India's Union Defence Minister Rajnath Singh has urged residents of Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK) to join India. The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader was addressing a public rally in the Ramban district of Jammu and Kashmir where he said PoK will soon become a part of India.&nbsp;

The union territory goes to polls later this month and BJP has employed its top brass for the canvassing trail.&nbsp;

“Once our government is formed in Jammu and Kashmir, we will carry out development that will make the people of Pakistan-Occupied Kashmir (PoK) want to become part of India,” said Singh.&nbsp;&nbsp;

"Support the BJP to form the next government in J&amp;K so that we can facilitate massive development in the region.&nbsp;There will be so much development that the people in PoK on seeing this should say that we do not want to live with Pakistan and instead will go to India," he added.&nbsp;

"I want to tell PoK residents that Pakistan is considering you foreigner but the people in India do not consider you as such. We consider you as our own and so come and join us."

Singh also slammed the National Conference-Congress alliance for their poll promise of restoring Article 370. Singh said as long as the BJP is in power, such a reversal will remain impossible.&nbsp;

'Come and join us': Defence Minister Rajnath Singh tells PoK residents to leave Pakistan for India

The&nbsp;Defence Acquisition Council&nbsp;(DAC), under the chairmanship of&nbsp;Defence Minister&nbsp;Rajnath Singh&nbsp;on Tuesday (Sep 3) accorded Acceptance of Necessity (AoN) for 10 capital acquisition proposals amounting to Rs 1,44,716 crore ($17 billion)

Of the total cost of AoNs, 99 per cent is from Indigenous sources under the Buy (Indian) and Buy (Indian-Indigenously Designed Developed and Manufactured) categories, the Ministry of Defence stated.

For the modernisation of the tank fleet of the&nbsp;Indian Army, the proposal for procurement of Future Ready Combat Vehicles (FRCVs) has been cleared.

The FRCV will be a futuristic Main Battle Tank with superior mobility, all-terrain ability, multilayered protections, precision and lethal fires over and real-time situational awareness, the release stated.

Indian government gives nod to procure military hardware worth $17 billion

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi's central government is set to overhaul the Waqf Act to restrict the "unfettering" powers of the Waqf Board - - the country's third largest landowner after the Indian Railways and armed forces.

The cabinet approved a total of 40 amendments to the act on Friday (Aug 2) last week during a high-level meeting. The changes will be clocked in by bringing a bill to Parliament in the next few days.&nbsp;

"As per the proposed amendments, all claims made by the Waqf Board on properties will undergo mandatory verification. A mandatory verification process is proposed for properties claimed by the Waqf Board," the sources stated.

<h2>What does the government want to repeal?</h2>

The amendments are&nbsp;intended to reduce the arbitrary powers currently wielded by Waqf Boards, which allow them to claim any property as waqf without any mandatory verification.&nbsp;

Additionally, the government is mulling involving district magistrates in monitoring Waqf properties to prevent misuse of the assets.&nbsp;Properties claimed by Waqf Boards will also have to undergo fresh verification to resolve disputes.&nbsp;

AIMIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi has&nbsp;come out in opposition to the proposed changes. Owisi said the government wanted to take away the autonomy of the Waqf Board by interfering in its functions.&nbsp;

"The BJP has been against these boards and Waqf properties from the very beginning and they have a Hindutva agenda. Now if you make amendments to the establishment and composition of the Waqf Board, then there will be administrative chaos, a loss of autonomy of the Waqf Board and if the control of the government increases over the Waqf Board, then the independence of Waqf will be affected," the Hyderabad MP said.

Similarly, the&nbsp;All India Muslim Personal Law Board in a statement said any change or alteration in the Waqf Act “will not be tolerated”.

The Indian government has decided to deploy two battalions of the Border Security Force (BSF), comprising over 2,000 personnel, from the eastern state of Odisha to the terror-hit Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir.&nbsp;

The decision has been taken in the wake of increased terror attacks in the region. The two units&nbsp;will be 'immediately' moved from the anti-Naxal operations grid to Jammu, according to news agency PTI.&nbsp;

"Two recent meetings, one in Delhi and one in Jammu, of the top security brass, necessitated bolstering BSF deployment in Jammu,"&nbsp;a senior officer was quoted as saying on the condition of anonymity.

"There was a proposal to move two BSF battalions from Odisha to Chhattisgarh to intensify anti-Naxal operations there but these units are now being sent to Jammu, given the current situation," the officer added.

