But I do want to address this as a larger problem because fatshaming needs to stop for EVERYONE and not just celebs. As a new mom, I want to be fit, healthy and energetic for my daughter. So I work out everyday, sometimes twice a day because for me…’Fitness’ is a priority and not ‘fitting into’ society’s standards regarding looks. Now in its 16th season, ‘Roadies’ kicked off its first series of auditions in the National Capital Region (NCR) as enthusiasts lined up to meet their favourite stars and try their luck on the adrenaline-charged show. Judges and gang leaders as they are called on the show -- actress Neha Dhupia, Nikhil Chinappa, former show winner Prince Narula, rapper Raftaar and former sportsman Sandeep Singh took the auditions. The show this year has a new theme called Roadies Real Heroes that promises to awaken the hero within through real-life stories of courage, honour and bravery. Joining a physically intensive TV show right after entering into motherhood, Neha Dhupia in a candid chat with WION opened up on balancing time between her daughter, Mehr and work. She spoke about what it means to be a woman, equation with husband Angad Bedi, things that keep her busy apart from mommy duties and the next time we will get to see her on the big screen. Travelling with her newborn in this chilly winter of Delhi, Neha proves that not only is she the boss lady on the ground when she’s on the set of Roadies but a boss mother. “It’s one of those sayings, ‘I am every woman’ -- I am the mother, the professional, the one who stays up with her (newborn) every night. I look after myself, have to manage my house, have to be the wife, have to be the homemaker, everything. It’s just not me, everybody does it,” she said as she spoke about balancing important things in life. While many would applaud her dedication to work even after having additional responsibilities of a newborn, for Neha it’s no big deal as she said that this is what means to be a woman. She explained, “The ones who actually want to, they go out there and do it. There are times like this morning when I was having my breakfast, getting my makeup done, putting my shoes on, replying to an email, feeding my child while somebody else was fixing my eyelashes. I remember I was doing six things at the same time. She said, “The mother who decides to sit at home, the mother who decides to go to work; nobody is a bad parent. It’s not easier, not to say that the one who is sitting at home has it easier but I can tell you that my plate is full and a large chunk of it is occupied by Mehr but whatever is left of me, I am working on some sort of reserve battery. “I used to have a problem with the boys earlier as they get to sleep an hour and a half extra because they don't have to do hair and makeup but now they get nine hours extra because they are not even feeding the child,” she added. Neha gave birth to Mehr in November 2018 after announcing her pregnancy over an Instagram post. The couple was then on a holiday at a fancy beachside location outside India. Neha said that he (Angad) is co-parenting with her but it’s different for him. She explained, “For the first 40 days, I didn’t go to the gym but now I get up and do that. He fills in for his daddy duties but there’s very little that he can do. At the end of the day, I have to feed her, nurse her and that is something nobody else can do apart from the mother.” She continued, “There are times when I just look at him and I’m like ‘can you somehow do this so I can sleep one night?’” and quickly added, “I feel that he shows immense patience, love and I wish you could meet him to know what a lovely, solid man he is. He makes for a rock solid husband and such a good father.” The actor couple got married in a hush-hush ceremony in New Delhi in a Gurudwara, unlike other celebs who announce dates, throw lavish parties and call the entire Bollywood to celebrate. To this she said, “It’s funny you said that because I was giving birth to Mehr and she was born at 11:25, and I still have an email at about 10:15 or 10:30 which I am sending to my editor saying ‘I’m not happy with this edit’ because I was pushing something out for my #NoFilterNeha on Monday. Mehr was born on Sunday.” Right after delivering the baby, Neha then responded back to the email at 12:30 saying ‘this is okay, the edit is good to go’ to which her chat group with fellow work team members exploded with questions like ‘are you for real?' asking her to take a bit easy on herself than she does. She said, “My heart is still bleeding because of that as the feature films that I like are very few and far in between. When you get an offer, you want to make sure you have the dates but it didn’t work out this time. Next time when I get something that is as good, I will work around it” and quickly added, “Earlier I used to say that the job better be worth my while to get me out of bed, now the job better be worth my while to take me away from Mehr.”

