The Netherlands wants to shut down operations of Europe's largest gas field, Groningen, by October as operations are "very dangerous" to continue and further gas extraction poses the risk of causing increased seismic activity in the region.&nbsp;&nbsp;

However, the war in Ukraine and the subsequent sanctions on Russian gas have put the European nation in a difficult spot. Hans Vijlbrief, state secretary for mining, said he aims to close the earthquake-prone Groningen gas field by 1 October, however, the Europe gas shortage in winter might delay the plans altogether till October 2024.

Due to the danger of high seismic activity in the region, the production at the gas field has been cut short to just a fraction of its full capacity, said Vijlbrief in a conversation with Financial Times.&nbsp;

“We won’t open up more because of the safety issues,” he said adding, “It is politically totally unviable. But apart from that, I’m not going to do it because it means that you increase the chances of earthquakes, which I don’t want to be responsible for.”

In Netherlands’ northeast, the Groningen gas field is close to the German border and has felt about 100 tremors annually since the 1980s.

The gas excavation was increased during summers after Russian sanctions but due to the increased risk of earthquakes, the annual output has been reduced to 2.8 bcm. Vijlbrief said that it is potentially dangerous to take production beyond 5bcm.&nbsp;

Why does Netherlands wants to close Europe's largest gasfield, Groningen?

An old map has emerged, which is believed to indicate the way to the spot where treasure worth millions of euros was hidden by German soldiers during World War 2, following which several amateur treasure hunters have gathered, looking for the gold, in the Netherlands.&nbsp;The groups, carrying shovels and metal detectors, are seen wandering across the fields surrounding rural Ommeren, which lies in the country's east after the Dutch National Archive made the map public on Tuesday.&nbsp;

The archive stated that the map is believed to be indicating&nbsp;the way to the location where four large boxes filled with gold, silvers, rubies, diamonds and pieces of jewellery, looted by Nazi soldiers were hidden after an explosion.&nbsp;

A German soldier handed over the map soon after the Netherlands got freedom from Nazi occupation in 1945. This week, the research file containing the map was released as the maximum years of holding it confidential, which is 75 years, had lapsed.&nbsp;

National Archive spokeswoman Anne-Marieke Samson, while speaking to Reuters, said that they could never completely confirm the treasure's existence, however, various failed attempts were made by the institute to find it in 1947.&nbsp;

"We don't know for sure if the treasure existed. But the institute did a lot of checks and found the story reliable," said Samson said. "But they never found it and if it existed, the treasure might very well have been dug up already," she added.&nbsp;

However, the amateur gold diggers are not deterred by the small chance of discovering the treasure.

Jan Henzen, aged 57, said, "I see groups of people with metal detectors everywhere." &nbsp;

"Like a lot of people, the news about the treasure made me go look for myself. The chance of the treasure still being here after 70 years is very small I think, but I want to give it a try," he added.&nbsp;

Dutch Prime Minister Mark Rutte issued an official apology on Monday for Netherlands' historical involvement in slavery for 250 years, as he said that it was a crime committed against humanity and acknowledged the continued consequences of slavery in the present day.

In his nationally broadcasted speech, Rutte said, “Today I apologise. For centuries the Dutch state and its representatives have enabled and stimulated slavery and have profited from it.”

"It is true that nobody alive today bears any personal guilt for slavery...(however) the Dutch state bears responsibility for the immense suffering that has been done to those that were enslaved and their descendants,” he added.

Rutte made the official apology amid growing reconsideration of the Netherlands’ colonial past, which includes steps taken to return the looted wealth and the current struggle of the country with racism.

The prime minister’s apology in The Hague faced resistance from groups who argued that King Willem-Alexander should have issued an apology on July 1, 2023, in former colony Suriname to mark Dutch abolition’s 160th anniversary. Dutch Afro-Surinamese organisation Honour and Recovery Foundation’s Roy Kaikusi Groenberg said, "It takes two to tango - apologies have to be received.”

He added that it was wrong to not sufficiently consult activists who have worked for years to change the wave of discussion in the country. "The way the government is handling this, it's coming across as a neo-colonial belch," Groenberg said.

PM Rutte accepted that the announcement was clumsily handled and added that representatives are being sent by the Dutch government to Suriname along with the Caribbean islands that are part of the Netherlands with different degrees of autonomy - Sint Maarten, Sint Eustatius, Curacao, Saba, Aruba and Bonaire.

