Premier League: Manchester United to part ways with Jadon Sancho despite successful Dortmund spell - Report

Chelsea boss Mauricio Pochettino has hinted that he might be sacked by the board despite a convincing win against cross-city rivals Tottenham Hotspur on Thursday (May 2).

Chelsea boss Mauricio Pochettino has hinted that he might be sacked by the board despite a convincing win against cross-city rivals Tottenham Hotspur on Thursday (May 2). In a post-match interview, an exasperated Pochettino had enough of the questions pointed his way regarding his future at the London-based club. Having replaced Graham Potter, Pochettino is yet to make a mark with the brand of football his side is playing. With a second consecutive season outside Europe looking likely, the pressure is mounting on the Argentine manager. "Enough is enough. All managers need time to translate their ideas and philosophy. It's not my decision [if I get time]. I don't know [if I am being judged by the owners]," said Pochettino, whose body language suggested the Chelsea board was not happy with him. "It's difficult to see every single week that I am under scrutiny and judgement. It's not my decision whether to be here or not to be here [next season]," he added. On being pressed about if he was being let go by Chelsea at the end of the season, Pochettino failed to give a clear response. "I can't say nothing. What I can say is if after the decision, if we want to match the history of Chelsea it's a lot of work to do. We'll see if we have time to build this way." Apart from booing Pochettino and demanding his sacking, the Chelsea fans chanted against owner Todd Boehly and sang former manager Jose Mourinho's name. Quizzed about the reception he received, Pochettino admitted he did not feel loved by Chelsea fans. Ahead of their important Premier League home game versus Wolverhampton Wanderers&nbsp;on Saturday (May 4), Manchester City were dealt a huge blow as goalkeeper Ederson is set to miss the game due to injury concerns. Ederson was subbed off at half-time in his side's 2-0 win at Nottingham Forest last weekend after sustaining a shoulder injury&nbsp;following a collision with Wily Boly of Nottingham. He didn't make a return and later left the stadium in a sling.

While the Athletic, via GOAL, has stated that Ederson's injury isn't very serious and he is expected to return during the end of the Premier League season, he is likely to miss the upcoming game versus the Wolves -- due to the lack of gap between the two games.

The Cityzens will feel the 30-year-old's absence as they seek an unprecedented Premier League four-peat. City are a point behind Arsenal, i.e. the Gunners, in the Premier League standings with a game in hand as well. Thus, the upcoming games for the Cityzens are very crucial to surpass the Gunners.&nbsp;

Premier League: Big blow for Man City as goalkeeper Ederson to miss Wolves clash - Reports

Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag said he was happy to see Jadon Sancho, who is on loan from United at Borussia Dortmund, thrive. The 24-year-old winger produced a fine performance in Dortmund's 1-0 win in the first leg of their Champions League semi-final against Paris St Germain on Wednesday (May 1).

The England international joined United from Dortmund for 85 million euros ($90.87 million) in August 2021, signing a five-year deal, but he failed to hold down a regular spot and returned to Germany after becoming embroiled in a row with Ten Hag. "So let's say this: yesterday he played very good and he's a very good player. Yesterday he showed why Man United bought him and he showed he represents a high value for Man United, which is good," Ten Hag said. "I'm happy for Jadon, for the performance yesterday, and we'll see what is going to happen in the future." Also read | UCL: Dortmund coach Edin Terzic hails 'Big stage' player Jadon Sancho for win over PSG in first leg 'Work to do' As for United, Ten Hag said they had work to do in the transfer market in the summer transfer window if the team was to get back to its best. United are sixth in the Premier League standings with 54 points, 13 fewer than fourth-placed Aston Villa and six below Tottenham Hotspur in fifth place. The Old Trafford side have four matches left in the league season. Ten Hag flagged that United had suffered an alarming number of injuries, but they would still need new recruits after falling short of expectations. "(There's) always a lot of work, it's normal when you go into a transfer window, but the injuries had a big impact," Ten Hag told reporters ahead of Monday's Premier League clash at 14th-placed Crystal Palace. "We know also we are still below the levels from the expectations Man United has so we have to catch up and I'm now going into my fifth window — two windows quite okay, two we missed — so we have to make new improvements to the squad. "But here is a base of this squad that is very good." Midfielder Bruno Fernandes is a doubt for the trip to Selhurst Park, while forward Marcus Rashford's availability is still unclear. Rashford picked up an injury in the FA Cup semi-final against Championship side Coventry City, which United won on penalties after surrendering a 3-0 lead at Wembley. The forward, 26, has since missed the games against Sheffield United and Burnley. "Scott (McTominay) didn't train so far this week but I expect him back in training on Saturday and we have to see if he's 100% available or for a part of the game," the Dutchman said. "After the game (Burnley), we had an issue with Bruno. He is a doubt for Monday. We all know Bruno, never rule him out for any game. He will do his best to be available. "Jonny (Evans) returned today for team training. Tomorrow we are off and then two days until the game. (Anthony) Martial was partly in team training. "I can't tell (about Rashford). His issue hasn't healed so far."

