Myanmar's junta leader has not been invited to an ASEAN regional summit happening next month, host nation Cambodia announced on Wednesday.

In what can be seen as a fresh diplomatic snub, the junta has been invited to "nominate a non-political representative for the upcoming ASEAN Summits". This means that junta chief Min Aung Hlaing won't be allowed to attend the summit.

Since the military junta seized power last year, ASEAN has led diplomatic efforts to resolve the conflict in Myanmar. However, as per AFP, there has been little progress on the "five-point consensus" agreed on with the junta.

As a result, the group, its leader and ministers have in the recent past been shut out of meetings of the 10-member regional bloc ASEAN. In February and August, junta's top diplomat was barred from attending the bloc's foreign minister gatherings in Phnom Penh, Cambodia.

The five-point consensus calls for an immediate end to the violence in Myanmar. It also urges for a dialogue between the military and the anti-coup movement.

ASEAN's latest snub comes as the United States attempts to pressure the junta through United Nations after an air strike in September killed 11 schoolchildren.

Previously, the August meeting of ASEAN foreign ministers had ended with a rare condemnation of the junta's actions. The ministers had remarked that they were "deeply disappointed by the limited progress in and lack of commitment of the Naypyidaw authorities to the timely and complete implementation of the five-point consensus".

A former political employee from Australia claimed she felt "trapped" and "not human" during alleged rape inside Canberra's Parliament House.

Brittany Higgins was allegedly sexually attacked by Bruce Lehrmann in March 2019 when she was intoxicated and dozing off in a government minister's office, according to the prosecution.

Lehrmann, 27, entered a not guilty plea and says they never had intercourse. This week's trial in a court in Canberra got underway, and numerous well-known witnesses are likely to testify.

Higgins, who was testifying in court for the first time, said she had known Lehrmann for less than a month before the alleged attack on March 23 and that he had attempted to kiss her after a work function in the weeks prior.

Higgins had earlier testified that she and Lehrmann had planned to share a vehicle home after a night out with friends but had instead stopped at Parliament House in a police interview that was shown to the jury.

Higgins stated during a second police interview that she was hesitant to inform her supervisors of what had occurred because she feared losing her job and felt "disposable."

If the very manufacturers of a machine expect it to work for only a six-month duration, then it must be taken for granted that every additional day (beyond six months) of its operation is purely a bonus.