The Dutch foreign ministry issued an apology on Monday after a study claimed that institutional racism was widespread and that persons of ethnic backgrounds were repeatedly alluded to as "monkeys" and other derogatory terms.&nbsp;Employees of colour frequently felt cold-shouldered and neglected by white colleagues at the ministry, according to the independent research, which was commissioned in the aftermath of the Black Lives Matter movement.

They "were not often subjected to physical assault," according to the report, but they frequently endured "verbal hostility" when they overheard others disparaging others based on their skin colour, religion, or country of origin.

"A number of employees have said that people have been referred to as 'monkeys', 'bokitos', 'negroes' and 'Black Pete' because of their skin colour," the report said.

"African countries have been described by one employee as 'monkey countries.'"

Argentina will face Croatia in the World Cup semi-finals after beating the Netherlands 4-3 on penalties following a thrilling 2-2 extra-time draw on a night of high World Cup drama.

Argentina goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez was the hero in the shootout after the South Americans let a two-goal lead slip in the final minutes of normal time after Lionel Messi had put them on the brink of the last four.

Wout Weghorst scored two dramatic late goals, the second from a remarkably inventive free-kick in the 11th minute of stoppage time, as the Netherlands fought back with seven minutes of normal time remaining to force extra-time.

Argentine had looked well set to reach the last four after Messi conjured up a brilliant assist for Nahuel Molina and a clinical goal from the penalty spot.

Just hours after Brazil and Neymar crashed out of the tournament on penalties to the Croats, Argentina survived to keep South American interest in the competition.

The Lusail Stadium felt like home for Argentina with at least three quarters of the 88,235 crowd backing the South American team and only a smattering of orange shirts in the crowd.

But all were treated to a thrilling late night drama that finally reached its conclusion just before 1 a.m. local time.

After a cagey start, Messi produced a moment of inspiration, ten minutes before the interval, to create the opener for his team.

Offering no clues of his intent, he split open the Dutch defence with a sublime reverse pass between Daley Blind and&nbsp;
Virgil van Dijk into the path of Nahuel Molina who timed his run perfectly and slotted home with the outside of his foot.

Dutch coach Luis van Gaal responded at the break by making a double change, bringing Teun Koopmeiners and Steven Berghuis on into midfield in place of Bergwijn and Marten De Roon.

But while the Dutch saw plenty of the ball their play remained too predictable and guileless.

Free-kick genius

The momentum was with the Argentines and it was no surprise when they extended their lead in the 73rd minute after Denzel Dumphries tripped Marcos Acuna in the box and Messi made no mistake from the spot, burying the ball in the corner.

The Dutch, though, were not about to go out with a whimper -- pulling a goal back, seven minutes from the end, with an angled glancing header from Weghorst from a Berghuis cross from deep.

Ten minutes of added time raised Dutch hopes and - tempers with a couple of mass confrontations - and &nbsp;they moved Van Dijk up front and pumped balls int the box.

Deep into added time, one of those high balls, led to a free-kick just outside the area.

Koopmeiners feigned an expected shot before instead, to everyone's surprise, playing a short pass into Weghorst, who twisted past Enzo Fernandez and poked home the equaliser.

The wild celebrations over, the game went into extra-time and curiously became becalmed, only sparking back into life late in the second period.

Lautaro Martinez saw a powerful goalbound shot deflected off Van Djik and then another deflected effort, from Fernandez, flew just over the bar.

Lautaro then forced a diving save out of Noppert and Messi screwed a shot wide and only the post kept out a long-range drive from Fernandez.

After all that, it was penalties.

Van Dijk was up first and Martinez dived to his right to save. Messi followed and made no mistake before Martinez saved again from Berghuis.

This time there was no way back for the Dutch as, even despite a miss from Fernandez, Argentina held on to win the shoot-out and head into the semi-finals.

Argentina beat Netherlands on penalties to reach World Cup semis

Argentina will look forward to beat Netherlands in 90 minutes for the first time in the FIFA World Cup 2022 on Saturday, December 10.