Tottenham Hotspur, who are already without defender Destiny Udogie, have been dealt a fresh blow as defender Ben Davies will also be out for the rest of the season with a calf injury, manager Ange Postecoglou said on Wednesday. Fifth-placed Spurs are still clinging on in the battle to finish in the top-four in the Premier League. They are on 60 points, seven behind Aston Villa, with two games in hand in the race for Champions League qualification.

Forward Timo Werner has also been ruled out of Thursday's trip to his former club Chelsea, who are ninth, 12 points behind Spurs. The 28-year-old German will miss the remaining games of the season after being injured against Arsenal on Sunday.

"Timo (Werner) with his hamstring -- he's only got two-and-a-half weeks to go so he will miss the rest of the season," the Australian manager told reporters. "Ben Davies got a calf injury from the (Arsenal) game and he'll miss the rest of the season as well."

Werner has scored two goals and registered three assists in 13 league games since signing on loan in January from Bundesliga side RB Leipzig. Versatile Welshman Davies, 31, has made 19 appearances for Spurs this season. Tottenham are hoping to bounce back from Sunday's 3-2 home defeat by Arsenal but face tough challenges ahead with fixtures against Liverpool and Manchester City to follow after the Chelsea clash.

Postecoglou's side had started the season strong but suffered their first loss at home to Chelsea in November. Asked if his side had shown progression in his first year in charge, the coach said: "Clearly, as clear as you want it to be, 20-20, definitely, 100 percent.

"What I see is us playing football, measuring ourselves against the best. My players have got real belief in what we are doing. That's all I need to see."

Attacking midfielder James Maddison was injured in the home defeat by Chelsea and since returning in January he has struggled to reach the heights he hit in Tottenham's impressive start to the campaign.

Asked about Maddison's form, Postecoglou said: "We've had a very disruptive season. He's another one that's had disruptions. First 10 games, he played every game and he was going really well. Then he picked up an injury, missed a lot of football and he's come back but we've had challenges as a team. "We haven't had any real fluency in terms of cohesion, games and starting line-ups. He's had to battle through that like a lot of them."

Premier League clubs voted in a historic decision on Monday (April 29) after they agreed to implement a spending cap to complete the economic and legal analysis needed for such a model.

Premier League clubs voted in a historic decision on Monday (April 29) after they agreed to implement a spending cap to complete the economic and legal analysis needed for such a model. The spending cap model will be presented to clubs before a final vote at the league's Annual General Meeting in June. The decision will bridge the gap between the spending power of big spending rich clubs and low-budget clubs in the Premier League and could come into effect from the 2025-26 season. Premier League clubs go for historic vote "We will obviously wait to see further details of these specific proposals, but we have always been clear that we would oppose any measure that would place a 'hard' cap on player wages," the Professional Footballers' Association (PFA) said. "There is an established process in place to ensure that proposals like this, which would directly impact our members, have to be properly consulted on," the statement added. The new spending cap rule will replace the now-existing Profitability and Sustainability Rules (PSR) from 2025-26. The new rule will prevent mega-rich clubs from overspending in upcoming seasons helping bring parity for clubs on the pitch. ALSO READ | ICC Men's T20 World Cup 2024: Latest updates of all squads named so far The cap, discussed at a Premier League shareholders' meeting on Monday, would be based on how much money the lowest-earning club in the English top flight makes from television rights and could come into effect as early as the 2025-26 season. Of the present 20 clubs in the Premier League, 16 voted in favour of the decision while Chelsea abstained. Manchester City, Manchester United and Aston Villa dissented from the decision. Premier League clubs had agreed in principle to introduce new financial rules next season, voting in April for squad cost ratio rules to replace PSR, which allows clubs to lose £105 million ($131.93 million) in a three-season period. Clubs will likely be limited to spending 85% of their revenue on transfers, wages and agents' fees if the new rules are adopted at the AGM in June.

'It's gone slightly wrong': Gary Neville opines on consequences of Jurgen Klopp's exit plans from Liverpool

Arsenal held on to beat battling local rivals Tottenham Hotspur 3-2 away and move four points clear at the top of the Premier League after an emphatic first-half display and a nervous second period in an electric derby atmosphere on Sunday.

An own goal by Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg and efforts from Bukayo Saka and Kai Havertz put the Gunners in control at halftime and although Spurs fought back through Cristian Romero's strike and a Son Heung-min penalty the visitors claimed the three points.

