The invitation was presented by Jay Shah, Chairman of the International Cricket Council (ICC), during the Delhi leg of Messi’s tour. Shah personally invited Messi to witness India take on the USA in their first World Cup fixture on February 7, 2026, at Mumbai’s iconic Wankhede Stadium.

Lionel Messi arrived at Mumbai's Wankhede Stadium during his GOAT India tour. Several Bollywood celebrities, including Kareena Kapoor, Ajay Devgn and Tiger Shroff, among others, greeted him.

The GOAT tour will move to Mumbai on Sunday (Dec 14), where Messi will again play a charity match and later participate in a fashion event, which will also see him team up with Luis Suarez.

Messi and Suarez will now head to Hyderabad, where they will be take part in another event organized by the Telangana government. He expected to play an exhibition match with Chief Minister Revanth Reddy.