If the very manufacturers of a machine expect it to work for only a six-month duration, then it must be taken for granted that every additional day (beyond six months) of its operation is purely a bonus. The aforementioned situation is all the more applicable when it comes to machines that have to entirely operate in the harsh environs of Earth's orbit, deep space, or specifically Mars orbit. We are referring to India's maiden Mars Orbiter Mission(MoM) Mangalyaan, which is speculated to have recently reached the end of its life, after completing nine successful years post-launch from the Earth. There have been recent reports regarding Mangalyaan having run out of fuel and its battery being drained. However, the Indian space agency i.e. ISRO (Indian Space Research Organization) has not yet come out with any official communication in this regard. Firstly, one must understand that satellites carry a finite amount of fuel and can exhaust them sooner or later depending on how many times they have to fire their engine(s). In the case of Mangalyaan, the spacecraft had to expend fuel to perform multiple Orbit Raising Manoeuvres (ORM) and also to insert itself into Martian orbit and thereafter get aligned into the final intended orbit. Additionally, the spacecraft had to also perform burns to correct its orbit and also to avoid any comet showers. Despite all this, the spacecraft functioned for at least eight years in Martian orbit and performed scientific activities to study the Martian surface features, morphology, mineralogy, and Martian atmosphere. Read more: India's Mangalyaan mission comes to an end with no fuel and drained battery, says source According to ISRO, the highlights of this mission include having taken snapshots of the full disc of Mars at its farthest point and finer details from the closest point as well as first-time observation of the far side of Deimos, one of the moons of Mars. The Mars Colour Camera, one of the scientific payloads onboard the spacecraft, has produced 1100+ images so far and published a Mars Atlas, and has helped publish more than 35 research papers in peer-reviewed journals. As recently as last week, speaking at an event commemorating '8 Years of Mangalyaan', a senior ISRO scientist shared specific details on the MoM. "Right now, we have no fuel left, to be able to change the geometry of the spacecraft to the sun" the scientist is heard saying in the video. It was also elaborated that the spacecraft had to operate during back-to-back, long-duration eclipses(periods when the shadow of Mars falls on it, thus hindering its ability to receive solar energy on its panels and charge its batteries). Sr #ISRO scientist says “Right now, there is no fuel left..we are not able to change the geometry between the spacecraft and the sun”.. this is from last week’s @isro event titled ‘8 yrs of #Mangalyaan #MarsOrbiter ‘ ISRO foresaw the inevitable! Hoping for a statement on MoM pic.twitter.com/JXIHUlNF8K — Sidharth.M.P (@sdhrthmp) October 3, 2022 × "From April 1, 2022, we have had back-to-back long eclipses that spanned anywhere from 30 minutes to seven-and-a-half hours...the one we really survived was an eclipse that lasted six and a half hours," the scientist says. Notably, the spacecraft did a critical manoeuvre in 2017 and ended up burning 20 kilogrammes of its 33 kg fuel. After that manoeuvre, the spacecraft had only 13 kg of fuel left, of which 2.5 kg is required every year for basic manoeuvres to remain in orbit, the scientist stated. Finally, it was added that there is only around 2 or 2.4 kg of fuel left in the spacecraft and that quantity won't be sufficient for any future manoeuvres. Read more: ISRO VSSC Director explains significance of latest hybrid rocket motor test Going by that statement, it is evident that ISRO has been well aware of the inevitable. Perhaps, the agency is making final attempts to possibly establish contact with the spacecraft and ascertain its condition. Under these conditions, it would be best for the Indian space agency itself to use proper channels and expeditiously communicate relevant information on MoM's health. This mission was accomplished in September 2014. Since mid-2015 (beyond the planned six months) the functioning of the spacecraft is only a bonus. For the coming times, the focus must remain on making the best use of the scientific data captured by this mission and enhancing the knowledge base about Mars and applying those lessons in future Mars exploration missions. Following a NASA launch on Wednesday, a US astronaut has become the first Native American woman in space.

One of the four astronauts that took off from Florida at noon on their way to the International Space Station is Marine Colonel Nicole Mann, a 45-year-old (ISS). They were sent on a course to catch the orbiting outpost in around 29 hours by the SpaceX Falcon rocket.

Col. Mann expressed to the BBC her hope that the mission will serve as an example for future Native American generations. Young Native American youngsters will be inspired, in her words, "to follow their dreams and realise that some of those barriers that are there or used to be there are being broken down."

Col. Mann, a US Marine Corps pilot with a Wailacki Indian Tribe registration, has a wealth of expertise flying a variety of aircraft. She has been deployed to both Iraq and Afghanistan and has received six medals for her service.

Tribes have long complained of social prejudice that causes them to struggle economically and underfund their schools. Singaporean authorities have made their largest-ever rhino horn capture with a US $830,000 haul seized from a smuggler arriving from South Africa on Wednesday.

Twenty pieces of horn, totalling 34 kilogrammes (75 pounds), were reportedly found in two pieces of luggage on Tuesday at Singapore Changi Airport, according to the city-National state's Parks Board.

Sniffer dogs discovered the contraband, which belonged to a passenger continuing on to Laos, the board reported, adding that the suspect had been detained.

In a statement, it claimed that "this is the largest seizure of rhinoceros horns in Singapore to date."

The International Convention on the Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora (CITES) protects rhinos and forbids the trade of rhino horns internationally.

The board stated that after the seized horns have undergone genetic testing to determine their species, they would be destroyed to stop them from re-entering the market.

In certain regions of Asia, rhino horns are regarded as status symbols and are said to offer therapeutic benefits. Additionally, they are carved into jewellery and home furnishings like combs, buttons, and belt buckles.