Currently, BSF guards 2,289 kilometres of the international boundary in Jammu, Punjab, Rajasthan and Gujarat. Jammu accounts for 485 kilometres of this border which is replete with dense forests and treacherous terrain, making counter-terrorist operations difficult.&nbsp;&nbsp;

The fresh deployment comes in the backdrop of 500 Indian Army Special Forces para-commandos being stationed in Jammu, earlier this month. The deployment is part of the army's tactical and strategic readjustment to counter terrorists.

“The plan is to alter and tweak the counter-terror security grid in the region. Thickening of troop presence has a two-fold purpose - to increase and improve intelligence gathering and to deny local support to the terrorists,” a senior security official said at the time.&nbsp;

Currently, BSF guards 2,289 kilometres of the international boundary in Jammu, Punjab, Rajasthan and Gujarat. Jammu accounts for 485 kilometres of this border which is replete with dense forests and treacherous terrain, making counter-terrorist operations difficult. The fresh deployment comes in the backdrop of 500 Indian Army Special Forces para-commandos being stationed in Jammu, earlier this month. The deployment is part of the army's tactical and strategic readjustment to counter terrorists. “The plan is to alter and tweak the counter-terror security grid in the region. The average MPCE at current prices, according to the survey, more than doubled to Rs 6,459 ($77.93)&nbsp;a month per person in urban areas in 2022-23 from Rs 2,630 ($31.73) in 2011-12.

Meanwhile, in the rural areas, the average MPCE rose from Rs 1,430 ($17.25)&nbsp;a month per person in 2011-12 to Rs 3,773 ($45.52) in 2022-23, according to the report.&nbsp;

The report also shows that Indians spent less on food, particularly staples like rice and wheat when compared to discretionary items such as processed food, as well as durables like televisions.&nbsp;

“The latest consumer expenditure survey gives insight on spending patterns of Indian households and is key to gauge demand in the economy,” said the report.&nbsp;

It added, “The data will also be used by the government to readjust items considered for calculating retail inflation and gross domestic product data.”

The report shows spending on food fell to 46 per cent of monthly consumption for consumers in rural areas, which is nearly seven per cent less than in 2011-12. Meanwhile, in urban areas, it fell from 43 per cent to 39 per cent.&nbsp;

The Union and Manipur government on Thursday (Dec 14) handed at least 64 bodies of victims killed in the ongoing ethnic violence in the northeastern state to their families. The bodies were airlifted from morgues in the hospitals located in the capital city of Imphal and delivered to two hill districts.&nbsp;

The delivery of bodies ends months of speculation and possibly brings closure to the families of the victims. According to reports, the bodies were at the&nbsp;Jawaharlal Nehru Institute of Medical Sciences (JNIMS) and the Regional Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS).

The transfer of the bodies took place after the Supreme Court last month issued an order for the dignified disposal of the unclaimed bodies.&nbsp;

Since the violence first broke out in the state in May, 175 deaths have been reported and the dead bodies were brought to the morgues. 81 bodies were claimed previously while 94 remained. Out of these bodies, 88 were identified but families were unable to travel to the morgues to claim the bodies due to the prevailing tense situation.&nbsp;

“No decision has been taken yet on the date and place of burials for those bodies brought to Churachandpur. The last rites will most probably be held next week,” Ginza Vualzong from Indigenous Tribal Leaders Forum (ITLF), a Kuki organisation based in Churachandpur, was quoted as saying by Hindustan Times.

India's annual retail inflation eased to a four-month low of 4.87 per cent in October, a positive trend that the RBI acknowledged but noted that it remained above the central bank's 4 per cent target. The RBI expects inflation to average 5.4 per cent in the fiscal year 2023-24.

He&nbsp;claimed they had warned the government not to provide permission, but the latter "turned of a blind eye" to their demands, and the bike drivers continue to operate in the city.

Auto drivers argue that for them it's a must to follow many rules and regulations such as getting permits, paying taxes, ensuring safety standards and charging fares fixed by the government. However, the bike taxis on the other hand do not have any such obligations to follow and charge lower rates.&nbsp;

What do the bike taxi operators say?

