Pakistan's former intelligence chief retired Lieutenant General Faiz Hameed has been indicted on charges of "engaging in political activities," ISI's media affairs wing said on Tuesday (Dec. 10). This came four months after Pakistan's army announced the arrest of Lt Gen Hameed and Field General Court Martial (FGCM) proceedings against him. He was accused of violating the Army Act.&nbsp;

Hameed was nabbed from Islamabad when he was called for a meeting by a senior military official. The move was prompted by the allegations of misconduct imposed by the owner of a private housing society.&nbsp;

The owner of Islamabad’s Top City housing society, Ka­n­­war Moeez Khan, was instructed to seek redressal of grievances against Hameed thro­ugh relevant channels by the army, which cited a November 2023 directive from Pakistan's Supreme Court.&nbsp;

The Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) issued a press release on December 10 recalling that the process of FGCM was initiated against Lt Gen Hameed under provisions of the Pakistan Army Act on August 12.

"And in the first place, Lt Gen Faiz Hameed (Retd) has been formally arraigned on charges of engaging in political activities, violations of Official Secret Act detrimental to safety and interest of the state, misuse of authority &amp; government resources and causing wrongful loss to a person(s),” the press release said.&nbsp;

“During the process, involvement of Lt Gen Faiz Hamid (retd), in events related to creating agitation and unrest, leading up to multiple incidents including but not limited to 9th May 2023 incident for fomenting instability; at the behest of and in collusion with vested political interests, is also being separately investigated,” it further added.&nbsp;

The May 9 incident was referred to the&nbsp;mass protest across Pakistan last year after the arrest of former prime minister Imran Khan on corruption charges.&nbsp;

Pakistani forces Friday (Nov 22) launched intelligence-based operations (IBOs) in the Bannu District of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) province, leading to death of three militants and injuries to two others. The operations were launched under Pakistan’s so-called Azm-i-Istehkam initiative, in response to a sharp rise in terror activities in provinces like KP and Balochistan.

The operations come a day after Pakistan witnessed one of the deadliest attacks on its soil this year. Militants launched a gun attack on passenger vans in KP’s Lower Kurram area, killing at least 42 people and injuring 30 others. The convoy of more than 200 vehicles was moving from Parachinar to Peshawar when it came under heavy gunfire.

Pakistan’s Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) in a statement said Friday that the IBOs were launched in Bannu District in the early hours of November 22 on the “reported presence of khwarij”.

"People are being made to post against members of the judiciary and civil society. We are becoming involved in political fights that are harming the army's image."

From June 16, 2019 to Oct 19, 2021, Lt Gen Hameed served as the Inter-Services Intelligence chief. &nbsp;

Outside the Islamabad High Court, Maryam told reporters that the next army chief should have a "flawless reputation", which is free from any kind of criticism or doubts. &nbsp;

The PML-N leader made the comment when asked about Defence Minister Khawaja Asif's remarks where he said Lt Gen Hameed's name can be considered for new army chief. &nbsp;

"The nation looks at the army for the unity and security of Pakistan. So, it is important that the army chief is a person who is worthy and stainless so that people salute the Pakistan Army," Maryam said. &nbsp;&nbsp;

"One of the most competent and professional officers is entrusted with the responsibility to lead this prestigious formation. Imprudent comments made by important senior politicians recently about [the] Peshawar Corps commander are very inappropriate," the ISPR said in a statement. &nbsp;&nbsp;

"It is expected that the senior political leadership of [the] country refrains from passing objectionable remarks against the institution, whose brave officers and men are constantly putting their lives on the line to guard the integrity and sovereignty of Pakistan," the statement concluded. &nbsp;&nbsp;

It also released a special documentary over its&nbsp;claims on what happened during the three-day standoff with India. The day&nbsp;also included performances by Pakistani artists who displayed paintings at an art gallery in the presence of Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan.

ISPR branded the day as "Operation Swift Retort" saying that a "plane was shot down during a dogfight between Pakistani and Indian Air Forces in February last year". The jingoism was quite visible.

There were also celebrations held at Pakistan Air Force headquarters in Islamabad. An extravagant air show was also conducted to showcase the&nbsp;"valour" of Pak Air Force.

