<p>Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal Thursday said Union minister Nitin Gadkari has showered more love on the Delhi government than maybe on his own party, and hoped the AAP dispensation would have the same working relations with the Centre that it shared with the BJP leader.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Speaking at an event where nine projects were launched for the cleaning of Yamuna river, Kejriwal said it was “an important step for the federal structure of the country”.</p>

<p>A few years back Gadkari had slapped a defamation case against Kejriwal who this year apologised to him.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The AAP government in Delhi and the Centre have perennially been at loggerheads over a range of issues and have had acrimonious exchanges in the past.</p>

<p>“Nitin Gadkari ji has never made us feel that he belongs to a rival party. I don’t know about others, but the way he has showered love on us, I don’t think the BJP people have got that much love,” Kejriwal said.</p>

<p>Besides Gadkari, who is the water resources minister, the event was attended by environment minister and BJP MP from Chandni Chowk Harsh Vardhan, Minister of State for Water Resources Satyapal Singh and Kejriwal’s deputy Manish Sisodia. BJP MPs from Delhi Udit Raj, Parvesh Verma, Ramesh Bidhuri and Leader of Opposition in the Delhi Legislative Assembly Vijender Gupta were also present on the occasion.</p>

<p>Kejriwal said politics should only be restricted to polls and once a party emerges victorious, the focus of the state government and the Centre should on work. He said to combat air pollution, it was important to take steps jointly by his government and the Centre.</p>

<p>“The spirit in which we have gathered here together, the spirit in which we have worked with Gadkari sahab, I hope we get to work with the Centre in the same spirit. “The Delhi government wants to work with other departments of the Centre and I hope we will get the opportunity to work with the same positive spirit,” the chief minister said.</p>

<p>On the cleaning of Yamuna, he said the river was he city’s lifeline and just a 22 km stretch between Wazirabad and Okhla adds to maximum pollution to the water body. The nine projects for which foundation was laid today include eight sewerage infrastructure projects under Yamuna Action Plan-III The sewerage projects are being taken up in four packages of Kondli (K1, K2, K3, K4), three packages of Rithala (R1a, R1b, R2) and Okhla zone (O).</p>

<p>Of these, seven of the projects are in various states of implementation and the project at Okhla zone is under tendering process. In addition, foundation was also laid for one project of nine decentralised STPs (total 2.25 crore litres per day) and water bodies rejuvenation at Chattarpur at a cost of Rs 65.24 crore. These projects are being implemented by the Delhi Jal Board in collaboration with Japan International Cooperation Assistance (JICA).</p>

I have to complete Ganga work first, building of Express Highway Access Control in 13-14 countries and I also want to make roads for Chaar Dhams and other works. I am happy doing these works and want to complete it."</p>

<p>Meanwhile, talking about the development projects in the Northeast, the senior BJP leader, who was coming from Arunachal Pradesh after inaugurating and laying foundation stones for national highways projects worth Rs 9,533 crore in the state, accused the previous government of ignoring the northeast in terms of development.</p>

<p>He said, "A project of Rs 4000 crore for constructing 400 km road is underway. Arunachal is a large area but it has less population even international border is attached to it. Due to the lack of road, there is poverty and unemployment. But once the roads are constructed, it will bring jobs here."</p>

<p>"The forest-based industry could come here if roads were made. I believe in Northeast the previous governments have not worked well. But when the Modi government came into power, we decided to give northeast the first priority," he added.</p>

<p>He further told ANI that the upcoming development projects in the northeast will completely change the image of the Northeastern region.</p>

<p>"Road, Railway and Aviation sectors have been improved in the northeast since last 4.5 years. The development work worth Rs 2.50 lakh crore is presently underway in the northeast. The upcoming development in the northeast will completely change the image of the region. Our dream is to make northeast a prosperous and enriched part of our country," he said.</p>

<p>The Union Minister further highlighted his Ministry's plan of developing the waterways.</p>