Following the accusations by the auto drivers, bike taxi operators have claimed that they have been&nbsp;providing all legal and essential services to the public, especially during the pandemic. They added that they are not competing with auto drivers but complementing them with another form of&nbsp;transport service.&nbsp;

They added that with this service, they are also providing employment to thousands of youngsters who otherwise would have been unemployed.&nbsp;

Bike taxi operators claimed that in states like Telangana, Haryana and Rajasthan they have been allowed to operate "legally," and have urged the Karnataka government to do the same.

"Buoyant albeit mixed domestic consumption should help to stave off some of the pain arising from weak exports during this period," Aditi Nayar, an economist at ICRA, told Reuters.

It is to be noted that India's visit to Pakistan will be subject to the clearance of the government at the time but is believed to be in BCCI's plans. As per a report in Cricbuzz, the board officials didn't dwell much in this regard. However,&nbsp;the significant part is that the Indian cricket board's secretary Jay Shah is the&nbsp;president of the Asian Cricket Council (ACC).

Reportedly, all the associates, affiliates or fronts associated with PFI have been banned under Section 3 of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) ACT (UAPA) for a period of five years. "In exercise of powers conferred by sub-section (1) of section 3 of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act, 1967 (37 of 1967), the Central Government hereby declared the Popular Front of India (PFI) and its associated or affiliates or fronts including Rehab India Foundation, Campus Front of India, All India Imams Council, National Confederation of Human Rights Organization, National Women's Front, Junior Front, Empower India Foundation and Rehab Foundation, Kerala, as an 'unlawful association'," read a government notification. It added that several instances of PFI having international linkages with "global terrorist groups" had been reported in the last few years. Moreover, some activists of PFI had joined terror outfits such as ISIS and partaken in terror activities in Syria, Iraq and Afghanistan, it said. What does the ban mean? The ban on PFI and its associates is expected to cripple its funding route which, in turn, might hamper the recruitment of members. The bank accounts and properties associated with the organisation might be frozen or seized in the coming days. Anyone associated with the organisation can also be booked under the stringent UAPA which the Narendra Modi government has used liberally against such outfits. As reported by WION, National Investigation Agency (NIA) last Thursday launched what it described as one of the "largest-ever investigation process till date" against the PFI. It was the first of the two instances when NIA launched a nationwide crackdown on the organisation including several raids. Sharing additional details, Mishra said that from 2019 until last month, India has reported more than three million such cases. The information was reported to and monitored by the Indian Computer Emergency Response Team (CERT-in), he added.

In a written reply to a query in the Lok Sabha, Mishra said “...a total of 394,499, 1,158,208, 1,402,809 and 674,021 cyber security incidents were observed in 2019, 2020, 2021 and 2022 (up to June), respectively,” Hindustan Times reported.

According to Mishra, the government has taken numerous steps to strengthen cyber security and prevent cyber attacks, including regularly issuing several alerts and advisories regarding the recent ongoing cyber threats and security flaws and providing security measures to safeguard computers and networks.

Mishra further said that the government has established guidelines for Chief Information Security Officers detailing their primary tasks and responsibilities for safeguarding apps and infrastructure.

India reports more than 670K cyber security cases until June

It has been termed the great exodus as residents of war-torn Ukraine look for a new home amid the continuing Russian invasion. This is the largest humanitarian crisis after World War II, with over 2 million people displaced. Besides Ukrainians, there were thousands of Indian students who were stranded in a country.&nbsp;

One among them was Arnaz Nasreen. The student from Kharkiv National Medical university was preparing for her trip back home on February 24 but was woken up to a message stating her flight was cancelled.

"I still chose to go to the airport to check the status. On my way I got the news that Russia has invaded Ukraine," said the 19-year-old. With the airport sealed off, she had nowhere to go as she had travelled from the northeastern city of Kharkiv to Kyiv, which is in the west, about 500 km away.

The situation around her was getting worse. All she could hear was bombardment. Clueless of what to do next, she called home. “I informed my sister about the situation. She contacted my consultant, who directed me to another student’s accommodation in Kyiv.” The temporary safe house did not have a bunker, so they both decided to move to a nearby hostel to take shelter. “We were trying to book a cab when we heard that a Russian tank ran over a car. So, we chose to walk," Nasreen told WION.

“On reaching the hostel, we realised it was a military base used by the Ukrainian Army. There were snipers positioned on the higher floors and through our windows we saw Russian troops being shot down.”