<p>Neha, 38, says though it is good to get back to work, she had to overcome the guilt of leaving her daughter at home.</p>

<p>"It feels great but initially you are struck only with guilt, the kind you have never known before. You constantly feel 'Oh my God what is my child doing?'&nbsp;</p>

<p>"When you are with your child you are like I must cope up with work, because I am a workaholic. The balance is extremely important."</p>

<p>The actor says it is important to move past the guilt.&nbsp;</p>

<p>"There are constant reminders you give yourself that just because you are going to work doesn't mean you love your child less. A mother who decides to be at home after giving birth is as beautiful a mother as the one who decides to work. I have had the luxury to take her with me wherever I go. While she may have control over him on the bed, she knows what her place in his household. Akhtar explains the humdrum of city life without too many dialogues, but thereby brilliantly explaining the stark class divide between the lead couple of her story.&nbsp;</p>

On a weekend getaway with her lover (Jaideep Ahlwat), Reena's blissful vacation is disrupted by her self-centered, control freak husband (Sanjay Kapoor) who also happens to her lover's best friend. And while the men skirt around the issue at hand, it is Reena, the bored housewife having an affair outside her marriage, who takes charge and gets her sweet, subtle revenge.&nbsp;<br />

Perhaps the most in-your-face story on lust is delivered by Karan Johar and predictably so. Johar's story is of new bride Megha(Kiara Advani in a refreshing act) who never finds any sexual satisfaction from her over-enthusiastic, naive husband Paras (played by the brilliant Vicky Kaushal). Paras is a man of five thrusts literally who never understands the concept of giving any kind of pleasure to his wife while making love. So Megha decides to take things in her own hand which ultimately has some hilarious consequences. Now, Johar always has had the ability to laugh at himself and here too uses an age-old&nbsp;popular 'Kabhi Khushi Kabhi Gham' theme song in the most convoluted situation- you will never see that song in the same way after watch 'Lust Stories'.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The actors in all of the four films are pitch perfect. Radhika Apte, as the confused, conflicted Kalindi is a scene stealer like always. Much like her student, you will be left exasperated and slightly amused by her antics. Manisha Koirala brings back nostalgia as&nbsp;she plays the ice -cold, calm Reena to perfection. Just hope we get to see more of her on the big screen from now on. Zoya Kahtar's leading lady, Bhumi Pednekar emotes through her eyes. She barely has two lines in the film, but with just through her expressions, she plays Sudha - the housemaid with momentary dreams in her eyes and ultimate realisation of her place in the social strata brilliantly.&nbsp;</p>

Kiara plays the unapologetic new bride Medha and looks her part,&nbsp;playing the woman who never really finds any kind of satisfaction from her over-enthusiastic husband. There is a certain glint of sarcasm in her eyes as she quietly observes her husband's buffoonery.&nbsp;<br />

Among the men, Jaideep Ahlawat and Vicky Kaushal stand out distinctly as the inept, unaware, weak men to their strong women in life. Vicky Kaushal is endearing as the fumbling, inadequate husband who never really gets his wife. It's amazing to see the actor portray such a different character from what he has played earlier. 2018 is clearly turning out to be Kaushal's year- and rightfully so.&nbsp;</p>

'Lust Stories': The film is a lot more than the four-letter word and thank god for that

<p>Kajol's next film, directed by Pradeep Sarkar, is slated to hit the theatres on September 14, the makers say.</p>

<p>The movie, tentatively titled 'Eela', also features this year's National Award for Best Actor winner Riddhi Sen, who will play Kajol's son and Neha Dhupia, who will essay the role of a drama instructor.</p>

Having invited only close family members and friends, the announcement of their wedding was made public only after they shared photos from the ceremony on their social media profiles.&nbsp;</p>

Star Screen Awards kickstarted the award season on Sunday night in Mumbai. The awards honoured the best in cinema in the year 2017. Vidya Balan’s Tumhari Sulu won big bagging three awards including one for the lead actress and one for its debutant director. Vidya Balan won the Best Actress (Popular) award for her portrayal of a spirited housewife who turns an RJ for a late-night show in Tumhari Sulu. Neha Dhupia, who played Vidya’s boss in the film, won the Best Supporting Actress award. The film’s director Suresh Triveni, won the Best Debut Director award. Star Screen Awards: Dangal, Vidya Balan, Irrfan Khan win top honours

<p>2017 has seen some incredible stories- stories that have highlighted the middle-class and its problems in the most endearing, hilarious ways. From <em>Bareilly Ki Barfi </em>to <em>Shubh Mangal Saavdhan</em> to the recent<em> Qarib Qarib Singlle</em>- all have had middle-class protagonists. While these films have been primarily love stories with middle-class values as a backdrop, it is Suresh Triveni&rsquo;s <em>Tumhari Sulu</em> that scores over with its story of an ordinary housewife with extraordinary dreams.</p>

<p>Sulochana Dubey or Sullu ( Vidya Balan) is a regular housewife grappling with everyday mundane life. Her achievements are nothing noteworthy yet she is quite proud of them and happily flaunts them. She has an encouraging husband Ashok (Manav Kaul) who indulges almost all her whims and is always on her team and a nearly teenage son who is mostly amused by the antics of his dramatic parents.</p>

