Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday arrived in Guyana, the first Indian PM to visit the country in 56 years. 
In an unprecedented gesture, he was received at the airport by the President of Guyana, Mohamed Irfaan Ali, and over a dozen cabinet ministers. 
On PM's arrival, the President of Guyana shared a hug and exchanged pleasantries.

PM Modi received a ceremonial welcome and Guard of Honour in Georgetown, Guyana. 
During his visit, PM Modi will address a special sitting of Guyana's parliament. He will also join leaders from the Caribbean partner countries for the 2nd India-CARICOM Summit.

In a press briefing ahead of the PM's visit to Guyana, the Ministry of External Affairs noted that the Prime Minister's visit comes at the invitation of Guyanese President Mohammad Irfaan Ali.

Ministry of External Affairs Secretary (East) Jaideep Mazumdar said, "Recently, there has been an uptick in high-level contacts between India and Guyana. President Irfaan

Ali himself was a chief guest at Pravasi Bharatiya Divas in January 2023".

He added, "We have had a longstanding developmental partnership with Guyana, and this is in the fields of health, connectivity, and renewable power. The Garden Reach Shipbuilders and Engineers (GRSE) built an ocean-going ferry, which we supplied to Guyana last year. We also supplied two HAL 228 aircraft under a line of credit to Guyana this year. Solar lighting for about 30,000 indigenous communities has been provided to 30,000 households. And we have so far had 800 ITEC alumni from Guyana who have studied in India. We hope to partner with them in several fields, including in hydrocarbons, but also areas of healthcare, education and defence."

Elaborating on the Guyana visit, Mazumdar said that the PM will engage in delegation-level talks with President Irfaan Ali.

The MEA official further said that Guyana is the fastest-growing economy in the world and asserted that India in future will get the opportunity to partner with them in various fields. "It is the fastest-growing economy in the world, and we will have opportunities for partnering with them in diverse fields," Mazumdar said. (ANI)

US Ambassador to India Eric Garcetti has once again lectured New Delhi saying there is no such thing as strategic autonomy in times of conflict.&nbsp;Garcetti was speaking at the Defence News Conclave organised by CUTS International.&nbsp;

Garcetti's comment comes in the backdrop of Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi visiting Russia and meeting President Vladimir Putin at the same time as the NATO Summit was underway in Washington.&nbsp;

“I know...and I respect that India likes its strategic autonomy. But in times of conflict, there is no such thing as strategic autonomy. We will, in crisis moments, need to know each other," said Garcetti.&nbsp;

"I don’t care what title we put to it, but we will need to know that we are trusted friends, brothers and sisters, colleagues,” he added.&nbsp;

Without taking Russia's name, Garcetti urged New Delhi to take action against 'war machines' and side with the US.&nbsp;

“No war is distant anymore, and we must not just stand for peace. We must take concrete actions to make sure those who don’t play by peaceful rules that their war machines cannot continue unabated. That’s something the US needs to know and that India needs to know together.”

Garcetti chalked a comparison between&nbsp;the India-Russia Summit,&nbsp;which resulted in two joint statements and nine agreements, and the Indian prime minister’s visit to Washington last June.

“We can read leaders’ agreements, as we might have done this week...look through the ones that are kind of dressed up versus the ones that have to be edited down. I was told when we had the prime minister’s visit, that a state visit that has five to 10 deliverables is a very strong visit. At our peak, we had 173 separate deliverables, that the US and India were working on together,” he said.

While India maintains good yet circumspect&nbsp;ties with the Joe Biden administration, New Delhi is equally receptive to its traditional ally in Russia, as was evident during PM Modi's first bilateral visit to Moscow after being sworn in for his third stint.&nbsp;&nbsp;

US envoy Garcetti miffed by India's 'strategic autonomy' after PM Modi's Russia visit

Leader of Maldives Jumhooree Party (JP), Qasim Ibrahim has appealed to Maldivian President Mohamed Muizzu to formally apologise to Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the citizens of the country.

This comes as the main opposition of Maldives, MDP, which has a majority in the Maldivian Parliament, said that it has been planning to submit a motion for the impeachment of the president.&nbsp;

This decision was followed by clashes which broke out between pro-government MPs and opposition lawmakers in the House following differences over the approval of four members of his cabinet.

