It's been over a week since New Zealand's government announced taxes on cattle burps and urine emissions to control agricultural emissions.

Framers have now begun protesting against the decision.

Convoys of farmers' vehicles were seen in Auckland, Wellington, and other states, demanding the government to take back what they call the "burp and fart" tax. Thousands of farmers were seen carrying placards that read, "We're not going to take it."

The rule was announced by Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern, stating it to be the first in the world to attempt to control methane and nitrous oxide emissions.

Methane is one of the most harmful gases. In New Zealand, methane emissions from over six million cows are one of the major environmental problems.

Ardern argued that this law is needed to slow down emissions and could even benefit farmers if they charged for climate-friendly meat.

However, the protest organiser Bryan Mackenzie said, "The government's ideological commitment to punitive and counterproductive emissions taxes on food production is an existential threat to rural communities."

"After years of faux consultation, the government has given up on all pretence of a fair and workable agricultural emissions policy," AFP quoted him as saying.

According to scientists, agriculture emissions are nearly responsible for 30 per cent of the country's climate conditions. Environmentalists argued that the farmers are stuck in the mud, and if they don't implement the rule, they with everyone will suffer due to the climate condition of the country worsening.

Weeks after annexing the Ukrainian territories of Donetsk, Luhansk, Kherson and Zaporizhzhia through a series of referendums, Russian President Vladimir Putin on Wednesday announced he was imposing martial law in the regions. According to Putin, the order by him will increase the stability of the economy and the industry which will eventually contribute to the 'special military operation' ordered by him in Ukraine. "We are working on solving very complex, large-scale tasks to ensure a reliable future for Russia, the future of our people," he said. The move of imposing martial law comes a day after Russian spokesman Dmitry Peskov said all four annexed regions are under the protection of its nuclear arsenal. "All these territories are inalienable parts of the Russian Federation and they are all protected. Their security is provided for at the same level as [it is for] the rest of Russia's territory," Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov told the reporters. The death toll from an Ebola epidemic declared last month in Uganda has climbed to 44, the World Health Organization said on Wednesday.

"We remain concerned that there may be more chains of transmission and more contacts than we know about in the affected communities," he added.

The previous death toll provided by the WHO on October 5 reported 29 fatalities.

President Yoweri Museveni last week ordered two districts at the heart of the epidemic in central Uganda to be put under lockdown, imposing a travel ban, a curfew and the closure of public places.

Museveni had already ordered traditional healers to stop treating the sick, in a bid to stop the spread of the virus.

He also ordered the police to arrest anyone infected with Ebola who refused to isolate.

The authorities say the outbreak remains concentrated in the central districts of Mubende and Kassanda has not reached Kampala, despite a couple testing positive for the virus in the capital.

Tedros on Wednesday said two cases from Mubende sought care in Kampala, "increasing the risks of transmission in the city" of 1.5 million people.

Ebola is spread through bodily fluids, with common symptoms being fever, vomiting, bleeding and diarrhoea.

Outbreaks are difficult to contain, especially in urban environments.

Uganda's last recorded fatality from a previous Ebola outbreak was in 2019.

The particular strain now circulating in Uganda is known as the Sudan Ebola virus, for which there is currently no vaccine.

The World Health Organization says clinical trials could start within weeks on drugs to combat that strain.

The policy was first coined in 2014 by former foreign minister Margot Walolstrom, in the hope to mark gender equality in the country. The policy was introduced to increase female participation in the administration along with fighting sexual violence and economic emancipation, AFP reported.

The "feminist foreign policy" has been adopted by several other countries but some are opposed like the middle east. According to a document published in 2021, Sweden was able to help contribute its new policies to countries like Somalia and Moldova. The policy was also added to Colombia's 206 peace deal.

The document further stated that the policy was also able to contribute to new legislation in at least 20 countries including gender-based violence, female genital mutilation and more.
