Indian cities are 149% more congested than other Asian cities, said Uber commissioned BCG report on Wednesday.

According to the Boston Consulting Group (BCG) survey, up to 89% of people plan to buy a new car in the next five years.

"However, over 79% would refrain from buying a car if ride sharing matches car ownership for affordability and convenience," said the report.

The 40-page report titled 'Unlocking Cities: The impact of ridesharing across India' was commissioned to better understand the benefits and potential of ridesharing in Delhi, Kolkata, Mumbai and Bangalore.

The report was launched in the presence of Barney Harford, Uber's Global COO Amit Jain, President, Uber India and South Asia Suresh Subudhi, Partner, BCG & Ann Lavin, Senior Director, Public Policy & Government Relations, Uber APAC.

"For over 9 years now, Uber has been a pioneer in ridesharing, globally. Closer home, we continue to be at the forefront when it comes to unlocking the true potential of ridesharing for India. Through this study, we are hoping to draw the attention of administrators and urban planners on how shared cars and mobility can be part of the solution vs. individual car ownership," said Amit Jain.

"In the coming months, we will introduce several India first innovations that will help bring the benefits of ridesharing to many more Indians and enable us to work with the Government towards a common goal: reduce private car ownership and expand access to public transit systems. We are delighted that India has embraced shared mobility in a big way -- but we still have a long way to go. Together with the Government, we aim to continue playing a key role in improving lives and cities," added Jain.

Suresh Subudhi said, "Cost of congestion is alarmingly high across Indian cities. We need to creatively think about increasing public transport usage and network while managing private transport growth. On-demand ride sharing is a practical way to reduce no of private vehicles on the road and reduce congestion. It is important to encourage this proactively."

The study found that rideshare vehicle delivers on average 1.4-3.3 times more passenger-kilometres compared to private vehicles.

All Kohli could do is to watch his teammate playing reckless shots and giving away their wickets.&nbsp

After his unbeaten 92-run knock, Kohli became the highest run grosser of all times in IPL but surely have been a sad man last night, and clueless too.&nbsp

For some mysterious and inexplicable reasons, sometimes someone always remains eluded by a specific milestone despite best of efforts.&nbsp

Bangalore and IPL remain one such partnership.

Despite having a formidable side over the past decade and brilliant performances in patches, Bangalore remains one of the least achievers in IPL.&nbsp

They have played in final thrice but lost out every time.

Bangalore is to IPL what England is to the World Cup Cricket and Netherlands is to the FIFA World Cup.&nbsp

England has played in ICC Cricket World Cup finals three times but lost every time.

Similarly, despite having a formidable side and having a streak of world-class players in&nbspthe lineup, Netherlands could never win FIFA World Cup, which actually they deserved.&nbsp

In 1974, Netherlands played outstanding Football right from the word go and looked invincible but lost in the final.

Bangalore has the similar tale at the IPL. In few editions like in 2008 and 2017, they simply imploded despite having a strong side. In few they were outstanding but just couldn't&nbspcross the last hurdle.&nbsp

In 2016, their run was somewhat reminiscent of Netherland's run in 1974 World Cup. Bangalore in 2016 was a side to beat after first 2-3 weeks. Virat Kohli, AB de Villiers and Gayle was decimating each and every bowling attack.&nbsp

Kohli scored four centuries in a single edition of IPL in 2016. In final, they lost out in a close match to Hyderabad. As mentioned above, next year in 2017, they had a bad start and after few losses, they seemed to have given up and ended last in the table.

The one thing which must be at the top of to-do-list of Virat Kohli is surely to secure one IPL crown for his franchise. But Kohli must be wondering that how to crack this code and break this jinx. In this edition, they have already lost 3 out of 4 matches so far.

With Quinton de Kock, AB de Villiers, Brendon McCullum in the ranks along with Kohli, this looks like a world beater combination.&nbsp

Bangalore, however, is struggling in bowling. They are not able to contain runs in the death over.&nbsp

This is one area, which is required to be fixed quickly. Kohli needs to also fix the correct batting line-up and strategy needs to be redrawn. The batting line up is not able to apply itself, which they should,&nbspconsidering its stature.

