Bayern Munich’s outgoing manager&nbsp;Thomas&nbsp;Tuchel&nbsp;has&nbsp;set his sights on a return to the Premier League (PL) as he prepares for his next move. Tuchel, who previously managed Premier League giants Chelsea, will&nbsp;be a free agent in the summer&nbsp;with&nbsp;Bayern announcing his departure&nbsp;back&nbsp;in February for a poor set of results. PL clubs like Manchester United, Liverpool and West Ham are keeping close eyes on him despite strong interest from Barcelona for the German gaffer.

<h2>Tuchel back to Premier League?</h2>

According to ESPN, Tuchel already has several offers on his table&nbsp;including&nbsp;strong&nbsp;links to Barcelona, who also have vacancy at their helm. However, the 50-year-old is holding for a move to England as there could be some&nbsp;big&nbsp;and shocking vacancies at Premier League clubs. Manchester United and Chelsea are exploring options to get a new manager&nbsp;while&nbsp;West Ham United gaffer David Moyes is yet to sign a new deal, leaving&nbsp;another proposed option.

However, it is unlikely that Tuchel will move to West Ham with Barcelona as a big-club option. The Catalonians are already preparing for life without Xavi Hernandez&nbsp;who&nbsp;will leave the club in summer. Rafael Marquez and Hansi Flick remain options to replace Xavi, but Tuchel remains the favourite.

The German manager has already won&nbsp;a host of&nbsp;titles in his career and&nbsp;comes with&nbsp;a proven track record.&nbsp;He won the Champions League with Chelsea while winning league titles in France and Germany. Last season&nbsp;he&nbsp;won the Bundesliga while leading Chelsea to FA Cup and League Cup finals during his time at the club.

On the other side, Bayern are also contemplating offers to get a new manager as they look to replace Tuchel.

Julian Nagelsmann’s option is closed after he penned a new deal to stay in charge of&nbsp;Germany&nbsp;while&nbsp;Antonio Conte and Jose Mourinho are not in the team’s plan due to their philosophy of playing defensive football. Zinedine Zidane and Hansi Flick are the most probable options for Bayern&nbsp;at the moment&nbsp;to take over.

Bayern Munich manager Thomas Tuchel eyes Premier League return despite Barcelona links - Report

In a historic decision on Thursday (April 18), the Football Association (FA) has decided to scrap replays for the FA Cup from the 2024-25 season. The decision speculated to come sometime soon is historic in its right, considering FA Cup replays have been part of the traditional football calendar ever since the tournament started in 1871. Scrapping FA Cup replays will now help accommodate extra matchdays for the extended UEFA calendar from the 2024-25 season.

<h2>FA Cup replays scrapped</h2>

FA chief executive Mark Bullingham has said: “The new schedule ensures the magic of the Cup is protected and enhanced while working for the whole of the English game. The longer summer period also allows a much-needed player break before the start of the next season.”

While Premier League chief executive, Richard Masters said: “The FA and the Premier League have worked in partnership to deliver more exclusive weekends without compromising the excitement of knockout football and this has been achieved at the same time as allowing us to ease fixture congestion generally.”

The FA Cup replays have been part of the football calendar ever since its inception, however, with increasing physical demands and stress on the players, scrapping the replays at various stages had become mandatory. During&nbsp;the 2013-14 season, FA Cup replays were scrapped for the quarterfinals and later from&nbsp;the fifth round. During the Covid-19 pandemic in 2020-21, there were no replays and matches decided in a single leg.

The changes come as part of a new six-year agreement between the Football Association (FA) and the Premier League. The decision&nbsp;will help UEFA to accommodate extra matchdays in&nbsp;the 2024-25 season.

With the extended format in UEFA Champions League, there will be two more matchdays in the group stage while a playoff round will take place before the Round of 16.

Other changes will see the fourth and fifth rounds, and the quarter-finals, played without clashing with any Premier League fixtures for the first time. The fourth round will be played in an extended window from Friday to Wednesday. The FA Cup final has also been moved to the penultimate weekend of the Premier League season. It will be played on a Saturday, and will also be independent of any Premier League matches, as will the Friday before the final "to allow focus on the build-up to the showpiece event".

Football: Historic! FA Cup replays scrapped from 2024-25 season to accommodate UEFA's extended calendar

Chelsea midfielder Cole Palmer scored four goals, including a hat-trick in the first 30 minutes, as his side hammered Everton 6-0 on Monday to maintain their push for a European spot and leave the visitors still hovering above the relegation zone.

The 21-year-old Palmer underlined his England credentials with a classic left foot, header, right foot treble and then added a second-half penalty as Chelsea ran riot.

Nicolas Jackson and substitute Alfie Gilchrist were also on target as Chelsea remain ninth on 47 points but with games in hand on all the teams above them.

"When we signed him (Palmer) he was a great talent," Chelsea boss Mauricio Pochettino said. "He is doing fantastic, he is doing really well and he has adapted himself. The impact on the team was amazing from day one."

It was a sobering night for Sean Dyche's visitors, however, as the heavy defeat leaves Everton 16th on 27 points, two places and two points above the relegation zone.

"A horrid night, miles away from where we want to be," said Dyche. "The hard yards, simple tackling, basic principles - all out the window and it was a massive reminder of where we are."

Everton actually had the first good chance but Beto blasted over from point-blank range after 10 minutes and it was downhill from then on.

Palmer got things moving after 13 minutes when he nutmegged Jarrad Branthwaite, played a one-two with Jackson and instantly clipped in a shot from the edge of the box.

Five minutes later more intricate passing – albeit alongside tentative Everton defending – set up the second as Jordan Pickford parried a Jackson shot straight to Palmer, who nodded the ball into the empty net.

Pickford also handed Palmer his third goal as the midfielder intercepted a poor clearance 30 metres out and, with his weaker right foot, chipped brilliantly over the retreating keeper after 29 minutes.

