<p>A day after India scripted history by administering one billion COVID-19 doses in the country, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday said that it was a “beginning of a new chapter of a new India.”</p>

<p>In a televised address, Prime Minister Modi said that economic growth was getting a boost from rising vaccinations across the country and urged citizens to purchase locally manufactured products over the upcoming festive season.</p>

<p>“There was a time when we would hear ‘Made in this nation’, ‘Made in that country’, but now all Indians understand the significance of ‘Made in India’,” Modi said.</p>

<p>“Urge all Indians to support Indian producers by purchasing ‘Made in India’ items and to advocate for ‘Vocal for Local’.”</p>

<p>Modi also called for vigilance against COVID-19 and recommended wearing masks during festivals.</p>

<p>The Prime Minister said that India’s vaccination programme was “science-born, science-driven and science-based”.</p>

<p>“Yesterday, Oct 21, India achieved the difficult but extraordinary target of one billion, COVID-19 vaccine doses. This success is the success of India, success of every citizen,” he said.</p>

<p>The country, he said, had only one mantra —that if the disease does not discriminate, then there cannot be any discrimination in the vaccination.</p>

<p>He pointed towards apprehensions from several quarters that it would be very difficult to fight this epidemic in a democracy like India.</p>

<p>“It was also being said for India, for the people of India that how will so much restraint, how so much discipline work here? But for us, democracy means everyone`s cooperation,” he said</p>

<p>Modi said leaders from across the world congratulated India on crossing the milestone of 100 crore vaccinations, terming it a huge and extraordinary accomplishment.</p>

<p>“Today many people are comparing India’s vaccination programme with other countries of the world,” he said.</p>

<p>He further said that the speed with which India crossed the 100-crore mark is also being appreciated but we often forget that from where we have started this.</p>

<p>Meanwhile, more than 1.59 billion vaccine doses have been administered so far to the eligible beneficiaries, according to India’s health ministry.</p>

<p>Vinay Pratap Singh Chandrawat of India won gold in the Junior Men's Double Trap with a score of 120, while teammate Sehajpreet Singh secured silver with a score of 114.</p>

<p>Manvi Soni won gold with a score of 105, Yshaya Contractor took silver with a score of 90, and Hitasha won bronze with a score of 76 in the women's event.</p>

<p>According to the Medal Standing table, Indian athletes comfortably took first place, winning 40 medals, 16 of which were gold. Athletes from the United States came in second with a total of 21 medals, seven of which were gold. The Italian team is in third place with ten medals, three of which are gold. Athletes from 16 countries won medals in total.</p>

<p>“Intensive research on these aspects is necessary continuously. When science, government and society work together, it gets even better results. This nexus of farmers and scientists will further strengthen the nation to face new challenges,” PM Modi said while addressing the nation via video conferencing.</p>

<p>The prime minister appeared to be referring to a report of independent scrutiny by leading US law firm WilmerHale which showed that China in 2017 manipulated its data to improve its ranking in the Ease of Doing Business index.</p>

<p>The UN’s health agency, World Health Organization, was also criticised for mishandling the COVID-19 outbreak --which first surfaced in China in December 2019-- due to Chinese interference..</p>

<p>“I represent a country which is proud to be known as the mother of democracy, that goes by thousand of years. On August 15, India entered its 75th year. Our diversity is the identity of a strong democracy,” he said.</p>

<p>“The strength of our democracy is demonstrated by the fact that a boy who used to assist his father at a tea-stall at a railway station is addressing the UN today for the fourth time as the Prime Minister,” he added.</p>

<p>“Yes, democracy can deliver. Yes, democracy has delivered. Today is the birth anniversary of Pandit Deen Dayal Upadhyaya, the proponent of 'Ekatma Manav Darshan', meaning integral humanism or the development journey taken together, the expansion from self to universe,” he said.</p>

<p>Stressing that the development should be inclusive, PM Modi said India is moving on the path of equitable development that seeks to nurture every citizen, irrespective of his social and economic standing.</p>

<p>“It is with the principle of ‘antyodaya’ — where no one is left behind&nbsp;— in mind that India today is moving forward on the path of integrated equitable development. Our priority is that development should be all-inclusive, all-pervasive, universal and one that nurtures all. Today, over 360 million people who earlier could not even imagine this could be possible now have insurance coverage as security, by giving over 500 million free health treatment in hospitals, India has given them access to quality health services,” he said.</p>

<p>“When India grows, the world grows. When India reforms, the world transforms,” he asserted.</p>

<p>He also pointed out that how innovation in science and technology is helping India to provide greater services to its people.</p>

<p>“Today, we are using drones to map over 600,000&nbsp;villages, we are giving people their digital records of their home and land. These digital records will not only reduce property disputes but also will increase access to credit and bank loans,” Modi added.</p>

<p>“The science and tech-based innovations taking place in India can make a big contribution to the world. the scalability of our tech and their cost-effectiveness are unparalleled,” he said.</p>

<p>Modi also spoke of India’s commitment to tackle climate change.</p>

<p>“Today India is moving forward with great speed towards its target of 450 Gigawatts of renewable energy. You will be happy to see the advances made by India to tackle climate change,” he said, adding, “we are in the process of building the world’s largest green hydrogen hub.”</p>
