Chelsea and Burnley could face Football Association action following angry touchline exchanges in Monday's <a href="https://www.wionews.com/sports/chelsea-held-2-2-by-burnley-denting-champions-league-hopes-212835">2-2 Premier League draw at Stamford Bridge</a>.

Chelsea are expected to lodge a formal complaint over comments allegedly addressed by Burnley coaching staff to Blues manager Maurizio Sarri, who was later sent off by referee Kevin Friend.

There was also a flare-up between the teams in the tunnel following the final whistle.

Sarri did not attend the post-match media conference and assistant manager Gianfranco Zola, asked if Chelsea would contact the FA over his fellow Italian's frustrations, replied: "I think there will be a follow (up) on that. Maurizio felt very unhappy.

"We understand it's a football game. You say words because of the adrenaline, but he wasn't particularly happy.

"If Maurizio said that, probably it's something that could have been avoided."

Disciplinary action by the FA, English football's governing body, now appears inevitable although officials are likely to first examine Friend's match report before deciding if further measures are needed.

A tunnel melee at full-time saw Chelsea's David Luiz squaring up to Ashley Westwood, while Antonio Rudiger clashed with Burnley goalkeeping coach Billy Mercer.

'Laugh in your face'

Brazil defender Luiz meanwhile was unhappy that his early efforts to make Friend aware of what he said were Burnley's delaying tactics initially fell on deaf ears, although Clarets goalkeeper Tom Heaton was booked for time-wasting in the 32nd minute.

"It is difficult when you see a referee even laugh in your face when you try to speak with him in a respectful way, it is not nice," Luiz told Chelsea's website.

"When I was trying to speak with him he was never looking in my eyes and he was not trying to listen, he just said, 'I don't want to listen to you, shut up and play the game'."

The draw saw Chelsea lose ground in the race for a top-four finish while all but assuring Burnley of Premier League survival as they reached 40 points for the season.

Jeff Hendrick gave Burnley an eighth-minute lead in west London only for Chelsea's N'Golo Kante and Gonzalo Higuain to have made it 2-1 to the home side by the 14th minute.

But Ashley Barnes made it 2-2 before the match was overshadowed by the fractious scenes shortly after full-time.

Burnley boss played down the incidents involving the two benches as "handbags", having spoken to Zola at half-time to ask Sarri not to encroach into the Clarets' technical area.

"I know Zola a bit, he's a fantastic fella, and I've always got on with him," Dyche said.

"He said at half-time he (Sarri) is not quite getting it. I said he was going over into my box.

"He just said he didn't quite get the reality of it, the technical areas are bigger in Italy.

"I said fine, and accepted it."

Chelsea and Burnley wait on FA after touchline clashes

Chelsea manager Maurizio Sarri has been charged with misconduct for his behaviour during Monday's 2-2 Premier League draw with Burnley, the English Football Association said.

The Chelsea coach was sent to the stands by referee Kevin Friend after becoming embroiled in a scuffle amongst players on the touchline in the dying moments of the game at Stamford Bridge.

Sarri did not carry out his post-match media duties, sending assistant coach Gianfranco Zola to fill in for him instead.

Zola told reporters at the time that Sarri had sought to get his players out of the scuffle but the referee had "misinterpreted" his intentions and that the Chelsea manager had been offended by a comment from the Burnley bench.

"Maurizio Sarri has been charged with misconduct in relation to his behaviour in the 94th minute of Monday's Premier League fixture between Chelsea and Burnley," the FA said in a statement on Wednesday.

Pep Guardiola has dismissed suggestions by Manchester United counterpart Ole Gunnar Solskjaer that his <a href="https://www.google.com/url?q=https://www.wionews.com/sports/title-top-four-and-pride-at-stake-in-massive-manchester-derby-212838&amp;sa=U&amp;ved=0ahUKEwj_4br8iOjhAhUs7XMBHdFdAa0QFggFMAA&amp;client=internal-uds-cse&amp;cx=006054055338965708568:09spwrlibei&amp;usg=AOvVaw2-iqXJ358RhAHAvEcbK8JA">Manchester City</a> players use tactical fouls high up the pitch to disrupt their opponents' rhythm and stop them from launching counterattacks.

Speaking ahead of Wednesday's Premier League Manchester derby, Solskjaer warned United that City would press hard and foul them in areas of the pitch where they were less likely to receive yellow cards.

"We've got to be ready for their pressing so we've got to defend well, got to be ready for (their) aggression, they will snap at your heels and kick you," Solskjaer said. "There will be fouls, absolutely no doubt about it."

"You don't get the yellow cards (there), do you? But that's just because they commit so many players forward and you can clearly see that they've got them in that mould of trying to win the ball back, and they do make fouls", he said.

Guardiola said Solskjaer's comments could be viewed as an attempt to influence referee Andre Marriner, who will be in charge of the game at Old Trafford.

"That is the reason why, of course," the Spaniard told reporters. "But I don't think it will be successful because we don't do it."

"My side is not built like that, not at all. In 10 seasons as a manager, I never prepared for a game thinking about these things. Never'', he added.