<p>He said, "We are building six bridges on Brahmaputra River. We are also focusing on developing the waterways like making five-star and seven-star cruise."</p>

<p>He also expressed his concern over the road safety in the country.</p>

<p>"We are making an express highway from Mumbai to Delhi at cost of Rs one lakh crore. I believe when it comes to the road sector, the image of our country in the last five years has changed. In coming days, our priority will be road safety," he added.</p>

<p>Gadkari said the loan he was referring to was from the Maharashtra government-owned entity Sicom to Mallya, extended 40 years ago, which he repaid on time without any default.</p>

<p>Stating that ups and downs are part and parcel of any business, the road transport minister said if someone goes through a downward cycle, then he or she has to be supported.</p>

<p>"There are risks in the business, be it banking or insurance, there are ups and downs. But, if the mistakes are bona fide, because of global or internal factors in the economy like a recession, then that person who is facing difficulties must be given support," the minister said.</p>

<p>Likening an election loss to a business failure, he recalled how he lost an election when he was all of 26, but underlined that the loss did not mean that his political career ended.</p>

<p>"If Nirav Modi or Vijay Mallyaji has committed (financial) fraud then send them to jail, but whoever comes in distress, and if we label them as fraudster then our economy will not progress," he said.</p>

<p>Earlier this week, a London court had ordered Mallya's extradition, in a major boost to the government's efforts to bring back the fugitive businessman.</p>

<p>Ahead of the <a href="http://www.wionews.com/india-news/mallya-extradition-to-speed-up-loan-recovery-process-sbi-183208">extradition hearing</a>, the 62-year-old former boss of the now-defunct Kingfisher Airlines offered to repay the entire principal amount to banks.</p>

<p>Gadkari has for long been calling for a more considerate and realistic approach to NPAs, and indirectly blamed the bankers for the NPA mess, saying our banking system is such that it does not support sick companies.</p>

<p>"When someone is serious then we put him/her in an ICU, but our banking system first puts a sick company in the ICU and then ensures that it dies," he quipped.</p>

<p>Last month, Gadkari had blamed the RBI for "complicating" project finance, saying over 150 projects involving over Rs 2 trillion investments are struggling to get financial closure.</p>

<p>"Unfortunately, many times ...The circulars issued by the RBI are creating more complications and this is one of the reasons why I am facing problems as far as financial closure is concerned," Gadkari had said.</p>

<p>Union Minister Nitin Gadkari on Wednesday said his government is ready to "pay a political price" for stringent decisions like demonetisation and the GST, even as he admitted there is an agricultural crisis and rural distress in the country.</p>

<p>He also hoped the results of the 2019 Lok Sabha elections won't be the same as the just-concluded assembly polls, in which the BJP lost three states to the Congress.</p>

<p>Stressing that agriculture was a focus area for the Modi government at the Centre, Gadkari said it was a complex issue and its remedy would take time.</p>

<p>Drawing a parallel, the minister said anything can happen in politics and cricket and it would be wrong to assume that the assembly results were giving a reflection of what would happen during the general elections next year.</p>

<p>He said development was the focus of the BJP and the Prime Minister Narendra Modi-led government, and they were ready to pay a political price for "certain stringent decisions" like demonetisation and GST, taken in the "interest of the country".</p>

<p>Speaking at the India Economic Conclave, the Minister for Road Transport and Highways said agenda of politics was different at national, state, district and municipal levels and it is highly difficult to predict on which issue a political party wins.</p>

<p>"As far as we are concerned, our agenda will be development and for this we have taken a few stringent decisions like demonetisation and GST. But I feel these issues should not be politicised as we are seeing its benefits in the form of reduction in black-money and improvement in the economy," he said.</p>

<p>Admitting that there was an agricultural crisis and rural distress in the country, he said the government has been taking all necessary measures to ensure the sector grows significantly.</p>

