Another incident of violence has been reported in the West Bank, Israeli Emergency Services say that a Palestinian gunman opened fire at a gas station near Israeli settlement in the region killing at least four people and wounding four others standing.

West Bank clashes: Four killed, four other injured in fresh violence

Four people were shot dead Tuesday near a settlement in the occupied West Bank, Israeli officials said, a day after an army raid in the territory left six Palestinians dead.

The attack took place at a petrol station near the Eli settlement, south of Nablus.

Four other people were wounded, according to Israel's Magen David Adom (MDA) emergency services.

The Israeli military said "a civilian in the area neutralised one of the terrorists" -- without giving further details on their condition. A second assailant was shot by Israeli forces following a manhunt, Israel's Shin Bet internal security agency and the military said.

Israel has occupied the West Bank since the 1967 Six-Day War and the territory, excluding east Jerusalem, is now home to around 490,000 Israelis who live in settlements considered illegal under international law.

An MDA spokesperson said its medics confirmed four fatalities but their nationalities were not immediately available.

The assailants' identity also could not be immediately confirmed.

An AFP photographer saw Israeli police officers inspecting a partially-covered body, as soldiers and medics stood nearby.

The area around the gas station and an adjacent restaurant were sealed off with police tape.

The office of Israeli Defence Minister Yoav Gallant said security officials were meeting at 6:00 pm (1500 GMT).

Eliana Passentin, an Israeli settler and resident of Eli, said "we should be able to live our lives every day without being afraid."

"This is our land, this is where we live and we will be strong," she told AFP at the scene.

Deadly raid in Jenin

The shooting comes a day after Israeli forces launched a raid in the West Bank city of Jenin, in which six Palestinians were killed.

A spokesman for the Palestinian militant group Hamas, Hazem Qassem, described Tuesday's shooting as a "response to the crimes of the (Israeli) occupation" in Jenin and elsewhere.

Tariq Selmi, spokesman for the Islamic Jihad militant group, praised a "heroic commando operation" and described it as Palestinians exercising their "legitimate right to self-defence."

The sixth Jenin fatality, Amjad Aref Jaas, died from his gunshot wounds on Tuesday, a Palestinian health ministry statement said.

More than 90 Palestinians were wounded in the hours-long raid, according to health officials, while the Israeli military said eight security personnel were wounded.

After the firefight between Israeli forces and Palestinian militants ended on Monday, the Palestinian health ministry announced Israeli troops killed a 20-year-old near the West Bank city of Bethlehem.

Zakaria Mohammed al-Zaoul was shot in the head in the town of Husan, the ministry said.

The Israeli military said "a suspect hurled Molotov cocktails" at soldiers, who "responded with live fire".

In a statement, Islamic Jihad claimed Zaoul as a member.

The official Palestinian news agency Wafa reported the military used live fire, tear gas and stun grenades during the clashes with young Palestinians.

The deaths are the latest in a surge of violence linked to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, which before Tuesday's shooting had killed at least 166 Palestinians, 21 Israelis, a Ukrainian and an Italian this year.

The tally compiled from official sources includes combatants as well as civilians and, on the Israeli side, three members of the Arab minority.

“An innocent mistake” made by a crew member on an international flight from Italy to Tel Aviv caused a massive uproar in Israel. According to media reports, the Irish budget airline Ryanair faced boycott calls in the Jewish country earlier this week after one of its officials announced in Italian and English language that the flight (to Tel Aviv) was bound for Palestine. On Thursday, Ryanair airline issued an apology for the incident, calling it an “innocent mistake.” In a statement issued to the UK’s Jewish Chronicle, the airline said, “A junior crew member on this flight from Bologna to Tel Aviv (10 June) made a routine descent PA mistakenly saying ‘Palestine’ instead of ‘Tel Aviv.’ This was an innocent mistake with no intent and was immediately corrected and apologized for by the senior crew member on board.”

Eddie Wilson, the CEO of the airline, said he was “100% satisfied that this was an innocent mistake with no political overtones or intent". Wilson said that Israel was an "important partner" for Ryanair, adding that it was Israel's second-largest airline.

The use of the name Palestine instead of Israel for Tel Aviv is thus regarded as highly provocative in the Jewish country.

Tens of thousands of Israelis are up in arms against a controversial plan to reform Israel's judicial system. Ahead of a key Knesset vote to place two lawmakers on the judicial selection committee, protest heads have a warning for Netanyahu. The leaders of weekly protests against the judicial overhaul plan say everything will ignite if one of the selected members of the Knesset is not from the opposition. The government's reform proposals would curtail the authority of the supreme court. It would give politicians greater powers over the selection of the judges. In March, prime minister Netanyahu announced a 'pause' to allow for talks on the reforms, which were moving through parliament & split the nation. Netanyahu's government is firm on the need for a judicial overhaul. The coalition govt argues the proposed changes are needed to rebalance powers between lawmakers & the judiciary. On the other hand, opponents of the plan believe it could open the way to a more authoritarian government.

'Do not try us': Israel protest heads say opposition member must be on judicial selection committee

The far-right lawmakers in Israel are advancing a bill that would give the National Security Minister sweeping powers. According to reports, the bill is being introduced as a private member's bill which would enable Ben-Gvir to skip steps that would invite the government's legal advisors to raise any objections. A private member's bill would allow the bill to be fast-tracked through the Knesset meaning it will bypass the need for a legal opinion from the attorney general.
