It's a wrap: As PM Modi's week-long US visit ends, here's what stole the limelight

Prime Minister Narendra Modi's action-packed US visit came to an end on Friday after his UNGA address and bilateral engagements with the leaders of the neighbouring nations. 

Here's taking a quick look at the highlights of the Prime Minister's week-long US visit.

'Howdy, Modi!' event

The event attracted nearly 50,000 Indian-Americans. Donald Trump attended along with 60 Congressmen. Trump, during the event, stated that India and the US stand proudly in defence of liberty and "we are committed to protecting innocent civilians from the threat of radical Islamic terrorism."


UN Climate action summit

PM Modi was the fourth leader to speak at the Climate Summit. India Showcased its commitment to tackling climate change. PM Modi called for a global movement to bring about change saying "time for talk is over, the world needs to act now".

"What is needed is a comprehensive approach that covers education, lifestyle, development strategy. We need global people's movement to bring about change," the Indian prime minister told the UN climate change summit.

"We believe that an ounce of practice is worth more than a ton of preaching," PM Modi asserted.

PM Modi was honoured by the Gates Foundation Global Goalkeeper Award for 'Swachh Bharat Mission'. 

After being bestowed with the Global Goalkeeper Award for 'Swachh Bharat Abhiyaan' on Tuesday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said that the honour does not belong to him but to the crores of Indians who made the initiative a part of their daily lives.

The award was presented by the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation at a ceremony on the sidelines of the 74th UN General Assembly session in New York.


Global Business Forum

PM Modi showcased India's roadmap to becoming a $5 trillion economy. The event was attended by hundreds of CEOs and heads of states. 

He held a roundtable with 42 CEOs of top global companies. 


Modi-Trump bilateral meeting

In the third US-India bilateral meeting between India and the US this year on the sidelines of UNGA, US President Donald Trump and Prime Minister set a trade target of $60 billion.

Describing Modi as the ''Elvis of India'', referring to famous American singer and actor, the US President praised Modi for giving a ''loud and clear'' message to Pakistan during the ''Howdy, Modi!'' event. 

Trump hinted at potential trade deal during the bilateral. He called PM Modi, 'Father of India'


Modi-Rouhani bilateral meeting

Talks were held on India's energy interest in Iran. India called for better cooperation for stability in the Gulf. The operationalisation of Chabahar Port was mentioned during the bilateral between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Iranian President Hassan Rouhani on Thursday. 


Gift to U.N.

PM Modi inaugurated the Gandhi Solar Park at the U.N. headquarters. 


Mega investment pitch

PM Modi chaired a meeting with top US CEOs in New York. The meeting focused on bolstering India-US trade ties. The prime minister held separate meetings with CEOs of various companies including Boeing Defence, Shell, Bank of America, CocaCola on Wednesday on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly session in New York.