The victory moved Mikel Arteta's Gunners further ahead of second-placed champions Manchester City, who have two games in hand and visit lowly Nottingham Forest later on Sunday.

Liverpool are in third spot a point behind City but like Arsenal having played 35 matches with three games left.

Tottenham's defeat hit their hopes of playing Champions League football next season as they stand seven points off fourth-placed Aston Villa, albeit still with two games in hand.

Arsenal arrived at the home of their neighbours desperate for a win to boost their title challenge and got the perfect start after 15 minutes when midfielder Hojbjerg headed the ball back into his own net from a corner.

Tottenham reacted to going behind and defender Romero hit the outside of the post from a James Maddison cross.

The hosts thought they had equalised when Micky van de Ven placed the ball past keeper David Raya after Pedro Porro's strike deflected to him and the stadium erupted but after a long delay the goal was ruled out by VAR for offside.

The Gunners extended their lead just before the half hour mark, though, when a counter-attack was calmly finished by Saka after Spurs' Dejan Kulusevski slipped in the Arsenal area.

Havertz added the third with a simple header from a corner that eluded the home defence and the visitors were flying.

It was the first time shell-shocked Tottenham had fallen 3-0 behind at home to bitter rivals Arsenal since 1959.

Spurs replaced Rodrigo Bentancur with Pape Matar Sarr at halftime and they pulled a goal back through Romero just past the hour after Raya played the ball straight to him and the Argentine found the bottom corner to lift the home fans.

Tottenham were awarded a penalty after a VAR check in the 87th minute after Declan Rice kicked Ben Davies just inside the area when the Arsenal midfielder tried to clear the ball and Son stepped up to convert the spot-kick as the noise level rose.

Spurs piled on the pressure but could not breach the Arsenal defence again and the visitors were left to celebrate the win and a healthy lead in the thrilling title race.

Premier League: VIDEO | 'There is going to be fire,' Liverpool's Mo Salah on feud with manager Jurgen Klopp

Jurgen Klopp said he was "not in the mood" to discuss Liverpool's Premier League title chances after a 2-2 draw at West Ham on Saturday effectively snuffed out their hopes.

Just weeks ago Liverpool were on course for a quadruple of trophies but Klopp's final season at Anfield is fizzling out.

The latest blow came at the London Stadium, where the visitors realistically had to win to have any chance of staying in the hunt alongside Arsenal and Manchester City.

A goal from Andy Robertson and an own goal from West Ham goalkeeper Alphonse Areola put Liverpool 2-1 in front but Michail Antonio powered a header past Allison Becker to pull David Moyes's side level.

The single point leaves Liverpool third in the table on 75 points, one behind defending champions City, who have two games in hand. Leaders Arsenal are two points clear of Liverpool, with a game in hand.

Klopp, whose side were dumped out of the FA Cup and Europa League at the quarter-final stage, brushed aside questions about the title race in the aftermath of the disappointing draw.

"I'm not in the mood to talk about that to be honest or look at that at all," he told TNT Sports.

"We had to win here, we knew that, and we didn't, and now we have a little bit more time between now and the next game. We try to get the boys ready again and we will go again."

The German bemoaned his side's squandered chances, which have cost them dear in recent weeks.

"When we are 2-1 up we could control it, and still, as I said, in a lot of moments playing really well but the final situation we didn't take," he said. "That has been the story of the last four weeks."

<h2>Missed chances</h2>

Liverpool were on the front foot from the start at the London Stadium but energy quickly drained out of the encounter and the atmosphere went flat.

West Ham midfielder Lucas Paqueta was lucky to escape punishment after a reckless early tackle on Alexis Mac Allister.

The contest livened up in the closing minutes of the first period, with Luis Diaz hitting the post for the visitors after good work down the left.

Two minutes later Liverpool goalkeeper Allison was called into action, making a sharp save from Jarrod Bowen's deflected shot.

But he was powerless to keep out Bowen's header from the resulting corner, which took the England forward to 16 Premier League goals this season.

Liverpool emerged for the second half with renewed intent and Ryan Gravenberch fired over from just inside the box.

They were back on terms in the 48th minute when Robertson squeezed a shot past Areola at his near post.

Gravenberch attempted a flick minutes later but the chance went begging.

Angelo Ogbonna then made a crucial block as the game opened up before Trent Alexander-Arnold's shot from distance was saved.

Liverpool got their noses in front in the 65th minute after Cody Gakpo's shot hit Ogbonna, Tomas Soucek and Areola on its way into the net.

The visitors had chances to pull further ahead but Antonio headed home a Bowen cross in the 77th-minute to level.

Klopp threw on Mohamed Salah, Darwin Nunez and Joe Gomez after the equaliser in a desperate search for a winner.