FIFA World Cup 2022: Argentina targets semi-final but Netherlands can surprise

Groups from former Dutch colonies have criticised the timing of possible apology for slavery from Dutch government. Though it is not explicitly clear whether it will be a formal apology from the government, Dutch PM Mark Rutte has said that there would be a "meaningful moment" on the subject on December 19.

His statement came after he held discussion with representative groups.

Groups from former colonies such as Suriname in South America and Caribbean countries have opposed the "arbitrary" December date, and said they were not consulted.

They want any apology to come on July 1, 2023, the 150th anniversary of the end of slavery in Dutch-held lands, which had funded an economic and cultural "Golden Age" of the Netherlands.

"You assume it will be done in a way that both parties are satisfied with, but that is absolutely not the case with us," said Johan Roozer, chairman of the Surinamese National Commemoration of Slavery Remembrance Committee.

Roozer said that Dutch PM wanted to stick to December 19 because of the "changing political situation" due to Dutch far-right parties rising in polls and opposing the apology.

Rutte said the government wanted to "make a success" of the date and that it was part of a "process". Rutte also hit out at the "extremely unfortunate" leaking by Dutch media of the date.

The Netherlands has been slowly coming to grips with the legacy of its colonial history and its role in 250 years of slavery in Suriname, Brazil, the Caribbean, Asia and South Africa.

The city of Amsterdam has formally apologised for its role in the slave trade, while the city's Rijksmuseum last year held the first exhibition confronting the issue.

Slavery helped fund the Dutch "Golden Age" that built Amsterdam's famed canal houses and produced the art that now fills the Rijksmuseum and other galleries.

The Netherlands will meet last year's Copa America winners Argentina on Friday night in the FIFA World Cup quarter-finals.

FIFA World Cup: Argentina and Netherlands to meet in the quarter-finals

On Saturday, the first day of the World Cup's knockout round, only two matches are being played, and only one European team is taking the field: the Netherlands against the United States.

Qatar FIFA World Cup: Round of 16 stage kicks off today; Netherlands take on US

Cody Gakpo scored again as the Netherlands booked their place in the World Cup last 16 as group winners with a straightforward 2-0 victory over hosts Qatar on Tuesday. The Netherlands, needing just a point to be sure of progressing, put one foot in the next round inside the first half-hour as Gakpo scored for a third straight group game. Frenkie de Jong added another in the 49th minute as the Dutch cruised through in a flat atmosphere at the Al Bayt Stadium.

Qatar, already eliminated before kick-off, suffered the ignominy of becoming the first home team in World Cup history to finish the group stage without a point. Louis van Gaal's Dutch side ended with seven points at the top of Group A, while Senegal joined them in the knockout phase as runners-up after beating Ecuador 2-1. The Oranje will next take on the second-placed team from Group B for a quarter-final spot at the Khalifa International Stadium on Saturday.

England currently top that section and face Wales later on Tuesday, while the United States play Iran. All four teams are still in the hunt for qualification. The Dutch have made a solid start as they look to put the disappointment of failing to qualify for the 2018 World Cup in Russia firmly behind them. Qatar signed off from their long-awaited home World Cup with a whimper, securing their place in the record books as the worst ever hosts on the pitch.

Van Gaal was able to give Memphis Depay his first start of the tournament as the Barcelona star continued his return to full fitness after a hamstring injury. It did not take the Dutch long to slice through the Qatar defence, although Daley Blind could only scuff a fourth-minute attempt straight at goalkeeper Meshaal Barsham. The opening goal arrived in the 26th minute as Davy Klaassen played in Gakpo after a neat move also involving Depay.

The PSV Eindhoven winger drove forward and drilled a low strike into the bottom corner from the edge of the box to score his third goal of the tournament. The three-time World Cup runners-up took advantage of shoddy Qatar defending to double their advantage four minutes after the break.

Depay was denied from close range by Barsham but De Jong reacted quicker than a ponderous Pedro Miguel to poke the ball home from barely a yard out. Substitute Steven Berghuis thought he had added a third midway through the second half, only for his goal to be ruled out after a VAR check for a handball by Gakpo in the build-up. There was brief excitement for the remaining home supporters late on when Mohammed Muntari prodded the ball into the net, but the whistle had long since gone for a foul on Virgil van Dijk.&nbsp; The Netherlands almost piled more misery onto Qatar in stoppage time when Berghuis' excellent curling strike from range hit the crossbar.