Now, Yameen (former president Abdulla Yameen) is questioning why Muizzu, who participated with him in the India Out Campaign, has not nullified the Presidential Decree," Ibrahim said, as reported by news agency ANI.&nbsp;

"The decree should not be nullified, as it would only result in a loss to the nation. That cannot be done. I would tell Muizzu that it shouldn't be done. Also, I call on President Muizzu to formally apologise to the Indian government and Prime Minister Modi regarding his remarks after the China trip," he said.&nbsp;

<h2>Maldives' decree over 'India Out' campaign</h2>

Meanwhile, last year, a decree was signed by the then-Maldives President Ibrahim Solih which stated that the opposition's 'India Out' campaign is a "threat to national security".&nbsp;

This permits security agencies to pull down campaign banners and provide constitutional cover for taking action against opposition parties.

'Formally apologise to Indian PM Modi': Opposition asks Maldives President Muizzu

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday (Dec 30) reached the house of a woman, identified as Meera Manjhi, who is the Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana's tenth-crore beneficiary in the Indian city of Ayodhya in the state of Uttar Pradesh.

The prime minister was offered tea by the beneficiary of the flagship scheme when he stopped at her home. Under the scheme, rural and deprived households – which have been using firewood, coal, and cow-dung cakes for cooking – are provided clean cooking fuel such as LPG cylinders.

During his visit to Meera's house, the prime minister asked her when the cylinder was delivered to her and also inquired about the electricity and water supply in the house. He also asked her how she was provided money under the government scheme for the construction of the house and whether they had to bribe anyone to get any work done.

When he walked outside the house, the prime minister was greeted by a large crowd on the narrow streets of Ayodhya who shouted slogans of “Jai Shree Ram”. The prime minister also signed a painting which was presented to him by a boy.

The prime minister visited Ayodhya on Saturday (Dec 30). His visit started with the commencement of an 8 km-long road show during which enthusiastic people made a bee-line on the two sides of the streets and showered flowers on him while chanting "Jai Shree Ram".

The official proceedings of PM Modi included the newly constructed Ayodhya Dham Junction railway station's inauguration. After this, the prime minister inspected the trains and held discussions with schoolchildren.

The prime minister officially flagged off both the Vande Bharat and Amrit Bharat trains. He further inaugurated the Maharishi Valmiki International Airport which will further improve connectivity and infrastructure of the city.&nbsp;

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday (December 23) said that to rejuvenate the mother earth and to secure the future of the coming generations, we must once again turn to natural farming.&nbsp;

PM Modi was speaking during a political rally in one of the most popular cities in India's northern state Uttar Pradesh - Varanasi, from where he appealed to farmers to adopt natural farming and also called for strengthening the dairy sector.

"This method will make farming 'atmanirbhar' [self-dependent]. Those working in startups should also explore possibilities for this," said PM Modi, who was in Varanasi to inaugurate a dairy&nbsp;named Banas Dairy Kashi Sankul at Karkhiyaon.&nbsp;

The Indian Prime Minister also said that milk committees and collection centres would be set up and certification of purity would also be done.&nbsp;

Earlier, the Prime Minister launched a portal and a logo dedicated to the Conformity Assessment Scheme of milk products, developed by the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) with the help of the National Dairy Development Board (NDDB).&nbsp;

The unified logo, featuring both the BIS logo and the NDDB quality mark, will simplify the certification process for the dairy sector and reassure the public about dairy product quality.&nbsp;

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi appeals to farmers to adopt natural farming

In order to address the twin challenges of climate change and malnutrition, India’s Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday launched 35 crop varieties with special traits, saying that science and technology are being used on priority for solutions to tackle the climate change impact on agriculture.

These special traits crop varieties also include those that address the anti-nutritional factors found in some crops that adversely affect human and animal health.

Stating that climate change is adversely impacting agriculture, Modi said, “Due to climate change, new types of pests, new diseases, epidemics are coming. Due to this, there is a big threat to the health of humans and livestock and crops are also being affected.”

“Intensive research on these aspects is necessary continuously. When science, government and society work together, it gets even better results. This nexus of farmers and scientists will further strengthen the nation to face new challenges,” PM Modi said while addressing the nation via video conferencing.

The prime minister also interacted with farmers from different states to take stock of how government schemes have benefited them.

These special varieties of seeds have been developed by the Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR), an autonomous body responsible for co-ordinating agricultural education and research in India.

It has produced the crop varieties, the body stated, with specific features to meet the twin concerns of climate change and malnutrition.

The 35 such crop varieties with ‘drought-tolerant’ characteristics include chickpea, wilt- and early-maturing soybean, disease-resistant rice varieties, and biofortified wheat, pearl millet, maize, and chickpea, quinoa, buckwheat, winged bean, and faba.
