Although there was no wicketkeeper in Karthik’s initial all-time XI, Rahul Dravid’s presence saved his day, as Dravid, back in the day, kept wickets for a couple of years, including during the 2002 Champions Trophy and 2003 ODI World Cup. However, Karthik admitted he realised not picking any keeper only after the episode came out.&nbsp;

“I realised only when the episode came out. There were so many things happening that when I put this 11, I forgot the wicketkeeper. Luckily, Rahul Dravid was there, and everybody thought I was going with a part-time wicketkeeper.&nbsp;

But, genuinely, I didn’t think Rahul Dravid was a wicketkeeper, 'Can you believe being a wicketkeeper; I forgot to have a wicketkeeper? It is a blunder,” Karthik issues clarification.

<h2>‘Thala Dhoni is a lock-in for all formats’</h2>

Speaking on missing out on picking MS Dhoni in his all-time XI, Karthik said Dhoni is a lock-in as a keeper-batter across all formats, not just in India XI but also in World XI.&nbsp;

Karthik, who made his international debut before MS Dhoni and having shared the dressing room with the Thala, as most fans call MS, called him ‘one of the greatest cricketers to have played the game.’

“And for me, let’s be clear. Thala Dhoni is a lock in any format, not only in India. I feel he is one of the greatest cricketers to have ever played the game. If I had to redo that team, one change I would make is Thala Dhoni in at 7. And he will be the captain of any Indian team that is there,” Karthik added.

Meanwhile, Karthik also retired from the IPL, where he last represented Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) in IPL 2024. On the other hand, MS Dhoni's IPL future stays in limbo, as he is yet to confirm his participation for the next season.&nbsp;

Although Australia maintained its domination against all visiting teams all this time, India beat them twice at their home - in 2018 and 2022, besides thrashing them in two away series in the past decade.

"So, there's no chance to naturally dominate a game. It's quite even the whole time, so it's a very different type of cricket because you don't have those traditional surfaces,” he continued.

Yashasvi Jaiswal’s rise to the top in such a brief period has impressed everyone, and Hayden is no different. Calling Jaiswal ‘a package’, Hayden said he looks forward to watching the Indian opener do well Down Under but cautioned him not to take things lightly against the Aussies.

Delhi International Airport Limited(DIAL) &nbsp;confirmed in a press release that the new IGI Terminal 1 would be operational again, with SpiceJet and IndiGo airlines shifting their flights to Terminal One.&nbsp;

Delhi Airport posted on X, that a new experience is waiting and the new Terminal 1 is ready for the operations. They also mentioned that with the state-of-the-art facilities and enhanced passenger convenience, new Terminal 1 is ready to welcome travellers.&nbsp;

All the arrivals at the airport will also take place at the dedicated arrival areas on the ground floor. &nbsp;

As per the release, DIAL has installed proper signage at strategic locations and on-road markings to help people reach their specific departure points. Additionally, guards from the security firm RAXA will also help people reach their appropriate departure points. The release also added that upon arrival, passengers will take the same route to exit the terminal.&nbsp;

“One really good thing that has happened in Indian cricket in the past six or seven years is that Indians have started coaching the Indian cricket team. I am a very strong believer in this. Indians should coach the Indian cricket team. All these foreign coaches, whom we end up giving a lot of importance to, they only come here, they make money, and they vanish,” Gambhir said during an interview.

Rahul Dravid, the former India head coach, has pinpointed the lowest point of his coaching career, and it’s not the 2023 ODI World Cup or the World Test Championship Final loss.&nbsp;

Under Dravid, the Men in Blue tasted success at the 2024 T20 World Cup in the Americas by winning it for the second time. With that, Team India also ended their ICC trophy drought, last winning in 2013 (Champions Trophy) under MS Dhoni.

“I think spinners – Washi, Axar and Kuldeep – contributed well. To restrict them to 230 was, I think, a good effort,” he concluded.&nbsp;

Ace batter Suryakumar Yadav is ready for his T20I captaincy debut against Sri Lanka, but more than that, he’s happy to have his ‘old mate’ Gautam Gambhir in the dressing room as the new India head coach. Ahead of the first T20I against Sri Lanka in Pallekele on Saturday (July 26), Suryakumar spoke publicly&nbsp;for the first time since his unexpected appointment.&nbsp;

Talking exclusively to BCCI.tv, SKY said he’s learned a lot about leadership by playing under various captains and cannot wait to get on the field and make the most of his chance.

“I have always enjoyed being a leader on the field even though I was not the captain. I have always learnt a lot of things from different captains. It’s a good feeling and a great responsibility,” the swashbuckling batter&nbsp;said.&nbsp;

He added that both of them know about each other’s working styles, eventually helping SKY to become the captain his coach and the selectors have picked him for.

“This relationship is special because, in 2014, I played under him in KKR. It was special because from there only I got opportunities. The relationship is still strong.

“He (Gambhir) knows how I work, and what is my mindset when I come to practice sessions. I also know how he tries to work as a coach. It’s all about the lovely relationship we have, and very excited to see how it goes forward,” Suryakumar continued.

<h2>Staying grounded is the key</h2>

Suryakumar Yadav has played cricket long enough to know how important it is to remain grounded and continue working for betterment, speaking on the same lines as he gears up for a new challenge.