Salah, who appeared to direct angry words at Klopp before he was introduced, raced forward as the clock ticked down.

His pass fell behind Nunez but Harvey Elliott picked up the ball, rattling a shot off the crossbar -- Liverpool's final clear chance.

West Ham, eighth in the Premier League table, face a battle in their bid to secure European football next season.

Moyes last season delivered the club's first major trophy for 43 years but has been coy over his future.

"When we are 2-1 up we could control it, and still, as I said, in a lot of moments playing really well but the final situation we didn't take," he said. "That has been the story of the last four weeks." Missed chances Liverpool were on the front foot from the start at the London Stadium but energy quickly drained out of the encounter and the atmosphere went flat. His pass fell behind Nunez but Harvey Elliott picked up the ball, rattling a shot off the crossbar -- Liverpool's final clear chance. The Premier League title race will have a decisive next&nbsp;couple of&nbsp;days as Arsenal play Tottenham Hotspur in the North London Derby on Sunday (April 28). With the Gunners sitting top of the Premier League and Spurs hunting for a place in the Champions League next season, the clash on Sunday will have too many things riding on it. However, Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has insisted that they&nbsp;will have to&nbsp;keep their local rivalry aside and focus on the Premier League title race.

<h2>Arteta urges to keep rivalry&nbsp;aside</h2>

"I&nbsp;think&nbsp;it's&nbsp;an unbelievable atmosphere. We played there a few times already&nbsp;and&nbsp;it's&nbsp;a great place to play football. We have to put the rivalry aside&nbsp;and&nbsp;we have to&nbsp;live the game with passion and the intensity that it demands rather than anything special because the game has everything you need to enjoy it,”&nbsp;Arteta said in the pre-match press conference on Friday.

The clash will be the second meeting between the sides&nbsp;this season, with Spurs drawing 2-2 against Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium&nbsp;back&nbsp;in September. Interestingly, it was the Spurs who were&nbsp;top&nbsp;of the league at that time. The fixture will be the first of the three for&nbsp;Spurs&nbsp; who&nbsp;face Chelsea and Liverpool in the consequent weeks.

A win for Arsenal will see them remain top of the league at least until next week&nbsp;with&nbsp; Manchester City in action later that day against Nottingham Forest. Liverpool, also in the hunt for the Premier&nbsp;League&nbsp;will be in action Saturday.

Phil Foden struck twice as Manchester&nbsp;City&nbsp;stepped up their bid for a fourth Premier League crown in a row with a ruthless 4-0 victory at Brighton &amp; Hove Albion on Thursday. A day after Liverpool's title challenge suffered a huge blow with a 2-0 defeat at Everton,&nbsp;City&nbsp;kept up the pressure on leaders Arsenal with a dominant display that left them one point behind the London club with a game in hand.

"The statement is three points,"&nbsp;City&nbsp;manager Pep Guardiola told Sky Sports. "There are five games left, we know the margins are so tight. We have to win every one. Each game we are closer." He added that it remains very much a three-team race. "What happened to Liverpool, two defeats in a row, it can happen to Arsenal, it can happen to us," Guardiola said. Foden scored his first with a deflected free kick and Brighton defensive errors allowed Bernardo Silva to win the ball and set up the England midfielder to sweep a shot into the bottom corner before halftime. "With Kev's first goal and a bit lucky with my second goal, it settled us a little bit and we grew into the game, in the first half was frightening with the way we attacked," Foden said.

Foden, whose hat-trick led&nbsp;City&nbsp;to a 4-1 win over Aston Villa three weeks ago, became only the third player to score 50 top-flight goals under manager Pep Guardiola aged 23 or younger, after Lionel Messi and Haaland. Julian Alvarez completed the rout midway through the second half and Brighton, who remained 11th in the table, never looked capable of launching a fightback.

Manchester&nbsp;City&nbsp;are unbeaten in 30 games in all competitions with 24 wins and six draws, making them the third English top-flight side to reach that landmark after Nottingham Forest (40 in 1978) and Manchester United (34 in 1993-94 and 33 in 1998-99).

Their last loss excluding penalty shootouts was against Aston Villa in early December. Brighton's best chance came when&nbsp;City&nbsp;keeper Ederson gifted them a late opportunity when he raced out of his box, only to fire the ball straight at Odeluga Offiah who failed to take advantage.

With four matches to go in the season, Klopp has a tough list of fixtures to negotiate as they face West Ham on Saturday, Spurs (home), Aston Villa in the penultimate week before ending the season against Wolves at Anfield.

'It's the best job in the world': Departing Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp to Arne Slot

Premier League (PL) side Manchester United's forward Marcus Rashford has called out the criticism directed towards him in the ongoing season as abuse. Rashford hasn't been in best of&nbsp;form this season, scoring just seven goals in 26 games he has played.