"In football, you sometimes (foul) because the actions are so fast. But I never said we should do it to punish an opponent or cancel them", the United boss said.

City are two points behind leaders Liverpool in the race for the Premier League title and winning their game in hand at sixth-placed United will lift them to the top of the standings with three games remaining.

Gianfranco Zola explains Maurizio Sarri's no-show at press conference after Burnley draw

Even by the rarified atmosphere of Manchester derbies, there will seldom have been so much on the line for both sides of the city when Manchester United host Manchester City on Wednesday.

For City, the Premier League title is at stake with Pep Guardiola's men needing to win their remaining four matches to be sure of becoming the first side since United a decade ago to retain the title.

Those days of dominance are long gone for the Red Devils with just a place in the top four and Champions League qualification their target.

However, United also have to restore some sense of pride after a 4-0 thrashing at Everton on Sunday.&nbsp;

Defeat at Goodison Park was United's sixth in eight games, a run that has seen them crash out of the Champions League and FA Cup, as well as slip back down to sixth in the Premier League.

But with Tottenham, Arsenal and Chelsea also faltering, they remain just three points off the top four.

The momentum and feel good factor built up by Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's first few months in charge has gone.

Now the Norwegian, only hired on a permanent basis last month, has to show he has the ability to arrest the slump even before a major restructure of his squad takes place in the summer.

Solskjaer questioned the work rate and desire of some of his players on Sunday, making it clear that big changes are needed.

However, he is clinging to the hope that those he currently has to call on will be shocked into a short-term response.

"Against City at Old Trafford on Wednesday, that's the biggest incentive we can have," said Solskjaer after the Everton embarrassment.

"Old Trafford at home, in front of our fantastic fans, they were unbelievable again and they never ever moaned at our players, which they could have, but they've been supportive and I'm sure they will be on Wednesday night."

Yet, there is a dilemma even for United fans keen to halt City's rise.

Should City fail to win at Old Trafford, Liverpool -- historically United's fiercest rivals -- will be just three games away from a first league title in 29 years.

Liverpool have already set their highest ever points tally in the Premier League era of 88 to lead City by two points.

However, Guardiola's men have a game in hand and should they move top once more with a win on Wednesday, would just need to see off Burnley, Leicester and Brighton to guarantee the title.

"With this Liverpool side, our side we know if we lose what happens," warned Guardiola.

City's quest for a quadruple of trophies fell short by the finest of margins as they lost on away goals to Tottenham in the quarter-finals of the Champions League last week.

However, they can still claim an unprecedented domestic treble by winning the league and FA Cup over the next month to go with their League Cup win in February.

"I love my team being there," added Guardiola.

"I am not going to criticise them because we are out (of the Champions League). I see every day what we have done over the past two seasons, they show me character every three days.

"I have good players, but they have to do it. And when people expect them to do it, it's harder to do it. That's why we push them but they respond really well. I love my team."

City gained a small measure of revenge on Spurs with a 1-0 league win on Saturday, but victory came at a cost with Kevin de Bruyne unlikely to play again this season due to a hamstring injury.

Title, top four and pride at stake in massive Manchester derby

Brighton &amp; Hove Albion players cannot be accused of not caring about retaining their Premier League status as they look to avoid the drop with four games left in the season, manager Chris Hughton said on Monday.

The south-coast club sit three points above the relegation zone but have endured a severe dip in form in 2019, winning only two of their last 14 league games to fall from 13th to 17th in the standings.

Brighton have also failed to score in their last five league matches, including the 0-0 draw at Wolverhampton Wanderers on Saturday.

"I don't think anybody could accuse a group of players at Wolves on Saturday of it not meaning enough or downing tools," Hughton told reporters ahead of Tuesday's trip to Tottenham Hotspur. "Absolutely that's not the case.

"We're a team of our level playing in the Premier League and, up until probably the last month or so, we've been in a decent enough position in the league.

"Probably our poorest period came at the worst time, but that happens when you're playing in a division as difficult as this one and when you are the level of club that we are.

"We have to find formulas and pull out results to get the points that we need."

Hughton, who spent over two decades as a player at Tottenham, said he was looking forward to playing at the new White Hart Lane stadium which opened this month.

"I was there all in all for 27 years and I have lots of memories as a player and as a coach," Hughton said.

"I'm looking forward to going there. How much I'll enjoy it will be down to the performance the team put in but I'm hoping I can enjoy it."

Three points ahead of 18th-placed Cardiff City, Brighton end the season with games against Newcastle United on Saturday, Arsenal and Manchester City.

Hughton, who spent over two decades as a player at Tottenham, said he was looking forward to playing at the new White Hart Lane stadium which opened this month. "I was there all in all for 27 years and I have lots of memories as a player and as a coach," Hughton said. "I'm looking forward to going there. How much I'll enjoy it will be down to the performance the team put in but I'm hoping I can enjoy it." Three points ahead of 18th-placed Cardiff City, Brighton end the season with games against Newcastle United on Saturday, Arsenal and Manchester City.