<h2>Chelsea Squabble</h2>

Jackson made it 4-0 just before the break and Palmer’s fourth came from the penalty spot in the 64th minute but only after captain Conor Gallagher had to intervene to shove away Jackson and Noni Madueke as they squabbled for the ball after the latter was brought down in the box.

The calmly-taken penalty took Palmer alongside Manchester City's Erling Haaland at the top of the league scoring charts with 20 and his tally in all competitions to 23 as he became the first Chelsea player to reach 20 since Eden Hazard in 2018/19.

Pochettino was furious about the penalty taking incident that preceded it, though, apologising for the "bad image" it sent around the world. "I made it clear that I won't accept this again - I promise that," he said.

Young substitute Gilchrist smashed home the sixth goal in the final minute to leave the Chelsea fans dreaming of Europe, and while it might not be a return to the Champions League they won in 2021, it would still represent progress after they looked marooned in mid-table two months ago.

Everton, in contrast, remain in dire danger of a first relegation since 1951 and face a massive home showdown with fellow strugglers Nottingham Forest on Sunday having seen their goal difference, as well as their confidence, take a hammering.

"We underperformed - the most embarrassed I have felt as an individual," said centre back James Tarkowski.

"It shows where we are at today, we can only apologise to the fans who supported us. It is on the players. It is not on the manager and the staff. No excuses on our behalf. We need to brush ourselves down as we have a big few weeks coming up."

Liverpool, who had 21 shots to Palace's eight, squandered a bagful of chances including Curtis Jones's shot on a breakaway that he fired wide, tugging his shirt over his head in disbelief. Liverpool's talisman Mohamed Salah hammered a close-range strike off a defender in the dying seconds.

Premier League: Liverpool slip in title race after shock home defeat against Crystal Palace

It was a Thursday (April 11) evening horror show for English clubs in Europe after Liverpool stumbled to a 3-0 defeat against Atalanta at home in the Europa League. On the other hand, West Ham United also dented their chances of Champions League qualification after they lost to Bayer Leverkusen in the first leg ties of Europe’s second-tier competition. The results now have huge bearings on the final outcome of how many teams will qualify for the Champions League from Europe as England now drop in the UEFA coefficient rankings.&nbsp; However, it is Aston Villa who will have suffered the most despite their 2-1 over Lille in the Europa Conference League.

<h2>Aston Villa's aspirations of Champions League qualification dented</h2>

Going into Thursday evening, England were second in the UEFA coefficient rankings, however, defeats for West Ham United and Liverpool meant that England dropped to third with Germany replacing them in second. So as things stand, England will have only four automatic Champions League spots to play with as Aston Villa sit fifth and will have to contend with a Europa League berth. Had England been fifth it would have meant both Villa and fourth placed Tottenham would have played in next season’s Champions League.

Currently, Italy’s AS Roma and Germany’s Borussia Dortmund are qualifying as fifth placed teams from their respective leagues. However, the job is far from done for the latter as Germany has only three teams in Europe while England still has five teams who can boost their chances for more spots in the Champions League qualification.

UEFA Coefficient Rankings

Italy: 18.714

Germany: 16.928

England: 16.875

Spain: 15.062

France: 14.750

Villa though can still dictate and secure a Champions League berth for next season. Considering they win the Europa Conference League coupled with other teams reaching at least the semifinal of their European competitions (Champions League, Europa League), it could see them reach the premier competition. While teams get an automatic Europa League berth on winning the Conference League, Villa’s prize could be even bigger considering their fate is still in their hands.

<h2>Can Villa still miss out on the Champions League?</h2>

In another scenario, Villa could miss out on the Champions League qualification if they win the Conference League and finish fifth in the Premier League. If West Ham United win the Europa League, it will be the Hammers who will replace the fifth placed team in the Premier League as only five teams can qualify from the same league. In this scenario, it will be the fifth placed team that will have to prophet its berth to West Ham.

The English Premier League (PL) on Thursday (April 11) made a significant decision as they will introduce the semi-automated offside technology (SAOT) from the 2024-25 season. The Premier League which already uses the Video Assistant Referee (VAR) confirmed the use of technology after meeting with top-flight teams, that&nbsp;unanimously agreed to it. The introduction of semi-automated offside technology is expected to cut the average length of a VAR check for offside by 30 seconds.

<h2>Premier League confirms use of SAOT</h2>

"The technology will provide quicker and consistent placement of the virtual offside line, based on optical player tracking, and will produce high-quality broadcast graphics to ensure an enhanced in-stadium and broadcast experience for supporters," a league statement said.

The technology that was used in the 2022 FIFA World Cup will now make its debut in the Premier League next season. The Premier League held a meeting with the stakeholders and the club representatives on Thursday after which the decision was passed with unanimous votes. The technology is already in use in the Champions League and the Serie A but not in the same manner it was used in the Qatar World Cup.

<h2>What is the SAOT?</h2>

The system typically requires 12 cameras inside a stadium which track the ball and 29 data points on each player. Not all systems require a chip in the ball. Decisions could be made in seconds and on an average decisions are expected to be made 30 seconds quicker. During the decision 3D automated images will be shown on giant screens at stadiums. The current Hawk-Eye system used by VAR will be used as backup when semi-automated technology is not working, for instance when multiple bodies are obscuring the cameras.

The Premier League has already been under fire for a number of controversial decisions in the current season. While the new technology will be a boost for more accurate and timely decisions in the league, it will be interesting how it will be operated.

Earlier in the season, Liverpool were on the receiving end of a poor offside decision against Tottenham Hotspur where Luis Diaz was judged offside despite replays showing otherwise. The decision left everyone surprised as VAR too got the decision wrong. Considering only goal difference is separating Liverpool at the top of the league table, the decision already has a huge bearing on the outcome of the entire title race.

