A fundraiser for President Joe Biden in New York on March 28 could set a record for the biggest amount raised for a political event by raising $25 million, according to his campaign. Barack Obama and Bill Clinton will attend the fundraiser.

Fundraiser to unite over three decades of Democratic leadership

The headline-grabbing event will feature a discussion among the three American presidents moderated by 'The Late Show' host Stephen Colbert along with musical guests like Queen Latifah, Lizzo, Ben Platt Cynthia Erivo, and Lea Michele.

"This historic raise is a show of strong enthusiasm for President Biden and Vice President Harris and a testament to the unprecedented fundraising machine we've built," Biden-Harris 2024 campaign co-chair Jeffrey Katzenberg said in a statement.

How much does the fundraiser ticket cost?

The hourlong event is expected to attract thousands of Biden supporters at Radio City Music Hall. The ticket prices start from $225 and go up to $500,000. The event has different tires of access depending on how much money donors give. Small donors can attend the event virtually by paying $25.

For example, a $100,000 donation could get you a photo with all three presidents, $250,000 earns donors access to one reception, and $500,000 gets them an invite to a super exclusive event.

The event doesn't end there according to the campaign, there is an afterparty too, hosted by none other than First Lady Jill Biden and DJ D-Nice at Radio City Music Hall with 500 selected guests.

Campaign co-chair Jeffrey Katzenberg said, “This historic raise is a show of strong enthusiasm for President Biden and Vice President Harris and a testament to the unprecedented fundraising machine we’ve built. Unlike our opponent, every dollar we’re raising is going to reach the voters who will decide this election — communicating the president’s historic record, his vision for the future, and laying plain the stakes of this election.”

Biden fundraiser with Obama and Clinton could 'set a record' by raising $25 million

It wasn’t short of a star-studded massive Democratic gala Thursday night (Mar 28), where US President Joe Biden and two of his predecessors attended an event that helped them rake in $25 million for the presidential campaign. Barack Obama, Bill Clinton and some 5,000 supporters gathered at Radio City Music Hall in New York, in a closely-held event to keep the protesters at bay. But guess what, the speeches by the three presidents were interrupted by protesters at least five times.

The event was also attended by actor and comedian Mindy Kaling, late-night host Stephen Colbert and special guests including celebrities like Queen Latifah, Lizzo, Ben Platt, Cynthia Erivo and Lea Michele.

During a conversation, Kaling even joked that the moment was historic because “three presidents have come to New York, and not one of them to appear in court,” taking a jab at former president Donald Trump’s criminal indictments and civil trials.

Interruptions

Biden’s speech was interrupted by a pro-Palestinian protester, reacting to which the president assured of a peaceful and prosperous future for both Israelis and Palestinians. He also highlighted that Israel’s existence was at stake but added more needs to be done to allow aid into Gaza. The crowd cheered at the response, with some chanting “Four more years.”

Robert Hur, the US prosecutor who sparked a political storm last month with a report alleging President Joe Biden had a "poor memory", defended his opinion in congressional testimony on Tuesday (Mar 12). Hur claimed it was required for his investigation. He called the descriptions of Biden's memory "necessary, accurate and fair". Hur, the former US Special Counsel, spoke to the House of Representatives Judiciary Committee, which has been one of the panels conducting an impeachment inquiry into Biden. He added, "My task was to determine whether the president retained or disclosed national defence information willfully – meaning, knowingly and with the intent to do something the law forbids. I could not make that determination without assessing the president's state of mind." He added that for that reason, he had to "consider the president's memory and overall mental state, and how a jury likely would perceive his memory and mental state in a criminal trial". He said, "Most importantly, what I wrote is what I believe the evidence shows, and what I expect jurors would perceive and believe." He said that he did not sanitise his explanation and neither did he disparage the president unfairly. He said he explained to the attorney general his decision.