A year after Balakot air strikes, Imran's Pakistan government celebrates 'Surprise Day'

After a special court handed <a href="https://www.wionews.com/south-asia/pervez-musharraf-handed-death-sentence-in-high-treason-case-268641">death sentence to former</a> Pak president Pervez Musharraf, the Army in a statement said the decision has been "received with a lot of pain and anguish by rank and file of the Pakistan Armed forces."

Musharraf,76, was sentenced to death for abrogating the Pakistan constitution and imposing emergency in 2007 in a case which began in 2013. Musharraf currently lives in self-imposed exile in Dubai.

"The due legal process seems to have been ignored including constitution of the special court, denial of fundamental right of self defence, undertaking individual specific proceedings and concluding the case in haste," the Army asserted.

"Armed forces of Pakistan expect that justice will be dispensed in line with the constitution of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan," it added.

Musharraf had resigned in 2008 over the threat of impeachment proceedings and had gone into exile in Dubai, however, he returned in 2013 to contest the polls in Pakistan but was barred from leaving the country.

After the court verdict, Benazir Bhutto's son Bilawal Bhutto Zardari tweeted: "Democracy is the best revenge".

Musharraf's sentence received with 'pain & anguish', he can never be a traitor: Pak Army

Pakistan has put out an interestingly-worded statement about whether or not it used F-16s in its air battle with Indian fighter jets on February 27.&nbsp;

The statement — Reference repeated Indian claims about <a href="https://www.wionews.com/india-news/indian-radars-catch-four-pakistani-f-16s-flying-close-to-the-border-in-punjab-207239">shooting down of Pakistani F-16 by India</a> and use of F16 in air battle on 27 February — was put out by the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), the media wing of the Pakistani armed forces.&nbsp;

"The event of 27 Feb is part of history now," the statement says.&nbsp;

The Indian Air Force had on February 26 conducted an air strike on a Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM) training camp in Balakote in Pakistan's Khyber Pakhtunwa province. The terror group JeM has claimed responsibility for the February 14 suicide attack on a security convoy in Pulwama that left over 40 CRPF personnel dead.&nbsp;

On February 27, Indian and Pakistani jets engaged in a dogfight after Pakistan dropped bombs on Indian territory in Jammu and Kashmir from its side of the Line of Control. India says the bombs were aimed at Indian military installations but that they missed their targets.&nbsp;

It was the first time in over 40 years that the air forces of the two countries had engaged in combat. Both sides lost a plane each — India a MiG-21 and the Pakistanis an F-16.&nbsp;

The ISPR statement however says "no Pakistani F-16s was hit by Indian airforce" and that two Indian jets "were shot down by PAF".&nbsp;

"As regard PAF action for strikes across LOC it was done by JF17 from within Pakistan airspace. Later when 2 Indian jets crossed LOC they were shot down by PAF," the statement said. &nbsp;

And that is also when it began to get interesting.&nbsp;

"Whether it was F16 or JF17 which shot down 2 Indian aircrafts is immaterial. Even if F-16 have been used as at that point in time complete PAF was airborne including F16s, the fact remains that Pakistan Airforce shot down two Indian jets in self defence," the statement said.&nbsp;

"India can assume any type of their choice even F-16. Pakistan retains the right to use anything and everything in its legitimate self defence," the statement added.&nbsp;

Apart from the ambiguously-worded statement — "Whether it was F16 or JF17 which shot down 2 Indian aircrafts is immaterial" — it is thought that Pakistan's possible use of F-16s may violate the country's end-user agreement on the planes with the US. &nbsp;

India has taken up Pakistan's possible use of the F-16s with the US, supplying it with fragments of an AMRAAM missile it says was fired by the F-16s. lndia says Pakistan does not have any other fighter plane that can be fitted with an AMRAAM missile.&nbsp;

In response to WION's question on the proscription of globally listed terrorist Hafiz Saeed’s organization, he said: “We proscribed them but a process was followed, they were told to do something’s when they were put on the watch-list which they failed, so they have been banned. This is in our interest, there is a time for everything to be done and this has not been done in under any pressure. The process to ensure the ban is being expedited on the ground.”

Pakistan&#39;s Inter Services Public Relations (ISPR) on Wednesday said that two Pakistani nationals were killed in firing along the working boundary in the Chaprar sector.

Pakistan's Inter Services Public Relations (ISPR) on Wednesday said that two Pakistani nationals were killed in firing along the working boundary in the Chaprar sector. Eight civilians were also injured in the "cross-border firing by the Indian forces", the ISPR statement said.