The Premier League which already uses the Video Assistant Referee (VAR) confirmed the use of technology after meeting with top-flight teams, that unanimously agreed to it. The introduction of semi-automated offside technology is expected to cut the average length of a VAR check for offside by 30 seconds. Premier League clubs have unanimously agreed to the introduction of Semi-Automated Offside Technology from next season It will provide quicker placement of the virtual offside line and high-quality graphics to ensure an enhanced broadcast and stadium experience — Premier League (@premierleague) April 11, 2024 × Premier League confirms use of SAOT "The technology will provide quicker and consistent placement of the virtual offside line, based on optical player tracking, and will produce high-quality broadcast graphics to ensure an enhanced in-stadium and broadcast experience for supporters," a league statement said. What is the SAOT? The system typically requires 12 cameras inside a stadium which track the ball and 29 data points on each player. Not all systems require a chip in the ball. Decisions could be made in seconds and on an average decisions are expected to be made 30 seconds quicker. During the decision 3D automated images will be shown on giant screens at stadiums. The current Hawk-Eye system used by VAR will be used as backup when semi-automated technology is not working, for instance when multiple bodies are obscuring the cameras. ALSO READ | F1: Mercedes boss Toto Wolff claims 2026 might be 'most realistic opportunity for any team to beat Red Bull' The Premier League has already been under fire for a number of controversial decisions in the current season.

Premier League set to introduce semi-automated offside technology from 2024-25 season

Sporting CP manager Ruben Amorim has reached a verbal agreement in principle to join Liverpool to replace Jurgen Klopp, who departs at the end of the season, a Sky Germany report has claimed. Amorim has been in the hot seat to join the English club ever since Bayer Leverkusen manager Xabi Alonso announced he was not moving to Merseyside to join his former club.&nbsp;

According to the publication, Amorim has discussed a three-year contract to join Liverpool, although a final deal was yet to be signed. Reports indicate that returning Michael Edwards has a big say in the signing of Amorim as the next manager.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Amorim has been a hot pick for several clubs looking for a manager. Apart from Liverpool, the Portuguese has been on Barcelona and Bayern Munich's managerial shortlist as well.

<h2>'Can't say like Xabi' - Amorim</h2>

Notably, on the eve of the Lisbon derby against Benfica, which Sporting ultimately won 2-1, Amorim gave the most clear hint that he was planning a move to Liverpool.&nbsp;

The Portuguese said there was no guarantee that he will stay in Portugal beyond the season to oversee Sporting.&nbsp;

"I cannot guarantee that I will stay at Sporting next season," Amorim said in a press conference when quizzed about his future.&nbsp;

"I can’t say that like Xabi Alonso did. We have time to discuss my future, we will do that at the right time," he added.&nbsp;

Amorim added if Sporting did not win any silverware this season, he would leave the club.&nbsp;

“Sporting is already dealing with the future, I can’t decide. I gave my word and I can’t go back on it. If we don’t win titles, I’ll leave Sporting. It was clear from the start, it was the bet I passed on to the players. We have to win titles. First we’ll see if we can do it and then we’ll decide things."

Amorim has a release clause in his contract which means if Liverpool want to bring him to Anfield next season, they would have to simply trigger the clause. Amorim can be allowed to leave the Portuguese club for as little as $16 million when the release clause becomes active in the summer. The fee further drops to $10.5 million the following season.

Klopp leaves Liverpool at the end of the season after successful nine years at the helm. The club is currently involved in a three-leg title race whilst challenging for the Europa League where there is a high possibility that Alonso's Leverkusen could meet them in the final.&nbsp;

Sporting coach Ruben Amorim reaches agreement in principle to join Liverpool: Report

Everton have been hit with a two-point deduction for breaching Premier League Profitability and Sustainability Rules (PSR), pushing them near the relegation zone. This is the second points deduction that the Toffees have faced this season, having previously been docked 10 points that was reduced to six after a successful appeal.&nbsp;

Prior to the points deduction, Everton sat 15th in the Premier League table, four points above the relegation zone. However, the Merseyside Blues have now dropped below Brentford into 16th place with 27 points, just two points adrift of 18th-placed Luton Town.&nbsp;

"An independent Commission has given an immediate two-point deduction to Everton FC for a breach of the Premier League’s Profitability and Sustainability Rules (PSRs) for the period ending Season 2022/23," Premier League said in a statement.&nbsp;

According to PSR, the clubs are only permitted to lose $132.8 million (£105 million) over three years but an independent commission found that Everton breached the threshold by a margin of $21 million (£16.6 million) for the three-year period to 2022-23.&nbsp;

<h2>Points deduction reduced due to mitigating factors</h2>

Notably, the commission initially wanted to impose a five-point deduction but settled on two due to mitigating factors.&nbsp;

During the investigation, Everton argued of multiple mitigating factors which include the fact that they have already been penalised once for seasons that overlap the new breach.

The club also asserted that the loss of sponsorship from USM Services due to the Russian invasion of Ukraine and their admitting to the breach at the first opportunity meant the point deduction needed to be lenient.

The club now intends to appeal the second punishment as it belives that the $132 million threshold for losses over a three-year period is outdated as it has not kept up with inflation in wages and transfer fees.&nbsp;

“Everton remains committed to working collaboratively with the league on all matters relating to PSR but is extremely concerned by the inconsistency of different commissions in respect of points deductions applied," the club said.

The Premier League aims to change the rules later this year but it may come too late to preserve Everton's top-flight status.&nbsp; &nbsp;

Chelsea manager&nbsp;Mauricio Pochettino has claimed that he is here to make a genuine connection with the club's ardent fans by leading his young side to success&nbsp;rather than trying to win them over with pitchside gestures (referring to his celebrations post the win over Manchester United). Chelsea have had lots going on in the ongoing Premier League season and Pochettino, who got appointed in May last year, means business by taking his side to glory and winning over fans.&nbsp;

The 52-year-old Argentine stated that it was only normal for&nbsp;Chelsea&nbsp;fans to be in two minds with regard to him given his affiliation with rivals Tottenham Hotspur (who became consistent&nbsp;during his tenure). However, Pochettino feels&nbsp;it was a matter of time for him to build trust with The Blues' supporters.