“I think the most important thing that I have learned from this sport is how humble you are after achieving or even after not doing well. I have learned when you do something on the ground, you have to leave it on the ground,” he said.

“This is not your life, this is just a part of your life. So you can’t be when you are doing well, you stay on the top, and when you are not doing well, you are underground.

“That’s one thing which you shouldn’t do ever as a sportsman, that’s one thing which I have learned, and that’s what helps me create balance in my life. If you are a good person, everything happens good,” SKY concluded.

Gautam Gambhir’s appointment as Team India’s new head coach is refreshing for Indian cricket, feels former coach and veteran Ravi Shastri. Replacing Rahul Dravid for the top position, Gambhir, whom Shastri calls a no-nonsense guy, will have plenty riding on his shoulders; however, with the mature team at the helm and having worked or played with most players, the ‘young’ coach Gambhir can make the most of this chance, Shastri believes.

Shastri backed Gautam to bring fresh ideas and instil confidence into the side as the busy international calendar looms. With the away Sri Lanka tour being Gambhir’s first assignment as India's head coach, the former two-time World Cup winner will lead the team in the home season, beginning with the Bangladesh series in early September.&nbsp;

Although Gautam hasn’t coached any domestic or international team before, he guided his former IPL team, Kolkata Knight Riders, to their third title this season as a mentor.

“He's contemporary; he just had a great season in the IPL,” Shastri said of Gambhir on the ICC Review.&nbsp;“I think he's the right age where he's young, he'll come with fresh ideas. He knows most of the players, especially in the white-ball format, having been part of teams in the IPL. So I think it's refreshing.

“And we know with Gautam, he's a no-nonsense guy. He'll have his ideas as well. And the good thing for him is he's got a mature team. He's got a settled team, a mature team. I think even though you might think you're mature, you might benefit from some fresh ideas. So I think it'll be interesting times,” Shastri continued.&nbsp;

<h2>‘Player management becomes a key for coach’</h2>

Having been in Gautam’s shoes before, Shastri knows and understands what a head coach brings to the table.&nbsp;

Ravi said it would be interesting to see how he manages his players and different squads with all the tools available.&nbsp;

"Obviously, player management becomes the key as a coach," Shastri said.

"So it'll be interesting to see how he goes. I think he's got the tools, he's got the goods for the job, and he's got the experience," he further said.

"What their strengths are, what kind of human beings they are, and what kind of temperaments do they have. What are their personalities? A lot goes behind the scenes to understand a human being.

"I think that will be his most important task, which I think, again should not be a problem because he's contemporary. He's seen these guys from the outside, he's dealt with a lot of guys who might have played with KKR as well and for Lucknow [Super Giants] when he was there.

"And he's been around the circuit, the moment he finished cricket - and that was not too long ago - and he still is around, plays a lot of the legends cricket as well,” Shastri added.&nbsp;

‘Gambhir’s a no-nonsense guy’ – Ravi Shastri calls new India coach appointment ‘refreshing’

Former men’s team chief selector Krishnamachari Srikkanth has bashed the idea of the current India ODI and Test captain Rohit Sharma playing the 2027 World Cup in South Africa, Zimbabwe and Namibia. Newly-appointed India head coach Gautam Gambhir backed the star duo of Virat Kohli (35) and Rohit (37) to play the next ODI World Cup should they stay fit. However, Srikkanth said Rohit shouldn’t stretch beyond a certain point, as at 40, he would faint while playing in Africa.

Rohit and Kohli announced their T20I retirement following the World Cup-winning campaign in the Americas. Although Kohli’s fitness might help him get through the 2027 WC without much discomfort, Srikkanth feels Rohit, who will be 40 in three years, shouldn’t be playing the 50-over World Cup.

Chatting on his son&nbsp;Anirudh's&nbsp;YouTube channel, Srikkanth said,&nbsp;"Virat Kohli is a champion player. Rohit Sharma should not play in the 2027 World Cup. He will faint in South Africa."

"He [Rohit] is a good player, but his age is 37 presently, and the next ODI World Cup is three more years ahead. He will be 40 years old then. You can't play World Cup at the 40s. Yeah, Virat Kohli could play in the 2027 World Cup, in my opinion, for sure. But for Rohit, Mr Gambhir, you went overboard; he will faint in South Africa," the former India opener noted.

Srikkanth thinks India must look for a new captain for the next ODI World Cup, with several contenders like Shreyas Iyer, Rishabh Pant, Shubman Gill and even Jasprit Bumrah being available options.&nbsp;

Meanwhile, per BCCI secretary Jay Shah, Rohit will continue leading Team India in the upcoming two ICC events next year – the Champions Trophy in Pakistan and the WTC Final at the Lord’s, should India qualify. However, per the current WTC Standings, Rohit’s Indian Team is placed first with a PCT of 68.52%.&nbsp;

<h2>Rohit returns&nbsp;for Sri Lanka ODIs</h2>

For the first time since beating South Africa in the T20 World Cup Final in Barbados, Rohit will return to the ODI side for the three-match series against Sri Lanka, starting August 1 in Colombo.