Unai Emery believes 'top four in Arsenal's hands'

Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer apologised to fans and said <a href="https://www.wionews.com/sports/manchester-united-thrashed-4-0-by-everton-in-fresh-blow-to-top-four-hopes-212446">Sunday's 4-0 loss to Everton</a> showed that his team was far away from the standard needed to compete at the top of the Premier League table.

United have now lost five straight away games in all competitions for the first time since 1981 and have lost six of their last eight matches with their hopes of qualification for next year's Champions League fading with the latest loss.

"We’re way off where we want to be. When you lose in the league like we did here, everyone sees that we have a big job to do," said Solskjaer.

"This club has been down before, we’ve just got to pick ourselves up. It might not happen overnight, but it's going to happen.

"We know it's a big task and there is work to be done. We have to do it together, we have to get on with it because this is not good enough," added the Norwegian.

The performance at sun-blessed Goodison Park lacked any of the spark, enthusiasm and confidence of the early Solskjaer reign and was described by former captain Gary Neville as "rancid".

From the moment Brazilian Richarlison volleyed Everton ahead in the 13th minute, United were second best in every area.

Everton were 2-0 up at the break and never looked in danger of allowing United back into the game. Solskjaer's side did not force Everton goalkeeper Jordan Pickford into action with a short on target until the 86th minute.

Everton loss 'not worthy of a Manchester United team': Solskjaer

Manchester United's hopes of Champions League football next season suffered another huge blow as Everton romped to a 4-0 win at Goodison Park on Sunday.

A sixth defeat in eight games in all competitions for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's men means they remain two points adrift of the top four in sixth.

Everton, chasing seventh, which could provide a route into next season's Europa League, made a flying start as Richarlison and Gylfi Sigurdsson struck inside the first 28 minutes.

Lucas Digne's sweet strike and Theo Walcott's goal completed Everton's biggest win over United since 1984.&nbsp;

United could easily fall five points off the Champions League places should Arsenal beat Crystal Palace at home later on Sunday and Chelsea win when they host Burnley on Monday.

Solskjaer's task in turning United's fortunes around does not get any easier as title-chasing Manchester City visit Old Trafford on Wednesday.

Manchester United thrashed 4-0 by Everton in fresh blow to top four hopes

Arsenal's bid for a top four finish in the Premier League suffered a major setback as Crystal Palace punished their sluggish display to claim a shock 3-2 win on Sunday.

Unai Emery's side paid the price for a defensive horror show at the Emirates Stadium to leave their hopes of qualifying for the Champions League via the domestic route hanging in the balance.

The Gunners, who can also reach the competition by winning the Europa League, fell behind to Christian Benteke's first goal for a year before Mesut Ozil equalised early in the second half.

Shkodran Mustafi's blunder allowed Wilfried Zaha to put Palace back in front.

James McArthur took advantage of more woeful Arsenal defending to make it three and, although Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang reduced the deficit, it was too late to stop Palace's first league win at Arsenal since October 1994.

Arsenal sit in fourth place, level on points with Chelsea, who will go above them if they avoid defeat against Burnley on Monday.

Arsenal's top four challenge had been fuelled by their impressive home form and their first league loss at the Emirates since the opening weekend of the season was hugely damaging.

Arsenal had won 12 of their last 13 home games in all competitions, but the end of that streak puts them in the tricky position of needing to improve their dismal away record when they travel to Wolves and Leicester this week.

Emery made seven changes from Thursday's Europa League quarter-final win at Napoli in a bid to freshen up his side and, as a result, Arsenal never looked in sync.&nbsp;

They were authors of their own downfall when Palace took the lead in the 17th minute.

Benteke won a free-kick wide on the right and when it was curled in, Mustafi and Konstantinos Mavropanos both stood watching as Benteke thundered past them to head home from close-range.

It was the much-maligned Benteke's first goal since he scored against Leicester in April 2018, ending the Belgian striker's 19-game drought in his 200th Premier League appearance.

Mustafi was guilty of appealing for offside rather than following Benteke for the goal and the centre-back produced another costly miscue moments later when he headed over from close-range.

Day to forget

It was that kind of afternoon for Arsenal, who felt Palace's Aaron Wan-Bissaka should have conceded a penalty when he blocked a cross with his hands.

Zaha says he wants to leave to play in the Champions League next season and the forward gave a glimpse of his class when he accelerated away for a cross that Benteke ballooned over the bar.

Emery sent on Alex Iwobi and Ainsley Maitland-Niles at half-time, and the changes helped Arsenal draw level two minutes after the restart.

Iwobi slipped a pass to Alexandre Lacazette on the edge of the area and the Arsenal forward picked out Ozil, who beat Vicente Guaita with a fine strike at his near post.

But Mustafi's day to forget hit a new low in the 61st minute as Palace went back in front after another mistake from the German.

When Benteke flicked a header towards the Arsenal area, Mustafi seemed unware of Zaha's presence behind him.

Holding out his arms to indicate the ball would run to keeper Bernd Leno, he bizarrely allowed the Ivorian to run past him and clip a cool finish into the far corner.

Shell-shocked Arsenal crumbled again as Palace made it three in the 69th minute.