Overall, Rashford has scored just eight goals in 40 games in the ongoing year. Notably, he had signed a new contract to stay with the side for three more years earlier in the summer. Rashford's comments came as a reply to a post on the social media handle X&nbsp;criticising&nbsp;the treatment to Rashford as cruel.

The 26-year-old England international, in reply, wrote: "It is abuse and has been for months. Enough is enough."

Rashford, however, isn't having the best of the season both on and off the field. He was benched by manager Erik ten Hag for two games after a poor outing during Manchester United's 1-0 defeat against Newcastle in December.

In November, his birthday celebration after a humiliating 3-0 defeat against arch-rivals Manchester City was termed unacceptable by the Dutch manager.

In January too, he was reprimanded by Ten Hag for missing a practice ahead of FA Cup fixture against Newport County. He had missed the training because of his trip to a nightclub in Belfast, Northern Ireland a night before.

Currently, Rashford is out with injury he had suffered during the win over Coventry in FA Cup semifinal. He had also missed the match against Sheffield United on Wednesday (Apr 24) which Manchester had won 4-2.

Manchester United are sixth on the points table with 16 wins, five draws and 12 losses from 33 games played. They still have five more games left in the season and make a push for top four to get a place in next year's Champions League.

Dutch club Feyenoord coach Arne Slot has confirmed that his club is in talks with Liverpool for his potential transfer. This comes after Liverpool identified Slot to replaced Jurgen Klopp who'll be leaving the club after the ongoing season. Klopp was at the helm at Liverpool for almost nine years.

Slot spoke about the negotiations ahead of Feyenoord's game on Thursday (Apr 25) and said: "The only thing I can say about it is that the clubs are in negotiations. And then you sit in the waiting room and wait for what will come out."

"It seems clear to me that I would like to go to Liverpool. Now I'm waiting to see whether the clubs reach an agreement. I'm very confident in that," he added.

ESPN has reported that Feyenoord expect to be paid about $110 million (£9 million) for the transfer but Slot said that he'd be happy if two teams can come to an amicable solution.

"The clubs have to do their job," he said. "And then I'm waiting and as the 'main character.' I have to respect that. It will undoubtedly become clear in the coming days."

After Feyenoord's 3-1 victory, he further confirmed that an offer from Liverpool had already been made and said: "I have the impression that a good offer has already been made and that Feyenoord can make, as it seems, the best-paid transfer for a coach in The Netherlands."

Notably, Slot signed with Feyenoord on a three-year deal after rejecting offers from Leeds United and Tottenham Hotspur in the English Premier League (EPL). Earlier, Liverpool's Virgil Van Dijk also threw his weight behind the Netherlands international becoming the next Liverpool manager.

"I think [with] the way he plays and the philosophy he has that he could be a Liverpool coach. Only in my opinion, what I also read and hear, of course, is that it is far from finalised," Van Dijk told Viaplay.

"There is&nbsp;a real&nbsp;discussion for the new manager about what the future holds for Mo Salah -&nbsp;it's&nbsp;the first time&nbsp;we've&nbsp;asked that question. He only has a year to go on his contract.

Speaking of Nunez, Carra thinks he has&nbsp;been given&nbsp;enough time to impress and has failed on big occasions&nbsp;including&nbsp;scoring at Old Trafford and in the derby on Wednesday. He also thinks Liverpool will not challenge for the Premier League title if they stay with Nunez as the center forward.

But after two years, when Liverpool are going for the title or in big games, you need your man to score at Old Trafford or Goodison Park.&nbsp;This&nbsp;is the business end.&nbsp;He's&nbsp;ground to a halt.

Premier League: Liverpool legend makes bold statement on Mohamed Salah, Darwin Nunez future at club

Liverpool's Premier League title bid suffered a devastating blow in a 2-0 defeat at Merseyside rivals Everton, while Manchester United spared Erik ten Hag's blushes with a 4-2 victory against lowly Sheffield United on Wednesday. Jurgen Klopp's side were beaten at Goodison Park for the first time in 14 years in a brutal setback to their hopes of catching leaders Arsenal.

Jarrad Branthwaite put Everton ahead in the 27th minute as the defender prodded the ball under Liverpool keeper Alisson Becker via the post after the Reds made a hash of clearing a free-kick. With Liverpool's Mohamed Salah once again struggling to convert chances to equalise, Everton striker Dominic Calvert-Lewin delivered the knockout punch with a 58th-minute header.

Second-placed Liverpool remain three points behind Arsenal, who have a vastly superior goal difference, with both sides having four games left. Third-placed Manchester City, who visit Brighton on Saturday, will be crowned English champions for an unprecedented fourth successive season if they win their last six matches.