<p>"Agriculture is our priority, but we need to understand that it is such a complex issue that there is no immediate solution and remedy to the problems of this sector and it will take time.</p>

<p>"Also, unless the rural and agri economy becomes robust, unless we increase the purchasing power of the large population and improve employment and boost manufacturing and services sectors, we will not be able to achieve overall development of the nation, and this is our priority," he said.</p>

<p>When asked if the BJP's defeat in three states has dented the party's image, Gadkari said, "It is a matter of research on what parameters a voter elects a particular party during elections...Is it stability, economy or employment? But I feel that a major part of politics is dominated by three Cs- cash, caste and criminals. Though this approach has changed to some extent, it still exists."</p>

<p>Talking about the defeat in Madhya Pradesh where the BJP ruled for 15 years under the leadership of Shivraj Singh Chouhan, the minister said, "After ruling for so many years, anti-incumbency was bound to be there. But the outcome of 2019 Lok Sabha maybe or may not be same as that of the recent assembly elections."</p>

<p>"The agenda and subjects of all elections are different. The work which our government has done at the national level will be tested during the Lok Sabha elections only," he said.&nbsp;</p>

Stressing that agriculture was a focus area for the Modi government at the Centre, Gadkari said it was a complex issue and its remedy would take time. Drawing a parallel, the minister said anything can happen in politics and cricket and it would be wrong to assume that the assembly results were giving a reflection of what would happen during the general elections next year. He said development was the focus of the BJP and the Prime Minister Narendra Modi-led government, and they were ready to pay a political price for "certain stringent decisions" like demonetisation and GST, taken in the "interest of the country". Speaking at the India Economic Conclave, the Minister for Road Transport and Highways said agenda of politics was different at national, state, district and municipal levels and it is highly difficult to predict on which issue a political party wins. "As far as we are concerned, our agenda will be development and for this we have taken a few stringent decisions like demonetisation and GST. But I feel these issues should not be politicised as we are seeing its benefits in the form of reduction in black-money and improvement in the economy," he said. Admitting that there was an agricultural crisis and rural distress in the country, he said the government has been taking all necessary measures to ensure the sector grows significantly. "Agriculture is our priority, but we need to understand that it is such a complex issue that there is no immediate solution and remedy to the problems of this sector and it will take time. "Also, unless the rural and agri economy becomes robust, unless we increase the purchasing power of the large population and improve employment and boost manufacturing and services sectors, we will not be able to achieve overall development of the nation, and this is our priority," he said. When asked if the BJP's defeat in three states has dented the party's image, Gadkari said, "It is a matter of research on what parameters a voter elects a particular party during elections...Is it stability, economy or employment? But I feel that a major part of politics is dominated by three Cs- cash, caste and criminals. Though this approach has changed to some extent, it still exists." Talking about the defeat in Madhya Pradesh where the BJP ruled for 15 years under the leadership of Shivraj Singh Chouhan, the minister said, "After ruling for so many years, anti-incumbency was bound to be there. But the outcome of 2019 Lok Sabha maybe or may not be same as that of the recent assembly elections." "The agenda and subjects of all elections are different. The work which our government has done at the national level will be tested during the Lok Sabha elections only," he said.

<p>In a bid to actualise the dream of a “nirmal” and “aviral” Ganga, Union minister Nitin Gadkari said Sunday the government is looking to complete about 200 projects for ghats and crematoria by March 2019. Also, the Centre is taking various measures to ensure ecological flow or the minimum quantity of water at different stretches of the Ganga, he said. “A total of 227 projects have been taken up for the Ganga for sewage infrastructure, ghats and crematoria, river-front development, river-surface cleaning and biodiversity conservation, among others, at a cost of Rs 22,374 crore,” Gadkari, who holds Ganga rejuvenation and water resources portfolio among others, told PTI in an interview.</p>