Having already won at Manchester City in December, Roy Hodgson's side were on course for another famous scalp when Scott Dann nodded goalwards and McArthur headed past Leno.

Aubameyang capped an incisive burst with his 24th goal of the season in the 77th minute.

But it was too late to spare Arsenal's blushes as Matteo Guendouzi wasted their last chance with a weak finish.

Arsenal's top four bid rocked by Crystal Palace

Liverpool regained their place at the top of the Premier League with a 2-0 win at Cardiff City on Sunday that restored their two-point lead over Manchester City.

Juergen Klopp's side, who have lost just once in the league all season, have 88 points, a club record in the Premier League era, while City, who beat Tottenham Hotspur 1-0 on Saturday, are on 86 but have a game in hand.

That extra game for City will be played on Wednesday when Pep Guardiola's side travel to Old Trafford to face Manchester United and the champions will make the short trip with the pressure firmly back on.

Against a Cardiff side battling for Premier League survival, it was a confident, patient performance from Liverpool who have now enjoyed nine straight wins in all competitions.

"It was prepared to be a proper banana skin and we knew that, the boys were unbelievable. It was clear, difficult for all of us," said Klopp.

"The boys try really with all they have, we only speak about the things we have to do."

"Their attitude is outstanding and it's a tough season but a very positive one as well," added the German.

Cardiff defended deep and in numbers and limited Liverpool's opportunities but Roberto Firmino missed a great chance to open the scoring in the 22nd minute, finding himself one-on-one with keeper Neil Etheridge but lifting the ball over the bar.

Etheridge was then quick off his line to save with his legs from Mohamed Salah while Cardiff offered a warning when Alisson Becker tipped over Oumar Niasse's close-range effort.

After an intense spell of pressure following the interval, Georginio Wijnaldum broke the deadlock for Liverpool in fine style with a first-time strike from a clever short corner from Trent Alexander-Arnold.

Sean Morrison then missed a golden opportunity for relegation-threatened Cardiff to equalise, making a hash of a header when he had an open goal at his mercy after Alisson misjudged a cross.

Late in the game, Morrison was judged to have pulled down Mohamed Salah in the box and substitute James Milner converted the 81st-minute penalty to make sure of the crucial three points for Klopp's side.

Liverpool's ability to avoid slip-ups against lowly opposition has been a key part of their season -- they have taken 52 points from a possible 54 against teams in the bottom half of the table.

Cardiff remain in 18th place, the final relegation spot, and are three points behind 17th placed Brighton &amp; Hove Albion, having played a game more.

Cristiano Ronaldo is "1,000 per cent" certain to remain at Juventus, he said after they <a href="https://www.wionews.com/sports/juventus-win-eighth-consecutive-serie-a-title-212170">clinched the Serie A title on Saturday with a 2-1 win over Fiorentina.</a>

"I'm really happy to have won the Italian title in my first season here. It has been a great season for this Juventus, we also won the Italian Supercup," said the Portuguese forward, who has scored 19 league goals.

"We didn't do so well in the Champions League but there is always next year," he added. "I will stay, 1,000 per cent."

Defender Leonardo Bonucci, meanwhile, explained how Juventus had managed to bounce back from their shock Champions League quarter-final exit against Ajax on Tuesday when they lost 2-1 at home and went out 3-2 on aggregate.

"I'm sorry about the Champions but we transformed the disappointment into anger and energy. This Scudetto, the eighth in a row, is something unique," he said. "We really want to celebrate, this success makes the season's sacrifice all worth it.

Coach Massimiliano Allegri said winning with five games to spare was a "testimony to our great season".

"We put aside the elimination that brought us disappointment and bitterness. Fortunately, we had this match that allowed us to close the championship," said the 51-year-old who has been in charge for the last five campaigns.

Allegri said his team, who fell behind after six minutes, needed to deal better with setbacks.

"We came from Tuesday's disappointment, then entered the field and conceded a goal," he said. "We have to work on dealing with the unexpected, on Tuesday we suffered four devastating counter-attacks, today we did the same after we conceded the goal."

He said injuries had prevented Juventus from producing better performances.

"In general, during the season, we were unable to find continuity," he said. "There were constant new injuries and recurring fitness problems, so at times I had only 14 players to train with. Despite it all, we won by a big advantage.”

"We have to work on dealing with the unexpected, on Tuesday we suffered four devastating counter-attacks, today we did the same after we conceded the goal." He said injuries had prevented Juventus from producing better performances. "In general, during the season, we were unable to find continuity," he said. "There were constant new injuries and recurring fitness problems, so at times I had only 14 players to train with. Despite it all, we won by a big advantage.”

An inspired Ayoze Perez helped Newcastle United put any lingering Premier League relegation fears to bed with a hat-trick in a 3-1 win over Southampton at St James' Park on Saturday.

The Spaniard scored twice before halftime to put the hosts in command and killed off Southampton late on after Mario Lemina's goal had revived the Saints.

Victory lifted Newcastle 10 points above third-bottom Cardiff City who face title-chasing Liverpool on Sunday.

Southampton remained five points clear of the drop zone.

