Bangladesh has reversed the hilsa fish export ban and has approved the export of 3000 tonnes of hilsa fish to India ahead of&nbsp;the occasion of Durga Puja, Dhaka's commerce ministry announced in a statement on Saturday (Sep 21), as reported by Bangladesh-based newspaper The Daily Star.&nbsp;

The applicants have been advised to contact the relevant wing of the ministry to obtain export permissions, the statement read.&nbsp;

“Against the backdrop of appeals by the exporters, approval has been given to export 3,000 tonnes of hilsa fish (to India), fulfilling the specific conditions on the occasion of the upcoming Durga Puja,” the commerce ministry said in a statement.

Earlier, the Bangladesh interim government led by Muhammad Yunus, decided to go against exporting hilsa to India this year to boost domestic supply.&nbsp;

During the period of former Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, the export of hilsa was allowed to India between September and October every year as a goodwill gesture.&nbsp;

India’s Fish Importers Association, earlier this month, urged Bangladesh Foreign Affairs Adviser Touhid Hossain to allow the export of hilsa to India during Durga Puja, amid uncertainty over the shipments of the fish this year following unrest and change of government in the country.

Chowdhury said that a total of 32,666 puja mandaps will be set up across the country.&nbsp;

Of these mandaps, 157 will be in Dhaka South City, and 88 in North City Corporations, according to local newspaper Dhaka Tribune.&nbsp;

This comes weeks after attacks on the minority Hindu community in Bangladesh subsequent to student protests against quotas&nbsp;in education and jobs for descendants of Bangladesh's freedom fighters. This also led to the resignation of then Bangladesh PM Sheikh Hasina.&nbsp;

In a major concern for India’s national security, the caretaker government of Bangladesh on Monday (Aug 26) released the chief of an al-Qaeda-affiliated terrorist outfit. Jashimuddin Rahmani, the chief of the Ansarullah Bangla Team (ABT), was released on parole on Monday, reported local media. He was jailed for the murder of a blogger back in 2013.

His ABT was outlawed in Bangladesh in 2015 under the regime of now-ousted Prime Minister&nbsp;Sheikh Hasina. The radical outfit re-emerged as Ansar al-Islam in 2017 but was again banned by the Hasina government.

He was freed from the Kashimpur High-Security Central Jail in Gazipur.

The ABT group has long been trying to establish its terror network in India and its operatives have been arrested by Indian armed&nbsp;forces in the past. Police in the northeastern Indian state of Assam detained two ABT terrorists, namely&nbsp;Bahar Mia and Rarely Mia, from the Guwahati railway station in May earlier this year.&nbsp;

ABT is directly linked to al-Qaeda in the Indian Subcontinent (AQIS) group, which is banned in India.

ABT has reportedly joined forces with Pakistan-based outlets to carry out terror attacks in northeast India.&nbsp;Pakistan's&nbsp;Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) had even collaborated with ABT in 2022 to set up a terror launch pad to target sites in India, as per media reports.

“Banks were robbed with full political patronisation. And the State coffer was plundered by abusing power,” Yunus said, adding that they will also make sincere efforts to promote national reconciliation.

"In their efforts to stay in power, Sheikh Hasina's dictatorship destroyed every institution of the country. The judiciary was broken. Democratic rights were suppressed through a brutal decade-and-a-half long crackdown," United News of Bangladesh quoted Yunus as saying through his Press Secretary Shafiqul Alam.

Yunus also briefed diplomats stationed in Dhaka for the first time since the interim government's inception.

Yunus said he took over a country that was in many ways a complete mess. He&nbsp;added that the top priority of the interim government would be to bring the law and order situation under control.

"We will be close to normalcy within a short period, with the unwavering support of our people and patriotic armed forces," Yunus said.

He sought the international community’s support to rebuild Bangladesh.

On the Rohingya issue, he said the interim government will continue to support the million-plus Rohingya people sheltered in Bangladesh.

"We need sustained efforts of the international community for Rohingya humanitarian operations and their eventual repatriation to their homeland, Myanmar, with safety, dignity and full rights," Yunus said.

Bangladesh's Muhammad Yunus govt expands as four new advisors join interim administration

The Chief of Bangladesh's interim government, Muhammad Yunus, will be attending the third Voice of the Global South Summit to be hosted by India on Saturday (Aug 17). The summit will take place virtually and the opening and closing session will be chaired by Indian Prime Minister Narendra&nbsp;Modi. In the last two&nbsp;summits&nbsp;that took place last year, over 100 countries participated. During this year's summit, at the leadership level, leaders from Southeast Asia, South Asia, Central Asia, West Asia, South America, Central America, Africa, and&nbsp;the Pacific will be present.

Several Hindu temples, households and businesses were reportedly targeted by radical mobs following the ouster of former PM Sheikh Hasina of Bangladesh. At least two Hindu leaders affiliated with Hasina's party were also murdered by rioters.

"...that's the way it works," warning the interim government that public support is finite and they will encounter many tough choices in the future. Yunus, praising the students for their efforts said, "There is no doubt... because of the student-led revolution the whole government collapsed." "I said (to the students), 'I respect you... I admire you. What you have done is absolutely unparalleled... and because you ordered me to do this (to take charge of the interim administration) I accept...'," he added. Two student activists, Nahid Islam and Asif Mahmud, are members of a 16-person advisory council that took their oaths alongside Yunus. The 84-year-old, who received the Nobel Peace Prize in 2006 for his efforts in microfinance and establishing the Grameen Bank for community development, emphasised that the recent resignations of top public figures, such as the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court and the head of Bangladesh's central bank, were "conduct legally."