<p>He further said that making the Ganga “nirmal” (cleaner) and “aviral” (free-flowing) is his dream and his ministries were taking a slew of steps in this direction. Earlier this month, the government had mandated the minimum ecological flow in the river Ganga and its tributaries required to be maintained at different points in different areas around the year with the aim of ensuring water quality and environmentally sustainable rejuvenation. The directive also requires hydropower projects along the river to modify their operations in order to comply with the notification.</p>

<p>“The government plans to complete 151 ghats and 54 crematoria projects by March 2019,” Gadkari, who is also in-charge of road transport and highways ministry, said. Besides monitoring water quality at 138 locations, each at the interval of 20 km, projects have been taken up for 24×7 cleaning of ghats at Varanasi, Bithoor, Kanpur, Allahabad, Mathura, Vrindavan and Haridwar to avoid solid waste disposals in the river, he said. In addition, under the bio-diversity conservation plans, several projects are being implemented for conservation and restoration of indigenous and aquatic species of the Ganga like the Gangetic dolphin, river otters, turtles and aquatic birds, the minister added.</p>

<p>The gazette notification on October 10 with regard to the ecological flow of the Ganga water specifies flow requirements at various stretches including from origins in the glaciers to Haridwar besides the main stretch from Haridwar in Uttarakhand to Unnao, Uttar Pradesh. Gadkari said: “With the implementation of these specifications, the river will not be dry as these specifications were a result of scientific study.” He said the directive on ecological flow for the river would result in an unhindered and continuous flow of the river water as it will ensure at least the minimum required the environmental flow of water even after its stream gets diverted by projects.</p>

<p>The minister said the notification also provides for direct release of additional water in the river Ganga to meet special demand as and when required. “The concerned central and state authorities shall implement demand-side management plans to reduce water withdrawal from the river Ganga by adopting good and scientific practices such as the efficient method of irrigation, reuse and recycle of water including monitoring and regulation of groundwater withdrawals for various purposes,” the notification mentioned.</p>

<p>There are about 1,100 industries and 4,500 villages along the Ganga. The minister last month said that cleaning works would start getting remarkably noticeable in another six months, and had claimed “transforming the river that was the distinct cultural identity of the nation was close to his heart”.</p>

<p>Enunciating the work for sewage infrastructure, the minister had said: “Massive initiatives have resulted in rich dividends and we have successfully created the capacity to treat 1,700 MLD sewage.” The cities located by the side of the river produce 2,950 MLD sewage and if steps to purify the water were not taken this in another 15 years will reach 3,600 MLD. He said there were 97 cities, which were polluting the river with 10 including Haridwar, Kanpur, Allahabad, Varanasi, Patna, Bhagalpur and Kolkata contributing 65 per cent of the pollution in the river.</p>

<p>Besides, Gadkari has said 48 new cities have been identified on either side of the Ganga and its tributaries for projects to clean the river. The government had in May 2015 approved Rs 20,000 crore under its ambitious ‘Namami Gange’ – integrated Ganga integrated Ganga conservation mission – programme for five years. The minister said massive preparations were also on for commencement of cargo operations in Ganga.</p>

A person can change name not his/her fingerprints," Prasad said while addressing a press conference here.</p>

Nitin Gadkari withdraws case against Congress leader Digvijay Singh

<p>Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari bulldozed his way into a controversy when he warned road contractors of dire consequences if they indulged in corrupt practices.</p>

<p>The union minister said they will be put before bulldozers instead of crushed stones if they indulge in corruption.</p>

<p>"Kaam theek se ho raha hai, nahi ho raha hai yeh thekedaaron ko dekhna hai. Maine unko ko bataake rakha hai ki agar kaam (road construction) theek se nahi hua toh main mitti ki jagah aapko daal dunga (The contractors have to see whether the roadworks are happening properly or not. I have told them that if work is not being done properly, I would throw them under bulldozers instead of crushed stones)," Nitin Gadkari told a gathering of tendu leaves collectors and unorganised labourers at Betul, Madhya Pradesh.</p>