It is to be noted that Pochettino guided the Spurs to the 2019 Champions League final and helped&nbsp;them become strong title-contenders going ahead, by finishing in the top 4 in the following four seasons before being sacked in 2019.&nbsp;

After Chelsea's dramatic 4-3 win over rivals Manchester United, on Thursday (April 4), Pochettino told reporters, "You need to convince. You arrive at&nbsp;Chelsea&nbsp;in a project that is different to the last 20 years. I played with my reputation to come here also, in a project that is to build a team with young talented players with the possibility of the potential to become top players."

"For us, we knew that was a massive challenge. A challenge of building a team, winning games, being competitive and to take the risk with the fans. But I'm not going to be a populist. I said from the beginning that I want to build a genuine relationship — not to kiss the badge or to do stupid things on the touchline to win the benefit of the fans," he further opined.

In the game versus the Red Devils, Pochettino raced onto the pitch after the final whistle with the scoreline reading 4-3 in his side's favour. Chelsea still have their task cut-out as they are at the 10th place, with nine games to play, with their upcoming fixture&nbsp;against bottom side Sheffield United, i.e. an away encounter, on Sunday (April 7).&nbsp;

Pochettino said, "What I want is to provide to the team the tools to win games, believe in ourselves and build a very good relationship. I am not here to be a populist or a hypocrite and say 'Oh I love the fans' because I know, always it is about time to build this relationship."

The manager wants more consistency from Chelsea&nbsp;following their thrilling win over United. "Three points in Sheffield. If we want to be close again, it's about winning... If we win all the games, for sure we will be in Europe. But it is about Sheffield now," Pochettino added.

Manchester&nbsp;United&nbsp;coach Erik Ten Hag expressed frustration and blamed costly mistakes and poor decision-making for his side conceding two stoppage-time goals against Chelsea to lose 4-3 on Thursday. Ten Hag said his team deserved to win at Stamford Bridge, after rallying from a two-goal deficit with a brace from Alejandro Garnacho and a goal from Bruno Fernandes.

Individual errors, however, led them to defeat just a few days after his team conceded a last-gasp equaliser to Brentford in a 1-1 draw to move further away from a top-four Premier League finish. Man U now sits at sixth with 48 points.

"I had the feeling we were dominating the game, got ourselves into a winning position, scoring great goals," Ten Hag told reporters. "Then, in stoppage time, we didn't manage to win. Of course it's frustrating."

"I'm super positive. I think he's going to fly and be so decisive."

"I think because he's so strong, how much he wants it when you talk to him and how excited he is about what is coming," Arteta said.

Asked on whether Saka will play in Saturday’s match at Amex Stadium, Arteta was optimistic and hinted that the English international could play a part. The 22-year-old English player was not part of his side’s 2-0 win over Luton Town and was nursing a hamstring injury.

"He wants to be there and he's getting better and better. It's normal, you have little niggles, you have kicks. He's gone through a lot of that in the last two or three years and look at the way he's performing," said&nbsp;Arteta.

Manchester United captain Bruno Fernandes has lamented that his side gave away the match despite being on the precipice of a famous victory. The Red Devils went down 3-4 against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge on Thursday (Apr 4) that gave a major jolt to their top-4 ambitions. United conceded twice in the stoppage time as Cole Palmer converted a penalty before a huge deflection via Scott McTominay allowed the former Manchester City player to complete his hattrick. "We had the game in our hands and we gave it away. It's frustrating. It's difficult to take. We had good control in the last few minutes. But they got two chances and scored two goals. From the corner, we have to be much quicker. We knew beforehand they take corners and throw-ins quickly," said Fernandes after the match. The midfielder admitted United were conceding too many shots on goal and that the focus now should be the crucial match against Liverpool on Sunday. "In the last games, we've conceded too many shots. It's about defending your box. It's a big game (on Sunday against Liverpool). I don't need to say anything (to my teammates). If I need to say anything it's a problem because this is a massive club." United vs Chelsea United started the game poorly as Chelsea raced to a two-goal advantage courtesy of tidy finishes from Conor Gallaher and Cole Palmer within the first 20 minutes. Having gone behind in front of a vociferous Stamford Bridge crowd, United were given a lucky break when Moises Caicedo gave away the ball high up the pitch, allowing Alejandro Garnacho to slot one past Petrovic. Within five minutes, Fernandes scored to equalise the game and head into halftime with the game finely poised. In the second half, Chelsea kept the lion's share of the possession but United struck on the counter yet again as Antony placed a perfect cross inside the six-yard box that was planted to the back of the net by Garnacho to secure a brace. However, that was to be the end of scoring for United who succumbed at the death. "Yes we started poor, kicking the ball away and defending poorly. But you saw we were dominating the game and it was brilliant how we played - we deserved to win the game. But, you cannot give it away like we did and we have to manage this game better. It is a team performance, you can point to one of the players but it is about team performance," said Hag. United have blow hot and cold throughout the season, having crashed out of the Champions League and Carabao Cup while failing to challenge for the title. The team's only hope of silverware this season is in the FA Cup where United face Coventry City in the semifinals at the Wembley, later this month. (With inputs from agencies)

'It's difficult to take': Bruno Fernandes laments after shocking late defeat against Chelsea

Mikel Arteta praised his bit-part players after they helped take Arsenal back to the top of the Premier League with a 2-0 victory over Luton Town on Wednesday.

Forward Reiss Nelson made his first league start of the season, Emile Smith Rowe his third and midfielder Thomas Partey was in the starting XI for the first time since August.