Liverpool have reportedly opened talks with Feyenoord's Arne Slot to take over from Klopp, whose long goodbye looks set to end with a whimper. It hardly the scenario Klopp envisioned when Liverpool beat Chelsea in the League Cup final in February. Back then, his team were in contention for a quadruple that would have capped his final season in spectacular fashion.

Instead, the end of Klopp's nine-year reign is becoming a damp squib, with Liverpool knocked out of the FA Cup quarter-finals by Manchester United and losing to Atalanta at the same stage of the Europa League as their title challenge evaporates.

"Arsenal and Manchester City must have a very bad moment," Klopp said when asked if Liverpool can win the title. "I don't know. I can only apologise for today to the people. We should have done better but we didn't."

At Old Trafford, Ten Hag's side twice trailed to the league's bottom club before Bruno Fernandes came to his beleaguered manager's aid in the second half.

Jayden Bogle put the Blades ahead and although Harry Maguire equalised before half-time, Ben Brereton Diaz restored the visitors' advantage soon after the interval.

<h2>- Fernandes to the rescue -</h2>

Fernandes bailed out Ten Hag with a penalty equaliser before the Portugal midfielder's long-range rocket put United in front with nine minutes left. Rasmus Hojlund got United's fourth to ensure they could finally enjoy a first league win in five games since beating Everton on March 9.

It was a temporary reprieve for Ten Hag, who hopes to salvage sixth-placed United's dismal season by winning the FA Cup and finishing high enough to qualify for the Europa League. Ten Hag endured stinging criticism after United stumbled into the FA Cup final with a spluttering penalty-shootout win after blowing a three-goal lead against second-tier Coventry on Sunday.

"I think we played quite well, also creating many more chances. Many positives. But also negatives. Conceding two goals from giveaways. It's unacceptable. We want to play dynamic, attacking football," Ten Hag said.

Referee Stuart Attwell was embroiled in further controversy after contentiously disallowing a Wolves goal in Bournemouth's 1-0 win at Molineux. Attwell was already in the spotlight for his role as VAR in denying Nottingham Forest three penalties in Sunday's 2-0 defeat at Everton, which led Forest to insinuate bias as he supports relegation rivals Luton.

This time, he adjudged Matheus Cunha to have fouled Justin Kluivert in an off-the-ball incident in the build up to Hwang Hee-chan's second-half equaliser, which looked to have cancelled out Antoine Semenyo's opener. Attwell remained in the thick of the action as he showed a straight red card to Bournemouth defender Milos Kerkez for a foul on Matt Doherty.

Jean-Philippe Mateta scored for a fifth consecutive home match to fire Crystal Palace to a 2-0 win over Newcastle. Mateta broke the deadlock in the 55th minute and added the second late on to end Newcastle's four-match unbeaten run and damage their prospects of qualifying for Europe.

Premier League: Liverpool's title bid rocked by Everton, Manchester United survive Blades scare

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp admitted that his side weren't good enough on Wednesday (Apr 24) against Everton and now need a crisis at Arsenal and Manchester City for a chance to win the Premier League (PL) title. Second-placed Liverpool lost 2-0 against Everton in Merseyside derby.

Speaking after the match, Klopp said: "I don't know why I need to answer the question, but I know how it works," Klopp said. "You can see the table. We need a crisis at Arsenal and City, so they need to not win games as we haven't done tonight. Arsenal and City must have a very bad moment.

"I can only apologise for today to the people. We should have done better but we didn't. Our performance wasn't good enough and I am very disappointed.

"We defended the first goal three times and handed it to Everton on a plate and the second goal could probably have been defended better.

"And for us, each miss gave Everton more momentum. We never had it, but we gave them more."

Liverpool now stand at 74 points with four more games to play. They are trailing Arsenal by three points which are at the top with 77 points in same number of games. In the race is also Manchester City who are at 73 points but in 32 games.

Liverpool next play against West Ham and Klopp admitted that: "West Ham will probably be waiting for us [on Saturday] and rubbing their hands, hoping that we turn up on one leg, but we have to recover for that."

For the next three games after West Ham, Liverpool face Tottenham Hotspur on May 5, Aston Villa on May 14, and Wolves on May 19.

Liverpool can't afford to lose anymore games if they wish to send off Klopp, who has decided to step down after the season, with a title.

Premier League: 'Need crisis at Arsenal and City,' says Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp after loss vs Everton

Manchester City will be without top scorer Erling Haaland when they play at Brighton &amp; Hove Albion on Thursday, manager Pep Guardiola said, as his team continues their push toward capturing a fourth consecutive Premier League title.