<p>The Union minister said he will not tolerate corruption and asserted that the money does not belong to contractors but "the poor of this country".&nbsp</p>

<p>Union Minister Nitin Gadkari on Saturday said he will strive to get work started on the Godavari inland waterways this year. He added that once the project is completed it will change the economy of Andhra Pradesh, Telangana and Maharashtra.<br />

"Our department has done feasibility study for Godavari waterways and I will soon give orders for preparing detailed project report (DPR)," he said after laying the foundation for four national highway projects amounting to&nbspRs.&nbsp1,523 crore in Hyderabad.<br />
<br />
"The Centre will allot an initial funding of&nbspRs.&nbsp2,000 crore for this project. This is my dream project," the Minister for Road Transport, Highways and Water Resources said.<br />
<br />
Gadkari called upon the three states to contribute 10 per cent equity each for setting up a special purpose vehicle (SPV).<br />
<br />
He added that he would procure the remaining funds at lesser interest rates and asked the governments of all the three states to send the proposals.<br />
<br />
"Work on 10 waterways in the country has begun. We are bringing in seaplanes and the rules for this will be finalized in the coming months," he said. He added that waterways would substantially bring down logistical costs.</p>

<p>"For our industrial development, inland waterways are very important," Gadkari said.<br />

Gadkari said 3,000 TMC of Godavari water goes waste and the Centre is working on two projects to stop this flow of water. Instead, the water would be used for the benefit of Telangana, Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka and Tamil Nadu.<br />

"We are working on stopping the wastage of water. Our priority is to see to it how these states will benefit from this," he added.<br />
<br />
"First we want to tap water from Indravathi and take it to tail-end of Cauvery (in Tamil Nadu) through two dams. This will be a 50,000 crore project," Gadkari added.<br />
<br />
The second plan is through Polavaram project (in Andhra Pradesh). The plan is to transfer water from the river Godavari to Krishna river and from there to Pennar river. Finally it will join with the Cauvery, he said.</p>

<p>Gadkari further said, "India and Pakistan have three rivers each. Our rightful share of water is flowing into Pakistan and hence I have directed the department to prepare DPR to ensure that we will be able to transfer the water to Punjab, Haryana and Rajasthan."<br />

He also announced approval of an additional Central Road Fund (CRF) of&nbspRs.&nbsp750 crore to Telangana in addition to the&nbspRs.&nbsp1,700 crore to the state.</p>

He said their government was planning to introduce two river connectivity projects which they have researched upon. <p>Gadkari added Thursday that the government plans to bring 10,000 seaplanes into service over the next two years.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The government has been keen to make greater use of the country&#39;s waterways considering the high cost of expanding the country&#39;s roads and highways.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Gadkari is currently minister for road transport and highways, shipping and water resources, and river development and Ganga rejuvenation.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Road transport and highways minister Nitin Gadkari gave out details about a pilot project that aims to decongest Delhi.</p>

<p>Close to Rs 32 crores will be invested in a move to minimise vehicular pollution, decongest Delhi and make public commuting smoother and hassle-free.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The Dwarka Expressway shall be developed further at a cost of Rs 6,000 crore.</p>

<p>The Eastern Peripheral Expressway and the Delhi-Meerut Expressway will also get a facelift for Rs 12,000 crore and Rs 6,000 crore respectively.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The first leg of the Delhi-Meerut Expressway will be inaugurated soon which will include&nbsp;India&#39;s first 14-lane highway and a 2.5 metre-wide cycle track.</p>

<p>The expressway is likely to reduce the travel time between Delhi and Meerut to just about 45 minutes.</p>

<p>The 135-km-long Eastern Peripheral Expressway envisages signal-free connectivity between Ghaziabad, Faridabad, Gautam Budh Nagar (Greater Noida) and Palwal.</p>

<p>&quot;We have undertaken projects worth Rs 31,930 crore to decongest Delhi and the NCR region and minimise vehicular pollution, which has become a major problem,&quot; the minister said.</p>

