It said that some recent studies show that a disproportionate amount of domestic well-dependent communities in California are underprivileged populations that probably experience financial difficulties in groundwater testing and treatment. A growing body of evidence suggests that manganese concentrations previously considered safe may pose significant health threats to vulnerable populations such as children, the research noted.&nbsp;

"It is a relatively small number of people, compared to the total population of the state, who are getting the tainted water. But for them, the health risks are high," said Samantha Ying, UCR soil scientist and principal study investigator. "These people are particularly concentrated in disadvantaged communities, so if they wanted to monitor and treat the water, they would have a hard time doing so," Ying said.

"It is possible to purchase filters for manganese, but a lot of people cannot afford them. We are hoping people in these communities can be subsidised to buy treatment options," Ying said.

It stated that community water system users may have access to municipal monitoring and treatment, but out-of-pocket costs for domestic well communities may be a considerable financial burden, particularly for those below the poverty line.

"Using existing groundwater model predictions of manganese concentrations at deeper depths did not change the number of wells likely to be contaminated," Ying said.

The study suggests that legislative changes to primary contaminant regulation may have co-benefits upon secondary contaminant remediation. As per the study, it has been reported that a decrease in arsenic concentrations was correlated with the implementation of stricter regulation of As.&nbsp;

Arsenic has long been regulated as a primary contaminant in the US and "wells are labeled unsafe if they contain arsenic, but not if they contain manganese," Ying said. "Thus, the number of wells considered safe may be greatly overestimated."

Russian President Vladimir Putin may quit from his post in January amid fears he has Parkinson's disease, sources have claimed.

Putin’s 37-year-old girlfriend, Alina Kabaeva, and his two daughters are pushing him to leave office, a report in The Daily Mail quoted Moscow political scientist Valery Solovei as saying.

British rock artist Ozzy Osbourne has revealed that he has been diagnosed with Parkinson`s disease. Osbourne had postponed a <a href="https://www.wionews.com/entertainment/ozzy-osbourne-says-hes-recovering-not-dying-but-again-postpones-tour-254912">world tour in 2019</a> due to health issues but had not specified the illness back then.&nbsp; 
 
In an interview to ABC`s 'Good Morning America', Osbourne, 71, said that he was diagnosed in February 2019 after he fell at home and had to have neck surgery. He also recently suffered from pneumonia, flu complications and infections in his hand. 
 
The musician, who made his name as the lead singer of the heavy metal band Black Sabbath, had previously denied having Parkinson`s but said he now wanted to be open with his fans. 
 
"They`re my air, you know," Osbourne said while seated next to his wife, Sharon. "I feel better. I`ve owned up to the fact that I have a case of Parkinson`s. And I just hope they hang on and they`re there for me because I need them." 
 
Parkinson`s is a progressive neurodegenerative disorder that causes tremors and slowed movements. There is no cure, but medication can ease symptoms. 
 
Osbourne said he was taking Parkinson`s medication and nerve pills. 
 
Sharon Osbourne said the type of Parkinson`s her husband had was "not a death sentence by any stretch of the imagination, but it does affect certain nerves in your body. It`s like you have a good day, a good day, and then a really bad day."

Analysing a person&#39;s painting strokes may help detect the risk of several neurodegenerative disorders such as Alzheimer&#39;s and Parkinson&#39;s disease, a new study suggests.

Researchers from University of Liverpool in the UK examined 2,092 paintings from the careers of seven famous artists who experienced both normal ageing and neurodegenerative disorders.

Of the seven, two had suffered from Parkinson&#39;s disease (Salvador Dali and Norval Morrisseau), two had suffered from Alzheimer&#39;s disease (James Brooks and Willem De Kooning) and three had no recorded neurodegenerative disorders (Marc Chagall, Pablo Picasso and Claude Monet).

The brushstrokes of each of the paintings were analysed using a method of applying non-traditional mathematics to patterns known as &#39;Fractal&#39; analyses to identify complex geometric patterns.

Fractals are mathematical characterisations of self-repeating patterns often described as the &#39;fingerprints of nature&#39;. 
They can be found in natural phenomena such as clouds, snowflakes, trees, rivers and mountains. This method has also been used to determine the authenticity of major works of art.

Although painters work within a different style or genre, the fractal dimension in which they operate should remain comparable. 
The results were examined to see if the variations in an artist&#39;s unique &#39;fractals&#39; in their work over their career were due to them just increasing in age or because of ongoing cognitive deterioration.

The study showed clear patterns of change in the fractal dimension of the paintings differentiated artists who suffered neurological deterioration from those ageing normally.

&quot;Art has long been embraced by psychologists an effective method of improving the quality of life for those persons living with cognitive disorders,&quot; said Dr Alex Forsythe from the university&#39;s School of Psychology.

&quot;We have built on this tradition by unpicking artists &#39;handwriting&#39; through the analysis of their individual connection with the brush and paint. This process offers the potential for the detection of emerging neurological problems,&quot; said Forsythe.

&quot;We hope that our innovation may open up new research directions that will help to diagnose neurological disease in the early stages,&quot; Forsythe added.
