The resolution, still in draft form, "reaffirms that the establishment by Israel of settlements in the Palestinian territory occupied since 1967, including East Jerusalem, has no legal validity and constitutes a flagrant violation under international law." It also "condemns all attempts at annexation, including decisions and measures by Israel regarding settlements, including settlement outposts," and calls for their immediate reversal. AFP said that the text,"reiterates its demand that Israel immediately and completely cease all settlement activities in the occupied Palestinian territory, including East Jerusalem, and that it fully respect all of its legal obligations in this regard." The United Nations Security Council is scheduled to meet Monday to discuss the Israeli-Palestinian situation, but it remains unclear whether the draft will be presented for a vote, according to diplomats. On Sunday, Israel's security cabinet announced it would legalize nine settlements in the occupied West Bank, following a series of recent attacks on Israelis in East Jerusalem. United Nations chief Antonio Guterres was "deeply concerned" by the settlement authorization announcement and warned that Israel's steps could "undermine prospects for a viable two-state solution," the secretary-general's spokesman Stephane Dujarric said this week. Draft UNSC text lashes out at Israel over settlements: Report

Israel's Parliament has passed a new law to strip convicts of Israeli citizenship if they receive funds from Palestinian authority actions deemed as terrorism. The legislation also blocks any future entry of convicts into the country.

Israel: New law strip 'terror' convicts of citizenship, calls stipends 'pay for slay' policy

Israel has passed a new law to strip the citizenship of Arabs convicted of terrorism and those who get financial aid from the Palestinian Authority (PA). Even as Arab representatives strongly opposed the legislation, the Israeli parliament cleared the law with an overwhelming majority (94 votes to 10) on Wednesday (February 15). Opposition politicians were among the lawmakers backing the legislation by the hard-right government of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.

The legislation has expectedly sparked off criticism, with many saying it violates international law and would end up rendering people stateless. The members of parliament who voted in the bill's favour, however, say that such Arabs have betrayed the state. "Our enemies are not worthy of our citizenship and those who come to hurt the state of Israel are not worthy of living here," far-right National Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir was quoted as saying by the news agency Reuters.

Hundreds of Palestinians and Israeli residents - living in the West Bank - are expected to get affected by the law. The issue was also reportedly raised in the parliament on Wednesday. The development follows a long spell of tensions in the West Bank amid raids against militants and attacks on Israelis. Fears are prevailing that the law may lead to a fresh escalation in the region.

Palestinian Authority (PA), which is internationally recognised, has been funding families of slain Palestinians or those arrested for attacks on Israel. It is viewed as social welfare by those who see prisoners as heroes of the struggle in the West Bank.

'Ugliest form of racism': Israel's new law on citizenship for Arabs triggers criticism

Israel struck a Hamas base in Gaza in response to a rocket fired from the enclave, while one Palestinian died during what the army called a West Bank raid targeting suspects.

Israel claims striking Hamas base in Gaza

Conflict between Israel and Palestine continues to simmer. A barrage of explosions have rocked the Gaza Strip. Israel's military says that it carried out these strikes in retaliation to a rocket which it says was launched from Gaza on Saturday.

Israel: Explosions rock Gaza strip

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Sunday (February 12), prior to the cabinet meeting, vowed a stronger Israeli response in dealing with a recent spike in Palestinian attacks in Jerusalem and West Bank. This comes two days after a car-ramming attack on the outskirts of Jerusalem which killed three Israelis and injured several others. Meanwhile, the Israeli police, on Sunday also said that they have sealed up the family home of a Palestinian man who careened his car into a Jerusalem bus stop, on February 10.

“The cabinet is meeting today to prepare for an even broader action against those carrying out terrorism and their supporters in East Jerusalem and Judea and Samaria, while preventing as much as possible harming those uninvolved,” said Netanyahu, on Sunday. However, did not mention any specifics ahead of the cabinet meeting.

Subsequently, addressing the cabinet, Netanyahu said that the “appropriate response to terror is to strike it with force and further deepen our roots in our land.” He added that the government would discuss a “broader operation against the perpetrators of terrorism” in the occupied West Bank and East Jerusalem.

Israel’s national security minister, Itamar Ben-Gvir, who had visited the scene of Friday's ramming attack was met with an angry crowd who demanded action after the incident, on Sunday, said that police have already begun a major enforcement campaign in East Jerusalem. Speaking to the reporters, he said some of these measures include handing out traffic tickets for demolishing houses of Palestinian attackers. The move has previously been justified by Israel as a means to prevent future attacks.

The Israeli security minister ahead of the cabinet meeting also said that he is determined to carry out a large-scale military campaign in East Jerusalem similar to the one that Israel executed two decades ago during a Palestinian uprising in the West Bank. However, his remarks related to the 20-year-old operation known as “Defensive Shield” were dismissed as misguided in several media interviews by former security officials.

Meanwhile, the Israeli police released a video of police and soldiers welding the doors and windows of the Palestinian driver Hussein Qaraqa’s apartment in East Jerusalem shut, reported the Associated Press.
