A Qatari official said in a statement to Reuters on Thursday no invitation had been sent to the IRGC.

Iran's&nbsp;participation drew criticism from the United States.

The Iranian government has said that an investigation has been ordered into the "conspiracy" of leaked audio in which Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif says the military and the Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps (IRGC) are too influential in diplomacy.

President Hassan Rouhani ordered the investigation to identify who leaked the "stolen" three-hour-long recording by top diplomat and member of his moderate government Mohammad Javad Zarif, the spokesman said.

The tape, which comes ahead of presidential elections in June, has dominated the discussion in the Islamic republic since its publication by media outlets outside Iran on Sunday.

"We believe this theft of documents is a conspiracy against the government, the system, the integrity of effective domestic institutions, and also against our national interests," government spokesman Ali Rabiei told reporters.

"The president has ordered the intelligence ministry to identify the agents of this conspiracy," he added.

The file was "stolen for clear reasons", he said, without elaborating further.

Foreign ministry spokesman Saeed Khatibzadeh did not deny the authenticity of the recording but said on Monday that it was cut from a seven-hour interview that included "personal opinions".

Zarif did not comment on the controversy, but published on Tuesday a brief audio message on Instagram, saying "I believe you should not work for history... I say that don't worry about history so much, but worry about God and the people".

He did not specify when he recorded this message.

The leaked remarks sparked harsh criticism from conservative media and politicians, with the mention of Iran's slain general Qasem Soleimani hitting a nerve.

Soleimani, considered one of the prominent architects of Iranian regional policy, was killed early last year in an American drone strike in Baghdad, ordered by former US President Donald Trump.

The leak and probe come ahead of presidential elections on June 18, which will see the moderate Rouhani step down after two terms in office and after conservatives fared well in parliamentary elections last year.

Salafi jihadist militant organization Jaish ul-Adl has released two soldiers of Iran's Revolutionary Guards after two years of their abduction in exchange of release of their two arrested group members.

The group has handed over the Iranian soldiers at Pak-Iran bordering town of Mashkail on February 2 where the Iranian authorities released four Jaish ul-Adl members.

The names of released group members are Abdul Rehman Sangani, Abubakar Rustami, Sher Ahmed Sherani and Muhammad Sabir.

Jaish ul-Adl kidnapped 12 soldiers of Iran's Revolutionary Guards on October 2018 from Mirjawa the Iranian border side near Pakistan’s district Chaghi while five soldiers were released after one month of their abduction and four were released on March 2019.

However, in a statement, the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) have claimed that they released two members of the force after conducting a successful operation in Saistan Balochistan Province of Iran.

Jaish ul-Adl operates from bases in the southeastern province of Sistan-Baluchestan and neighbouring Pakistan, where it gets support from ethnic Baluch tribes.

It was founded in 2012 by Salahuddin Farooqui, a militant known for his opposition to Iran's support for President Bashar al-Assad in Syria's civil war.

Since then it has claimed responsibility for dozens of deadly bombings, ambushes and other attacks on Iranian security forces in the restive region, as well as abductions.

Iran considers the organisation -- which it calls Jaish al-Zolm (Army of Injustice in Arabic) -- a terrorist group supported by the United States and Israel as well as regional rivals Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates.

According to Iran's state media, authorities on Wednesday exchanged a jailed British-Australian academic, Kylie Moore-Gilbert, with three Iranians who were detained abroad.

Moore-Gilbert who was serving a 10-year sentence for espionage was swapped for an Iranian businessman and two Iranian citizens, Iran's TV channel reported.

Reports said the Iranians were detained for trying to circumvent US sanctions reimposed in 2018 after the Trump administration exited the nuclear deal.

Moore-Gilbert was a lecturer in Islamic Studies at the University of Melbourne and was reportedly detained last year.&nbsp;

However, according to British media reports, Moore-Gilbert was arrested at Tehran airport by Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps(IRGC) in September 2018.

Moore-Gilbert stridently denied spying charges. Reports indicated that Moore-Gilbert was shifted to Iran's notorious Evin prison as Australian authorities began efforts to track her.

A senior Iranian official of Iran's intelligence agency has claimed that Tehran has foiled a plot to assassinate Major General Qassem Soleimani, a senior commander in Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC).

Hossein Taeb — the head of Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps' intelligence unit — said that the unit thwarted a ploy to assassinate the major general.

The blame has been put on old foes — the Israelis and Arabs.

According to Hossein Taeb, a team of terrorist-recruits were to enter Iran and execute the plan for a bomb attack targeting Soleimani.

The plotters were to buy property adjacent to the grave of Soleimani's father in the south-eastern province of Kerman and rig it with three-hundred-and-50 to five-hundred kilograms of explosives.

Hossein Taeb — the head of Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps' intelligence unit — said that the unit thwarted a ploy to assassinate the major general. The blame has been put on old foes — the Israelis and Arabs. According to Hossein Taeb, a team of terrorist-recruits were to enter Iran and execute the plan for a bomb attack targeting Soleimani. They would then blow it up during the major general's religious visit between September 8 and 9. Hossein Taeb said that the plotters were under watch for some time. Three members of the team have since been arrested. He pointed out that the arrested confessed of their intention to do something big and that the plot had been years in the planning.. Hossein Taeb alleged that the Hebrew-Arab intelligence services wanted to ignite a religious conflict and portray the assassination as domestic revenge. Major general Qassem Soleimani is a globally famous defence strategist and is currently the commander of the Quds Force unit of Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps. He is credited with heading the counter-terrorism operations that led to the collapse of the Islamic State terror group in Iraq and Syria.