But at the top of it, legacy is not leaving Virat Kohli-led team. As happened in the past, they continue to underperform in IPL for some unfathomable reasons.&nbsp

Though is still early, but if Kohli wants to embrace this eluded IPL title this year, he has to fix issues quickly. And of course, he needs to pray as well for little better luck for his side.&nbsp

Bangalore needs to get rid of its typical and consistent knack of underperforming in IPL.&nbsp

After all,&nbspBangalore and Kohli deserve at least one IPL title.

Opinion: Curious case of Bangalore and IPL

India stood up Sunday to protest the recent Unnao and Kathua gang rapes.

Protests were held in Mumbai, Delhi, Bengaluru, Aligarh, Bhopal, and Goa and Kerala.

The Mumbai protest began at Bandra's Carter Road.

Ekta Kapoor had earlier tweeted: "Everyone should come. Whatever religion, gender or belief you belong to. For humanity, for justice..."

The Delhi protest is being held at Parliament Street where, news reports said, Swati Maliwal, the chief of the Delhi Women's Commission, is holding a hunger strike.

The Kathua and Unnao gang rapes have left the nation in shock.

In the first attack, an eight-year-old girl was kept captive in a temple in Kathua, Jammu. The child was sedated and gang-raped repeatedly.

The alleged mastermind was a retired revenue official and policemen were allegedly involved in the crime.

The Unnao gang rape only came to light when the girl and her family tried to immolate themselves outside the residence of the Uttar Pradesh chief minister.

The girl said she had been raped by the BJP MLA from Unnao Kuldeep Singh Sengar and his associates in May 2017 but had got no justice.

The girl's father died a few days later. He was reportedly beaten by Sengar's brother in front of the police who allegedly did nothing because of the MLA's clout.

Sengar's brother has been arrested. Sengar himself was finally arrested only after the CBI took over the case.

India stands up to protest against Kathua, Unnao gang rapes

Mumbai surely had their worst beginning to their defending campaign as they got defeated thrice in a row in the ongoing in Indian Premier League 2018.

Rohit Sharma’s 'blue paltan' will look to get the first point of the season when they face beleaguered Bangalore at the Wankhede Stadium today.&nbsp

Both the games played at the Wankhede so far have gone down to the wire and on both occasions, Mumbai have had their chances to register a victory but failed to do so.

Meanwhile, Virat Kohli-led Bangalore is having a roller coaster ride in the tournament with two defeats punctuated by a win.&nbsp

Both teams will honestly look to improve their run in this tournament for the top slots.&nbsp

Currently, Bangalore is at No. 6 while MI are languishing at the bottom of the table.

If seen their previous records, both the teams have faced each other 21 times in the IPL since 2008, with MI winning 13 as against RCB’s 8.

Mumbai have won the last four encounters played in 2016 and 2017.

The Kohli-led side started their season on the losing note to Kolkata but managed to register a convincing victory over Ashwin-led Punjab at home.

However, they again lost a high-scoring game to Rajasthan at home on Sunday but had put up a breathtaking performance.

The team's bowlers, especially Umesh Yadav broke the back of Punjab with a three-wicket burst in one over.&nbsp

However, he went for plenty against the Rajasthan who set up the highest total so far of the season, 217.

Meanwhile, Mumbai posses&nbspa strong batting line up that threatened to score over 200 in their previous game before Delhi restricted them below that threshold.

And therefore, Virat Kohli needs to set right their bowling woes.

Mumbai's batting failed to rocket off in the first two games. Only two players including Suryakumar Yadav and Ishan Kishan have displayed consistent performance to help Mumbai set decent targets in all the three games.&nbsp

The move to promote Suryakumar has been a success but their best batsman, skipper Rohit, is yet to make a big contribution with the bat.

The Pandya brothers Hardik and Krunal along with giant West Indian Kieron Pollard too have not made big impacts in the first three games.