<p>&quot;Work has already been awarded for decongestion of Dhaula Kuan-airport corridor to be executed at a cost of Rs 260 crore besides detailed project report (DPR) is in progress for Rs 5,000 crore new ring road project (UER II) for Delhi,&quot; Gadkari said.</p>

<p>As per the proposed plan, the Gurgaon-Sohna road will also get an elevated highway, a six-lane road along with service roads at a cost of Rs 1,500 crore.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Master Plan for Delhi has proposed UER II, which will connect National Highways 1, 10 and 8 to facilitate better traffic flow on Ring Road and Outer Ring Road.</p>

<p>Low-cost carrier SpiceJet on Saturday (December 09) conducted trials for India&#39;s first seaplane in financial capital Mumbai.</p>

<p>Reportedly, the trial is part of the private carrier&#39;s business plan to bring small amphibious planes into operation and promote regional connectivity. India&#39;s Transport Minister Nitin Gadkari and Aviation Minister Ashok Gajapathi Raju attended the trials.</p>

<p>Terming it a &#39;revolutionary change&#39;, Gadkari said these small planes could also help boost tourism in remote parts of the country.</p>

<p>SpiceJet has plans to buy more than 100 amphibian aircrafts from Japan&#39;s Setouchi Holdings for about $400 million and hopes to put them into operations within the next 12 months, media reports said. These planes are capable of taking off and landing in places that lack runways and can work on roads and water.</p>

<p>Last year, India&#39;s aviation ministry launched &quot;Regional Connectivity Scheme&quot; to boost air travel between smaller cities. India is one of the world&#39;s fastest-growing aviation markets, with around 70 million domestic tickets sold annually and passenger numbers rising 20 percent a year.</p>

<p>Gadkari said that the individual will get a 10% reward, from the authorities, from the proposed Rs. 500 fine charged on the owner of the vehicle.&nbsp;</p>

<p>&ldquo;In my Motor Vehicle Act, I am going to add one law. Any car on road, you just take the photo on your mobile and send it to the department concerned or Police. There will be Rs 500 fine and 10 per cent will go to the complainant,&rdquo; Gadkari said Monday. &ldquo;No parking places are available. People are using roads for that,&rdquo; he said.</p>

<p>Gadkari said he felt &ldquo;ashamed&rdquo; that absence of parking lots outside his own Ministry forced &ldquo;ambassadors&rdquo; and &ldquo;big people&rdquo; to park on road blocking the way to Parliament.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The Transport Minister also said that it took him nine months to get approval for a &#39;simple automated parking lot&#39; from the then Urban Development Minister Venkaiah Naidu.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The automated parking lot is being carried out by NHIDCL and will consist of seven floors, enabling it to accommodate around 112 cars.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Gadkari had earlier floated the idea of rewarding &nbsp;Rs. 200 to citizens who click pictures of wrongly parked cars, claiming that it was his personal view and it can only be enforced by putting the necessary infrastructure in place.&nbsp;</p>

<p>In the letter, Gadkari suggested forming a panel of experts before deciding a course of action to combat pollution in Delhi. &ldquo;The odd-even scheme is not going to help,&rdquo; Gadkari said.</p>

<p>The Supreme Court on Monday issued notices to the Centre, Uttar Pradesh, Punjab, Haryana and Delhi governments on the petition on stubble burning and dust pollution.</p>

<p>Stating that it&#39;s an emergency situation, the Supreme Court sought expeditious action from the authorities.</p>

<p>The Delhi High Court had on November 9 issued a slew of directions to improve air quality of Delhi.</p>

<p>Calling it an &quot;emergency situation&quot;, the high court had asked the government to consider the option of &quot;cloud seeding&quot; to induce rainfall artificially, as an immediate step to bring down the dust and particulate matter in the atmosphere.</p>