"I feel very happy to get the hat-trick and help the team to get three important points that puts us in a great position," said Perez, who took his league tally for the season into double figures for the first time at Newcastle.

"We're now 12th which means a lot. It's been a couple of months that are very important for us. We've done very well, We've got great results and now that we're safe we're going to start looking forward and up and finish even better."

The home crowd were still moaning about a James Ward-Prowse body-check on Miguel Almiron when Perez scored twice in three minutes to fuel a jubilant mood in the Easter sunshine.

First he turned beautifully before firing right-footed past Angus Gunn in the 27th minute and with Southampton still reeling he slid in to meet Salomon Rondon's low cross.

When Ki Sung-yueng was denied a third for Newcastle shortly after halftime, his skidding shot thudding against the post, the hosts were in complete control, but Southampton were not done.

Mario Lemina halved the deficit just before the hour mark with a clinical finish from Stuart Armstrong's cross and the visitors were suddenly looking the more likely to score.

In a frantic end-to-end finale, Almiron went off with a hamstring injury and Gunn made a superb save to keep out Isaac Hayden's deflected volley before Perez touched home in the 86th minute to calm the home crowd's jitters.

There was still time for Southampton to threaten again but Maya Yoshida's header was brilliantly saved by Martin Dubravka.

Ayoze Perez hat-trick ends Newcastle relegation fears

Liverpool's James Milner is confident his side can beat Barcelona in the Champions League semi-final and said the Premier League club's style of play can cause the Spanish champions problems.

Liverpool, who comfortably eased past Porto to reach the semi-finals, will travel to the Nou Camp for the first leg on May 1 with the return leg at Anfield a week later on May 7.

"We can beat Barca but we know it will very tough," Milner told reporters. "They're a strong team and it is a tough place to go but I don't think they will have played too many teams with the style we play either.

"I've been there a couple of times in the knockout stages with (Manchester) City and not got the right result, so hopefully it is third time lucky for me. They're a team full of great individual talent and a great side too.

"The Camp Nou is a fantastic stadium and a fantastic place to play with a great atmosphere. It will be very tough and we'll have to be at our best but (it's) tough for them too."

Barcelona, who eliminated Manchester United with a 4-0 aggregate score to advance, are eyeing the treble this season. The Catalans have a nine-point lead in the La Liga standings and are also in the final of the Copa del Rey.

Milner is counting on Liverpool's European experience over the last two seasons to get them over the line. They beat Porto, Manchester City and AS Roma in the knockout stages last season to reach the final where they lost to Real Madrid.

"Over the last couple of seasons, with the teams we've beaten in the Champions League, we should go there with confidence no matter how tough it is going to be," Milner added.

"I'm sure you can see in this year's run and in games when things haven't been going well that we've got the experience. We have been there before and know how to get results."

Will take time for players to get over UCL exit: Pep Guardiola

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has warned his under-achieving Manchester United players there is no "hiding place" for them and they are playing for their futures at the club.

The United manager, whose side <a href="https://www.wionews.com/photos/from-cristiano-ronaldos-struggle-to-lionel-messis-double-major-takeaways-from-uefa-champions-league-quarter-finals-211344#messi-feasts-on-english-foes-again-211325">exited the Champions League</a> this week in limp fashion against Barcelona, said he is looking to the likes of Anthony Martial and Paul Pogba to rediscover their best form as they battle to qualify for next season's Champions League.

United face three crucial league games with Everton, Manchester City and Chelsea that will have a huge say on whether they finish in the top four.

But with big-name stars such as Martial and Pogba desperately struggling for form in a run that has seen United lose five of their last seven league and cup games, the United manager has laid out demands to his players.

"I've learnt a lot about them over the months I've been here now and you get to know them," said Solskjaer.&nbsp;

"Most of them have really impressed me in their attitude and, of course, there are some who need to get a reality check of where they're at.

"Every day in training, every game when you're playing there's no hiding place and everyone can see what your level's at we're working with fantastic staff to create this culture."

'Have to be realistic'

Solskjaer, who has seen his side's fortunes slide since he was handed the job on a permanent basis after a sparkling start as interim manager, said tests such as Barcelona are good indicators of whether players are able to play at such a level.

"It is performances on the pitch that will determine where they're at in their careers, short term and long term, every single day," said Solskjaer.

"That's what we spoke about at Barca as well, when you're at big stadiums, you've got to step up, make good decisions and I'm looking forward to this period."

Martial, in particular, has been a frustration for the United manager, having scored just three goals in 2019 despite signing a lucrative new five-year contract in January.

Under Solskjaer's predecessor Jose Mourinho, the young Frenchman had seemed destined to leave Old Trafford only to show an improvement in attitude and form in the early games of the Norwegian's reign.

"I've spoken to individuals and they know, and Anthony is one I've spoken to, what we expect from them," said Solskjaer.&nbsp;

"Anthony's got a massive talent, signed a new contract and he knows we believe in him, so just keep working.

"I think anyone that plays for Man United has to deliver, to stay in the squad and stay in the team and Anthony is no different to Rashy (Rashford) or Rom (Lukaku) or Alexis (Sanchez) or the other forwards we have to choose from."&nbsp;

Despite some average business performed by his club in recent transfer windows, Solskjaer is confident they will be more successful in that area this summer.