So overall, Kohli's side will be tough to defeat despite Mumbai playing at their home ground but if past results are considered then it Mumbai may open there this year's account.&nbsp

Playing XI (TBC):

Mumbai:&nbspSuryakumar Yadav, Evin Lewis, Rohit Sharma, Ishan Kishan, Hardik Pandya, Kieron Pollard, Krunal Pandya, Mitchell McClenaghan, Mayank Markande, Jasprit Bumrah, Mustafizur Rahma

Bangalore:&nbspQuinton de Kock, Parthiv Patel, Virat Kohli, AB de Villiers, Mandeep Singh, Colin de Grandhomme, Washington Sundar, Chris Woakes, Umesh Yadav, Kulwant Khejroliya, Yuzvendra Chahal

Sachin acted as a catalyst to revive Indian cricket and brought crowds to stadiums, put smiles to faces and gathered accolades across the globe. He brought emotional quotient into the game.

A humble gentleman who never responded to sledging and concentrated only on playing started playing gully cricket in his childhood and now is back there again.

In the ongoing Indian Premier League, he is the mentor of Mumbai team, he also used to play for the same team. In 78 matches, Sachin has scored 2,334 runs, including a century and 13 fifties for Mumbai.

Watch: Sachin Tendulkar's comeback in 'gully cricket'

Mumbai have lost its previous three clashes and are currently placed at the bottom of Indian Premier League points table. In the last clash, which was on Saturday, Mumbai scored 194 runs but team Delhi defeated the Rohit Sharma-led team and chased down the total, all hail to England's batsman Jason Roy, his 91 runs knock was the sole reason for Delhi's victory over Mumbai.

The next match of Mumbai will be on Tuesday against Bangalore and Mumbai's skipper Rohit Sharm got enough time to think what went wrong in the previous games.

In a recent media interaction, Mumbai's all-rounder Kieron Pollard looked around media for help during the crisis situation of the team.

"Three games in a row, we have lost in the last over. If you guys have any idea to tell us how to get over the line, if it happens again, you guys obviously know a lot of cricket, so, give us an idea of what to do," asked the Windies cricketer.

He also mentioned that the team is currently discussing how to go about the further remaining games, "We have had conversations going. We had talks at different levels where we need to go forward and actually try and finish off those games."

"For me, I'm not bothered. As any cricketer, if you do not perform, you're dropped. You look at these three games. One game I didn't bat. The second game, we were in a difficult position. And the third game? These things happen.

"I'm always hungry to perform. For any individual, (for) any cricketer performance is important. For me, what gets me going against any team are big players. Big players mean big games. These are the times you want to be counted,"

He praised powerful batting of Chris Gayle against Chennai on Sunday when King Gayle played at a strike rate of 190.91 and scored 63 runs off just 33 balls.

He said, "When you talk about Chris Gayle, you talk about the guy with most T20 runs, the best record, the most sixes, the most dominant force in T20 cricket."

He also said, "As a fellow West Indian, it is disappointing that he didn't fetch a buyer in the first or second round. But he eventually got a buyer."

Pollard seeks advice from media to outdo Mumbai's current form

Defending champions Mumbai failed for the third time to open their winning account in the eleventh edition of the Indian Premier League as they lost to Delhi by seven wickets.&nbsp

Meanwhile, the Delhi boys chased down a 195-run target at Wankhede to get off the mark in this year's IPL edition.&nbsp

But, it was Jason Roy's unbeaten 91 runs that helped Delhi defeat Rohit-led Sharma side. &nbsp

Roy smashed six sixes and six fours in his 52-ball innings.&nbsp

Wicketkeeper-batsman Rishabh Pant also played a stunning inning of 47 runs off just 25 balls to get his side taste their first victory.&nbsp

Winless Mumbai on Saturday set a difficult target of 195 runs for opponents Delhi to cinch their maiden match in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2018.&nbsp

Openers Suryakumar Yadav and Evin Lewis gave Mumbai a superb start as the two scored 56 and 48 runs off 32 and 28 balls respectively.

Wicketkeeper-batsman Ishan Kishan continued the pace after Lewis lost his wicket and smashed a 23-ball 44 runs.