<p>One call from a local FM channel declaring her as the winner of a contest lands Sulu at the radio channel&rsquo;s office to collect her reward. A chance encounter with her favourite RJ Anjali (Malishka) makes her meet the head of the channel, Mayra (Neha Dhupia ) and she manages to convince her that she can become the next RJ.</p>

<p>Naturally, Sulu is an instant hit with the listeners. Her late-night show caters to lonely hearts and Sulu in her husky, sexy voice helps them with problems related to the heart. She has a remedy for everyone, in her own unique style- be it a cocky cab driver in love with two sisters at the same time or the lonely widower who just wants to hum along with her- Sulu has the ability to connect with people across ages.</p>

<p>As her career soars, her personal life takes a dip as she is unable to juggle the two roles- that of a perfect housewife and another of the careerist woman- perfectly. Sulu&rsquo;s supportive husband soon starts to get annoyed with her erratic working hours as he himself struggles at his decade-long comfortable job. Sulu&rsquo;s son gets neglected at home and eventually gets caught in school selling adult CDs to classmates. And suddenly Sulu starts doubting herself and her ability as a homemaker and mother.</p>

<p><em>Tumhari Sulu</em>&rsquo;s high point is the simplistic story that resonates with one and all for its middle-class values and aspirations. The dreams are sometimes too big for our stature yet one never gives up easily. Sulu is a 12<sup>th</sup> fail, and is aware of her shortcomings even but yet has the zeal to attempt new things. Sulu is someone you already know&nbsp;in real life. She could be your next door neighbour or a relative or just like you- who wants to strive for something big and also balance her personal life while pursuing her dreams.</p>

<p>There are moments which will bring smiles to your faces because it is all too familiar. The car ac is not switched on too much to &lsquo;secretly&rsquo; save fuel, the husband &ndash;wife discuss numerous business options that they could start but never do, the nagging relatives always taunt the youngest in the family to do something worthwhile in life. All these elements make the film very real.</p>

<p>The film, though, takes copious liberty in terms of its narrative. No media head has so much free time to indulge an aspiring applicant to rehearse and give spot audition. Getting a job is difficult; getting an interview is even tougher. But Sulu&rsquo;s audition appears too easy. No one gets it so right on their first day on-air like they show in the film. Sulu has zero background in radio yet on her first day she appears like a pro.</p>

<p>While the first half is fun, breezy and real, the second half slowly gets melodramatic and unrealistic. I had major problems with the climax which was rather convoluted. But the glaring flaws can be ignored simply because of the pitch-perfect cast and its endearing performances.</p>

<p>Vidya Balan has time and again proven that if she is given a good script, she can shine and take the film forward on her own accord. Vidya&rsquo;s Sulu is endearing, innocent and a whole lot of fun. She makes the ordinary housewife appear special. As her husband Ashok, Manav Kaul too delivers a fine performance and matches in every scene with Vidya. They look good together and make for a very convincing married couple. Then there is supporting cast which includes Neha Dhupia, Malishka and Vijay Maurya who are perfect in their respective roles. The conversations flow freely and things look so real that you almost feel it is happening to you.</p>

<p>Above all <em>Tumhari Sulu</em> makes the ordinary middle-class look extraordinary. Sulu will remind you of your mother who has tirelessly worked at home and at work for years without any complaint. Sulu&rsquo;s problems will resonate with all working women who put in extra effort to strike a fine balance between home and work. And <em>Tumhari Sulu</em> will make you fall in love with Vidya Balan all over again. Because Vidya truly &lsquo;<em>sab kuch kar sakti hai</em>&rsquo;.</p>