With Declan Rice, Jorginho and Gabriel Jesus left on the bench and Bukayo Saka not in the squad, however, Arsenal showed they have the strength in depth that was in doubt last season when their title hopes evaporated in the closing months.

Smith Rowe was especially impressive, having a hand in both goals, while Partey quickly got up to speed.

"I look at my players and squad in a different way. It's a joy to have them fit. If we want to utilise the squad and maximise what we have, they have to play," Arteta told reporters. "I think they did really well.

"I think we have won again with good confidence and I think they've been really important for us."

It was a bold move by Arteta to make five changes from the side that drew 0-0 with champions Manchester City on Sunday, although Rice and Gabriel Martinelli came off the bench late on.

"When they have the moment, they have to take it and they certainly did today," he said of his squad players. "They gave me a reason every day, regardless of the result because it's not the right decision and it's not down to the result.

"If we would have lost the game, it would have been down to making the changes. You have to do what is right and what they deserve, and I was full of confidence that they would respond."

Arsenal, who will relinquish top spot if Liverpool beat Sheffield United on Thursday, certainly look more capable of sustaining their title push.

"It's certainly different to what we had last season, and the big injuries that we had in the key moments of the season," Arteta said.

He reserved special praise for Smith Rowe.

"I love him as a player. It's a joy to watch him, how he moves, how he changes direction, how physical he was today as well without the ball," Arteta said.

"He won a lot of duels and he was thinking with that killer instinct to play forward and to make things happen. Today he helped us a lot to win the game."

Premier League: Mikel Arteta happy with back-up players keeping Arsenal in title race

Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag has made a bold statement on co-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s involvement as they get ready for the tough final few weeks of the season. On the eve of the Manchester United and Chelsea clash, Ten Hag stated that co-owners should not interrupt the current process which involves academy players coming through. United’s partial share were recently taken over by INEOS group’s Sir Jim Ratcliffe, who is now in charge of the club’s football business including transfer and academy policies.

<h2>Ten Hag makes bold statement</h2>

"I think you need to follow the process," Ten Hag told a news conference on Wednesday.

"We have good young players coming through. They are developing very well in their progress. We are in a good way, a good direction and we need to make the next steps. Don't interrupt this process."

"I have high standards and I would be disappointed if we didn't qualify," said Ten Hag.

Ever since the takeover from Ratcliffe’s group, the board has been involved in off-field activity, including the acquisition of INEOS co-founder John Reece and INEOS Sport chairman Rob Nevin. Both have been confirmed as board members. United are also set to have the services of Dan Ashworth who is on "gardening leave" from his role at Newcastle United.

The change in hierarchy is set to influence the working system of the club, for which Ten Hag insists it should not be interrupted.

Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola has hit back at Roy Keane for his remarks on striker Erling Haaland after the goalless draw against Arsenal on Sunday (Mar 31). City dropped two points at home in the fixture and were criticised by Keane who termed Haaland as a League 2 (fourth division of English football) striker for his unimpressive performance. However, Pep has now hit back at&nbsp;Keane, claiming he is a second or third-division manager.

<h2>Pep hits back at Keane</h2>

"I do not agree with him, absolutely not. He's a manager for the second or third league? I don't think so," said Guardiola.

"He's the best striker in the world and he helped us win what we won last season. The reason why we didn't create many chances [vs Arsenal] was not Erling, it's that we need more presence in the final third with more people,” Guardiola added.

Keane, while in the studio for Sky Sports after the City-Arsenal match claimed that Haaland was the worst player on the pitch. He also claimed that the Norwegian needs to improve his overall game if he has to achieve long-term success.

"He's almost like a League Two player - that's the way I look at him. His general play has to improve. It will do over the next few years. [He's a] brilliant striker but he has to improve his overall game,” Keane had said on Haaland after Manchester City’s goalless draw against Arsenal on Sunday.

City will host Aston Villa in a big battle at the Etihad Stadium on Wednesday (April 3) evening with the game having a bearing on both the title race and the race for the Champions League places. Aston Villa are third in the standings and could open a five-point gap with a win at the Etihad Stadium while a win for City will see them close the gap on Liverpool at the top of the Premier League standings.

As things stand, City are third in the Premier League with 64 points while Villa are fourth with 59 points. A win for Villa could also see them trim the gap between them and City to two points as they still have an outside chance of challenging for the Premier League title. If results go Villa’s way in the midweek, they could be within five points of Liverpool and still have to face the Reds and Arsenal in the Premier League.

Everton posted a loss of 89.1 million pounds ($112.52 million) for the 2022-23 season on Sunday, almost double the figure from a year earlier, as they await the outcome of an appeal against a second charge of breaching profit and sustainability rules (PSR).

In their latest accounts report released on Sunday, Everton attributed part of the losses to the suspension of all commercial sponsorship arrangements with Russian companies USM Holdings, MegaFon and Yota following Russia's invasion of Ukraine.

It marks the sixth straight year of losses for the Merseyside club, who posted a loss of 44.7 million pounds for 2021-2022, with their losses for the past three seasons amounting to just under 255 million pounds.

According to Premier League guidelines, clubs are at risk of breaching PSR if they incur more than 105 million pounds in losses over three seasons, or 35 million pounds annually.

Everton were deducted 10 points in November for a breach of PSR relating to the 2020-21 season, though the penalty was reduced to six points following an appeal.

The club were charged once again in January for violations of PSR in their financial records for a period beginning in 2019-20 and ending in 2022-23, with the hearing for that charge taking place last week.

Everton, who have played every season since 1954-55 in the top flight, narrowly avoided relegation in the 2022-23 season with a final-day victory over Bournemouth.

They are currently 16th with 25 points, three points above the relegation zone, and next travel to face Newcastle United on Tuesday.