Skipper Rohit Sharma, who did not open today, again failed to contribute and lost his wicket after making just 18 runs.

Meanwhile, Delhi bowlers performed late, failing to restrict the opponents to a low score.&nbsp

Rahul Tewatia dismissed both the openers, breaking the massive partnership that almost took the match away from Delhi.&nbsp

Later, Delhi came back more strongly, picking up five wickets for 28 runs in the last five overs

Gautam Gambhir won the toss and has opted to field first against Mumbai at the Wankhede Stadium on April 14.

"We'll bowl. Wicket's not going to change. We haven't spoken too much about the last game. Result didn't go in our favour, so we don't want to discuss and complicate things," said Gambhir after winning the toss.

Gautam Gambhir has made two changes, Jason Roy for Colin Munro and Dan Christian for Chris Morris, on the other hand, Mumbai also has replaced Ben Cutting with Akila Dananjaya and Hardik Pandya in place of Pradeep Sangwan.

Hardik Pandya did not play in the previous game due to a sore back but it seems he is fit and fine and will boost the batting and cowling departments.

Skipper Rohit Sharma, who did not open today, again failed to contribute and lost his wicket after making just 18 runs. Meanwhile, Delhi bowlers performed late, failing to restrict the opponents to a low score. Rahul Tewatia dismissed both the openers, breaking the massive partnership that almost took the match away from Delhi. Later, Delhi came back more strongly, picking up five wickets for 28 runs in the last five overs Gautam Gambhir won the toss and has opted to field first against Mumbai at the Wankhede Stadium on April 14.

IPL 2018: Mumbai sets 195 runs target for Gambhir-led Delhi

Dinesh Karthik-led Kolkata will face Hyderabad team in the second Saturday clash at Eden Gardens stadium on April 14.

Hyderabad team is high on spirit as they have won their previous two clashes and currently sitting atop of Indian Premier League points table following a better Net Run Rate (NRR).

Kolkata have won one match out of two in the ongoing IPL tournament. As a team, Kolkata boys believe in their capabilities to pull off match-winning knocks but they lack intent.

In the previous clash, Kolkata had displayed a very poor fielding show as they dropped three crucial catches. The batting is good to some extent, Andre Russell, Sunil Narine, Nitish Rana, and skipper Dinesh Karthik are currently in-form.

In presence of spin star Kuldeep Yadav and Piyush Chawla and pacers like Mitchell Johnson, Andre Russell and Vinay Kumar the bowling department of Kolkata is settled.

Probable XI of Kolkata:

Chris Lynn, Sunil Narine, Robin Uthappa, Nitish Rana, Dinesh Karthik (c & wk), Rinku Singh, Andre Russell, Mitchell Johnson, Piyush Chawla, Vinay Kumar, Kuldeep Yadav

On the other hand, Hyderabad team will look forward to winning the match to solidify its positions at number one of IPL points table. Though, it seems a bit difficult because it appears that the team is dependent on Shikhar Dhawan as his performance in the last match was splendid.

Hyderabad's batting line-up is balanced Shakib Al Hasan, Yusuf Pathan and Deepak Hooda will power the middle batting order.

On the other hand, Manish Pandey yet to prove his Rs 11 cr worth.

Team's core strength is the bowling department and it is going to be difficult for Dinesh Karthik and his team to ease past it easily.

IPL 2018: Gautam Gambhir wins toss, opts to bowl against Mumbai

Delhi boy Gautam Gambhir and Mumbaikar Rohit Sharma are ready to set up the first clash on Saturday at Wankhede Stadium to open their account in the ongoing IPL tournament as both the teams have lost their previous clashes and will be looking forward to winning the match.

Delhi was outplayed in the first match which was against Punjab and in the next rain-hit match they were slightly unfortunate as Rajasthan won by DLS method. Delhi failed to score revised target of 75 runs off 6 overs.

The good news for Delhi is that they have Glenn Maxwell back and it is expected that he will boost the batting strength of the team.