Kalidou Koulibaly takes Senegal into knockouts

Kalidou Koulibaly sent Senegal into the World Cup knockouts for just the second time in their history with the winner in Tuesday's dramatic 2-1 win over Ecuador. The Netherlands' dominant victory over Qatar meant only a win would see Senegal through to the knockouts from Group A, while Ecuador would have progressed with a draw.

Senegal opened the scoring through Ismaila Sarr's penalty late in the first half, but despite managing to keep Ecuador captain Enner Valencia quiet throughout, Brighton's Moises Caicedo levelled in the 67th minute before Koulibaly sent his team through and Ecuador home. Senegal manager Aliou Cisse promised before the game his experienced side "would not overthink" the occasion and it was the Africans who opened the game furiously, with Everton's Idrissa Gana Gueye lashing the ball just wide of an open goal after only three minutes.&nbsp;

Less than a minute later, Ecuador goalkeeper Hernan Galindez needed to bail out his side's high backline, sliding in to stifle a counter well outside his box.&nbsp; On the 10 minute mark, Senegal's Boulaye Dia found himself one-on-one with Galindez, but he cut the ball just wide of the post.

Seemingly sparked into life by Senegal's fierce opening, Ecuador pushed forward and won a free-kick 30 metres from goal, with the South Americans taking the opportunity for a rare breather before Valencia slammed the ball into the wall. &nbsp;

After the furious opening exchanges, both sides began to settle and the first half looked set to end goalless before Ecuador defender Piero Hincapie clattered into Sarr, giving referee Clement Turpin no choice but to point to the spot.&nbsp;

Sarr stepped up and coolly dispatched a fine spot-kick past Galindez, maintaining eye contact with the keeper as the ball went in.&nbsp; Ecuador started the second half fresher and more determined, perhaps reassured that the Netherlands' dominance over Qatar meant they only needed a draw to go through. From a free-kick, defender Felix Torres rose high to head the ball on to Caicedo, who was waiting at the far post and slammed the ball home.&nbsp;

Senegal struck back immediately and in almost identical fashion, with Koulibaly lurking unmarked at the far post following a free-kick which was deflected into his path by Hincapie. Coming into the match on a yellow card, Gueye picked up a second-half booking and will miss Senegal's last-16 game against the winners of Group B.&nbsp;

FIFA WC: Netherlands beat Qatar, Senegal go past Ecuador as both sides reach last 16

Cody Gakpo's second World Cup goal gave Louis van Gaal's team the lead against Ecuador. However, Enner Valencia equalised the score early in the second half, and the two teams ended up sharing the victory. This means that Holland still has work to do if they hope to advance further in the tournament. Van Gaal's team would advance to the round of 16 if they defeated Qatar or drew with them. They would also advance if Ecuador defeated Senegal. The Netherlands won't want to take any chances with their advancement, but it would be shocking if they weren't able to advance from this spot.

The host nation, Qatar, was ousted from the competition in the group stage after losing its first two games to Senegal and Ecuador. On November 20, Ecuador defeated Felix Sanchez's team 2-0 to begin their Group A campaign. On Friday, Senegal defeated them 3-1 in their second encounter of the competition. Senegal defeated Qatar in their match in the 78th minute to reduce the deficit, but Aliou Cisse's team went on to win all three points with a goal in the 84th, leaving the host nation with nothing to play for in what would be their final game of the 2022 campaign.&nbsp;

<h2>Qatar vs. Netherlands Head to Head&nbsp;</h2>

Qatar has never played Netherlands in an international game; so, they will make further history on Tuesday, and it would be a significant accomplishment if they were able to win at Al Bayt Stadium in Al Khor. In their last game, Qatar will be motivated to give their fans something to cheer about, but it is tough for us to predict a result other than a victory for the Netherlands. Since Van Gaal's team has performed admirably throughout the competition, we fully anticipate them to finish Group A with seven points.

When selecting his starting lineup for Tuesday's match against Qatar, Netherlands manager Van Gaal must make a lot of important choices. As he works to recover from an injury, Memphis Depay has now made two appearances off the bench in the competition. However, the Barcelona forward may start this match.

On Sunday, Morocco pulled off an unlikely heist by beating&nbsp;Belgium in the ongoing FIFA World Cup. However, what should have been a moment of celebration for Moroccan fans quickly turned chaotic in Belgium and Netherlands as riots broke out in several cities.&nbsp;

In the capital city of Brussels, the police were forced to detain over a dozen people while eight were arrested in the Northern city of Antwerp.

