendous progress in recent years. Looking forward to further and deepen these ties," he stated in a tweet.

During his visit, he will receive the first of 36 Rafale fighter jets manufactured for India.

On October 8, the Defence Minister is scheduled to meet the French President Emmanuel Macron.

Though the Rafale planes would be officially inducted into the Indian Air Force (IAF) with the Defence Minister's visit, they would start arriving in India only in May 2020 after training of pilots and personnel on it.

From the IAF, newly appointed Vice Chief Air Marshal HS Arora is scheduled to accompany the Defence Minister for receiving the aircraft.

After the meeting, Singh will proceed to Bordeaux to participate in the Rafale fighter jet handing-over ceremony at Merignac along with the French Minister of Armed Forces Florence Parly.

Singh will also perform the 'Shastrapuja'&nbsp;on the auspicious occasion of Vijayadashami and fly a sortie in the Rafale fighter jet.&nbsp;

Defence Minister Rajnath Singh on Saturday asserted that minorities in India were safe, are safe and will remain safe, adding that the country does not divide people on the basis of caste or religion.

Addressing an event of Bharatiya Veer Jawan Trust in Surat, Singh hit out at Pakistan saying that the country which is not able to provide security to the minorities on its soil, talks about the human rights.

"Pakistan, which isn't able to provide security to the minorities in its country, is talking about human rights. If human rights violations are taking place anywhere, it's in Pakistan. The minority in India was safe, is safe, and will remain safe," he said.

Singh also said while the population of minorities in India has increased after Independence, human rights violations keep taking place in Pakistan against Sikhs, Buddhists and others.

Asserting that Pakistan did not like the development and progress of India, he said, "Article 370 was abrogated but Pakistan did not digest it well. It went to the United Nations and started lying to deceive international organisation. Pakistan is talking about human Rights Commission when it could not protect minorities in its own land."

Singh continued, "Human Rights violations are taking place in Pakistan. It is taking place on Baloch people, Hindus, Sikhs, Jains, and Buddhists. Pakistan is trying to defame India by talking about human rights at the international organisation. But nobody agrees with Pakistan."

Differentiating about the situation of minorities in India and Pakistan, Singh said," After partition, the population of minorities in Pakistan have ever since been falling but I can say with full confidence that the population of minorities in India has increased. Minorities have always been secure in India, they are and they will be in the future."

He added, "I want to say to Pakistan that India was divided on the basis of religion during the partition and it was made possible by those who made Pakistan and have the ideology to do politics of religion. India does not believe in the politics of caste and religion. It believes in humanity and justice."

The Defence Minister cautioned Pakistan saying, "In 1971, Pakistan which was formed on the basis of religion was divided into two parts. If politics based on religion carry on in Pakistan then no one can prevent it from getting divided into several parts... If Pakistan does not stop supporting terrorism then it cannot be denied that it will be divided into several parts."

"I have clearly stated that if talks take place between India and Pakistan, then it will be on Pakistan Occupied Kashmir (PoK)," he said.

Cautioning Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan, he said, "Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan in PoK said to his soldiers don't go to LoC till I ask you. I want to say that he gave good advice to his soldiers as our soldiers are waiting and those who cross the LoC will not be able to go back."

Singh's statement came days after Khan while speaking in Muzaffarabad, had urged the people of his country not to march toward the LoC until he asks them to."Looking at our security forces I can say with full confidence that no one can harm our country both from internally and externally," he added.&nbsp;

The letter was seized during nationwide raids conducted by the Pune police in connection with the case following which these activists were arrested, he said.

The Pune police recently filed its charge sheet against five activists - Surendra Gadling, Shoma Sen, Mahesh Raut, Rona Wilson and Sudhir Dhavale, who were arrested in June.

The letter in question, dated September 25, 2017, is addressed to Surendra (who police claim is Surendra Gadling) by one comrade Prakash, the official said.

A portion of the letter reads, "We must intensify nationwide protests using students. State forces will be soft against students which will gradually put the state at a disadvantage while acting against us. Congress leaders are very much willing to assist in this process and have also agreed to fund further agitations.... In this regard, you can contact our friend at (the phone number of Digvijaya Singh as per police)".

A senior official associated with the probe said the letter had been made part of the charge sheet and is under investigation.

Asked if Digvijaya Singh would be summoned for questioning, senior police officer in Pune Suhas Bavche said several numbers had cropped up in the letters seized during the raids and the ownership of these numbers and their roles in the case are being probed.

"If someone's role is established, whatever is needed to be done as part of the investigation, will be done," Bavche said.

Shivaji Bodakhe, Joint Commissioner of Police (Law and order) informed that, as of now, no notice had been issued to any one.

The prosecution had yesterday told court that charges related to "sedition and waging war against the state" had been added against all the accused arrested for Maoist links in connection with the Elgar Parishad.

Government pleader Ujjwala Pawar had told court yesterday that sections 124 (A) (sedition), 121 (waging or attempting to wage war) and 121 (A) (conspiracy) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) had been added to the charge sheet.

The Elgar Parishad was held on December 31, 2017 in Pune to commemorate 200 years of the 1818 Koregaon Bhima battle in which East India Company forces, comprising a large number of Dalit soldiers, defeated the Peshwa army.

He said that the police officials should pay more attention towards this."If someone comes to the police station to lodge a complaint, can`t we talk to them politely? If a complainant is waiting for hours, can`t we ask them for water?" Singh asked.