Everton are also in the midst of protracted takeover talks with U.S. investment fund 777 Partners and are aiming to move to their new stadium ahead of the 2025-26 season.

Pep Guardiola has conceded that the title race was out of Manchester City's hands after the treble winners played an attritional draw against Arsenal at the Etihad Stadium on Sunday (March 31).&nbsp;

Guardiola was speaking at the post-match conference where he was quizzed if Liverpool were the clear favourite for the title.

“Yes. Always who is first is favourites, second is Arsenal and we are third,” the manager said.

Questioned if there were concerns that with only 27 points to play for, his team would fail to catch the two teams in front of him, the Man City boss gave a measured response.&nbsp;

“It’s not in our hands. All we can do is think of Aston Villa [on Wednesday]. If you are top of the league – like we’ve been before – you are favourites," he said.&nbsp;

“We prefer to win, obviously. We take the point. A tight game. I recognised my team, I’m so proud. They tried. Our intention was there. We’ll see what happens. We need to refresh our minds and legs before Aston Villa.”

Arsenal, playing away from home, opted for a defensive approach, often defending in a 5-3-2 shape which nullified the likes of Kevin de Bruyne and Bernardo Silva from operating between the lines and in half-spaces.&nbsp;

Man City striker Erling Haaland cut a sorry figure throughout the evening and could barely get touches inside the opposition penalty box. The centre-back pairing of Gabriel and William Saliba did a titanic job while Declan Rice in the midfield kept the Arsenal defence resolute.&nbsp;

However, the Reds kept their composure and continued to create chances before Luis Diaz pounced on a back pass from a Brighton defender and scored past Bart Verbruggen to equalise the scoreline.&nbsp;

Pep Guardiola has conceded that the title race was out of Manchester City's hands after the treble winners played an attritional draw against Arsenal at the Etihad Stadium on Sunday (March 31). Guardiola was speaking at the post-match conference where he was quizzed if Liverpool were the clear favourite for the title. “Yes. Always who is first is favourites, second is Arsenal and we are third,” the manager said. Questioned if there were concerns that with only 27 points to play for, his team would fail to catch the two teams in front of him, the Man City boss gave a measured response. “It’s not in our hands. All we can do is think of Aston Villa [on Wednesday]. If you are top of the league – like we’ve been before – you are favourites," he said. “We prefer to win, obviously. We take the point. A tight game. I recognised my team, I’m so proud. They tried. Our intention was there. We’ll see what happens. We need to refresh our minds and legs before Aston Villa.” Also read | Premier League: Manchester City, Arsenal play goalless draw, help Liverpool secure no. 1 spot City-Arsenal tie remains goalless The much-hyped title decider between the two teams was a rather dull affair with both managers refusing to take the extra risk to secure the three points. ‘It’s not in our hands’: Guardiola on Premier League title race after Arsenal draw

Arsenal nullified reigning champions Manchester City's attack for a 0-0 draw at the Etihad Stadium on Sunday (Mar 31), allowing Liverpool to take top spot on a pivotal day in the Premier League's three-way title race.&nbsp;

Mikel Arteta's Arsenal, in the hunt for their first league title in 20 years, are second in the table on 65 points with nine games remaining, while City are third with 64. Liverpool, on 67 points, claimed the lead with their 2-1 comeback victory over Brighton &amp; Hove Albion earlier on Sunday.

The match failed to live up to its billing as a battle of titans. City dominated possession with 72.2 per cent and came at Arsenal in waves.

But the visitors frustrated Pep Guardiola's men - including league-leading scorer Erling Haaland - with a textbook defensive display to extend their unbeaten league run to nine games and end their streak of eight losses at the Etihad.

Usually prolific Man City were restricted to just one shot on goal and it was the first time in 58 games that they have not scored at home.

"We want all the three points obviously, and we tried our best to get the win but we'll take the point and move on," Arsenal skipper Martin Odegaard said.

"We had to defend a lot, a bit more deep than we would have liked. It was a tight game and a tough one. So much can happen before the end of the season, we have to take it game-by-game."

Gabriel Jesus had Arsenal's best chances, firing two shots just wide in the first half and then narrowly failing to meet an inviting cross from Bukayo Saka.

City's best opportunity was Kevin De Bruyne's early corner kick that glanced off the shoulder of Nathan Ake but fell to keeper David Raya.

City parked themselves in Arsenal's half over a final tense few minutes but the visitors held strong.

The normally reliable Haaland failed to make contact with the ball when he seemed to have a simple finish from Josko Gvardiol's header late in the game, holding his head in his hands in frustration while the City fans groaned.

While Arsenal lacked the firepower of recent weeks - they had scored an astounding 33 goals in eight successive league victories - shutting down City was mission accomplished for the Gunners, who were clobbered 4-1 at the Etihad last season before City ran away with the title.

Aston Villa and Tottenham Hotspur won to boost their Champions League qualifying hopes while Manchester United had to settle for a point and Nottingham Forest drew to edge back out of the relegation zone in the Premier League on Saturday.

There was a scoring spree of 29 goals in dramatic action on Saturday which topped any Premier League matchday this season.

Moussa Diaby and Ezri Konsa netted in Villa's 2-0 victory over Wolverhampton Wanderers to keep their side in fourth place with 59 points from 30 matches, three points ahead of Spurs.

Tottenham came from behind to beat visitors Luton Town 2-1 and remain in fifth place, which could be enough for Champions League football next season, with a game in hand over Villa.

Sixth-placed United were fortunate to escape from struggling Brentford with a point after a wild finish in a 1-1 draw.

Villa's win against their Midlands rivals was no classic, but the first victory for manager Unai Emery over Wolves at the seventh attempt ended a two-game winless run in the league.

"We wanted to focus on our game and that is what we did. We got the three points and I got a goal myself, so happy days," Konsa said. "It's a massive win, with Tottenham's result earlier, we knew we had to win."

