<p>Vance’s remark, made in 2021, has been criticised, with Hollywood actress Jennifer Aniston among those to have hit out at the Republican.</p>

<p>"Apparently it was a sarcastic comment. People are focusing so much on the sarcasm and not on the substance of what I actually said," Vance explained to Megyn Kelly, conservative media personality on Friday (July 26).</p>

<p>Further adding he said, "the substance of what I said, Megyn - I'm sorry, it's true."</p>

<p>Vance, father of three, said he was not criticising those who do not have children in the interview with former Fox News host Tucker Carlson, which he gave while running for the Senate.</p>

<p>"The remark was about criticising the Democratic Party for becoming anti-family and anti-children," he explained at The Megyn Kelly Show.</p>

<p>"I was trying to say that having children, whether as a father or a mother, is a life-changing event that significantly shapes your worldview in a pretty profound way. I'm simply trying to make an argument that our entire society has become skeptical and even hateful towards the idea of having kids," he explained.</p>

<p>It may be recalled here, in the original interview, he questioned why some leading politicians did not have children, mentioning Kamala Harris, the Democratic nominee for November's election, who is stepmother to her husband Doug Emhoff’s two children.</p>

JD Vance defends 'childless cat ladies' remark amid backlash

#Gravitas | US Republican vice presidential nominee JD Vance is facing backlash after comments resurfaced in which he suggested that people without children, specifically "childless cat ladies," were unfit to govern and had no "direct stake" in the country. In a 2021 clip, Vance mentioned Kamala Harris, now the democratic presidential nominee, as he made these remarks on fox news. His comments have been criticized as out-of-touch, sexist, and not in line with modern values.

<p>Hollywood star Jennifer Aniston on Wednesday (Jul 24) slammed JD Vance, who is Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump's running mate, for his "childless cat ladies" remark. Vance's comments are old but have gone recently viral.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Taking to her Instagram Stories, the "Friends" actress posted a screenshot of a social media post which showed Ron Filipkowski sharing a 2021 "Tucker Carlson Tonight" interview clip with Vance.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Alongside the 28-second clip, Filipkowski, who is the editor-in-chief of the MeidasTouch Network, wrote: "JD Vance says women who haven't given birth like Kamala Harris are 'childless cat ladies who are miserable at their own lives,' and have 'no direct stake' in America."&nbsp;</p>

<p>While replying to the video, Aniston wrote, "I truly can’t believe that this is coming from a potential VP of the United States. All I can say is… Mr Vance, I pray that your daughter is fortunate enough to bear children of her own one day."&nbsp;</p>

Hollywood star Jennifer Aniston on Wednesday (Jul 24) slammed JD Vance, who is Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump's running mate, for his "childless cat ladies" remark. Vance's comments are old but have gone recently viral. Taking to her Instagram Stories, the "Friends" actress posted a screenshot of a social media post which showed Ron Filipkowski sharing a 2021 "Tucker Carlson Tonight" interview clip with Vance. Alongside the 28-second clip, Filipkowski, who is the editor-in-chief of the MeidasTouch Network, wrote: "JD Vance says women who haven't given birth like Kamala Harris are 'childless cat ladies who are miserable at their own lives,' and have 'no direct stake' in America." While replying to the video, Aniston wrote, "I truly can’t believe that this is coming from a potential VP of the United States. All I can say is… Mr Vance, I pray that your daughter is fortunate enough to bear children of her own one day." Also read: Obama not keen on endorsing Kamala Harris? Sources hint so "I hope she will not need to turn to IVF as a second option. Because you are trying to take that away from her, too," she added. Similar to Aniston, who opened up about her fertility struggles in a cover story for Allure in 2022, Vance's comments didn't go well with dozens of netizens, who shared their strong opinions on social media and criticised it. Also read: Biden appears as 'Orange Man' in Oval Office address, netizens wonder if it's president or AI Why did Vance say 'childless cat ladies'? He made these remarks during "Tucker Carlson Tonight" show which was aired on Fox News in July 2021. At that time, Vance was running for Ohio's US Senate seat. Vance had said, "We are effectively run in this country … by a bunch of childless cat ladies who are miserable at their own lives and the choices that they've made, and so they wanna make the rest of the country miserable, too." "It's just a basic fact. You look at Kamala Harris, Pete Buttigieg, AOC (Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez), the entire future of the Democrats is controlled by people without children," he added. He added, "And how does it make any sense that we've turned our country over to people who don't really have a direct stake in it?"