The arrests took place after the police deployed water cannons and tear gas to disperse the unruly mob of supporters that had gathered to celebrate Morocco's victory.&nbsp;

“Those are not fans, they are rioters. Moroccan fans are there to celebrate. There were also disturbances in the city of Antwerp and Liege," said&nbsp;Brussels mayor Philippe Close while urging people top stay away from the city centre.&nbsp;

Riots ensue in Belgian and Dutch cities after Morocco's surprise win at the World Cup

In the Group A match on Day 2 of FIFA World Cup 2022, the reigning champions of Africa, Senegal, and the Netherlands will lock horns at the Al Thumama stadium on Monday (November 21). Qualified as the leader of their qualifier group in World Cup, the West African nation has won their first Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) title in 2021, defeating Egypt. It has reached the AFCON finals twice and has built up an excellent squad since then. Considered to be on top of its game, Senegal under coach Aliou Cisse has had a fantastic fortune since he took up the job in 2015.

Senegal form

So far, Senegal have&nbsp;had a 69.33 win percentage. In what is seen as a major setback for them, squad caption Sadio Mane will remain absent from the World Cup. His absence will be felt by fans across the globe. Acknowledging the same, coach Cisse said that the whole football family is saddened by what has happened because Mane was the second-best player in the world and he represents the African continent.&nbsp;

Netherlands Form

One cannot take attention off the Netherlands. Under the leadership of veteran Louis Van Gaal and captain Virgil Van Dijk, the Dutch side has adopted an excellent form. The blend of young talents and veteran members is coming off as the squad's strength. This is the second time Coach Van Gaal is managing the team. He earlier enjoyed a successful spell with the Dutch team by reaching the semi-finals of the 2014 FIFA World Cup. The Oranje have reached three finals and now in Qatar, the team is aiming for their maiden triumph. It will be the spectators' joy to watch both Senegal and Netherlands head to head as the two teams are up for the first challenge in the Group A match. &nbsp;

Senegal vs Netherlands Head to Head

Monday's match will be the first time when the duo will face each other off as they have never met before this in an official game. It will be a tricky affair for Netherlands' coach Van Gaal given the fact that Senegal -- the Lions of Teranga -- are yet to lose to a European opponent in a group stage game. In 2018, Madagascar battled back to hold Senegal to a 2-2 draw in the Africa Cup of Nations qualifier and the West African nation is yet to concede multiple goals to the opposition.&nbsp;Head coach Aliou Cisse will be keeping a keen eye on not letting the game slip as the other side is led by Van Gaal.&nbsp;However, despite the success Senegal enjoyed in recent times, Sadio Mane was an integral part of it, and their side will greatly miss him. With a successful trail of events on its back, Senegal is sure to miss Sadio Mane. Senegal is currently ranked 18th in the FIFA rankings. The team has a perfect opening game record while the Netherlands is the 10th-ranked team but they are unbeaten in their previous eight openers, having&nbsp;won six of them.

The United States should not expect the Netherlands to follow its approach on China export restrictions, said a Dutch official on Friday, during an interview. These remarks were the first by the Netherlands on the issue as the United States President Joe Biden’s administration has been pushing for a multilateral agreement to impose restrictions on China which reportedly aims to keep advanced chip technologies away from Beijing and its military.&nbsp;

In an interview with a Dutch newspaper, NRC, Foreign Trade Minister, Liesje Schreinemacher said, “The Netherlands will not copy the American measures one-to-one.” The country will make its own assessment and consult partner countries such as Japan and the US, she added. The trade minister also said that the country will likely introduce certain export controls on China by itself.&nbsp;

Netherlands staged a massive upset in the ongoing T20 World Cup at the Adelaide Oval on Sunday after defeating South Africa in their last Super-12 encounter, ensuring India a place in the semi-finals.

The South African batters choked and failed to chase a moderate score of 159 runs as the Dutch bowlers restricted them to 145/8 in their 20 overs.&nbsp;

Brandon Glover starred with the ball for the Netherlands as the pacer claimed three wickets in his two overs.