Son Heung-min's 86th minute strike earned Spurs all three points against Luton to keep the pressure on Villa.

Luton dropped back below Forest into the relegation zone as they were stung by South Korean Son's late winner.

Tahith Chong gave the visitors a surprise early lead at Spurs but Issa Kabore's own goal in the 51st levelled it up.

Tottenham captain Son then started and finished a flowing late move to bag his 160th goal for the club.

United substitute Mason Mount thought he had given the visitors an undeserved victory at Brentford when he slotted home his first goal for the Old Trafford team in the 96th minute.

But Kristoffer Ajer's 99th-minute equaliser salvaged a point for the Bees to dent United's Champions League qualifying hopes. The Old Trafford side are now 11 points adrift of Villa, albeit with a game in hand, and eight points behind Spurs.

"Even when we don't play well we have to win the game and we almost did. That is what disappoints me the most," said United boss Erik ten Hag. "We should all stand up and all take responsibility for this. We'll keep fighting."

Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta wants his team to enjoy the moment in Sunday's Premier League clash against a Manchester City side he believes have pushed the level of the game globally and who have the world's best coach in Pep Guardiola.

Arsenal, who face an anxious wait to see if Bukayo Saka, Gabriel Martinelli and Gabriel Magalhaes will be fit for the match, top the Premier League table with 10 games to go in a nail-biting title race on 64 points, while holders City are third on 63. Liverpool are second with 64.

A victory would end Arsenal's nine-year winless drought at the Etihad and be a massive boost to their title hopes.

"We've done a lot already to be in the position that we are and now we have to embrace and enjoy the moment and go for it," Arteta told reporters on Friday.

"(City) have raised the bar in this league, I think in football in general, to a level that hadn't been seen before," he added. "And that's the beauty of the sport, that makes you better, that challenges you more and you have to keep up with that pace. And that's what we are trying to do."

The Gunners have kept pace and more in recent weeks, winning their last eight league games while scoring an astounding 33 goals.

Arteta was an assistant under Guardiola at City before taking the managerial reins at Arsenal, and the two Spaniards' friendship goes back to their days as players. Sitting in opposing dugouts, however, has meant a change in their relationship.

"It has to change, (but) my admiration for him certainly not," Arteta said of Guardiola. "My opinion is he is the best coach in the world by a mile and he's one of the nicest people I have met in football.

"But our roles at the moment are where they are and it has to adapt to the situation. Probably I would prefer to (beat) somebody else that I don't have those feelings (of friendship), but it is not a choice. We both want to win. We know each other very well and I will prepare the game to win it."

Arsenal were the form team in the league heading into the international break, and Arteta hopes they can quickly regain any lost momentum.

"You cannot (maintain momentum), that momentum is gone," he said. "Now everybody's back, everybody's so positive about what is coming and looking forward to it.

"I was watching everybody walk in the building and I love the energy," he added. "I loved their smiles, they were glad to be back. They were actually wanting to train yesterday."

Arteta revealed forwards Saka and Martinelli and centre back Gabriel have not trained since the team returned from the break, but that there is a chance they could play.

Saka withdrew from the England squad with a hamstring injury, while Martinelli (foot injury) and Gabriel (Achilles) were not involved with Brazil.

"There is a chance," Arteta said. "They haven't trained but tomorrow we have another session."

Arteta supported Ben White's decision to make himself unavailable for England selection when asked about the criticism the defender has received.

"I think he has received a lot of love and just have to see what his team mates and everybody in football thinks of him, people have respected his decision and hopefully one day he is prepared to represent his country in the best possible way," said Arteta. "But that's completely up to him."

Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag has made a bold statement on his future at the club as the pressure continues to mount on the gaffer. Ten Hag, in his second season with United, is struggling to keep pace in the Champions League qualification race while also facing exit in the group stage of the same competition earlier in this season. Gareth Southgate has been linked with the high-profile job and Ten Hag addressed the links in his pre-match press conference ahead of the Brentford game on Friday (Mar 29).

"You know when you are working at Manchester United, there will always be noise and rumours around the club, team, manager, players, there will always be issues," Ten Hag said while addressing the press conference on Friday.

"You [the media] like it to talk about [speculation], but of course, we have different interests, but we are not focusing on that. We are focusing on the process to make the team play better, to improve the way of playing,” Ten Hag added.

"So yes, I do not care about it."

Alonso, a former Liverpool player has been a sensation with his coaching technique leading Leverkusen to the top of the Bundesliga and the quarterfinal of the Europa League. The Spaniard is also attracting interest from Bayern Munich and Real Madrid with the former having asked Thomas Tuchel to leave at the end of the current campaign.

The sanctions will add more problems for the forward who has been addicted to betting.

<h2>Tonali in more trouble</h2>

"Sandro continues to fully comply with relevant investigations and he retains the club's full support.

"Due to this ongoing process, Sandro and Newcastle United are unable to offer further comment at this time," the statement further read.

<h2>What is the controversy?</h2>

In October 2022, FIGC (Italian FA) suspended Tonali for 18 months but eight of those months were commutable by attending treatment for gambling addiction and making at least 16 public appearances at centres for young soccer players and associations for recovering addicts. The ban was imposed for alleged involvement in illegal betting activity during his time at AC Milan where he won the Serie A title.

The latest betting charges from the FA come for placing bets between 12 August and 12 October 2023. This comes as a surprise for the player who only made his move to English football in July and was constantly active in betting activity. The 23-year-old has until April 5 to respond to the charges imposed on him by the FA.

The FIGC suspension came as a huge blow to Newcastle United, having secured the signing of Tonali on a $70-million deal from AC Milan.

The ban imposed in October has seen Tonali’s Newcastle season come to an end while its extension to international matches will also see him miss the Euro 2024 for Italy. His suspension in October meant he became the second Italian player to be banned from football in a betting scandal that came to light. Juventus' Nicolo Fagioli was suspended for seven months by the FIGC's disciplinary tribunal in October 2023.