"Erling Haaland is not ready for tomorrow, (it's) not a big issue but not allowed for this game," Guardiola told reporters on Wednesday.

The forward, who is joint top of the league's scoring charts this season with Chelsea's Cole Palmer on 20 goals each, also missed Saturday's FA Cup semi-final win over the Blues due to a muscle injury sustained during the Champions League quarter-final loss to Real Madrid three days earlier.

City will have Phil Foden and John Stones back on Thursday, when they can climb to within a point of leaders Arsenal but still with a game in hand. Arsenal have played 34 games, while Guardiola's men have played 32. Brighton are 10th in the table.

While City's chance to repeat as treble winners disappeared with their loss to Madrid last week, they are still in the running to lift another double after clinching an FA Cup final berth against Manchester United in a repeat of last season.

"We have had a lot of problems with important players with injuries, but we are still there," Guardiola said. "We are in the final of the FA Cup, we made the latter stages of the Champions League and in the Premier League we are there.

"But you can arrive to the end like this and in one week (can) lose all titles. Every game is important now as every mistake and setback is difficult. But we have been here many times so we know what we are playing for."

Guardiola was asked whether he agreed with Nottingham Forest's criticism of league officiating. Forest posted a strongly worded statement on social media platform X accusing Video Assistant Referee (VAR) Stuart Attwell of being a Luton Town fan after their 2-0 loss to Everton on Sunday.

"Absolutely disagree," he said. "In every league in the world, this kind of thing will happen more and more, but of course I never had doubts about that.

"They make a mistake, they feel bad. It's normal. When they do the job, they want to do it well. The game is so difficult, it is fast and quick, decisions have to be made in one instant. It's not easy," he added.

The game is so difficult. It is fast and quick. Decisions have to be made in one instant. It's not easy," Guardiola said. "They feel the pressure, we put pressure on them for the passion of the game, for the moment. When I sit here and reflect they try to do their best and are under scrutiny with the cameras there," he added. While Guardiola extends support to the referees, fans have questioned whether it is because of Manchester City's UAE links and how it benefits the officials and club. Notably, City is owned by UAE Vice President Sheikh Mansour and a significant number of PL referees freelance in the UAE and Saudi Arabia when the league is not on. There have been demands that PL stop the freelancing gigs as City might receive favourable calls in their favour from the referees. What happened with Forest? Guardiola's statement comes after Forest on Sunday (Apr 21) issued a scathing statement after they were allegedly denied three penalties, according to their penalty consultant Mark Clattenburg. Forest went on to lose the match 0-2 against Everton and find themselves just one point off Luton Town, who occupy the final relegation spot. According to Forest, VAR official Stuart Attwell was a Luton fan and could have given the wrong instructions to the on-field referee leading to their defeat. The consequences of Sunday’s result could see Forest get relegated at the end of the season. Kai Havertz and Ben White scored twice as Arsenal thrashed Chelsea 5-0 on Tuesday to surge ahead in the Premier League title race and ramp up the pressure on Liverpool and Manchester City.

Leandro Trossard was also on target in a record win over Chelsea for the Gunners, who move three points clear of Liverpool and four of Manchester City.

The destiny of the title remains in City's hands as the defending champions have two games in hand.

Liverpool have also played one fewer game than Arsenal and are in action at Everton in the Merseyside derby on Wednesday.

However, Mikel Arteta's men's goal difference advantage now looks unassailable should it become decisive in the title race.

"We have made our people very proud, it is a big derby for us and I know what it means," said Arteta.

"We started the game really well but didn’t convert all our chances - we were a bit sloppy in certain areas of the pitch.

"In the second half we were much more disciplined and created chances and were ruthless in front of goal."

Chelsea and Arsenal's title rivals were dealt a huge blow before kick-off as the Blues' danger man Cole Palmer was ruled out due to illness.

Palmer has scored or assisted nearly 50 percent of Chelsea's Premier League goals this season and his presence was badly missed by the visitors.

Despite enduring a disappointing first season under Mauricio Pochettino, Chelsea had been unbeaten in eight consecutive league games prior to their FA Cup semi-final defeat to Manchester City on Saturday.

But they were blown away by an Arsenal side keen to reaffirm their title credentials after losing their last home game to Aston Villa.

"So difficult (a) result and performance (to accept) because it is not nice to see your team playing like this from the beginning of the game," said Pochettino.

"Today we didn't compete against a team fighting for the Premier League. We need to be aware we need to compete in a different way."

The hosts flew out of the blocks and were in front inside five minutes.

Trossard only ended up at the Emirates after Arsenal were gazumped by Chelsea in the battle to sign Mykhailo Mudryk in January 2023.

The Belgian has proved to be a far more productive signing and smashed in his 15th goal of the season at Djordje Petrovic's near post.