"I've been speaking to the club, we know that we have to be realistic and have a job to be done there's no quick fix," he said.

"It's not like buy seven players and we're in the right shape."

No hiding place for out-of-form Manchester United stars: Solskjaer

Arsenal boosted their hopes of a top-four finish in the Premier League after a bizarre 10th-minute goal by striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang gave them a 1-0 win at 10-man Watford on Monday.

The result lifted the Gunners two places up to fourth on 66 points from 33 games, one behind third-placed Tottenham Hotspur. Arsenal are ahead of fifth-placed Chelsea, who have played a game more, on goal difference. Watford stayed 10th with 46 points.

Arsenal manager Unai Emery was pleased with his team's first away clean sheet of the season.

"A clean sheet is very important," he told the BBC. "It is going to give us a lot of information, this match."

The fast-paced clash took a decisive turn in a frantic one-minute spell early on, as Aubameyang found the back of the net in unlikely fashion before Watford striker Troy Deeney was shown a straight red card for elbowing Lucas Torreira.

The home side's goalkeeper Ben Foster dwelled on Daryl Janmaat's back pass for too long, allowing Aubameyang to close him down and block his attempted goalmouth clearance as the ball ricocheted into the back of the net.

Foster made no excuses for his howler.

"I've said sorry to the lads," he said. "I tried to drag it on to my left and pass it out but before I knew it Aubameyang was bloody on me. He is too quick. In hindsight you have to get rid (of the ball) as quick as you can, even if it goes into row Z."

Despite their numerical disadvantage, Watford kept pressing and missed a string of chances to draw level, having twice been denied by the woodwork as well as by some good saves from Arsenal keeper Bernd Leno.

The home side missed their best opportunity in the 80th minute when Arsenal substitute Ainsley Maitland-Niles slid in to block Andre Gray's goal-bound effort after the Watford forward rounded Leno.

Aubameyang, Alex Iwobi and Henrikh Mkhitaryan also came close at the other end but Arsenal were forced to hang on in the closing stages with Watford throwing men forward.

The home team's manager Javi Gracia praised his team for their fighting spirit in the face of adversity.

"We did a lot of things to try to win, a big effort," he said. "We didn't get any points but we played well. It was a difficult game with 10 men."

Freakish goal gives Arsenal 1-0 win at 10-man Watford

Cardiff City manager Neil Warnock has called on his players to take inspiration from golf icon Tiger Woods' sensational comeback story as he tries to defy the odds and keep the Welsh club in the Premier League.

Woods completed one of the greatest sporting comebacks on Sunday when he claimed his fifth Masters title, 11 years after winning his last major championship.

A final round resurgence earned Woods another Green Jacket and Warnock said Cardiff also needed to rediscover their spark with five games remaining in the season.

"We've just got to look at the golf, and look at what he's done, Tiger, which was amazing and nobody had given him a chance either," Warnock told reporters ahead of Tuesday's relegation 'six-pointer' against Brighton &amp; Hove Albion.

"It's an opportunity for us to give ourselves a chance until the end of the season. We have to grab that."

Cardiff travel to the Amex Stadium five points adrift of the safety zone and relegation rivals Brighton, who have a game in hand and sit one place above the Welsh side in 17th.

"We've had that many kicks in the teeth in the last four months (and) we keep bouncing back really," Warnock added.

"And obviously over the last few weeks we have felt sorry for ourselves a few times and we haven't got time to do that now. We have to give it our best shot and if it's not good enough we'll accept it."

Defeat at Brighton would leave Cardiff seemingly doomed to an immediate return to the Championship, with their season run-in including daunting fixtures against league leaders Liverpool and fifth-placed Manchester United.

Cardiff have come out on the wrong side of refereeing decisions in recent weeks.

They had a penalty appeal turned down in a 2-0 loss at Burnley on Saturday, two weeks after conceding an equaliser against Chelsea which was widely viewed as offside.

The FA charged Warnock for his post-match comments about the officials after the 2-1 home defeat by Chelsea.

The 70-year-old confirmed that he is appealing against three breaches of FA Rule E3 for bringing the game into disrepute.

"I've pleaded not guilty to the charges and I expect to have a hearing sometime this week, I hope," Warnock said.

A spectacular strike from Mohamed Salah helped Liverpool maintain their two-point lead over Manchester City in the Premier League title race with a 2-0 win over Chelsea at Anfield on Sunday.

City won 3-1 at Crystal Palace earlier on Sunday meaning Liverpool have 85 points with four games to go and City are on 83 with an additional match to play.

After a tight and tactical first half, Liverpool broke through in the 51st minute when Jordan Henderson picked out Sadio Mane at the back post and the Senegalese forward confidently headed home.

Anfield erupted two minutes later when Mohamed Salah scored a sensational second -- the Egyptian receiving the ball on the right flank and cutting inside before unleashing an unstoppable drive from 25 metres out into the far, top corner.

Chelsea responded positively, though, with David Luiz picking out Eden Hazard with a ball over the top, the Belgian beating the advancing Alisson Becker only to see his shot bounce out off the post.