The clash between Pakistan and Bangladesh has now become a virtual quarterfinal as the winner of the clash will join India in the semi-finals from group two.

Chasing the target, South African openers Temba Bavuma and Quinton de Kock got off to a quick start with de Kock smashing a four in the first over, following it with a six in the second over.

Netherland pacer Fred Klaassen dismissed de Kock in the third over to draw first blood for the team.

The Dutch team's potent pacer Paul van Meekeren removed the SA captain in the sixth over sending both the openers back to the pavilion.&nbsp;

Rilee Rossouw did play some attacking shots in his brief stay but was dismissed for 25(19) by Glover in the 10th over, reducing South Africa to 68/3 at the end of 10 overs.

Proteas batter Aiden Markram was dismissed by Fred Klaassen in the 13th over even as he looked in fine touch and was stitching an important partnership with David Miller.

In the 16th over, Glover dismissed Miller to dent the Proteas' chances of winning the match and advancing into the semi-finals.&nbsp;Bas de Leede got rid of Heinrich Klaasen in the 18th over, the only recognised batter at the crease to knock on the door of victory.

After Klaasen's wicket, it was mere formality for the Dutch team as the South African team needed 36 runs off the last two overs with no recognised batter at the crease and a limping Keshav Maharaj batting alongside Kagiso Rabada.

The Netherlands gave away just 12 runs in the last over to secure a 13-run victory, their first-ever on South Africa.

Earlier, a late flourish from Colin Ackermann and Tom Cooper helped the Netherlands reach a total of 158/4 against South Africa in its last Super-12 encounter at the Adelaide Oval in the ongoing T20 World Cup.

Ackermann top-scored for the Dutch with an explosive unbeaten 41 from 26 balls. Experienced Tom Cooper also made a vital contribution of 35 runs from 19 balls. Left-arm spinner Keshav Maharaj took two wickets for the Proteas.

Put into bat first, the Netherlands were off to a brilliant start, scoring 17 runs in the first 2 overs with Stephan Myburgh being the aggressive one. Max O'Dowd looked to push the ball into the gaps and play second fiddle to his partner.

The openers struck a total of eight elegant boundaries in the first six overs taking their team to 48 runs without loss at the end of the powerplay, making it their best powerplay score in this tournament.

Just when the Netherlands looked on the path to getting to a good score, Aiden Markram dismissed Myburgh in the ninth over to give his team the first breakthrough.

Right-hander Cooper attacked the bowlers from the word go and smacked a six early in his inning. The aggression rubbed off on O'Dowd and he too slammed a six seeing his partner go after the bowlers. The Dutch team finished at 70/1 at the end of 10 overs.

Left-arm finger spinner Maharaj was hit for a six in the 13th over but scalped the wicket of O'Dowd to bring Ackermann to the crease. The bowler also dismissed Cooper in the 15th over to bring two new batters to the crease for the last five overs.

Pacer Anrich Nortje sent back Bas de Leede in the 18th over, ending his scratchy inning where inn he scored just one run off seven balls.

Thanks to Ackermann's late blitz, the Netherlands managed to score 31 runs off the last two overs helping the team reach 158/4 in 20 overs.

Colin Ackermann was declared the 'Player of the Match' for his crucial knock.

In the 16th over, Glover dismissed Miller to dent the Proteas' chances of winning the match and advancing into the semi-finals. Bas de Leede got rid of Heinrich Klaasen in the 18th over, the only recognised batter at the crease to knock on the door of victory. WATCH WION LIVE HERE:

T20 WC 2022: Stunned by Netherlands, South Africa crash out after 13-run loss

On Tuesday, the Dutch government in a statement said that they would repatriate 12 women and 28 children from Kurdish-run detention camps in northern Syria. This would make it the largest of its kind operation by the Netherlands yet, said reports. This follows a Dutch court ruling in May, earlier this year, which has ordered that the women be brought back.&nbsp;

In a letter to the country’s parliament, Foreign Minister Wopke Hoekstra and Justice Minister Dilan Yesilgoz-Zegerius said, “The cabinet is transferring 12 Dutch women suspected of terrorist offenses and their 28 children to the Netherlands.” They added that the women will be arrested upon arrival in the country and will be tried.&nbsp;