<p>It had directed the Delhi government to seriously consider a ban on further construction in the city to the extent possible and implementing the &#39;odd-even&#39; vehicle usage scheme as a short term measure.</p>

<p>PM Modi had made a surprise stopover in Pakistan on 25 December 2016. He visited the country on his way back from Kabul.</p>

Zero tolerance for terrorism in J&K: Nitin Gadkari at BJP executive meeting

<p>Over 100 bridges across India can &quot;collapse anytime&quot; and need immediate attention, Road Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari informed Parliament today (August 3).</p>

<p>Nitin Gadkari said that his ministry has completed a safety audit of 1.6 lakh bridges in the country and found more than 100 structures in a dilapidated condition.</p>

<p>&quot;100 bridges can be collapse anytime and they need immediate attention,&quot; Nitin Gadkari said during Question Hour in the Lok Sabha.</p>

<p>The Road Transport and Highways Minister highlighted an incident that took place in the Konkan region of Maharashtra last year where two state-run buses and some private vehicles were swept away after a British-era bridge over the Savitri river collapsed.</p>

<p>He said that his ministry had last year launched a special project to create a database of all bridges and culverts in the country to avert mishaps.</p>

<p>The minister blamed issues related to land acquisition, encroachment and environmental clearance for the delay in the works on various road projects.</p>

<p>He said road projects worth Rs 3.85 lakh crore were delayed due to various reasons in the past and most of these issues were resolved and their works are in progress.&nbsp;<br />

<p>India, Iran and Afghanistan are keen on expediting the agreement on Chabahar port which will open a new gateway for their development and connectivity, India&#39;s senior minister Nitin Gadkari said today.</p>

<p>A transit deal on the Chabahar port in Iran will give India access to Afghanistan and Europe by bypassing Pakistan. India will invest $500 million to develop the port after a pact was signed with Iran in May.</p>

<p>Afghanistan signed a transport and transit pact with India and Iran in order to augment business opportunities between the three countries.&nbsp;</p>

<p>&quot;We are keen on expanding scope of cooperation to cover development of entire Chabahar Port...This port is going to open a new gateway not only for the development of India but at the same time development of Afghanistan and Iran. This is a win-win situation,&quot; shipping, road transport and highways minister Gadkari told PTI after holding a meeting with delegates from Iran and Afghanistan.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Today&#39;s meeting was held barely&nbsp;a fortnight after Prime Minister Narendra Modi and visiting Afghan President Ashraf Ghani, during their talks here, had emphasised on accelerating&nbsp;the trilateral pact.</p>

<p>&quot;We will try to complete the project within the time schedule. We are also finding out what are the new things for which we will have opportunity for development and investment. The Iranian minister has given lots of innovative suggestions regarding the development of business,&quot; Gadkari said.</p>

<p>&quot;We are in the process and our prime minister is very keen on the project...The distance between Kandla to Chabahar is less than the distance between Delhi to Mumbai. So there are lots of opportunities. Gas and petroleum products in Iran are available. We will get the market of Afghanistan also and the material from Afghanistan to Chabahar will be accessible to India.&quot;&nbsp;</p>

<p>Gadkari and the visiting ministers today pored over the contract today in a bid to finish the project on time.</p>

<p>They also stressed on the need for expanding scope of cooperation to cover development of entire Chabahar port, projects for funding by EXIM Bank of India and reviewing participation of India in the Chabahar-Zahedan rail construction project.</p>

India, Iran and Afghanistan look to expedite Chabahar pact

Newly-elected chief minister of western Indian state of Gujarat Vijay Rupani will be meeting governor O P Kohli today to stake claim to form a new government in the state.&nbsp;<br />

State health minister Nitish Patel, who was named as the deputy chief minster, will also join Rupani in meeting the governor at 11 this morning.<br />

The decision comes as a major twist as Patel was the frontrunner for the post after Rupani had bowed out from the race, saying he would like to work for the party.<br />