Moments later, Becker then had to be alert to keep out a Hazard shot from a Willian cross as Chelsea searched in vain for a way back.

Mohamed Salah screamer gives Liverpool vital win against Chelsea

Manchester City forward Raheem Sterling struck twice as the Premier League champions beat Crystal Palace 3-1 at Selhurst Park on Sunday to go top of the table and heap pressure on title rivals Liverpool.

Victory left City on 83 points from 33 matches, one point above Liverpool although the Merseyside club can leapfrog Pep Guardiola's team with a win over third-placed Chelsea later on Sunday.

The victory was the ninth straight win for City in the Premier League.

Having missed an easy chance early on, Sterling put City ahead in the 15th minute when he ran on to Kevin De Bruyne's inch-perfect pass from behind the halfway line and fired past goalkeeper Vicente Guaita.

The England international added a second for his 17th league goal of the season after the break, meeting Leroy Sane's first-time cross into the box with a calm left-footed finish that wrong-footed Guaita as it rolled in.

Palace ensured an entertaining finish to the contest when Luka Milivojevic scored from a free kick with nine minutes to go after midfielder James McArthur was brought down on the edge of the penalty area.

City, however, sealed the deal with their third of the match as De Bruyne latched on to a poor pass from defender Aaron Wan-Bissaka before feeding substitute Gabriel Jesus who finished emphatically.

"We controlled the ball really well but one moment in the game and they are back in it. But we responded again and got the third goal," said Sterling, who added his belief that the title race will go down to the wire.

"100 percent the way Liverpool have been playing. It will go down to the wire. I don't see us slowing down now. Liverpool have a great squad, great self-belief, but so do we," said the former Liverpool forward.

Pep Guardiola's side now face a crucial ten days starting with a home game against Tottenham Hotspur on Wednesday in their Champions League quarter-final second leg, trailing 1-0 from the opening game.

City then play Spurs at the Etihad again, in the league, on Saturday before the Manchester derby at Old Trafford on April 24.

Two Paul Pogba penalties earned lethargic Manchester United a 2-1 victory over West Ham United in the Premier League at Old Trafford on Saturday.

Having lost five of their previous six matches in all competitions, United looked short on confidence early on against West Ham, who had a goal ruled out in the 10th minute when Felipe Anderson was adjudged to be offside when finding the net.

That tight call went United's way, and soon after they were in front when Pogba hammered home a 19th-minute penalty, much to the relief of home crowd.

Even with the lead, United remained sluggish and did not muster another shot on target for the rest of the first half during which they saw less of the ball than their visitors.

The interval did little to rejuvenate United with Anderson's first goal in 14 league games drawing the visitors level just four minutes into the second period.

Michail Antonio twice went close to completing the turnaround for West Ham, but United stole all three points after Pogba again converted from the spot 10 minutes from time.

The win ensured United climbed above Arsenal into fifth place, two points behind Chelsea, while West Ham stayed 11th.

"They played better than us, it is fair to say, I don't think anyone will disagree," United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer said. "We got away with it. Sometimes we have lost when we should have won, so over a season it evens itself out."

Marcus Rashford was not fit enough to start for United, with Solskjaer making five changes from the side beaten by Barcelona in the Champions League in midweek, but the reshuffle did little to lift United as the Hammers controlled the opening exchanges.

Anderson sent the visiting supporters into raptures after converting former United striker Javier Hernandez's knockdown, but the linesman's flag denied the Brazilian.

United, though, were gifted the opportunity to break the deadlock through Pogba after Robert Snodgrass fouled Juan Mata in the penalty area.

West Ham, still on top after the break, equalised through Anderson, who lost his marker Marcos Rojo to fire Manuel Lanzini's cross past De Gea.

Substitute Antonio hit the bar with a thunderous strike from distance and was then denied by a brilliant De Gea save.

That stop proved crucial as Anthony Martial then raced clear before being upended in the area, with Pogba stepping up to fire in his seventh successful penalty of the season.

"We deserved more," West Ham manager Manuel Pellegrini said. "It was a pleasure for me to see my team play like this against Manchester United in their own stadium."

<a href="https://www.wionews.com/search?q=Tottenham+Hotspur">Tottenham Hotspur</a>'s Brazil forward Lucas Moura struck a superb hat-trick in a 4-0 win over relegated Huddersfield Town on Saturday to bolster the home side's hopes of a top-four finish in the Premier League.

Spurs were without the injured Harry Kane and Dele Alli but Lucas's treble, which included two goals in the final few minutes, and an early Victor Wanyama goal, were just reward for a dominant display against the league's bottom side.

Lucas, who celebrated with his one-year-old son Miguel on the pitch at the end, said, "I practise all the time and I'm so happy today because I did very well, good passes, good finishes and if we play like this as a team we can win a lot of things."

The win in the early game took Spurs up to third place, a point ahead of Chelsea and four points clear of fifth-placed fellow London rivals Arsenal, who have a game in hand.

Tottenham made seven changes from the side that beat Manchester City 1-0 at home in the Champions League in midweek, with an eye on the quarter-final second leg on Wednesday.