Reports suggest that the Netherlands has long refused to repatriate women from Syrian refugee camps saying that it was their choice to go to the war-torn country. However, a Rotterdam court in May ordered the officials to repatriate these women and their children within the next four months so that their actions do not go “unpunished”.&nbsp;

According to Dutch government records, some 300 citizens have gone to Syria and this is not the first such operation conducted by the government as they had repatriated five women and eleven children from a Kurdish refugee camp earlier this year.&nbsp;

Netherlands set to repatriate at least 40 women and children from IS camps in Syria

Amid accusations of running illegal overseas police stations in several countries, including the Netherlands, China’s foreign ministry spokesperson Wang Wenbin said these allegations are “simply untrue”.&nbsp;

This comes after a human rights group report published last month&nbsp;and the recent statement by the Dutch foreign ministry which is reportedly in the midst of investigating these allegations. Reports suggest that these illegal police stations are being used to harass dissidents and bring them back to Beijing.

‘Simply untrue’: China denies allegations of running ‘illegal’ police station in Netherlands

The Dutch foreign ministry said Wednesday it was investigating reports that China has set up two illegal police stations in the Netherlands which it uses to harass dissidents.

Dutch media reported that the Chinese posts in Amsterdam and Rotterdam purported to offer diplomatic assistance, but that they had not been declared to the Netherlands' government.

"The police stations&nbsp;were being used to silence political opponents," broadcaster RTL and investigative website Follow the Money said, quoting a Chinese dissident living in the Netherlands.

China's foreign ministry said the reports were "completely false" and said the "service stations" were meant to help overseas citizens do things like renew driving licences.
The Netherlands said it was taking the claims "seriously".

"The ministry of foreign affairs is now investigating the activities of the so-called police centres. When we have more clarity about this, appropriate action will be taken," Dutch foreign ministry spokeswoman Maxime Hovenkamp told AFP.

"It is true that we have not been informed about the centres through diplomatic channels."

Bangladesh won their first-ever game in a Twenty20 World Cup Super 12 Monday, with Taskin Ahmed taking 4-25 as the Netherlands imploded early and never recovered, losing by nine runs. The Dutch, who battled through the preliminary round to reach the Super 12, held the Asian nation to 144-8 with Paul van Meekeren becoming his country's joint all-time T20 wicket-taker along the way.

But they got off to a horror start in the run chase, losing two wickets in the opening two balls to Ahmed, then slumped to 15-4 in cold conditions at Hobart to put them on the back foot. Colin Ackermann&nbsp;with 62 off 48 balls played a lone hand, making his maiden T20 half-century as partners fell around him and the Netherlands were all out for 135 on the final ball.

Defeat was a heavy blow with two points desperately needed in a group that features heavyweight opponents India, Pakistan and South Africa. But it was a relief for Bangladesh, who qualified directly for the Super 12 but have suffered from poor form since the 2021 World Cup, playing 19 T20 internationals, losing 14, before meeting the Dutch.

After being sent into bat, Bangladesh plundered 12 off Fred Klaassen's opening over and kept the pressure on as the bowlers struggled to maintain their line. With temperatures hovering around 12 Celsius (54 Fahrenheit), the Dutch took time to warm up but when Van Meekeren switched ends he found extra pace and Soumya Sarkar (14) mistimed a pull shot to Bas De Leede.

Spinner Tim Pringle was brought on and ended fellow opener Najmul Shanto's innings on 25 in the next over as Bangladesh faltered.

The momentum swung towards the Dutch with danger man Litton Das out for nine, slapping a Van Beek ball to Tim Cooper at mid-off, before the experienced Shakib Al Hasan fell four balls later, caught in the deep off Shariz Ahmad to leave Bangladesh at 70-4 before a brief rain interruption.

They returned and van Meekeren struck again, bowling Yasir Ali with a yorker to draw level on 58 wickets with Pieter Seelaar as the Netherland's top T20 wicket-taker, needing 22 fewer games to get there. Afif Hossain (38) and Nurul Hasan (13) put on 44 before De Leede removed them both in the same over as their innings drew to a close.

The Netherlands had the worst possible start, with Ahmed bagging two wickets in his first two balls. Vikramjit Singh edged to Yasir Ali at slip then De Leede got a nick to wicketkeeper Hasan before Ackermann successfully fended off the hat-trick ball.

