King Charles' coronation was celebrated with the Big Lunch at Regent's Park. A logo for King Charles was seen on the grass. This marks the second day of events for the Coronation.

The Big Lunch event marks King Charles' Coronation

More than 14 million people tuned in to watch King Charles III's coronation on BBC television, the corporation said on Sunday.

At its peak, 13.4 million watched on the main BBC One channel, with an average of 11.9 million watching Saturday's coverage of the ceremony.

A signed version on BBC Two peaked at 1.7 million, averaging at 1.4 million, a statement from the public broadcaster read.

Saturday's coronation -- the first to be held in Britain in 70 years -- was only the second to be televised, and the first to be shown in colour.

But the figures indicate that overall viewing figures were well down on previous major royal occasions.

Last year's state funeral of Charles's mother Queen Elizabeth II attracted one of the biggest television audiences in the UK in modern times.

An estimated average audience of 26.2 million watched on TV sets alone, peaking at 28 million, including 18.5 million on the BBC.

In 2011, more than 24 million viewers watched the wedding of Charles's son Prince William on BBC terrestrial television.

In 1997, more than 32 million viewers in the UK watched the funeral of Charles's first wife and William's mother, Princess Diana.

The 1953 coronation of Elizabeth is seen as a breakthrough in broadcasting, as it was the first shown on TV.

Then some 27 million people watched and 11 million listened to the service on the radio, according to Buckingham Palace. But TV set ownership was low.

The BBC was the only broadcaster at the time.

Since then the media landscape has been transformed, with dozens more channels, as well as online, on-demand and streaming services.

Charles's coronation was also broadcast live by commercial channel ITV -- which only launched two years after Elizabeth's coronation -- and others including Sky News.

Their viewing figures were not immediately available.

King Charles and Queen Camilla make first appearance at Buckingham Palace balcony after coronation

Prince Harry trended on Twitter as King Charles III’s coronation ceremony, attended by 2,200 guests in total along with the Duke of Sussex, took place at Westminster Abbey, London on Saturday. Even though the Prince looked joyful at the ceremony, netizens couldn't help but wonder if he felt sidelined at the ceremony as he walked alone and sat back in the third row between Princess Eugenie's husband, Jack Brooksbank, and Princess Alexandra. Now, rumours are rife that he won’t be attending the coronation concert, scheduled for today.

According to People magazine, the Duke of Sussex left for the airport right after his father's enthronement. Harry has reportedly reunited with his wife Meghan Markle and celebrated his son Prince Archie's 4th birthday in a closed event on the same day among Meghan's mother and a few friends in California.

Harry also didn't appear on the Buckingham Palace balcony with his father and brother. The outspoken and controversial prince has clearly been given the royal snub.

Earlier, a statement by the royals informed about Harry joining in for the ceremony and Meghan staying back in California. The Palace said, "Buckingham Palace is pleased to confirm that The Duke of Sussex will attend the Coronation Service at Westminster Abbey on 6th May. The Duchess of Sussex will remain in California with Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet."

This was the first time Harry was seen in public with his family since the release of his memoir Spare, which overshadowed the coronation in recent months. Harry's allegations about the King, Prince William and other royals in the memoir, a Netflix documentary and a series of TV interviews, have reportedly caused rift in the family. The allegations majorly affected Charles but still, it was reportedly his first wish to invite Harry for the enthronement.

King Charles III's enduring case of puffy fingers has captivated the attention of royal watchers and the general public alike. The distinct appearance of his fingers, resembling swollen sausages, has sparked widespread speculation regarding the underlying cause of this peculiar physical condition. Shedding some light on the matter, a medical expert has weighed in on the possible explanation. Dr. Chun Tang, the Medical Director at Pall Mall Medical in Manchester, recently spoke to The Daily Mail, stating, "There are numerous reasons a person may suffer with 'sausage' fingers. Often, puffy fingers are a symptom of water retention, which can be caused by various health conditions. Medically, this condition is referred to as dactylitis."

He added, "This condition arises due to inflammation and can be a result of arthritis, multiple bacterial infections or even TB. Other possibilities include high salt levels, allergic reactions, medicinal side effects, injury and autoimmune diseases. Treatment for this condition can be determined when the underlying cause is identified. A blood test should be carried out to determine the underlying issues."

King Charles' 'Sausage Fingers': Royal mystery solved by doctor ahead of coronation

King Charles III Coronation: Historic moment as Charles is crowned king of UK

British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak read from the biblical book of Colossians at King Charles' coronation ceremony on Saturday, at Westminster Abbey in London.

In keeping with the tradition of UK Prime Ministers performing readings at State occasions, Britain's first PM of Indian heritage and a practising Hindu, read from the Epistle to the Colossians from the New Testament reflecting the theme of service to others.

Sunak and his wife Akshata Murty led the procession of flag-bearers as the United Kingdom's Union Jack flag was carried into the Abbey by a high-ranking Royal Air Force (RAF) cadet.

"In the Abbey where monarchs have been crowned for almost a thousand years, representatives of every faith will play a central role for the first time," said Sunak, in a statement on the eve of the historic event.

"The Coronation of King Charles III and Queen Camilla will be a moment of extraordinary national pride. Together with friends from across the Commonwealth and beyond, we will celebrate the enduring nature of our great monarchy: its constancy, devotion to duty, and service to others. No other country could put on such a dazzling display - the processions, the pageantry, the ceremonies, and street parties," he said.

He highlighted that the coronation ceremony, which is the first in seven decades, is not only just a sumptuous display of pageantry, but also a proud expression of history, culture, and traditions.

He noted, "A vivid demonstration of the modern character of our country. And a cherished ritual through which a new era is born... And in a fitting tribute to the spirit of service that will define the Carolean Age, people across our country will help their communities with thousands of acts of kindness."

"So let's celebrate this weekend with pride in who we are and what we stand for. Let's look to the future with hope and optimism. And let's make new memories, so we can tell our grandchildren of the day we came together to sing: 'God Save The King'."

King Charles, Queen Camilla crowned in historic ceremony at London's Westminster Abbey

King Charles III was crowned on Saturday at London's Westminster Abbey in what is called as Britain's biggest ceremonial event in over 70 years.

As the king sat upon a 14th-century throne in Westminster Abbey, the Archbishop of Canterbury, the spiritual leader of the Anglican Church, placed the solid-gold, 360-year-old St Edward's Crown on his head as an ancient symbol of the monarch's authority. Welby also crowned Charles' second wife Camilla as queen.

The ceremony included a regal procession from Buckingham Palace to Westminster Abbey, with the King and Queen riding in the Diamond Jubilee State Coach bearing a gilded crown. They were accompanied by military personnel on foot and on horseback.

And in a fitting tribute to the spirit of service that will define the Carolean Age, people across our country will help their communities with thousands of acts of kindness." "So let's celebrate this weekend with pride in who we are and what we stand for. Let's look to the future with hope and optimism. And let's make new memories, so we can tell our grandchildren of the day we came together to sing: 'God Save The King'."