Singh`s comments came while addressing the gathering on the occasion of the flagging off a fleet of 300 modified motorcycles-- Raftaar of Delhi Police--to tackle street crimes and make the city safer for women.

The Home Minister also asked the Delhi Police to become a role model for other states Police forces. He also asked it to take stern action against those involved in criminal activities.

Singh said, "I will ask Police Commissioner to ensure arrangements of tea stalls for complainants at police stations if possible and the Home Ministry will provide funds for it. Why can`t police personnel present themselves as role models?"

Speaking about enhancing the strength of the police, Singh said that the Home Ministry is considering filling up 12,000 posts out of which approval has been given for the recruitment of 4,000 posts.

The Home Minister said that 300 more such modified motorcycles would be inducted soon in the Delhi Police for better patrolling.These motorcycles are equipped with modern communications technology, GPS and alarm system.

With the deployment and pulling out of Central Armed Police Forces (CAPF) in the states often becoming a tug-of-war between the Centre and state governments, the Centre has now clearly stated that CAPFs &ldquo;cannot substitute the state police force&rdquo; since their deployment is related to emergent or unforeseen crises.

This comes in the backdrop of an ongoing standoff between the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) and the West Bengal government over the pulling out of central forces from the hill town of Darjeeling which has witnessed unrest for the past few weeks over demands of creation of a separate state.

In the past, too, there have been many instances where the Centre has found itself in situations where state governments have contested its decisions over either deployment or pulling out of central forces.

The Centre has now decided to set-up a state-level committee to examine and scrutinize the requirements of CAPF by keeping in view the internal security, previous scale of deployment, optimal utilisation of state resources, intelligence inputs and the availability of CAPFs in nearby locations.

This committee will be headed by ADG (Law &amp; Order) of the state and will co-op local representatives of the Intelligence Bureau and the CAPFs at the DIG/Commandant level.

&ldquo;The recommendation of the Committee must be specific and indicate the quantum of CAPF deployment and duration along with justification. Requests for extension of deployment and increase in the quantum must also be examined by the Committee on similar lines,&rdquo; the MHA has told the state governments.

Arguing its case, the Centre has said that &ldquo;state governments often make requests to the Centre for deployment of CAPFs even for occasions where State should normally be in a position to take all security measures from their own resources by dispatching police and state armed police&rdquo; and are &ldquo;are reluctant to de-induct CAPFs and keep requesting for extension which should not ordinarily be made unless there are adequate security for their extension&rdquo;.

With the new Standard Operating Procedures in place, the Centre hopes that the CAPFs will &ldquo;be able to meet more pressing commitments like guarding borders, fighting insurgency, anti-naxal operations and related situations which need immediate mobilization of forces&rdquo;.

During a terse speech in Islamabad, Singh said that there should&nbsp;be strongest of action not only against terrorists but also against organisations, individuals and nations which support terror. He said mere condemnation of terrorism and individual acts by terrorists was not enough as far as India was concerned. 
 
Launching a veiled attack on Pakistan for glorifying Hizbul commander Burhan Wani as a martyr, Singh said that there should be no glorification of terrorists, adding there is no good or bad terrorism. 
 
The ongoing strain in Indo-Pak relations was evident when Singh came face- to-face with Chaudhary Nisar Ali Khan for the first time today. The two leaders barely shook hands at the entrance of the venue of the conference at the posh Serena Hotel. 
 
Singh arrived in Islamabad yesterday amid protests by supporters of the Hizbul Mujahideen and the Harkat ul Mujahideen. The protests were held at a distance of about 10 kilometres from the&nbsp;National Assembly. Hizbul Mujahideen chief Syed Salahuddin was also present during the protests.

India&#39;s home minister will travel to Pakistan next week for a one-day regional meeting, New Delhi said today, as tensions flare between the nuclear-armed rivals over unrest in disputed Kashmir. 
 
Rajnath Singh will attend a meeting of home ministers from countries belonging to the South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (SAARC) in Islamabad, but will not hold a one-on-one with his Pakistani counterpart, the Indian foreign ministry said. It comes days after India lashed out at Pakistan, accusing its neighbour of fanning violent protests in Indian-administered Kashmir that have claimed more than 50 lives this month.&nbsp; 
 
&quot;There is no such proposal (for a bilateral meeting),&quot; foreign ministry spokesman Vikas Swarup said in New Delhi. &quot;We want a peaceful, cooperative relation with Pakistan. We are prepared to discuss all outstanding issues with Pakistan, but in an atmosphere free of terror and violence,&quot; he said, without specifying which issues would be raised in the August 4 meeting. 
 
The SAARC group includes India, Pakistan, Nepal, the Maldives, Sri Lanka, Bhutan, Afghanistan and Bangladesh. In a surprise move last December, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi paid a visit to his Pakistani counterpart Nawaz Sharif with a view to restarting a stalled dialogue. But planned peace talks were postponed after seven Indian soldiers died when an air base came under attack in January, which New Delhi blamed on a banned Pakistan-based group. 
 
Indian-administered Kashmir has seen massive protests since the killing on July 8 of popular young rebel leader Burhan Wani in a gunfight with soldiers. Kashmir has been divided between India and Pakistan since the rivals won independence from British rule in 1947. Both claim the territory in full.&nbsp;
