<p>The Indian official informed that Prime Minister Narendra Modi will be in Japan on May 23 and 24 to participate in the Quad summit. He is expected will hold bilateral talks with his counterparts from the US, Australia, and Japan.</p>

<p>1) Quad will also organize a special session on promoting vaccine confidence. The Quad vaccine partnership was announced in March last year with an aim to deliver one billion doses of vaccines to the Indo-Pacific region by the end of 2022.</p>

<p>2) Quad will hold a special session on the sidelines of the World Health Organisation's world health assembly next week.</p>

<p>3) The upcoming summit in Tokyo would provide the leaders with an opportunity to step up for Quad initiatives, said the Indian foreign secretary.</p>

<p>4) When asked whether Quad will be expanded, Kwatra said, “Right now I don't think there is any conversation going on over further expansion of Quad.”</p>

<p>5) He said the talks will focus on continuing cooperation on Covid response and health infrastructure.</p>

<p>6) PM Modi will meet Japanese PM Kishida and discuss on deepening bilateral economic cooperation including trade and investment, clean energy, and cooperation in northeast India.</p>

<p>US President Joe Biden kick-started his first leg of the Asian tour with his visit to South Korea on Friday as Washington looks to boost its alliance in the region which has been witnessing rising Chinese commercial and military power.</p>

<p>Notably, this is Biden’s first trip to the Asian region after he became the president.</p>

<p>The president landed at the Osan Air Base, south of Seoul. He is expected to hold talks with his recently elected counterpart Yoon Suk-yeol on some pressing issues, including North Korea.</p>

<p>Moreover, there are reports that North Korea may be using his trip to test an underground nuclear or intercontinental ballistic missile.</p>

<p>According to CNN, which has quoted officials, Pyongyang has been getting ready to fuel an intercontinental ballistic missile, one of the key final stages in preparing for a test launch.</p>

<p>The White House said it has prepared for all contingencies, including a test occurring while Biden is on the Korean peninsula.</p>

<p>Biden will also visit US and South Korean troops, but will not make the traditional presidential trek to the fortified frontier known as the DMZ between South and North Korea, the White House said.</p>

<p>Hours ahead of Biden arriving, Suk-yeol signalled a warm welcome, tweeting: "A mountain shows its way to the summit to those who seek it. I am confident the ROK-US alliance that seeks to uphold the values of democracy and human rights shall only elevate in the future."</p>

<p>After his three-day trip, Biden will next travel to Japan for bilateral talks with the country's prime minister Fumio Kishida.</p>

<p>The Japan Football Association (JFA) has been informally approached about the possibility of replacing China as hosts of next year`s Asian Cup, Chairman Kozo Tashima told Nikkan Sports. The Asian Football Confederation (AFC) announced last Saturday that China had pulled out of hosting the 24-team continental championship, citing the COVID-19 situation in the country.</p>

<p>"We were sounded out," Tashima told the newspaper, without giving further details. "If Japan were able to host, there`s no question that it would be pretty exciting." The JFA was not immediately available for comment. Japan has the stadium infrastructure in place to stage the tournament in June and July next year, having co-hosted the World Cup in 2002, rugby`s global showpiece in 2019 and the Olympic soccer tournament last year.</p>

<p>Other potential hosts such as Qatar, Saudi Arabia and Australia would need the tournament moved back to late 2023 or early 2024. Qatar, which will host the World Cup later this year, and Saudi Arabia would be inhospitable in the middle of the year because of the summer heat, while Australia is co-hosting the women`s World Cup in July and August 2023.</p>

<p>According to the Japan Soba Association, Japan produced only 42 per cent of its buckwheat needs in 2020 despite its iconic status.</p>

<p>The country's Agriculture Ministry said that although it had been filling the gap with imports from Russia it won't be able to continue the practice after Japan imposed sanctions on Russia.</p>

<p>The use of renewable energy will not be limited to just the trains as lighting, vending machines and even security screens will be powered by alternative sources in these stations as Tokyu became the first operator in the country to achieve the target of creating a complete emission-free system.</p>

<p>“I would stress the bigger impacts come from increasing electricity generation from renewable sources,” he said. “The long-term battle is to increase production of renewable electricity and provide the transmission infrastructure to get it to the places of consumption,” he said.</p>

<p>On the other hand, Ryo Takagi, a professor at Kogakuin University and specialist in electric railway systems, said that the move is a start but the goal is still quite far away from the railway companies.</p>

<p>“But I am not going out of my way to praise it as great,” Takagi said.</p>

<p>“Bigger gains would come from switching from diesel trains in rural areas to hydrogen powered lines and from switching gas-guzzling cars to electric,” he was quoted as saying by the AP report.</p>