<h2>Havertz haunts Chelsea</h2>

Petrovic redeemed himself for a mistake at the opening goal with two brilliant saves to turn away Havertz's low effort and a deflected shot by Trossard to keep his side in the game before half-time.

The Serbian briefly held Arsenal at bay early in the second period with saves from Declan Rice and Havertz.

However, the floodgates opened once White curled in Arsenal's second after Chelsea failed to clear a corner on 52 minutes.

Havertz scored the winning goal in a Champions League final for Chelsea during his three years in west London, but he never performed consistently to the level he has found in recent months under Arteta.

Martin Odegaard's stunning through ball was met with the finish it deserved as Havertz smashed high past Petrovic.

His next finish was more subtle as the German international fired in off the post from Bukayo Saka's pass for his seventh goal in his last 14 club games.

A night for forget for Chelsea was summed up when White's attempted cross flew into the top corner from another sensational Odegaard pass.

Defeat leaves Chelsea still in ninth, three points adrift of the European places.

Next up for Arsenal is what appears their toughest hurdle remaining away to Tottenham in Sunday's north London derby.

Should Arteta's side prevail at the home of their fiercest rivals, City will likely need to be perfect in their final six games to retain the title.

Premier League: Five-star Arsenal thrash Chelsea to open up lead at top

Liverpool are all set to follow in the footsteps of their arch-rivals Manchester United as they look to appoint a new manager&nbsp;at the helm&nbsp;for the 2024-25 season. With current manager Jurgen Klopp set to leave at the end of the season, the 19-time English champions have set their sights on Arne Slot, current Feyenoord manager. It is reported that Liverpool have opened negotiations with&nbsp;Feyenoord and have made formal contact with the Dutchman for a move to England's top flight.

<h2>Arne Slot to Liverpool?</h2>

According to several reports in the Dutch and English media, Slot remains one of the tempting options Liverpool are keeping tabs on&nbsp;at the moment.&nbsp;This&nbsp;comes a week after the Reds&nbsp;were linked&nbsp;with Ruben Amiron, current Sporting Lisbon manager. Slot&nbsp;is considered&nbsp; as&nbsp;a good candidate&nbsp;having&nbsp;impressed while working at the Rotterdam-based club. Under his guidance, Feyenoord won the 202-23 Eredivisie title while also taking home the KNVB Cup in the 2023-24 season.&nbsp;

Slot was close to winning a European Trophy with Feyenoord,&nbsp;having finished&nbsp;runners-up to AS Roma in the Europa Conference League in the 2021-22 season.&nbsp;

As things stand, Liverpool will have big shoes to fill in the summer when they&nbsp;decide to&nbsp; announce their successor to Klopp. Current Bayer Leverkusen manager Xabi Alonso was the prime target to replace Klopp, but he has now committed his future to the club, ruling out a return.&nbsp;

An exasperated Mauricio Pochettino on Tuesday (Apr 23) admitted that when his team has bad days, they are incredibly bad, as Chelsea were routed 0-5 by Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium in the London derby.&nbsp;

Chelsea were played off the park by Mikel Arteta-coached Arsenal who looked like scoring after each passage of attacking play. Pochettino admitted the loss of Cole Palmer had a big impact on the match but even he could not have salvaged such a&nbsp;poor performance from the Blues.&nbsp;

"Maybe with him [Cole Palmer], the team today, it could be in the same situation. But of course Palmer is doing well for us and he is the only player we have to link all the lines of the team. When you miss a player like this, it is not easy. It was a great opportunity for some players to step up," said Pochettino.

"We are showing this inconsistency and that is why we are where we are. We are able to have an amazing performance [against Man City] and then one like this. When we have bad days, we are so bad."

<h2>'Fight for the shirt'</h2>

The derby defeat marks another low in Pochettino's tenure as the Chelsea boss, with the team languishing in ninth place on the points table and without European football for the next season.&nbsp;

The frustration of the fans has been growing, both with the coach and the players. During the match,&nbsp;a young Chelsea fan held up a banner which read: "I don't want your shirt I want you to fight for ours."

Quizzed about the poster, Chelsea captain Conor Gallagher said:&nbsp;"We definitely are putting the effort in. I know it's been said many times; it's a very young squad with not much experience as a team in the Premier League. As you’ve seen this season, we’ve had a lot of ups and a lot of downs as well. We’re still improving and working together as a team to get to that next level.'&nbsp;

While Chelsea have hit a new low, their cross-city rivals climbed to the top of the points table, opening up a three-point gap against second-placed Liverpool who face Everton in the Merseyside derby, later on Wednesday.&nbsp;

Even if the Reds manage the three points they will remain second due to Arsenal's superior goal difference.&nbsp;&nbsp;