With constant bombing in the vicinity, they had to make sure the food they had lasted longer, as stepping out was not an option. “I didn’t have a sip of water for three days, lunch was a piece of wafer, and bun for dinner.”

The news of the Chernobyl power plant being captured led her to leave the hostel. “I thought if anything goes wrong at the power plant, nobody will survive even if we are in bunkers. I asked around if people wanted to find a way to the borders, and some of them agreed.”

“I had been vigilant for a few days I was at the hostel. I noted that at a particular time slot, there was no bombing from either side, so we decided to move out accordingly.”&nbsp;

They planned to take a metro till wherever it goes, and then figure out the next step. “At the station, we were being interrogated; soon I was held at gunpoint and I had to convince the Ukrainian Army about my purpose of being at the location.”

Nasreen said she had no choice but to be strong and that kept her going.&nbsp;

“As we tried to board the train, we were pushed out. At some point, there were people climbing over my shoulders, it was chaotic. I was struggling to get into the train, when one student pulled me in while I was almost hanging out. From there, we reached a place called Uzhhorod.”&nbsp;

She stressed that even if there was discrimination at the train station, the Ukrainian government made sure everybody who reached a safe zone was given enough food and water to sustain their journey.

The journey from Uzhhorod to Slovakia border was the last leg of their turbulent route to evacuation. “It was a 6km walk to the border. We heaved a sigh of relief once we reached there. Across the border, Indian embassy looked after our stay and food. Everything was smooth after crossing the border. However the fact that we made it will take some time to sink in. All along, I worked only on my instinct,” she said as she reached home safely.&nbsp;

Nasreen also mentioned how the journey began with a group of people, and then as they took calls for themselves, they had to unfortunately split. Even though the destination was the same, everybody took a different road to reach.

On returning, Nasreen has been in constant touch with her batchmates and friends, who have been trying to reach the borders for evacuation.&nbsp;

I noted that at a particular time slot, there was no bombing from either side, so we decided to move out accordingly.” They planned to take a metro till wherever it goes, and then figure out the next step. “At the station, we were being interrogated; soon I was held at gunpoint and I had to convince the Ukrainian Army about my purpose of being at the location.” Nasreen said she had no choice but to be strong and that kept her going. “As we tried to board the train, we were pushed out. At some point, there were people climbing over my shoulders, it was chaotic. I was struggling to get into the train, when one student pulled me in while I was almost hanging out. From there, we reached a place called Uzhhorod.” She stressed that even if there was discrimination at the train station, the Ukrainian government made sure everybody who reached a safe zone was given enough food and water to sustain their journey. The journey from Uzhhorod to Slovakia border was the last leg of their turbulent route to evacuation. “It was a 6km walk to the border. We heaved a sigh of relief once we reached there. Across the border, Indian embassy looked after our stay and food. Everything was smooth after crossing the border. However the fact that we made it will take some time to sink in. All along, I worked only on my instinct,” she said as she reached home safely. Nasreen also mentioned how the journey began with a group of people, and then as they took calls for themselves, they had to unfortunately split. Even though the destination was the same, everybody took a different road to reach. On returning, Nasreen has been in constant touch with her batchmates and friends, who have been trying to reach the borders for evacuation. All eyes are now on the several productions lined up, particularly Rohit Shetty's Akshay Kumar-Katrina Kaif starrer 'Sooryavanshi'&nbsp;and Kabir Khan's '83' starring Ranveer Singh.

The key highlights of the new protocol are as follows: 
 
Thermal screening of visitors/staff is to be carried out at entry points. Only asymptomatic individuals shall be allowed to enter the premises. 
Provisions for hand sanitisation should be made available at all entry points and in work areas. 
 
Designated queue markers shall be made available for entry and exit of the audience from the auditorium and the premises. 
The exit should be done in a staggered row-wise manner to avoid crowding. 
 
Sufficient time interval between successive screenings on a single screen as well as on various screens in a multiplex shall be provided to ensure row-wise staggered entry and exit of the audience. 
 
Proper crowd management in the parking lots and outside the premises -- duly following physical distancing -- norms shall be ensured. 
The number of people in the elevators shall be restricted, duly maintaining physical distancing norms. 
 
Efforts shall be made to avoid overcrowding in the common areas, lobbies and washrooms during the intermission. The audience&nbsp;may be encouraged to avoid movement during the intermission. Longer intermissions may be used to allow the audience seated in different rows of the auditorium to move.