Two needless run outs within three balls followed with Max O'Dowd (8) and Tom Cooper (0) the men left stranded. They reached 59-4 before captain Shaun Edwards was undone by the spin of Al Hasan then Pringle (1) departed to Hasan Mahmud.

The covers came on as the rain returned, but it was again a brief delay with Ackermann resuming the chase before he was out going for a boundary to be the ninth wicket to fall.

Netherlands to quit multi-nation fossil deal over climate change concerns

After Sri Lanka made it to the Super 12 round, of the T20 World Cup, with a 16-run win over the Netherlands in the qualifiers on Thursday (October 20), the onus was on Namibia to join them with a victory over UAE in Group A's last encounter. Namibia, who beat Sri Lanka in their tournament opener, failed to chase a modest 149 and were restricted to 141 for 8 in 20 overs to lose by seven runs and miss out on a Super 12 berth. From Group A, Sri Lanka will join Pool A in the next round whereas the Dutch line-up will be a part of the Team India-starrer Pool B.

Talking about the contest, UAE won the toss and opted to bat first. Riding on&nbsp;Muhammad Waseem's 41-ball 50, UAE were off to a cautious start. In the last few overs, the upped the ante courtesy of vital knocks from skipper&nbsp;Chundangapoyil Rizwan (29-ball 43) and&nbsp;Basil Hameed's 14-ball 25 not out. Namibia paid the price for leaking as many as 33 runs in the last 12 balls as UAE posted a competitive 149 for 3.&nbsp;

In reply, Namibia were off to a nervy start and lost wickets at regular intervals to be reeling at 46 for 5. Their chase was going nowhere before all-rounder David Weise's 36-ball 55 and&nbsp;Ruben Trumpelmann's 24-ball 25 kept them alive. Weise's big hits brought the chase alive and infused an intense battle in the last few overs before he fell with his side needing 10 off 3 balls.&nbsp;

T20 World Cup: David Wiese's 55 in vain as UAE eliminate Namibia, Netherlands enter Super 12

Netherlands beat Namibia in a low-scoring thriller during the qualifying round of the T20 World Cup 2022 edition, in Australia, on Tuesday (October 18). After a hard-fought win over UAE in their first game, Netherlands faced a high-spirited Namibia, who beat Sri Lanka in their opening fixture.

Opting to bat first, at the Simonds Stadium, Geelong, the Namibian inning didn't find the any kind of momentum.&nbsp;Courtesy of Jan Frylinck (43) and some contributions from the likes of Michael van Lingen, Stephan Baard, skipper Gerhard&nbsp;Erasmus and David Wiese's 5-ball 11 not out, they managed a paltry score of 121 for 6 in 20 overs. From Netherlands' perspective, Bas de Leede accounted for 2 for 18 whereas Tim Pringle, Colin Ackermann, Paul van Meekeren and Roelof van der Merwe chipped in with a wicket each.

In reply, Netherlands' top three adapted to the nature of the surface and their vital knocks led their side to a thriling five-wicket win, with three balls to spare. Opting to bat first, at the Simonds Stadium, Geelong, the Namibian inning didn't find the any kind of momentum. Courtesy of Jan Frylinck (43) and some contributions from the likes of Michael van Lingen, Stephan Baard, skipper Gerhard Erasmus and David Wiese's 5-ball 11 not out, they managed a paltry score of 121 for 6 in 20 overs. Max ODowd (35), Vikramjit Singh (39) and Bas de Leede's run-a-ball 30 not out ensured their side beat Namibia to move closer to the Super 12 round of the competition in Australia. Amalia's situation was called "terrible and worrisome"&nbsp;said Premier Rutte, who until recently was frequently spotted on a bike around The Hague.

Rick Evers, a Dutch reporter who specialises in royal affairs, remarked, "It's about an 18-year-old girl who can't have a student life because she's apparently the target of the Mocro-mafia."

The Mocro-mafia, so named because of their Moroccan origin, are criminal organisations with a focus on Amsterdam's emerging cocaine trade and the growing drug trade in the Netherlands.

Experts claim that the incident has increased worries that the Netherlands is becoming a "narco-state" after a high-profile string of convictions involving drug trafficking organisations, reports AFP.

Calling organized crime a "fundamental problem" Dutch minister of justice and protection Dilan Yesilgoz-Zegerius said that her government was "working hard day and night to ensure her (princess's) security."