Leicester City have issued two legal proceedings against the Premier League and the English Football League (EFL), the Championship club said on Friday after being referred to a commission over alleged breaches in spending rules.

Leicester, who were relegated from the top flight last season, could face a points deduction after the Premier League referred them to an independent commission on Thursday.

The Premier League said Leicester had failed to submit their audited financial accounts, with the club saying they were "surprised and disappointed" by the decision as they were no longer a top-flight club.

"Leicester City has been compelled today to issue two urgent legal proceedings against the Premier League and the EFL," the club said in a statement. "LCFC will be seeking that each of these proceedings is determined by an appropriate and fully independent legal panel."

Leicester also said the EFL had issued a public notification that they had been placed under a registration embargo pursuant to its Profit &amp; Sustainability Rules (PSR).

"The EFL is aware that LCFC has disputed the EFL's entitlement to impose this constraint, which is both restrictive and premature, with more than a quarter of the club's 2023-24 reporting period remaining," it added.

Leicester had posted a club record loss of 92.5 million pounds ($116.53 million) for the 2021-22 season while they had posted a pre-tax loss of 33.1 million pounds the year before.

Premier League clubs are allowed to lose 105 million pounds over three seasons. Leicester have not yet made their accounts for the last season public.

If found guilty, Leicester could become the third club to face a points deduction for breaching Premier League spending rules after Everton and Nottingham Forest.

Leicester were Premier League champions in 2015-16, beating overwhelming odds to lift the title, while they also won the FA Cup in 2021.

But the club had a poor season in 2022-23, eventually finishing 18th to drop down to the second-tier.

They are well poised to make a return to the top flight with Enzo Maresca's side level on points with leaders Leeds United but with a game in hand.

Fans of the Chelsea Football Club have started showing more and more dissent towards Todd Bohely - the American owner of the London-based club. In a letter to Bohely, the&nbsp;Chelsea Supporters Trust (CST) said the club had become a "laughing stock on and off the pitch" since being bought by him and Clearlake Capital in 2022.&nbsp;

The supporters have already warned that a&nbsp;slide towards “irreversible toxicity” in the stands is likely to end in protests against the ownership.&nbsp;

“The current feeling amongst Chelsea supporters in our opinion is at its lowest since the early 1980s,” the CST said.

The low confidence of the supporters was evident during the recent FA Cup match against Leicester City in which forward Raheem Sterling was booed after struggling massively in the game.&nbsp;

Meanwhile, manager Mauricio Pochettino and Boehly were booed and abused heavily during the 2-2 draw at Brentford earlier this month.

“The views of a quiet few became a vocal expression of a larger number of Chelsea supporters present at the [Brentford] game. Much of our recent dialogue with supporters reveals a lack of belief in the decision-makers at the top of our club," the letter added.&nbsp;

"The current mood amongst supporters is critically low and cannot be ignored. The feeling that the club has become a ‘laughing stock’, both on and off the pitch, is growing."

Having taken over a struggling Chelsea side, Pochettino has managed a mixed bag of results so far. His side went down against Liverpool in the League Cup final in the dying seconds of the game whilst&nbsp;qualifying for the FA Cup semis. However, the club remains 11th in the Premier League points table which has drawn the ire of supporters.&nbsp;

Apart from booing the upper hierarchy, the fans have started singing former manager Jose Mourinho's name, suggesting that the Portuguese be brought back to the club to steer the ship.&nbsp;

With only 11 games to go in the PL season, the Blues are nowhere near contention to play European football next year. Failing to do so means it will be the second consecutive season the club has missed out on continental football.&nbsp;

Under previous owner Roman Abramovich, Chelsea had the enviable record of coming out with at least one trophy in most of the seasons. However, since his departure, the club has been a mess, both on and off the pitch.&nbsp;

Premier League giants Manchester United are set for a summer overhaul as they try to revamp their squad for next season. Sir Jim Ratcliffe, the new co-owner of Manchester United is all set to splash the cash in the market with big-name players available. Being one of the biggest clubs in the world and an imposing financial power, United are linked with Real Madrid-bound Kylian Mbappe who is set to leave Paris Saint-Germain this summer.

Both the&nbsp;links were&nbsp;weaved by Ratcliffe as he opened up on the transfer policy which could see United land other targets. According to Ratcliffe, he would rather find the next Mbappe than spend on the Frenchman.

<h2>Ratcliffe opens up on Mbappe's transfer</h2>

"I'd rather find the next Mbappe than spend a fortune trying to buy success," Ratcliffe told The Geraint Thomas Cycling Club Podcast. "It's not that clever, is it, buying Mbappe, in a way?"

"Anyone could figure that one out. Much more challenging is to find the next Mbappe or Jude Bellingham or the next Roy Keane."

"It's not where our focus is, the solution isn't spending a lot of money on a couple of great players. They've done that over the last 10 years.”

United’s summer rebuilding is already on the way as they have Sir Dave Brailsford in charge of overseeing the creation of the new-look football operation at Old Trafford and has already brought in Omar Berrada from Man City to become the club's chief executive.

"The first thing we need to do is get the right people in the right boxes who are managing and organising the club and make sure we get recruitment right. It's such a vital part of running a football club today, finding new players,” Ratcliffe added.

<h2>United’s quest for silverware</h2>

United had a good weekend having seen progression to the FA Cup semifinal where they will meet Championship outfit Coventry. The emphatic 3-2 win against Liverpool coupled with a favourable draw should see the Red Devils compete for silverware at the end of the season. Their Champions League quest also had a boost with both Spurs and Aston Villa dropping points in the Premier League. They currently sit sixth in the table and will need a good run at the end of the season to reach the biggest club competition in the world.