"It's so important because seven changes I think builds up confidence in the squad and confidence in the team," Spurs manager Mauricio Pochettino told reporters. "It's going to be a tough race to the end (to finish in the top four)".

Wanyama put Spurs ahead after 24 minutes with a fine individual goal after dribbling around goalkeeper Ben Hamer and tucking the ball into an empty net from a Ben Davies pass.

Three minutes later the hosts scored again thanks to a fierce right-foot drive by Lucas that flew underneath Hamer after the excellent Moussa Sissoko set him up on the break.

Spurs' Fernando Llorente hit the bar after halftime and was unlucky not to get on the scoresheet after a lively display. Huddersfield's Juninho Bacuna had a late free-kick tipped on to the bar before Christian Eriksen hit the post on the counter.

Six minutes later Lucas controlled Eriksen's cross and fired into the bottom corner past the helpless Hamer before rounding off the win by smashing into the top corner in stoppage time after being fed by substitute Son Heung-min.

"Now we have a good battle in Manchester; we need from now to recover for this game and prepare very well," added Lucas. "It will be so hard there but if we play like we did today we can go there and get a good result and we can qualify."

Chelsea boss Maurizio Sarri has called for a rule that can permit the Premier League managers to stop the match if a player is racially abused.&nbsp;

Sarri said, "We need a rule for the Premier League but I think for all the championships, for all football, a rule that can permit us to stop the match."&nbsp;

The Chelsea head coach was reacting after the club's 18-year-old winger, Callum Hudson-Odoi, was racially abused twice in 11 days playing for his club and on his England debut.&nbsp;

Chelsea lodged a formal complaint with UEFA over the racist abuse aimed at Hudson-Odoi in the 5-0 Europa League win at Dynamo Kiev on March 14.&nbsp;

UEFA has charged Montenegro with racist behaviour after abuse suffered by England players in their 5-1 victory in Podgorica in a Euro 2020 qualifier on Monday (25th March).&nbsp;

Sarri said, "We need to do something different, probably it's right to stop the match for 10 minutes at the first situation."

Apart from Sarri, Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola also took a stand against racism. He said is prepared to take their players off the pitch in a bid to combat racist abuse.&nbsp;

In the press conference, Guardiola said that football can be a 'strong weapon' against racism and contemplated abandoning matches in protest.&nbsp;

"Football is a strong weapon, they are not nice words to say, is a strong weapon to defend the principals of humanity," said Guardiola.&nbsp;

"I remember a long time ago the people said you cannot mix football and politics, that is not true. Politics is everywhere, human rights is everywhere."&nbsp;

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp commented on the racist abuse suffered by some England players during England's 5-1 win over Montenegro in Podgorica on Monday, as he spoke to the media ahead of his side's EPL game with Tottenham on Sunday.&nbsp;

Klopp said he was ''disappointed'' that the incident occurred, and he would consider taking his team off the pitch if he felt abuse was serious but would ultimately like match officials to make the decision.&nbsp;

"It's very difficult for me to hear it, to hear things like that in the stadium and probably see it in a moment," said Klopp.&nbsp;

Klopp showed determination to stand together with other coaches on the subject of racism but he said there should be "better ways to punish these guys.&nbsp;

Tottenham Hotspur manager Mauricio Pochettino has lent his support to defender Danny Rose, after the defender was one of the players who was subjected to racist abuse during England's 5-1 win over Montenegro in Podgorica on Monday.

Pochettino added, "Our job is to win football games. But if a whole stand could do it then it's completely different."

Premier League managers stand together to 'fight' racism in football

Chelsea midfielder Danny Drinkwater has no future at the Premier League club because he is not suited to their style of play, manager Maurizio Sarri said on Wednesday.&nbsp;

Drinkwater joined Chelsea from Leicester City for a reported $45.84 million in 2017 but last played for the London club in the Community Shield in August.&nbsp;

The midfielder was charged with drink driving earlier this week and was left out of Chelsea's squad for their trip to face Slavia Prague in the Europa League quarter-finals later on Thursday.&nbsp;

"(Drinkwater) has never played because... he's not suitable to my system, to my way of playing," Sarri told reporters.&nbsp;

"Maybe I'm wrong, but it's my opinion. I spoke with him in August, when the market was still open, and said he should look for something different because he wouldn't play. And I told him the reasons, my reasons.&nbsp;

"I don't know (why he decided to stay). Probably he hoped we could change the system. I have a very good relationship with him because, in my opinion, he's a good boy... but he's not suitable for me."&nbsp;

Sarri plans to make five or six changes for the Europa League match and says his side will need to be on their toes to get a result.&nbsp;

"In my opinion, this is a very dangerous match for us," he added. Slavia are a fast team, so we need to be very, very compact and defend really very well.&nbsp;

"They are dangerous, especially on crosses where they attack the box with five or six players, and are dangerous on counter-attacks. So it won't be easy for us."&nbsp;

"They are dangerous, especially on crosses where they attack the box with five or six players, and are dangerous on counter-attacks. So it won't be easy for us."