Delhi is dependent on its massive pace strength but in the absence of spinners, the team might suffer as they have a sole spinner in the form of Rahul Tewatia, though his bowling has been of a higher standard in the previous matches.

Delhi's Probable XI:

Gautam Gambhir, Colin Munro, Shreyas Iyer, Rishabh Pant, Glenn Maxwell, Vijay Shankar, Chris Morris, Rahul Tewatia, Mohammed Shami, Shahbaz Nadeem, Trent Boult

On the other hand, Rohit Sharma-led Mumbai team had taken the previous matches to the last overs but however, they could not win from there. As we all know that points do matter a lot in the initial stage of the tournament to avoid the unnecessary pressure of the tournament.

Mumbai's Probable XI:

Evin Lewis, Rohit Sharma, Ishan Kishan, Suryakumar Yadav, Hardik Pandya, Krunal Pandya, Kieron Pollard, Mitchell McClenaghan, Mayank Markande, Jasprit Bumrah, Mustafizur Rahman

The bowling department has been the core strength but the batting department does lack an intent.

Their star player, Hardik Pandya did not play in the previous game due to a sore back but he is recovering well and is expected to return in today's match.

Though, both the teams lost their previous clash but still, the winning probability is more towards Delhi.

IPL 2018: Hyderabad beat Mumbai by 1 wicket in last-ball thriller

Hyderabad and Mumbai had contrasting starts to their IPL 2018 campaigns this year.&nbsp

While SRH cruised to a nine-wicket victory against Rajasthan, Mumbai lost its opening match to Chennai as the franchise pulled off a grand heist to hand a heart-breaking one-wicket loss.

Hyderabad ticked all the right boxes in their previous match. Their ground fielding was exceptional. Their bowlers came together in an effective amalgam to restrict Rajasthan at a low score.&nbsp

Hyderabad's Siddharth Kaul and Shakib Al Hasan led the way with figures of 2 for 17 and 2 for 23 respectively. &nbsp

Batsman Shikhar Dhawan blazed through to an unbeaten half-century to take them over the line with skipper Kane Williamson.&nbspThe two had put up a 121 runs partnership to give Hyderabad its first win in the eleventh edition of the cash-rich tournament.&nbsp

On the other hand, Mumbai didn't have an ideal start with their openers Rohit Sharma and Evin Lewis struggling to make runs.&nbsp

Their middle order batsmen Ishan Kishan (40) and Suryakumar Yadav (43) stood up and saved the team from drowning.&nbsp

But it was Krunal Pandya's 22-ball 41 that really propelled them to 165 that brought them back into the game.&nbsp

Mumbai were even ahead in the contest reducing CSK to 118 for 8 at one stage with debutant Mayank Markande picking up three wickets, along with Hardik Pandya, to put the hosts in the driver's seat.

But it was Dwayne Bravo's knock that took the match away from Chennai and it would not be wrong to say that their bowlers failed to find the good length.

Their bowlers and batmen Dhawan and Williamson&nbsphave to display the same energy in order to build pressure on defending champions Mumbai. IPL 2018: MS Dhoni wins toss, elects to bowl against Mumbai

Minutes ahead of the start of Indian Premier League (IPL) 2018 opener, the two teams, Mumbai and Chennai, have been dealt with a huge blow.

Yellow Brigade's Faf du Plessis and blue jersey's Pat Cummins will miss the first match due to injury and exertion respectively.

“Faf won’t play&nbsptomorrow. He’s nursing a couple of injuries he’s had throughout the summer. We think that its in his and our best interest to give him a&nbsplittle bit of time to get that right. His finger as well. So, as I say, its&nbsplittle beaten from that series which was tough for them,” Fleming said.

While Plessis was expected to be Chennai's dependent player in the opener, Cummins was Mumbai's card to restrict opponents to a low score.

Plessis will miss today's match due to an injured finger sustained after a blow from Pat Cummins during the recently concluded Wanderers Test.&nbsp

While Cummins is still recovering after all his Ashes and South African exertions.

Two big names are missing from either team, but there's no shortage of talent that will be on show.
