The analysis referred to sexual assault, sexual harassment and rape as the open secret of the surgery.&nbsp;

The report revealed untold stories of female surgeons being fondled inside their scrubs, men rubbing erections against the women staff and male surgeons wiping their brows on the breasts of female colleagues.

As per the study, some were even offered career opportunities in exchange for sex.

The analysis, which was done by the Working Party on Sexual Misconduct in Surgery, the University of Surrey and the University of Exeter, was published by the BBC News.

Almost two-thirds of women surgeons, while responding to the researchers, claimed to have faced sexual harassment and a third of them were sexually assaulted by colleagues in the last five years.

Women stated that they feared if the incidents were reported, it would damage their careers and they did not have confidence in the fact that NHS would take action.

<h2>Sexual assault inside operating theatre</h2>

A talented consultant surgeon, while speaking to BBC News, said that she faced sexual assault early in her career when she was the weakest person in the operating theatre and a senior male surgeon present there was sweating.

She narrated, "[He] just turned round and buried his head right into my breasts and I realised he was wiping his brow on me. You just freeze right, 'why is his face in my cleavage?'"&nbsp;

When the incident happened for the second time, the woman gave him a towel. "The surgeon replied, 'no, this is much more fun'," she said, adding, "and it was the smirk - I felt dirty, I felt humiliated".

In the United Kingdom, a top children's doctor has issued a warning over the delay in a new vaccine to combat respiratory syncytial virus (RSV). claiming that the dire situation may lead to more babies and infants in need of hospital treatment this winter.&nbsp;

Dr Camilla Kingdon, who is the president of the Royal College of Paediatrics and Child Health (RCPCH), told The Independent that she is frustrated as an RSV vaccine for babies has not yet been rolled out.&nbsp;

Dr Kingdon said: "We are frustrated [because] if we had acted sooner, we might have at least reduced the extent of the impact this winter and we have missed an opportunity there."&nbsp;

RSV is a common cause of pneumonia but often causes cold-like symptoms. Since the virus was originally discovered in 1956, efforts to successfully manufacture a shot have been thwarted by the virus' complicated molecular structure and safety issues with earlier vaccine attempts.&nbsp;

Earlier this year in July, Britain's health regulator approved GSK's vaccine for RSV. The Medicines and Healthcare Products Regulatory Agency (MHRA) authorised GSK's shot, called Arexvy, for active immunisation to prevent lower respiratory tract disease caused by RSV in adults 60 years and older.&nbsp;

A Department of Health and Social Care spokesperson told The Independent: "The NHS already offers monoclonal antibodies which provide protection against RSV to infants at very high risk. We are developing plans for delivering wider infant and adult RSV programmes in collaboration with UKHSA, NHS England and manufacturers. We will update in due course."&nbsp;

“We know that delays to care have significant impacts on people’s lives, putting many in danger,” said Louise Ansari, the chief executive of Healthwatch England as quoted by The Guardian.

The NHS however, has criticised the findings of Labour saying that they were unreliable and misleading.

“This analysis, based on figures from just a quarter of hospital trusts, does not demonstrate a link between waits for elective treatment and deaths, and it would be misleading to suggest it does, given the data does not include the cause of death or any further details on the person’s age and medical conditions,” an NHS spokesperson said as quoted by The Guardian.

"Protection from previous infection will also be waning in the absence of a large wave for several months," Pagel said, adding it is likely that this wave is hitting a more susceptible population than the last few. The United Kingdom is staring at a health crisis with a hospital waiting list topping over 7.57 million in England for the very first time. According to the NHS strikes by Junior doctors for about three days in the month of June had led to the cancellation of more than a hundred thousand appointments.

The figures published by NHS England this morning revealed an estimated 7.6 million people were waiting to start treatment at the end of June this year, which is slightly up from the numbers recorded in the month of May which were 7.5 million.

These are the highest numbers ever reported since the records began in the year 2007.

During his speech at the beginning of this year, Sunak had said, “NHS waiting lists will fall and people will get the care they need more quickly.”

The NHS data also showed that the total number of people, who had been waiting for more than 52 weeks to start routine hospital treatment at the end of June, had gone down from 385,022 to 383,083.

At the end of June, the estimated figure to have been waiting for more than 18 months was 7,177, as compared to 11,446, which was recorded at the end of May.

Both the government and NHS England had aimed at eliminating waitings of more than 18 months by April 2023, except for the complex cases.

The revelation of the figures comes after the NHS declared that the patients impacted by backlogs could bypass the queue at their local hospital if they are ready to travel to other parts of England.

“We must use every available resource to deliver life-saving checks to ease pressure on the NHS,” PA Media quoted Health Secretary Steve Barclay as saying.

“A decade of underinvestment in the NHS has led to dire consequences for patients and pushed many nursing staff out of the profession they love and with unrelenting pressure on those who remain,” she added.

He said above 5 per cent wasn’t realistic - Scotland proved him wrong. He refused to even acknowledge the concept of pay restoration - Scotland proved this is not only possible but essential."

Criticising the inflexible stance taken by the Prime Minister and the Health Secretary&nbsp;Steve Barclay, they stated that talks need to be resumed and argued that the UK government's refusal to engage in dialogue with junior doctors in England, despite strikes being planned, goes against the norms of industrial action.

Expressing their frustration with the government, they said, "The complete inflexibility we see from the UK government today is baffling, frustrating and ultimately destructive for everyone who wants waiting lists to go down and NHS staffing numbers to go up."

Further, they pointed out that the UK government has missed several opportunities to provide a credible offer and bring an end to the industrial action by junior doctors.

They emphasised that while there are differences between the positions of junior doctors and the governments of England and Scotland, "the UK government has far more financial freedom to give doctors what they deserve."

<h2>How the strike will affect patients</h2>

As per Saffron Cordery, Deputy Chief Executive of NHS Providers, the disruption caused by strikes is not only affecting patients but is also eroding the relationship between trust leaders and their staff.

Cordery emphasised the growing risk of delaying treatment for thousands of patients and the strain it places on already overstretched services, making it harder to reduce waiting lists.

As per Barclay the BMA's pay demand of 35 per cent or more is "unreasonable" and inflationary.

"We were in discussions about pay and a range of other measures to improve the working lives of junior doctors until their representatives collapsed the negotiations by announcing further strikes. A pay demand of 35 per cent or more is unreasonable and risks fuelling inflation, which makes everyone poorer."