From a Bengali professor to a cab driver to a loud Punjabi businessman to a possessive lover who abuses his wife in bed every night- Irrfan can play any role and make it his own.&nbsp;<br />
<br />
Therefore, when Tanuja Chandra cast Irrfan in a light-hearted love story of a middle-aged couple- one knew that she had an ace up her sleeve. <em>Qarib Qarib </em><em>Singlle</em> has the actor paired opposite Parvathy and together the actor&#39;s make the film enjoyable despite a weak script.&nbsp;<br />
<br />
Jaya (Parvathy) is an army widow who lives for her friends. She is always the one who will step up for her friends when they can&#39;t take their kids to the mall or babysit their cat. She has a good job, a supportive family but what she lacks is a man in her life. &nbsp;Stuck in her past, Jaya is a fresher in the romance department who easily gets scandalized at the new ideas of romance. While her friends and family ask her to find a man for herself, Jaya is comfortable being alone. During one sleepless night alone at home, Jaya decides to open an account on a dating site. She lies about her name and age but finds a match almost within minutes. She meets Yogi (Irrfan Khan) who is a poet of sorts the next day for a coffee date.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Yogi isn&#39;t a regular guy. He is rich (although it is never very clearly indicated the reason of his wealth) doesn&#39;t have a job as such and publishes his own books of poems. He is also unconventional and self-contained and believes his ex-girlfriends still pine for him. Jaya finds him strange in the beginning but on a whim agrees to go with him on a road-trip of sorts to meet his ex-girlfriends to find out whether they still have any feelings for him.&nbsp;<br />
<br />
They do meet these women, in some of the picturesque towns and cities of northern India but realize the importance of moving on from the past and holding on to what is present in front of them.<br />
<br />
To its advantage, the film has some exceptionally witty lines- most of which are delivered by Irrfan Khan. The man plays a character who is a little old school. Who dozes off when Jaya talks off the advantages of the Internet to him, who believes in paperbacks more than e-books. And Yogi is the exact opposite of Jaya. Jaya is sophisticated, he is not. She is calm and dignified, Yogi is too nonchalant and loud. Jaya is measured, Yogi fumbles and is overall loud. The writers create a Yin and Yan sort of situation and it translates well on the big screen at least in the first half where the characters are established.&nbsp;<br />
<br />
The problem occurs in the second half when writers continue to hammer into our heads the characteristics of the two leads. There is an excruciatingly long scene in the second half where Parvathy goes a tad overboard with her acting as she appears drunk on a few extra sleeping pills. The scene has Neha Dhupia and Irrfan Khan as well but Parvathy&#39;s act appears to naive and rather out of place.&nbsp;</p>

The actress, in the rest of the film, delivers a confident performance and makes Jaya very relatable. You almost smile at her when she sets out on her first date in years as she practices her smile and rehearses the lines she would say to Yogi. Or the time, she can&#39;t believe that she has agreed to meet someone so strange like Yogi as she sits on flights and trains- waiting for him to arrive.&nbsp;<br />
<br />
While the performances are top-notch, it is at the end overruled by the very illogical storyline and a boring second half. When the film begins, the screenplay is so well written that you can almost relate to what Jaya is going through. But as the film progresses, the writers take too much liberty with the story- making the film a usual frothy love-story. Which is why <em>Qarib Qarib </em><em>Singlle</em> falls short of being called a good film. It just remains very average.&nbsp; it has some genuinely funny moments, a good message and also creates a perfect ambiance for an old-school romance but a poor script overrules these aspects.</p>

<p>A word for the film&#39;s cinematographer Eeshit Narain who captures Rishikesh captivatingly, making the hilly town look breathtaking.&nbsp;<br />
<br />
<em>Qarib Qarib </em><em>Singlle</em> is a good attempt at telling a story of people in the 30s- an age group that is widely ignored in our films. It has two genuinely good actors who deliver mature performances but the story takes too many liberties and makes the overall film look a bit illogical.&nbsp;</p>

There is an excruciatingly long scene in the second half where Parvathy goes a tad overboard with her acting as she appears drunk on a few extra sleeping pills. The scene has Neha Dhupia and Irrfan Khan as well but Parvathy's act appears to naive and rather out of place. The actress, in the rest of the film, delivers a confident performance and makes Jaya very relatable. You almost smile at her when she sets out on her first date in years as she practices her smile and rehearses the lines she would say to Yogi. Or the time, she can't believe that she has agreed to meet someone so strange like Yogi as she sits on flights and trains- waiting for him to arrive. While the performances are top-notch, it is at the end overruled by the very illogical storyline and a boring second half. When the film begins, the screenplay is so well written that you can almost relate to what Jaya is going through. But as the film progresses, the writers take too much liberty with the story- making the film a usual frothy love-story. Which is why Qarib Qarib Singlle falls short of being called a good film. It just remains very average. it has some genuinely funny moments, a good message and also creates a perfect ambiance for an old-school romance but a poor script overrules these aspects. A word for the film's cinematographer Eeshit Narain who captures Rishikesh captivatingly, making the hilly town look breathtaking. Qarib Qarib Singlle is a good attempt at telling a story of people in the 30s- an age group that is widely ignored in our films. It has two genuinely good actors who deliver mature performances but the story takes too many liberties and makes the overall film look a bit illogical. Ratings: 2.5/5

Featuring Vidya Balan, Manav Kaul and Neha Dhupia- the film will have the actor playing himself in one scene.<br />
